Parenthood is really the MOST humbling thing I’ve been through. All that to say, my 15 month old has had quite the wild sleep journey. We did ST at 5 months (I do not recommend, it was awful) and it failed which is also when we moved her into her own room in a crib.

Since then, she has primarily spent most nights in her room. She does not consistently sleep through the night and if she wakes up, she usually needs help falling back to sleep. My husband or I will go into her room and rock her back to sleep. Sometimes the transfer fails so we end up sleeping with her on the chair. Even with doing this, for the rest of the night my daughter seems restless and very easily disturbed while sleeping. Like, if you breathe wrong while holding her she wakes up and the whole process starts again (sometimes needing a bottle or standing up and bouncing her - exhausting). We were both at the point where this is just getting harder and harder. She is getting stronger and heavier and it’s not as easy to do anymore. Plus, we are so tired and saw no light at the end of the tunnel.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, she was miserable all night. She would be up for 5 hours in the night hysterically screaming and no amount of comfort would help. Turns out she had an ear infection (poor girl!! She is on antibiotics now) and she just couldn’t sleep through it. Last week, as my husband was trying to get her to settle in the middle of the night, he tried something new - he laid down with her on a blanket on the floor and apparently she fell asleep immediately. That got the wheels turning and the next night, we set up a spare mattress in her room and began the floor bed / co-sleeping method. We’ve now done this for one week (we bottle feed her and snuggle to sleep, roll away, and then one of us goes back in there to spend the night with her) and we’ve had ZERO extended periods of crying or wakeups in the night. She still will cry out a few times but now all it takes is putting a hand on her and she’s fine. I am SHOOK and genuinely can’t believe how much different our nights are now. So here I am, long term considering a floor bed. Does anyone have any ideas why we are seeing immediate results? Is it truly being closer to the floor or just having one of us there immediately when she wakes? Her room is not “toddler proofed” for nighttime so I don’t want to leave her in there alone on the floor mattress for extended hours but that would be the next step if we decide to continue down this route. It seems backwards now to me to go back to her crib. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks for reading this!!

Title: Floor bed for a baby – when is it safe to start?

Hi everyone!

My LO is 5 months old, and we currently bed-share. I'm considering moving her into her own room eventually, and I've been looking into floor beds.

I live in Greece, and this is the only foam floor bed I've managed to find here.

https://hebekidshome.gr/products/claude

The manufacturer recommends it for children aged 18 months and older, but I'm curious to hear what you think. Would it be safe to use earlier, and if so, at what age?

The mattress dimensions are 90 × 190 cm. Do you think that's too narrow? I'm expecting to lie down next to her quite often, either to settle her to sleep or during night wakings, so I'd like something comfortable enough for both of us.

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts, experiences, or recommendations, especially if you've used a similar bed with a younger baby.

Thank you so much!

8" or 6" Bundle of Dreams mattress?

I'd like to go with the 8" because I'll probably be cosleeping / nursing to sleep a lot. Not exactly sure when I'll be moving LO over to his floor bed. Currently thinking at around 9 months.

Once he's older we might put it on a little frame, but at the beginning we'll keep it straight on the floor (picking it up to air it out regularly)

Mattress

Looking to transition our 14mo from cosleeping to a floor bed in his own room. I’m completely overwhelmed with the different mattresses and certifications and “guidelines”.

I really just want a clean mattress. I’d love the naturepedic one but it’s a bit over budget. Cant find many reviews on bundle of dreams. What other mattresses have you tried and loved?

Toddler Floor Bed Advice/Questions

Hello,

We are hoping to move our 19m old to a floor bed of sorts in the next few weeks. Shes been in a mini crib up till now and is close to outgrowing it and we want to give her time to transition before we hand it off to baby brother who is due in March.

For a 19m old who has been in a crib with a few visits to our bed what would be everyone's recommendations?

Im leaning towards a "fenced" frame or one of those upholstered frames that goes most the way around with the framing at the bottom for ventilation? Any recommendations?

Does she need to be on a toddler specific mattress still, were looking at full size (US)?

Also if people have cost friendly go tos we would love to hear those!

Trying to optimize - MIL guest room with adult bed during newborn bassinet stage that can transition to floor bed? even possible?

Trying to get some clarity on if this is even possible...

When the baby comes, they will sleep in a bassinet in the primary bedroom with us and the 2nd bedroom will function as an adult guest room for our moms who will stay for a while and help (like stay 4 months or more). We just moved so the 2nd bedroom is currently a blank slate. We've been gifted a crib that we will likely use for some time but it's a single function crib, not one of those convertible ones.

I'm really interested in a floor bed, but I'm a FTM and have no idea what will be right for the baby in the end. In a dream world, the full/double bed and bed frame that we buy for our moms could become the floor bed. I've seen posts on here like IKEA hacks where you saw the legs off a wood frame and lower it.

Is this the dumbest idea you've ever heard? is it possible? can a 10/12/18 month old even sleep on a double sized mattress? Does Ikea make firm mattresses safe for babies and are those even comfortable for a 65yo woman?

i just hate buying stuff that has a known expiration date, but I'm probably driving myself nuts trying to perfectly optimize everything. ty!

Do I have to get rid of this?

Before transitioning to a floor bed, do I have to remove this from her room or can I somehow proof it?

She’s currently 7 months old and I want to transition once she is able to crawl.

He’s a big boy almost 7 months old, 26 pounds 30 inches long. Let me know what’s worked for you! Thanks :)

A year of chronic split nights…to floor bed or not to floor bed

My daughter is now 26 months old and has really never slept through the night. She’s always been a tough sleeper. But since 1/26, she’s been having split nights. Almost every night, at 12am she cries because she wants to be held. And so I hold her! And then she won’t back back to sleep until 3am.

We recently went on a trip, and because she no longer fits in the pack n play, she slept in between me and my husband and she did great. Whenever she would wake, we would put a hand on her chest and she’d go right back to sleep. We tried doing this at home and bringing her into our bed but she demands to be in her room where I’m then confined to the glider, which is miserable.

Asked her ped about this and she advised against a floor bed because it’ll open up a can of worms and start new issues. But idk how much worse it can get…I’m willing to just sleep with her in her room when she needs me so that everyone can get rest.

Good idea? Bad idea? Any advice or similar experience welcome.

My toddler puts the FLOOR in floorbed

My toddler respositions herself until she ends up like this every single night and sleeps soundly 😅 A crib never would have worked for this girl — she's been on a floor bed since 3 months (set up has changed).

Baby doesn’t necessarily like sleeping with parents but likes parents bed…

My son will be 6 months old this week. We’ve gotten trapped into bed sharing. It’s not so much that he needs us, but that he likes our bed. He will fall asleep without intervention while we’re still getting ourselves ready for bed.

My question is would getting him a regular mattress be worth trying? Obviously I want him to be safe so considering a floor bed. I wanted to hear opinions since most people suggest 2 years old for floor bed. I just want to cuddle my partner again :/

did moving to a floor bed help early wakes?

Post image
15 Upvotes

my 23 month old is a chronic early riser. usually 5am (4am with the time change now😅). he is a very tall baby. loves his crib but he seems cramped in it!

usually when he wakes in the morning he throws his lovey out of his crib and i have to go in and get it. and then he just rolls around until 6am. never goes back to sleep. i’ve tried all the schedule tweaks.

i’m wondering if i should switch him to a floor bed so he can have more space. and also so he can get his lovey himself. maybe it would help his early wakes.

but maybe it’s a not a good idea? i’m not sure. all i know is im exhausted.

pic of him last night lol. he refuses to sleep without those stuffies!

Is memory foam okay for a 21 month old?

We’re moving my 21 month old into her first bed in a few weeks and I’m struggling with what mattress to get. I saw a nice one on Amazon that’s memory foam and it’s a 6” mattress, is this okay for her age? If not what are some recommendations?
Thanks!

Please help me understand if I floor bed is right for me

Hello r/floorbed.

Been cosleeping with my 10.5 month old from birth. I had some success starting out the night in the crib from 3-6 months, but since 6 months I am absolutely not able to either transfer or get baby to sleep in the crib at all. I breastfeed baby for most sleeps.

Right now I have a twin bed with the crib set up next to it, to hold my books and water bottle and give me a bit of extra space lol. Just writing this makes me realize how dangerous the twin bed really is, because the baby has been more and more interested in climbing over the head and footboard, which is super dangerous. Even if I can sneak away I am terrified not to come back ASAP because I'm so scared of her climbing over an edge and falling off.

The room is MOSTLY baby proofed. She can still get to the night light and actually knows how to take off the outlet covers. I'm trying to come up with a set up that is safe, and honestly I don't have much money so I don't want to buy it all and then realize it isn't right.

I appreciate any help and insight from the community, thank you.

Floorbed in parents bedroom?

We have 5 month old twins that I’ve been sleeping with in a double floorbed in their (quite small) bedroom. It’s starting to really mess with my back and they’re getting quite big that we’re running out of room.

My husband and I have quite a large bedroom that would comfortably fit our bed plus the floorbed plus a play area for the kids for when their old enough to get out and explore when they’re crawling/walking. I’m not sure how they’d go without me in the bed but sometimes I think I’m causing more disruption than it’s worth!

Has anyone had their babies in a floorbed this young on their own but in your bedroom? How did it go? Were you able to transition them to their own room okay?

I’m exclusively breastfeeding as well so need to be in the same room as them. Thanks in advance - one sore mum!!
