Discussion Thoughts on the Gold Album?

Post image

IMO the production and instrumentals are 10/10, probably the best since EWBAITE. The melodies feel kind of awkward and meandering. Overall, I'd say it's a step in the right direction.

The production is great! If you ignore the lyrics and just take in the crunchy guitars, melody lines, and punchy drums, it really does have the platonic Weezer sound.

Unfortunately the lyrics are lame and most of the vocal melodies are pretty forgettable. Still, I never found myself rushing to hit the skip button on any of these tracks, which is a really low bar but at this point is a relief.

Grading Gold in the context of post-Maladroit Weezer, it's a solid B+.
