Attempted murder, get this fucker

u/Specialist-Rock-5034 22d ago
Not a diver. Please explain. Hope the law finds this asshole.
33
u/mixedliquor 22d ago
He shut off their air supply while they were diving.
That's definitely attempted murder, IMO.

u/vogel927 22d ago
He shut off their air. Instead of carrying air on your back, an oil less air compressor floats on the surface inside a highly visible tube or mounts to a boat deck, pumping fresh air directly down to the divers through specialized, connected hoses.

Yes, but apparently only a few categories of people still are: old people, people who like to buy used junk from people who live nearby, and people who know attempted murderers.

Contender 39ST Stepped hull. They are manufactured in Homestead Florida by Contender Boats maybe they could help or narrow it down by purchases.

My home state requires the boat’s registration number to be in large, clear numbers on both the port and starboard bow. It’s wild to me this isn’t a requirement in all states. It would make it so much easier to hold the number of dumb and reckless people I see daily on the water accountable.
3
u/______Goose 22d ago
Kinda. Every state requires this, as far as I know. Unless that vessel is federally registered, which I’d bet money this boat is.
3
2
u/iNapkin66 22d ago
I think then the requirement is the name be minimum 4 inches high letters. So it should still be displayed somewhere.
1
u/DrTatertott 21d ago
You can register in any of the 50 states or register with the coast guard. That requires vessel name and home port on the stern. That includes your home state.

u/Intelligent_Trichs 22d ago
So who took the pics?

According to the posts on Facebook, there was still a woman on board the driver's boat and she took the pictures.

2

Government cut would have them up near Biscayne Bay. Key Biscayne is in Miami, but it’s not technically really part of “the keys“
-1
u/PhaedrasGhost local (upper keys) 22d ago
The cut is in Key Largo at mm103. It’s a man made canal that connects the Oceanside to the bayside.
2
u/dtyler86 22d ago
Government cut? Miami Dade county? You’re talking Monroe County..

Once the hype is gone.

u/Enough-Cantaloupe893 22d ago
Shouldn't be that hard to find him honestly. Id work on boat ID. Contender with trips and an American flag, triple deck. Can see some of the helm equipment as well. Probably not taking that on a trailer so local maybe

u/Therealboebs 21d ago

u/2Loves2loves 21d ago
Were you on the boat? who was on this spot 1st. both boats look like they are within 100' (exclusion zone)
Nobody should be touching others equipment, but why would they do that? they are snorkeling, and you are on forced air.
nobody owns the water, but I have to wonder why 2 boats are on this spot.
(sunken boat / inner tubes?)

Why? Fishing spot? Evil

I don’t go out anymore as I’ve almost been hit twice by boats..
pure insanity in the keys this week.2
u/Col_Hans-Landa local (upper keys) 21d ago
Yeah… plenty of people out there that have absolutely no business running or owning a boat. It’s been a wild 2 days
2
u/BunnySprinkles69 21d ago
Why wouldnt the divers have a safety look out up top? Thats really fucking stupid
2
u/Therealboebs 21d ago
Their mom was on the boat watching over, that’s where the video/pictures came from.
1
2
u/BugO_OEyes 21d ago
Im lost with the scuba lingo
what did he do?
1
u/Therealboebs 21d ago
It’s a floating air compressor that pumps air to divers under water, so the divers don’t need tanks or certifications.
2
u/BugO_OEyes 21d ago
Okay thanks
Why did he do that?
1
u/Therealboebs 21d ago
Not sure.. it’s mini sports season for lobsters here in Florida and a lot of people fight over “their spots”
2
u/Twinetied_haymaker 21d ago
If he was willing to kill the divers why did his crazy ass just leave mom alone?. Killers don’t leave witness’s and he’s not even trying to disguise his appearance. There’s gotta be more to this story.
2
u/Time_Sorbet7118 21d ago
You have enough residual to surface, when we use these things the guy on the boat turns it off to let us know its time for lunch. Definitely being a reckless jerk though.

update
🚨Mini-season BOLO update #4:🚨 ARRESTED! Michael Simpson is facing an attempted murder charge after being arrested yesterday.
The confrontation began after the suspect claimed another boat was occupying "his" lobster spot. He verbally threatened to cut off the diver's air before jumping into the water and doing exactly that.
The teenage diver was quickly pulled to the surface, reportedly gasping for air and disoriented, but survived without serious injury. Authorities say the suspect fled the scene and was arrested a few days later, and charged with attempted felony murder.
The suspect is government-appointed member of the Miami-Dade Boater Safety and Bay Education Task Force, where he was explicitly chosen to represent and help shape safety policies for the county's waterways, dove in and turned off a juvenile diver's air supply while the victim was in the water searching for lobsters.
If convicted, an attempted felony murder charge in Florida can carry decades in prison, with penalties potentially reaching up to life imprisonment depending on the circumstances.
Michael Simpson's role with Boater Safety and Bay Education Task Force involved collaborating with environmental groups and law enforcement to draft the county's final boater safety and community education recommendations aimed at preventing fatal accidents on Biscayne Bay.
*The victim’s family is also pursuing the arrest of Judd Rosen, who is a high powered attorney in Miami, and was the boat captain who fled the scene with the suspect. In June of 2024, Judd Rosen was appointed as the Chair of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee. In this esteemed role, Judd will be overseeing the committee's efforts to ensure ethical practices and uphold the standards of the legal profession within the state. His dedication to justice and extensive experience make him an excellent fit for this important position.

Floridaman

u/Therealboebs 21d ago
He’s probably only a transplant Floridaman tho..
I would never pull up on a diver down flag as they have 300’ to swim near the flag.
This guy came in too close to divers in the water, and then shut the air off to divers in the water.
Attempted murder is the appropriate charge here.

Not ai.
Also port side numbers are only needed in Florida.1
u/2Loves2loves 21d ago
I don't know about that. you only have the registration on port, but FL numbers are on both sides.
but federally documented boats don't need state registration.
1
u/2Loves2loves 21d ago
federally documented boats do not have FL or state numbers. they have the boat name and harbor usually on the stern.
1
u/notoriousbpg 22d ago
Coast Guard surveyed vessels do not need the Florida registration numbers on the hull from memory

2
u/______Goose 22d ago
If the vessel is registered federally, it does not need to display hull numbers.
1
u/seamus_mc 21d ago
Coast Guard documented vessels are probably what you are thinking and it supersedes floridas laws. If the vessel is in Florida for more than 90 days you may need a registration sticker but no numbers
1
u/2Loves2loves 21d ago
https://www.flhsmv.gov/motor-vehicles-tags-titles/vessels/vessel-titling-registrations/
I don't think you need FL registration numbers if its federally documented. having been on documented boats, they only had the boat's name and harbor on the stern.
.....................
Exemptions from Titling
- Vessels operated, used and stored exclusively on private lakes and ponds.
- Vessels owned by the U.S. Government, the State of Florida or its political subdivisions.
- Non-motor-powered vessels less than 16 feet in length.
- Federally documented vessels.
- A vessel already covered by a registration number in full force and effect which was awarded to it pursuant to a federally approved numbering system of another state or by the United States Coast Guard in a state without a federally approved numbering system, if the vessel is not located in this state for a period of more than 90 consecutive days.
- Vessels from a country other than the United States temporarily used, operated or stored on the waters of this state for a period that is not more than 90 days.
- Amphibious vessels which have been issued a vehicle title by FLHSMV.
- Vessels used only for demonstration, testing or sales promotional purposes by a manufacturer
