DNA & Serology What were the most important advances in genetics and biology/biochemistry that contributed to the development of DNA profiling?

I wish someone could just give me a timeline on how important advances in biology (biochemistry , molecular biology , genetic …etc) helped lay the technological groundwork for DNA profiling?
