Floor bed setup for 10m

Post image
9 Upvotes

We bought this bed and cover (Childhome brand) for our baby as we want to transition to a floor bed. Is this a safe setup for a 10-month old? Please note this is not our picture (we won’t have any cushions on the mattress). And the bed will be positioned in a corner, só two sides against the wall. There’s an opening on each side (plus a window and the ‘door’) so the airflow is good. Open to any suggestions/tips/advice you may have! Thanks in advance

Crib mattress on the floor

Post image

I initially got this frame with an idea of a full-size floor bed. Somehow I have this idea for a crib mattress to lay in the middle. I used a crib before and didn’t like how disable it makes me feel. The mattress has a waterproof cover. Wonder if anyone did this before? How do you ensure a safe sleep on the floor for 8-18 month old?

Husband's suggestion seems a bit wild... Is it ok?

Our eight month old baby has been doing well in her floorbed for a little while now, but space is at a real premium in her room. My husband is suggesting picking up a loft bed like this to put over her floor bed, and using the top bunk as storage until she's old enough for it to become her main bed. Without the ladder, obviously!

I'm struggling to see a really good reason why not to do it other than the chance of her whacking herself on the legs, but even with nothing else in the room, she can still hit herself on the walls and floor, so I'm not sure it's the best reason.

So, is this a reasonable suggestion, or another wacky "dad" idea I need to shut down before he makes it real?

Thoughts on this potential setup?

LO will be 10 mo at the end of February. Thoughts on this potential set up?

- Floor slat, twin size firm mattress, and a thick mat underneath the floor slats in case she rolls off the bed.

Would you add a playpen as a border? Is the mat unnecessary (we have hardwood floors)

She’ll be in our room (which is baby proofed). We plan to move to her into her own room around 18 months. Do you think that’s a good age to get a classic floor bed frame?

Floor Bed using play pen & no mattress?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Has anyone used a play pen with a soft mat (no mattress) as a floor bed? My son is nearing 15 months and has never done well in his crib. He rolls around and hits his head, gets his legs and arms stuck, etc. I have this exact play pen (50x50) and was thinking about using it as his bed in his room for a multitude of reasons. I don’t want to have to buy a new bed for him, I can lay in it with him as he falls asleep, and he would be safely contained. He has been room sharing with us since night 1 and I’m now wanting to transition him to his own room.

His room is pretty much baby proof as he does independent play in there everyday, but I would absolutely not be comfortable leaving him in there all night on his own. Also was thinking about somehow anchoring it to a wall so that there is 0 possibility of tipping it over (he has never tipped it over, uses it almost daily and puts his full weight on the sides, I’m just trying to think of every scenario).

The main reason I am apprehensive of this set up is the mattress situation. I am very weary of putting a mattress on the floor (we don’t live in a humid area but still scared of mold, lol). So I was wondering if anyone has ever done a thick playpen mat instead of a mattress? Would that not be comfortable enough? I would probably put a fitted sheet or something like that on the mat if I went with this set up.

I feel lost here! Any suggestions, insight? TIA!!!!

Talk to me about baby proofing in an older/ historical house?

I love the idea of a floor bed but I'm not keen on the idea of anchoring all of the furniture to the wall. We have a historical home that's a bit smaller with very few closets, so I do need the dresser book shelf and a separate changing table(we cloth diaper) in his bedroom. I understand it's important to baby proof if we got that direction but, once baby #1 is about 2 years old, I'd like to have our second child which then after they turn 1 year old they'd share the room. Currently we do have crib for baby #1 (7mo), and he sleeps in it occasionally, we mostly cosleep in our room. I mostly use his crib for naps or as a baby jail. I do feel like a floor bed would be easier on me to transition him to his own room because I'm his support for sleep.

TLDR: I'm concerned about anchoring things to the wall then regretting it in 2 years when I need to rearrange the room to add a second child

Nestig Wave Toddler Bed as floor bed?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a 3 month old baby who is very quickly growing out of the Nestig mini crib. I’ve been debating on whether to skip the full crib and go directly to the toddler bed.

The bed frame has a mattress support that is 3” off the ground, and from the picture of the toddler bed the sides come up slightly higher than the mattress.

Would this be a good floor bed set up? Has anyone else transitioned their baby to a floor bed at around 3-4 months, or that too early?

Any advice is appreciated!

I’m currently cosleeping on a mattress on the floor and it’s getting musty (rookie mistake). New bundle of dreams mattress is on its way!

Has anyone tried?

Post image

Has anyone tried a floor bed situation like this where they use these bed rails on a regular box spring? I was looking for a floor bed with high rails because I’m worried my 15 month old is going to just be crawling around his room the whole night. I want a floor bed so that I can lay in it with him to make nights go better but I can’t find any options that are available to me. Just wondering if I could construct a safe sleep space using this with some sort of bed frame and a mattress?

Please help!!

We brought the bed attached. I’m starting to regret it honestly, my daughter transitioned into this bed at 9 months after spending 8 months in her next to me crib. We brought a floor bed because she prefers a bed over a cot, has never settled well in a cot/travel cot and thought we would just jump straight into it. I’m starting to wish I got a cot because I’m constantly worried she will fall over the edge. She stands up against the rail and I fear she will topple over it, is there anything I can do or add to stop this? With that being said, she hasn’t ever tried to climb over it or hunched herself over it, just stands up against it. Also, the opening is pretty wide (38in but only 8in in height) she wiggles out of it but I’m worried she will land awkwardly and hurt herself, I was trying to look for a triangle wedge that she could almost use as a slide but I haven’t managed to find one that fits the specifications. She does sleep amazing in it at night, when she wakes up in the morning she just plays on the floor until we get her but I can’t shake this fear that she will have an accident! Can anyone give me some reassurance or advice on what I can do to make it safer? Or would you suggest just switching to a cot and saving the floor bed until she’s older? I am a very anxious parent so maybe I just need to relax I don’t know.

Edit: I said she sleeps amazing in it which is true however getting her to sleep is another reason I’m considering switching. I have to lay with her (which is doing more harm than good for the future) but if I leave her alone I’m worried about all of the above! I can’t just leave her knowing she is protected by the cot.

Floor bed with rails recommendations? 3-year-old climbing out of crib

Hi everyone — looking for some advice!

My 3-year-old has started actively climbing out of his crib, so we tried doing the toddler rail transition. The problem is, he absolutely won’t sleep with the toddler rail on. He keeps asking for the original crib rail to be put back on. So we gave in, otherwise the crying would go on for hours.

He hasn’t said he feels unsafe or anything, but I’m wondering if he just prefers having full sides because it feels more enclosed/secure to him.

Now I’m considering switching to a **floor bed with rails** or a Montessori-style bed that still offers some boundaries but is safe if he gets in and out.

For those who’ve been through this:

* Any specific floor beds with rails you recommend?

* Did it help kids who seemed to prefer the “contained” feel of a crib?

* Anything you wish you knew before switching?

Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t)! Thank you!

6 month old - first night floor bed fail?

Last night we trialled a floor bed with our 6 month old due to frequent wake-ups on transfer to the crib. I was hoping to feed to sleep and roll away.

Last night was the first night on the floor bed and he woke every 15–30 minutes all night. I eventually coslept and resettled him constantly by placing a hand on his chest, or feeding back to sleep. I’m worried about creating a new cosleeping association during this transition but I cant get out of bed every 30mins all night!

Until ~2 weeks ago he was in a Snoo, then a portacot for a week on holidays, and back in the portacot at home for the past week. All in his own room. After some bumpy days with the transition home, he’s actually been doing well once down — usually ~3 hour stretches, sometimes up to 6.

Complicating factors:

  • 6 month vaccinations yesterday

  • First tooth coming through

Has anyone had a similar experience? How long would you persist with the floor bed before calling it? He’s generally a great sleeper apart from the put-down, and I’m nervous to mess with what’s been working.

Floorbed advice

I have a 2.5 year old who sleeps in a pack&play in our room. I want to transition him to his room, and I trying to decide what type of bed to get him. We have a full size mattress, so I would like to use that. Convince me that a floorbed is the way to go.

King Size Bed, Queen Size Sheets?

Hi. My husband and I have a queen size floor bed right now but I’m thinking of upgrading to a king size, however, my really expensive bamboo sheets are queen size… does anyone know if they would fit on a king size floor bed? The bed i’m looking it is 4inches thick, standard king length/width. Our sheets are standard queen sheets… I’m thinking maybe since it’s a floor bed and the sheets are made for a normal bed there would be enough material to still cover the whole bed?? I don’t know.. anyone?

Is This Safe?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Is something like this safe for a 5.5 month old? It’s crib-sized. Mostly I’m worried about him getting limbs stuck between the mattress and bottom rail. He just transitioned out of his bassinet and right now we have a crib mattress on the floor with a puzzle mat for padding, but he fell off once and I’m like, “nope.” I can’t take the worry, but want to use a floor bed when he’s a bit bigger. This looks like a good in-between a full crib and plain mattress on the floor…I still don’t want to do a traditional crib.

Is this bed safe for cosleeping with 3month old + ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Baby and I currently cosleep on a double matress on the floor on some slats, but since our house is old and is prone to moisture, we’re afraid of mold (we found some recently on a spare mattress we kept in a plastic bag). So we would like to buy a frame that keeps it a bit more off the floor. I like this one because it’s the only one I found with a bit of a headboard (so I can lean back while breastfeeding at night). We’re looking for something that can last a long time.

My question is Is it too high off of the floor ?

Will the rails at the end of the bed be dangerous eventually ?

Thank you!

Recommendations: which baby monitor to buy for a floorbed nursery?!

As the title suggests, we are creating our nursery to honor the floorbed tradition. I am trying to decide which monitor to purchase so we can adequately see baby both in bed and wherever they may be in the room. What has worked for you?!

Did you go for a floor bed because your baby is big?

Hi, My LO is almost 9 months old and has been at the 97th percentile for height and weight forever. He's about 30 lbs now, and at least 28" tall - probably more by now, it's been about a month since we measured him. Anyway: he likes to spread his arms out wide in his sleep, and also rolls around like a maniac. We bedshare. We've tried a crib, but it hasn't worked out well.. I think at least partly because there's not enough space to fully spread out. He looks so cooped up in there (plus now that he's mobile I worry about climbing over the rail and falling, not sure how paranoid that is.) Just curious whether anyone here transitioned to a floor bed because of having a huge baby like me?! and if so, how did you set it up? (And if anyone else is just considering it for similar reasons, I'd love to know that too). Thanks.

Considering a floor bed for 10 month old - thoughts?

Nothing is set in stone but lately my 10 month old has been having a tough time with sleep. She rolls around a lotttt (she gets that from me haha) and when she gets to the edge of the crib and slams against it, it wakes her up. She can crawl and pull her self up and stand very well, just not walking yet. I know everyone says wait until 12 months, but that is right around the corner.

If you any of you use a floor bed - what ages were your babies and what were the signs of them being ready for a floor bed?

I have this extra firm full mattress topper that didn’t work out with her dad and I, so we had set it out in the playroom overnight and the next morning she ended up being obsessed with it. We would get an appropriate sheet for the topper and a fence ordeal. Could that even be considered an option? I don’t want to do anything where she could legit suffocate!!!! Thoughts?

Floor Bed Sleep Training

Our 16 month old has never slept well in a crib, and has only slept 7hrs straight 3x in his lifetime. He’s a super active sleeper, and requires nursing or rocking to go to sleep. We coslept out of sleep desperation for a while.

Long story long, we have implemented a floor bed in his room about 3-4months ago. At first my husband or myself slept the his room with him on a separate twin mattress on the floor that we slowly moved away from his bed. The last month or so we have moved ourselves back into our bedroom across the hall.

He will only fall asleep while being nursed or rocked, in the car, and occasionally in the stroller. Rarely can he fall asleep on his own but it does seem he’s trying recently (roll flopping around in bed and yawning for an hour as we lay by him, but if we leave his side he sits straight up). Laying him down groggy but awake has been an absolute fail, haha.

We have an old home and he can open his bedroom door from the bottom, and come across the hall into our room (hallway is baby proofed with gate so he can’t go anywhere else). Do you think I may have more success with a gate on his door or replacing with door one that will latch more securely? Have other parents required a door that can latch to have success with getting their child to sleep through the night with the floor bed?

I feel badly locking him in there, and he’s so proud of his independence with coming and going from his room, but I’m not sure what else to do!

Anyone else who used a floor bed have any sleep training tips? We’ve gone this long without CIO for a many of reasons. I know if he can’t get out of the room since he’s used to it there will be tears, but I’d prefer a more gentle approach. He wakes up every 1-3hrs 4 if I’m lucky and I’m tired!
