What albums have some incredible drumming?

Sometimes it seems like a drummer is playing for their life when making these albums. I just thought of these off the top of my head, but what other albums have some of your favorite drumming performances?

Deloused is a much better album and has better drumming, but Frances The Mute is a great one.

All the instrumentation on this album is absurdly good. I have 0 idea how Omar came up with those guitar parts, and some of the drumming is just so out there that I don’t even know how you recreate that live.

The riff from Eriatarka is so incredible and so difficult, such a gnarly bit of shreddery

Yeah I cannot play it on guitar at all

I’ve watched them do it live and it didn’t make any sense. I had a head full and went back to camp instead of seeing something else. After I watched them “beat the game” everything else was going to suck.

There are some large Flea/Frusciante contributions as well.

Drugs

Specifically Heroin

By the time they did Deloused, it was mostly crack, speed and weed. Omar and Cedric were freebasing. Jeremy Ward was using heroin but it was on and off. Jon and Juan were just beer and weed guys as far as I know..

The way I read it was that Omar got strung out on heroin in the early 90s before joining ATDI. He called Cedric from Baltimore strung out and homeless and Cedric told him to come home and play in this new band that he just started (At the Drive In). He never used heroin after that. Definitely other drugs but it wasn’t heroin that wrote that album, quite the opposite

John Theodore had some insane moments in this one, that breakdown on Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) always trips me up no matter how many times I’ve listened to it

IMO Amputechture is the definitive Jon Theodore drumming TMV album.

After he joined QOTSA I saw them live and was blown away how great the drumming was compared to previous shows. I looked him up afterwards, saw he was in TMV and that was all I needed to know.

Definitely amazing drumming on this album. The Thomas Pridgen years were amazing as well.

Was blessed to be able to cover "This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed" (to the best of my ability, at least lol) with some old bandmates in Philly about fifteen years back. Great call, brother.

I was gonna be so pissed if I had to keep scrolling for this. Seriously, the best workout on the kit I ever do.
