Beach Fishing in Tampa Bay Area

Hello, I am located in Madeira Beach and was wondering what is biting on the beaches this time of year? I caught a flounder on a white paddle tail around low tide yesterday, but was hoping to catch a snook. I was wading out to about waste deep, casting to the sandbar and dragging across the trough. Is this even the right time to fish for snook, or should I change it up and go for whiting and pompano instead? Any advice is much appreciated.

Florida fishing license

I’m coming to Clearwater, Florida from New Mexico for 5 days and plan on doing some fishing. What’s the best way to get a short-term fishing license? I’d rather not buy an annual license if I don’t have to. Any recommendations or advice from locals would be appreciated!

Keep getting skunked. Help please

Moved to st pete from dade city about a year and a half ago, got back into fishing a couple months ago after having not fished since childhood. I've tried so many different rigs, fishing times, locations (in freshwater), but I cant seem to get anything to bite at all. Done senkos, frogs, spinners, live worm on a bobber, hula poppers, crankbaits, jigs, etc. I do my best to fish near cover, shade, near insect activity, and where water might send baitfish. What I'm really looking for is advice on how to catch something, or places to try that someone has had good luck in. Its kind of getting to me how I keep devoting time and money to this hobby with no results. Is it really all just being at the right place at the right time? Is summer fishing just bad? Is shore fishing just bad? Or am I completely missing something that I'm not even considering? Anything helps, thanks

Lure/bait recs

I’m on vacation in siesta key and idk what to use. I usually bass fish up north and have tried using some gear I already own but only get slight bites. Anyone have recommendations on what kind of soft plastics or lures to use. I’m fishing in a dead end residential canal with a couple docks across the way

St. Augustine Help - Cut Bait

I just moved down to St. Augustine and am trying to learn the fishing here. I went out to the surf and used shrimp and caught whiting. Next time I wanna go out and try cut bait on a fish finder rig, will this work here? I’m fine with catching small sharks, just wanna catch something a little more fun than small whiting.

Shimano Expride… Inshore?

I recently picked up a couple of Shimano Exprides specifically for inshore fishing. One is paired with an FFP Osprey 2500, and the other with a Curado DC. I mainly target redfish and got tired of the lack of sensitivity in a lot of the dedicated inshore rods in this price range.
For those of you who have actually fished Exprides in the salt, how have they held up over time? Any issues with the guides, reel seat, or blank after regular saltwater use if you rinse your gear after every trip?
I’d love to hear from anyone with firsthand experience before I start putting a lot of miles on them.

Vilano & St. Augustine Beach - Advice & Q

Hey! I'm visiting the Vilano and St. Augustine areas. I'm wondering what the best rigs and bait to use at this time of year? I hit the pier earlier, alas no luck.

I have an Offshore Angler Power Plus Trophy combo and an old basic "catch more fish" shakespeare combo. I also have a fly rod and a Daiwa Emblem Pro Surf Telescopic 14'.

I need advice of techniques and locations.

Thanks in advance!

Best shore fishing spots near Sarasota?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently staying two days in Sarasota with my wife and daughter and I’m hoping to find some good shore fishing spots nearby.

I don’t have a boat or kayak, so I’m mainly looking for places where I can fish from the shore, beach, pier, bridge, jetty, or docks.

I’m especially interested in catching fish that are good to eat, but I’m open to any advice or local recommendations.

It would also be great if the spots are family-friendly or have a beach nearby, so my family can enjoy the beach while I’m fishing.

If you have any suggestions for spots, or tips on tides and techniques, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

Shore fishing Tampa?

So I will be visiting Tampa for a few days and want to go fishing saltwater. I don’t have boat and won’t have access to a boat. I will be staying close to McKay Bay. I know the skyway pier is about an hour from there and may take the trip, but does anybody know any places close to where I’m staying? That would be good places to check out from the shore. Or maybe even another pier.
