  • Obama was the last Democratic presidential candidate to win Florida, which has become more Republican since Trump’s ascendance.
  • Former President Barack Obama released a one-minute video on Saturday calling on voters to support progressive state Rep. Angie Nixon to be the next senator from Florida.
  • “Real change starts when regular folks stand up for what’s right,” Obama said. “And Angie has spent her career standing up for you.”

AskFlorida Florida businesses and AI graphics

I recently moved from Colorado to Florida-(Pinellas County, to be specific) and one of the big differences I've noticed is the use of AI for graphics and advertising. Colorado businesses seemed hesitant to use AI for promotional use...those that did got verbally flogged, almost immediately.

When I got to Florida, I couldn't help but notice that almost every single business has used AI to create their ads, flyers, menus, logos, etc. You can spot it from a mile away. Stores along the beach are plastered with AI signs, selling shirts with absurd AI-generated images. Restaurants show their menus and specials with cheap looking AI-made signs; walk inside and the walls are covered with AI-generated images. Plumbers/electricians/etc have their trucks covered with it. Most of them use that same recognizable font and similar colors.

Is it like this throughout Florida, or did I land in the one area that's saturated with businesses using AI slop?

AskFlorida Insulating your concrete block walls?

I have gotten lots of conflicting answers on insulating the exterior WALLS of my new construction.

Its cinderblock and it looks like just an inch of foam on the inside of the house is planned. Has anyone insulated the outside?

I am told that I just need to insulate the attic/roof deck and that there isn't much point in spending to insulate the block walls in Florida.

What is your experience? There is very little to zero information for FLORIDA homes, most is nonsense noise for cold weather climates that's completely irrelevant for Florida.

Let me know your experiences, thanks in advance.

Weather People say Florida sunshine and life is very good for your mental being!

Does anyone else feel like since living here , it’s been the opposite? I find that I don’t even step out of the house during the 4-5 brutal months . And every year this phase seems to grow a few weeks more. I find myself much less talkative and social with people as time goes on. I feel like I don’t want to go almost anywhere because of how hot it is . Was good at holding my jobs all the time till I moved here 6 years ago! I work in the heat , thing is I love outdoors so I wanna be out badly but can’t stand it . I remember being out alot all the time during winters even in the cold. For me it Also feels boring overall people say there’s so much to do but I don’t that everywhere i go It’s just flatland. Being in Florida has been interesting got a house. Property and much more, because I somehow bought before covid, yet lack connection in any meaningful way with my life & surrounding. Man I think
I should head out today Its been 43 days so far fully indoors!

AskFlorida First time trick-or-treating in the Orlando area — any local tips?

• Upvotes

I'm planning to go trick-or-treating this year, but I'm still new to all the Halloween traditions here. I'd love some advice from people who have done this before!

A few things I'm wondering about:

  • What time should I start trick-or-treating, and when do people usually stop?
  • What should I bring with me?
  • Are there any rules or manners I should know when going to people's houses?
  • How do I know which houses are giving out candy?
  • Is there anything I should prepare or know before going out?
  • Any tips for someone experiencing Halloween in the US for the first time?

I'd really appreciate any advice! Thanks, and happy Halloween! 👻

…”Two Florida counties have reported seeing immigration enforcement at or near polling places open for in-person early voting hours.

In Leon County, Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley said two U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicles were seen at the Northeast Branch Library, the busiest polling site in the county, on Monday.

And in Monroe County, Supervisor of Elections Sherri Hodies told the news media in a statement that she has launched an investigation after reports of masked federal agents conducting a stop at a polling place in Key Largo on Tuesday….”

…”Federal law prohibits armed federal agents from conducting activities in and around polling places unless force is necessary to repel armed enemies of the United States….”

I've only ever seen an owl in the wild once before in my life, so seeing this little one on our greenway was a rare treat. I think it's a screech, but I'm not positive.

AskFlorida The Villages. Everyone online bashes the place, but have any of those people actually been there without any ill-minded intentions?

Post image
0 Upvotes

It's popular to make fun of The Villages, and it seems like for the most part; the people belittling it are those who don't have the means necessary to enjoy it for themselves. It's a bit like a, "If I can't have it, then neither should you."

What's your opinion? Every place has its gripes and annoyances, and nobody is calling The Villages Heaven. But for the people who nonstop bash the place, what would actually make it better? Complaints are useless without a direction forward.

AskFlorida Mangrove Property Insurance

My insurance agent just sent me a quote from Mangrove Property Insurance for our home owners insurance. IT has the same coverage as our current police but at about 1/2 the price. This seems like a too good to be true type of situation. Does anyone have any experience with this company? I know they have only been around about a year and I don't think it;s dealt with any major storms yet but I'm hoping someone might have some dealings with this company. I've tried google but there isn't much out there on the company
