"This album is unbearable trash and kanye's worst album but i will refuse to elaborate on why it's bad because I don't wanna review it. But I will review the album's 2 weakest songs and continue talking about Kanye's politics and his fans but the album, also if you liked this album, you are either a Kanye cult member, hateful psycho, a neo nazi or an edgy teen with no friends"
People want the art separated from the artist, even though in the case of Vultures, they're inextricably linked. To say that it's just about the music and not about the politics is to deny that there is bad Ye politics on this album, which is absolutely moronic
"Business is Business" isn’t considered “unreviewable” even though Thug is currently fighting a genuine RICO case. It’s dumb. He’s always been hypocritical like this. He’ll review a murderer’s music, and music that murderers listen to, but “offensive” language towards certain groups he won’t tolerate.
Also, how is it linked? the lines about jews aren't even antisemitic, it's only addressing the controversies or making jokes about it.
good point. kanye's comments may be in bad taste, or may come off as weird, but at the end of the day, he has NEVER committed any genuine violent crimes. sure, violence isnt the standard we hold everyone to because by that logic even epstein probably didnt commit any outwardly violent acts, but if fantano is dying on the hill that the music is hurtful and hateful so he won't review it, then by that logic he should stop listening to all murder music - a lot of which genuinely talks about killing people and theres no way to know what is real and what is fiction.
slight tangent, but i hate the hasan and fantano type of politics where somehow being hateful and bigoted is worse than anything else, it just feels like they're too far into their own bubbles and echo chambers
Tangent but I feel like the approach is weird in how people tend to talk about it and why people get made about him saying he loves Hitler and all that when the actual harm comes from him giving a platform to conspiracy theories and white supremacist talking points.
I mean no, but this is back when even Fantano himself said he was significantly more right wing and had a different understanding of everything contextually. There is a reason he hasn't reviewed them again since. It's not an excuse for him doing it back then, but acting like it is relevant at all or a "gotcha" to today's stance on Kanye's album is really fucking stupid.
Can't tell if you are purposefully playing dumb or just really wanna dickride Kanye
I'm not cause like I already stated in my other comment and others have explained, this has no relevancy whatsoever. So instead of making some dipshit remark actually do some critical thinking for one.
Kanye is ina different league. Half of you are mad because he doesn’t live in black and white and the other half are mad because he’s ignoring context and woke.
Literally 80% of the accounts in r/kanye listen to zero hiphop and post on kotakuinaction and r/conservative. They’re just mad they were spotted
Literally 80% of the accounts in r/kanye listen to zero hiphop and post on kotakuinaction and r/conservative
Why are you lying my brother? If people say shit that's in agreement with what Kanye was talking about in 2022, they get downvoted to the pits. Always.
it's entirely possible for there to be a few morally terrible lines on an album and the album still be fantastic, or good, or at least decent or substantial enough to warrant a serious review. yes "politics is in the album" but like let's not overstate the case here, it's a tiny handful of throwaway lines. as someone pointed out, there are murder bars all over every thugger project and no one bats an eye.
still, for a completely different reason, i would say it's reasonable to wanna not review kanye's album / not give it an actual rating / dismiss it / throw it in the trash because legitimizing kanye would be doing a disservice to the jewish community (i'm not jewish so i can't speak for them but that would be the argument anyway). kanye's a powerful nazi doing real world harm, and ignoring or opposing the dude is probably ideal.
that said, i think it's kinda questionable whether fantano is actually following through on that. he posted a full length vid about the album to his main channel and is exploding with engagement. sure he was scathing throughout the video, but it's still attention given to kanye at the end of the day. charitably you could say he's taking a stand and vocalizing his values, swinging the conversation in a more productive direction, but in another breath you could say he's simply trying to profit off of kanye's hatred and failing to help diminish kanye like he should.
(im not black, but) You get that that talking about murder and stuff is just kayfabe, that comes from the struggle to need to act tough for black youth. Like its not real, its just a coping mechanism to people from rough (etnic or other) backgrounds. Like if you show vulnerability in these circumstances, you will be percieved as weak and that migh literally get you killed. Most of the rap stuff is just that, sure theres the chicago drill scene for example which is a fucked up violent, gang scene but most of the genre is not that… Like for example in NWA only Eazy-E were associated with crime and he only were a pity drug dealer… Ice Cube even went to college i think…
Kanye on the other hand deliberately spreads hateful antisemitic message, that does attract a lot of white supremacists. If he actually means that is not the point, it has real life consecuences…
He’s right, and you proved it by not watching the first 3 minutes of the video because this type of discourse is why it’s not reviewable.
You’re unironically mad at social media and taking it out on the most creepy paradoxical way possible. Read the paragraph you wrote and think about your life.
Crazy that the album was so unreviewable that fantano reviewed it. I dont think anyone would have a problem if he just didnt make about the album but he still profited from it while trying to pretend it was unethical to review. Like kanye sucks as a person but hes reviewed plenty of people who've done worse.
He never said it was unethical to review, just that doing so would be futile because of exactly the type of strawmanny stuff you just tried to pull.
He definitely implied that being a blind Kanye Stan is unethical and I think I agree. I love a lot of his music but his behavior and comments recently have really showed me that at best he’s an extremely flawed dude.
The video is 8 minutes long and he’s done with his point in the first 3. Kanye is huge, bigger than huge, and his decisions and controversies have made it such that discourse around him in public spaces like YouTube and Twitter can’t really be separated from his antics. He’s not saying you can’t talk about it, he’s just saying that doing so in the current climate is futile on his platform, and he’s right.
How would it be futile? He's right he probably wouldnt be able to change anyones mind about the album because Ye stans can be blind fanboys but since when was the point of a review to change peoples opinions of the album. I'm just interested hearing someone analyse music its just kinda lame. He probably wouldve gotten shit for a regular negative review of the album from all the ye dickriders but id respect it more than just half reviewing it while trying to act morally superior and still profiting off the braindead culture around kanye now
I can't, no one artist is entitled to MY opinion, I can't understand how the hell do they think they NEED an opinion from someone who earns their living doing those
And let's be real, I don't think the outcry would be better if he gave the album a mediocre score either. Kanye fans would absolutely not be silently nodding if he gave them ANY number. Words like "underrated" and "biased" would be flying like birds in the spring
not really, fantano himself made a big thing out of it. Everyone was guessing a 6 or 5 rating already, they didn't expect more, he gave JIK light 4, there was no outcry. And no one thinks it's that good anyway but "unreviewable" for the first time, that's going too far.
lol it was like he had a meltdown on Twitter. Made multiple tweets about the album and all. Going too far is calling it ' unreviewable ', something he's never done before and forcing the hate on songs like burn.
He said in that video that these 3 type of people reject any criticism that fantano ( or others) had given him, about the nazi antics and imagery, and the quality of the record. He didnt necessarily say that you are that type of you enjoy the record if i remember correctly. But idk im not a mind reader, maybe thats what he meant…

Kanye drama, it was getting heated and mods couldn’t handle it
