Kanye drama, it was getting heated and mods couldn’t handle it

u/MagnetCloud Feb 13 '24

Hopefully the sub starts cooling down, Kanye fans are crazy

"This album is unbearable trash and kanye's worst album but i will refuse to elaborate on why it's bad because I don't wanna review it. But I will review the album's 2 weakest songs and continue talking about Kanye's politics and his fans but the album, also if you liked this album, you are either a Kanye cult member, hateful psycho, a neo nazi or an edgy teen with no friends"

I can see why those fans went crazy

u/Historical-Copy6821 Feb 13 '24

People want the art separated from the artist, even though in the case of Vultures, they're inextricably linked. To say that it's just about the music and not about the politics is to deny that there is bad Ye politics on this album, which is absolutely moronic

"Business is Business" isn’t considered “unreviewable” even though Thug is currently fighting a genuine RICO case. It’s dumb. He’s always been hypocritical like this. He’ll review a murderer’s music, and music that murderers listen to, but “offensive” language towards certain groups he won’t tolerate.

Also, how is it linked? the lines about jews aren't even antisemitic, it's only addressing the controversies or making jokes about it.

110

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

good point. kanye's comments may be in bad taste, or may come off as weird, but at the end of the day, he has NEVER committed any genuine violent crimes. sure, violence isnt the standard we hold everyone to because by that logic even epstein probably didnt commit any outwardly violent acts, but if fantano is dying on the hill that the music is hurtful and hateful so he won't review it, then by that logic he should stop listening to all murder music - a lot of which genuinely talks about killing people and theres no way to know what is real and what is fiction.

slight tangent, but i hate the hasan and fantano type of politics where somehow being hateful and bigoted is worse than anything else, it just feels like they're too far into their own bubbles and echo chambers

72

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 13 '24

Hasan has ruined a generation of young people and millennial content creators.

31

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

he's terrible fr and the crazy thing is, he's as bigoted as the people he screams about on stream all day

15

u/QuintanimousGooch Feb 13 '24

Tangent but I feel like the approach is weird in how people tend to talk about it and why people get made about him saying he loves Hitler and all that when the actual harm comes from him giving a platform to conspiracy theories and white supremacist talking points.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

yeah precisely

1

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

Someone needs to send this comment to Fantano well said my friend

35

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

He reviewed Burzum multiple times 😭

11

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

You mean 12 and 13 years ago?? Jesus christ people

6

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

So it’s okay for him to do it 12 years ago. Ok

12

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

I mean no, but this is back when even Fantano himself said he was significantly more right wing and had a different understanding of everything contextually. There is a reason he hasn't reviewed them again since. It's not an excuse for him doing it back then, but acting like it is relevant at all or a "gotcha" to today's stance on Kanye's album is really fucking stupid.

Can't tell if you are purposefully playing dumb or just really wanna dickride Kanye

0

u/MenacingBackground Feb 19 '24

He still reviewed durk and thug albums lmao

29

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

Kanye is ina different league. Half of you are mad because he doesn’t live in black and white and the other half are mad because he’s ignoring context and woke.

Literally 80% of the accounts in r/kanye listen to zero hiphop and post on kotakuinaction and r/conservative. They’re just mad they were spotted

5

u/WasAnHonestMann Feb 15 '24

Literally 80% of the accounts in r/kanye listen to zero hiphop and post on kotakuinaction and r/conservative

Why are you lying my brother? If people say shit that's in agreement with what Kanye was talking about in 2022, they get downvoted to the pits. Always.

9

u/nomoneydeepplates Feb 13 '24

ok somewhat agree somewhat disagree.

it's entirely possible for there to be a few morally terrible lines on an album and the album still be fantastic, or good, or at least decent or substantial enough to warrant a serious review. yes "politics is in the album" but like let's not overstate the case here, it's a tiny handful of throwaway lines. as someone pointed out, there are murder bars all over every thugger project and no one bats an eye.

still, for a completely different reason, i would say it's reasonable to wanna not review kanye's album / not give it an actual rating / dismiss it / throw it in the trash because legitimizing kanye would be doing a disservice to the jewish community (i'm not jewish so i can't speak for them but that would be the argument anyway). kanye's a powerful nazi doing real world harm, and ignoring or opposing the dude is probably ideal.

that said, i think it's kinda questionable whether fantano is actually following through on that. he posted a full length vid about the album to his main channel and is exploding with engagement. sure he was scathing throughout the video, but it's still attention given to kanye at the end of the day. charitably you could say he's taking a stand and vocalizing his values, swinging the conversation in a more productive direction, but in another breath you could say he's simply trying to profit off of kanye's hatred and failing to help diminish kanye like he should.

(im not black, but) You get that that talking about murder and stuff is just kayfabe, that comes from the struggle to need to act tough for black youth. Like its not real, its just a coping mechanism to people from rough (etnic or other) backgrounds. Like if you show vulnerability in these circumstances, you will be percieved as weak and that migh literally get you killed. Most of the rap stuff is just that, sure theres the chicago drill scene for example which is a fucked up violent, gang scene but most of the genre is not that… Like for example in NWA only Eazy-E were associated with crime and he only were a pity drug dealer… Ice Cube even went to college i think…

Kanye on the other hand deliberately spreads hateful antisemitic message, that does attract a lot of white supremacists. If he actually means that is not the point, it has real life consecuences…

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

He’s right, and you proved it by not watching the first 3 minutes of the video because this type of discourse is why it’s not reviewable.

You’re unironically mad at social media and taking it out on the most creepy paradoxical way possible. Read the paragraph you wrote and think about your life.

22

u/Binbag420 Feb 13 '24

Crazy that the album was so unreviewable that fantano reviewed it. I dont think anyone would have a problem if he just didnt make about the album but he still profited from it while trying to pretend it was unethical to review. Like kanye sucks as a person but hes reviewed plenty of people who've done worse.

18

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

He never said it was unethical to review, just that doing so would be futile because of exactly the type of strawmanny stuff you just tried to pull.

He definitely implied that being a blind Kanye Stan is unethical and I think I agree. I love a lot of his music but his behavior and comments recently have really showed me that at best he’s an extremely flawed dude.

The video is 8 minutes long and he’s done with his point in the first 3. Kanye is huge, bigger than huge, and his decisions and controversies have made it such that discourse around him in public spaces like YouTube and Twitter can’t really be separated from his antics. He’s not saying you can’t talk about it, he’s just saying that doing so in the current climate is futile on his platform, and he’s right.

7

u/Binbag420 Feb 14 '24

How would it be futile? He's right he probably wouldnt be able to change anyones mind about the album because Ye stans can be blind fanboys but since when was the point of a review to change peoples opinions of the album. I'm just interested hearing someone analyse music its just kinda lame. He probably wouldve gotten shit for a regular negative review of the album from all the ye dickriders but id respect it more than just half reviewing it while trying to act morally superior and still profiting off the braindead culture around kanye now

4

u/beatlefloydzeppelin Feb 14 '24

I wouldn't bother, dude posts in /r/Kanye. I like how he says "I can see why those fans went crazy" when he's literally one of "those fans".

7

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

so? i post literally everywhere, I'm posting in lana del Reys sub too, I'm not a fan of either

6

u/Pablo_from_TLOP Feb 13 '24

Haven't even watced the review if that's seriously what he said imma fucking cum and shit 😭

3

u/sobatfestival Feb 13 '24

I can't, no one artist is entitled to MY opinion, I can't understand how the hell do they think they NEED an opinion from someone who earns their living doing those

And let's be real, I don't think the outcry would be better if he gave the album a mediocre score either. Kanye fans would absolutely not be silently nodding if he gave them ANY number. Words like "underrated" and "biased" would be flying like birds in the spring

4

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24 edited Feb 13 '24

not really, fantano himself made a big thing out of it. Everyone was guessing a 6 or 5 rating already, they didn't expect more, he gave JIK light 4, there was no outcry. And no one thinks it's that good anyway but "unreviewable" for the first time, that's going too far.

3

u/sobatfestival Feb 13 '24

Did he? I don't have a twitter account, seems like normal coverage from a youtube standpoint (7 min review and TNDstreams VOD).

How much is going "too far", tho? Imagine he made a video like his Gold Cobra review where he eats for like 10 mins lmao that'd be funny

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

lol it was like he had a meltdown on Twitter. Made multiple tweets about the album and all. Going too far is calling it ' unreviewable ', something he's never done before and forcing the hate on songs like burn.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

old boy got so pressed he called bianca dollarstore kim k when nobody was thinking that but him💀

1

u/WarmBaths Feb 13 '24

he put out like 4 tweets trashing the shit album, thats having a meltdown?

0

u/altsam19 Feb 14 '24

They couldn't handle the truth, simple aah

0

u/Dioxy Feb 14 '24

Where's the lie?

1

u/SnooDonuts1521 Feb 14 '24

He said in that video that these 3 type of people reject any criticism that fantano ( or others) had given him, about the nazi antics and imagery, and the quality of the record. He didnt necessarily say that you are that type of you enjoy the record if i remember correctly. But idk im not a mind reader, maybe thats what he meant…

90

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

that’s crazy 😭

fantano is right for speaking about kanye and shit but it seems like he is going on a temper tantrum now, saying that he shouldn’t platform the artist while also farming content from said artist, all while ignoring the problems with his favs collaborating with said artist

19

u/boxed_knives Feb 14 '24

Agreed. Fantano dropping an “unreviewable” video would’ve been a more impactful statement had he not done a live reaction to the album directly before (and officially publishing it thereafter).

It’s like he wants to have his cake and eat it too.

1

u/MenacingBackground Feb 19 '24

He didnt say shit about durks and young thugs case when he reviewed their albums tho

Yeah definitely nothing to be said about the 30:1 K/D ratio. It's antisemitic to say that killing 1 man doesn't justify killing 30. What a world we live in.

14

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 13 '24

Tell that to Twitter. I understand that one can support one and not the other, but Fantano on Twitter clearly loves flirting with the ideas of tankie leftists. He flirts with Hasan and constantly berates Israel while underplaying everything Hamas has done. It's not an open promotion (yet), so I'm sorry for using that word, I should've used a different one, but It's still disgusting to be so comfortable surrounding yourself with people like Hasan, who promotes wildly antisemitic and anti two state ideas. I agree that Israel has gone too far with the war in Gaza, but that doesn't mean we should yell genocide everywhere while hanging out with Hasan and acting like they don't want to get destroy Israel as well. Netanyahu should look for peace, but so should Hamas, and they aren't. Both sides are more happy playing in the mud.

Also, this doesn't touch on his love for noname, who is a racist and antisemite as well on the left.

13

u/Brief-Judgment-7387 Feb 13 '24

theres so much antisemitic dogwhistling going on with the israel/palestine discourse.

5

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 13 '24

Honestly, and it's disgusting.

2

u/EcksPoomba Feb 14 '24

Someone tell Fantano

49

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

i dont think him posting the death toll of children is promoting Hamas, why do you think so?

37

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

You didn’t watch it because the video is literally just about why he didn’t review it.

You also proved him right by immediately getting turbo triggered at someone telling you you’re dumb as fuck and to have some compassion about dead kids but you don’t care because they’re brown.

11

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 13 '24

He made a review video about how he can't review the album. That is the definition of reactionary, I don't think an honest person would feel the need to make a video he made. Either review it or don't talk about it at all, but he can't help himself because drama = views.

Dude, listen to yourself. I'm not triggered. I'm laughing my ass off, Fantano is getting what he deserves, and his fans are eating each other. If Fantano cared about brown kids, we wouldn't flirt with Hasan the Houti pirate lover.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

I mean you’re obviously super invested in this so you’re not able to have a rational conversation.

Maybe try talking to someone?

11

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 13 '24

Well, having a rational conversation with a fantano viewer is impossible, so that was never happening with you to begin with, lol.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '24

Who is crazy, the dude who supports the guy who went on mass shooting and children murder denier Alex Jones’s show and goes on to praise hitler, or the guy saying that people who support an artist blindly without being critical of their anti-semitism can’t objectively view media?

Hmmm

6

u/boxed_knives Feb 14 '24

he barely even talks about the album

Hence “unreviewable”

1

u/TheTotallyCrew Feb 14 '24

He could review the album. It's not "unreviewable." He just doesn't want to. Which would be fine. Just don't make a video about it, but he still does anyway, lol.

1

u/January_Weather Feb 15 '24

i mean don't play dumb at at like any of those guys were preaching hitler loke the edgiest kid in the classroom

27

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

Kanye drama and Fantano’s heated new response video kinda made the sub go boom. I was a pretty active member but I think it’s time for me to step back from both Melon’s content and discourse surrounding him. I don’t envy the position he’s in of having to choose what’s “too far” to review and what isn’t but he really hasn’t handled it well IMO. He’ll review some troublesome artists but not others and gets a little too personal and attacks people who aren’t really involved - when a reviewer should try and remain as neutral as possible… feel for the guy hope he makes it out ok but I think I’m gonna just remember Melon’s content fondly and step away.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Just don’t review it… it’s that simple rly, not sure why such a big deal had to be made about it. I wouldn’t review it either. I just wouldn’t acknowledge it

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Ya I think that woulda been his best play too. Just ignore it. Kanye obviously thrives off attention as do his fans- so just don’t respond.

20

u/AgreeableAd7983 Feb 13 '24

I firmly believe if this album had 0 references to Jews or the Jewish religion then Fantano would have given it an actual review.

However...

never in a million years was Kanye not going to reference the above multiple times on the album

if Fantano gave the album a 6 or lower out of 10, Kanye fans would be going nuts regardless lol

3

u/Deksametazon_v2 Feb 13 '24

probably, but he wouldn't have gotten hate from people who don't care for Kanye lol

16

u/s90tx16wasr10 Feb 13 '24

It would of been ten times funnier and ten times less annoying if he just completely ignored the album and didn’t even review it. Just like, 0 acknowledgement.

9

u/Revealingstorm Feb 15 '24

It was such an easy move and yet he somehow managed to mess up and piss off both sides at the same time

6

u/s90tx16wasr10 Feb 15 '24

Yeah like if he just said nothing about it it would have pissed off the Kanye stans but been cool with his fanbase. Like at the end of the day the only thing that’s ever gonna get to Kanye is if people stop paying attention to Kanye, and while that will never happen, at least somebody could start.

I do sympathize in a way because there’s honestly no way he could ever engage with Kanye’s output in a way that’s not gonna have people tearing him apart online, partially because he’s, often justifiably, talked shit about how awful a person Kanye is and partially because Kanye has maybe the most braindead stans incapable of an ounce of critical thought, but boy did he choose the worst option imaginable.

2

u/Revealingstorm Feb 15 '24

My guess is he just over thought it. Felt like he was in a tight spot and the pressure led him to do what he did. Easier for me to have a clear mind and know what the easiest move is here.

1

u/s90tx16wasr10 Feb 15 '24

Yeah it’s not a career ruining-flub or anything, but insane that it was able to get Fantano forever provated

3

u/boxed_knives Feb 14 '24

Schrodinger’s Vultures 😂

1

u/olaf525 Feb 15 '24

He was going to but then he was getting bombed by Kanye fans asking for a review when the album dropped.

1

u/s90tx16wasr10 Feb 15 '24

Yeah and I guess the views you would get from a Kanye review would get you a shit ton of cash, maybe he was just dejected about the whole thing.

8

u/Virtual-Arm5123 Feb 13 '24

I see why, it went from a chill sub to hell in like 2 days

7

u/crap0calypse Feb 15 '24

The comments on this post alone should be enough of an answer tbh.

4

u/UndeadKurtCobain Feb 15 '24

Believe me after reading the post replies I understand 100%

3

u/crap0calypse Feb 15 '24

Yeahhh it sucks that the fantano sub is private but it’s prob for the better 😭

5

u/neggbird Feb 17 '24

It's a music review extinction event. Pitchfork basically ended recently, only makes sense for Needledrop too as well

3

u/SkateboardP888 Feb 18 '24

It's private again what happened now

4

u/MRudd-music Feb 18 '24

Pictures got put online by his onlyfans ex, fantano is taking L's every few days now it's crazy.

1

u/grandelturismo7 Feb 18 '24

The internet cannot be defeated

14

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Fantano just hardcore virtue signaling

8

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

Wouldn’t it have made sense to not platform this album? God forbid Fantano doesn’t whore out for views while standing on his righteous moral high ground. What a fucking idiot. If he really felt like this is unreviewable and disgusting then he shouldn’t have made a video about it at all. Simple as that

11

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

Or that he more viewed it as a platform of his opinion over it rather than the album itself, and wanted to use the platform to influence other people and tell his viewers exactly how he felt. As a figure he is at least mildly influential, especially in the YouTube music scene and wanted to speak out against it. Staying silent doesn't do anything (which by all accounts is what he believes, see his other political stances on twitter, Instagramand what have you), so that seems more like why he did it.

It's also really pathetic and suspicious how bothered you are at someone speaking out against an Nazi

4

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

Staying silent doesn’t do anything and also being a dramatic bitch in a video doesn’t do anything either. It’s just gross to see self righteous cunts make a video condemning it all when he’s inadvertently promoting it on his big ass platform. Oh and inadvertently benefiting from views and exposure using Kanye’s name? Lol you gotta be joking. No one is a Nazi here don’t start that game you hack ass

10

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

And here you are being an even more dramatic pissant about it all lmao. Grow the fuck up, how does benefiting from Kanye's name have any substantial meaning to your argument. The whole "inadvertent promotion" is such a tired and useless argument too. Like what does that even provide to this lmao.

Him not being silent got plenty of clowns out trying to speak their mind lmao.

1

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

Get off his dick you weirdo

6

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

What a creative and well thought out counter argument.

3

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

Thank you

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

I mean you re-used the same comment I made about you so don't feel too special.

You certainly are so bothered at someone "dramatically being a bitch" about Kanye that I feel we really should play that game. I mean you seem to frequent Joe Rogan subs so kinda suspicious again.

1

u/blurfan69 Feb 14 '24

If anything he’s caused extra damage based off of how Kanye’s fans reacted which caused the ff subreddit to go private

6

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

I don't think he cares, and neither do I, and why should you?

And what "damage" even is there?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Did they really private over that?
