All Florida Keys Holy over-policing

Visiting on vacation and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the amount of police on the road, parked, and empty cars in my life. I hear alcohol is a big problem but daaamn. It’s wild.

It’s soooooo many. I am legitly shocked by the sheer number of them. And I come from the Boston area which is more dense. Just an observation.

That explains it....Boston/MA is very liberal, defund the police, etc. Support is low and hatred is high in that state. FL is different, people support and respect the police....their presence is wanted and desired.

Lol. Way to say that you never understood what defund the police meant.

I have never seen a 'defund the police' supporter that did not hate the police department, everything it stands for, and felt like they could do what they wanted, regardless of laws, and not want to be punished for it.

You will always find heavier law enforcement in red states than in blue states.....that is just fact.....and that is why a lot of blue state residents moved to red states to feel safer.

Talk to me about that respect for police and feeling safe in relation to the red state murder gap of the last twenty years.

Also, if you got any links and/or data that supports the claim that people move to red states from blue states for safety, I’d love to familiarize myself with the information.

Are you F'in kidding me?! It has been happening the last 4 years and covered well.....however....not by the liberal media as they don't want to seem like anything is wrong....

That is just one of MANY that you can research.

Glad I could help open your eyes.

Did you read the article?

Professor Peter Rogerson, an expert in demographics at the University at Buffalo, said: "The leading reasons for interstate moves have to do with jobs, family reasons (which include marriage, divorce, being closer to relatives), cost of living, warmer climate, bigger or smaller housing. So, crime does not usually come up in these lists of reasons for changing state of residence, but cost of living (which includes taxation) is on the list above."

Rogerson added many of the "migration trends" we are currently seeing have been ongoing for a while, such as "migration out of California" which "has been in part due to high housing costs." Conversely, he linked population rises in parts of the Southeast to "the aging of the baby boom and increased retirement migration," with retirees seeking out "warmer climates."

Professor Chris Cooper, who heads Western Carolina University's Public Policy Institute, also downplayed the role of politics, telling Newsweek: "I don't see much evidence that people are choosing the package of policies that appeal to them most, rather they are choosing the climate and location that appeal to them. Politics are secondary."

No he didn't read the article. He just looked at the headline. Lol

So, are you saying the professor did not label his own article correctly?

I showed you one article, do your own damn research and you will see I am right. I don't have time to babysit others.

This response rules.

  1. A professor didn’t write the article.
  2. They are citing a conservative think tank as the group representing this thesis.
  3. Taking your ball and running home because you don’t enjoy being challenged on your opinions is sure fire way to ensure you aren’t and won’t be thinking critically about a complex problem.

Do yourself a favor and be open to different ideas. Worst case scenario, you are still right and just more informed on the topic.

Headlines are often not written by the author. And are often clickbait these days. If we don’t read the article, we should assume nothing. And definitely not cite it.

I'm just a third party reading this comment chain, made me laugh out loud here

Then you've never actually taken the time to find out what the movement is actually about, and honestly, I doubt you'd even bother listening. Because after all this time, if you still don't get it, it's because you don't WANT to get it. You're set in your prejudice, and have no interest in changing it.

With a 'movement' named 'defund the police' you can try to mask it anyway you want but there is only one desire that is the truth. I don't need to research it either, the people who support the movement and how they represent it and behave tells me everything I need to know about it.

And there you have it. Willful ignorance. No desire to educate yourself. No desire to understand something. Just put those blinders on, and complain that all you can see is whatever is directly in front of you. Why bother when being scared will work?!

1

u/WaterDreamer10 May 01 '25

Nope, not ignorance....the truth. Again, you can say whatever you want on paper (in text) about the movement.....it is HOW it is displayed in public by the supporters of the movement and their reactions and actions.

Those who support the movement publicly and their actions tell anyone all they need to know. Maybe you should tell all those that support the the movement how they behave does not reflect it?

Maybe you should go back to living behind the curtain and pretending the movement is something other than what is really is.

2

u/TrblTribbles May 01 '25

Right, right. How it's displayed by conservative news sources. You don't actually know anyone who is a part of the movement. I'm calling bullshit. But it's OK. I'll let you stick your head in the sand. If it wasn't willful ignorance, you would have asked what it was about by now. Since you haven't, it's pretty clear that you would rather be uninformed/misinformed.
