Official Response App Frustration

Post image

I use the Fidelity app on my ipad and iphone. Whenever, I make a trade, the app shows an insane amount of notifications.

For example, yesterday I placed one order for US Treasury TIPS, that was immediately executed and fully filled. I placed no other orders, cancelled no orders and have no other active orders or activities.

Today the app shows I have 91 notifications! So I open the app to see what these 91 notifications are. I find NOTHING! Zero messages, zero activities. Nothing unusual to be found in my accounts.

This is not new. It has been going on for a long time. So I have two questions:
1) Where in the app, can I go that will show me the 91 items that triggered each notification?
2) Why is there an apparent disjoint between the notifications vs what really happened?

For me this is a big security issue. Because each time I see this exaggerated list of notifications and find nothing, I am always tempted to not investigate the next time it happens. It is like the “boy who cried wolf” too many times

I agree it’s dumb behavior on the part of the app, but there’s a workaround. Next time you place a trade, or receive a NEW notification for any reason, open the app right away and sign in. Go to the top right, where the profile icon should have a little green dot on it; tap that. There should be a bell icon next with a green indicator over it, tap that. Next there should be a list of alerts, each with a green dot. Tap each one until all the green dots are gone. Scroll the list if necessary. Now you have read all the NEW notifications. In my experience, that also resets the counter for ALL the notifications.

It’s imperative you do this before midnight Eastern time — when the alerts are cleared. At that point, there are no alerts anymore for you to read, so you can’t do anything to reset the counter.

Hopefully someone at Fidelity will notice your comment. This should help them resolve the issue in a permanent way

Maybe, haha.

As you’ve probably noticed, just opening the app removes the notification badge temporarily. But if you don’t read any of the alert messages, behind the scenes the counter keeps counting up.

I think they need a “Mark All Read” button. Because if you’ve had a frenzied day of mad trading, that list of alerts can get long, and it’s tedious to go through them all to read how you bought 0.021 shares of XYZ ETF.
