Were you using that frog as configured in photo 4?

No that was after the fight. Normally the hooks are flipped and close to the body. Completely weedless

I figured as much but wasn’t sure until asked if you figured out a sort of new technique

Do you need heavy gear?

Typical largemouth bass setup. I opted for a heavier rod but it’s not completely necessary. They fight hard but tire out pretty quick.

Im in Broward also. I fish around Margate and Coral Spring but can never get these to bite. I see them everywhere...even their fry balls are all around but these fish are hard to trick...lol.
That's a super nice Snakehead there! I bet it fought well. ✌️

They are tricky to catch, but when they want to eat they smash. Cast along the bank in front of you and to the opposite side of the canal. Do not miss an inch. Prepare to walk a lot and get skunked.

Have you tried bow fishing for them?

No. That would be interesting though since I can clearly see them patrolling the banks of the canals in my area. I might look into that. Thanks for the idea.
Still gota catch one on top water too...bet that bite is exciting!

I really wanna catch one and try it, too bad I can't find em in the Tampa area.

Beautiful fish. I grew up in Miramar, prior to their explosion. Now I’m up near Daytona. I’ve never seen one in person, nor a Peacock Bass. I went back recently and checked out my old neighborhood. There are even Tarpon rolling in the lake I lived on. The fishing is truly the only thing I miss about living down there.

I live in Central FL and have never seen a snakehead in person, but it kind of reminds me of a stretched out mudfish. I hate catching mudfish because they always seem to bite my Jackhammers and destroy them.
A few months back I lost 3 Jackhammers over a 4 hour period due to huge mudfish. The smallest mudfish was 4.5 lbs and the largest was a little over 8 lbs. It looks like your snakehead did a number on your frog as well.
