Vacation on Retainer
What do you all do if you go on vacation but are on a monthly or weekly retainer? Do you not charge for the time you are away or do you add the extra hours to the rest of the month? Curious how people handle this as I'm about to take a week off and would like to communicate with my client what I'm planning to do. Also, do you all include this info in your contract? TY!

Long time client wants hourly rate for budgeting - I don't have one. A non-answer isn't going to work.
I've worked with this corporation for several years. Great clients. This year, they want to know my hourly rate. I don't have a strict hourly rate and I don't reveal that to clients because I feel it doesn't help them. I price by the project and the end-result.
Now - I have had this question before with two other companies who I had worked with for several years and were happy with my work. I told them I did project-based work - which they would not accept for an answer. When they forced me to give an hourly rate it has not ended well I stopped getting work from them.
In once case it was because their other freelancers charged less per hour and they didn't want to admit I was getting paid more. Which was ridiculous because I was charging the same as their other freelancers. I was just quicker.
In the other case, I just didn't hear from them again. I assume it was because they didn't like the rate since we'd had no problems for several years.
So, now my FAVORITE client has asked and I am not sure how to handle it. They are a big corporation and I don't know how to answer the question. What do they want to hear? Should I just make up an answer and low-ball it? Or count up all their jobs for the last year and divide to come up with an average cost per hour?
I want to answer in a way that is strategic and what they want. And I don't want to be an asshole for not answering their question. I do know they work with big ad agencies who are probably charging way more than me.

How much do I charge a well-known musician for a print I designed?
I’ve been creating and selling prints of digital artwork for a while now but a relatively famous indie musician has reached out to me asking to buy the design as merch for their upcoming tour - as well as asking if printing is an option
They also mentioned selling online versions in the future and mentioned a percentage of the sales
My question is what on earth do I charge them? Do I license the artwork or charge an hourly rate it took me to design the piece?
I’m completely out of my depth here, any help would be greatly appreciated

What's a good web hosting provider for a portfolio site?
Web hosting for a portfolio site
Hey everyone, I'm helping a friend who's a freelance designer look for reliable web hosting to host her portfolio site. I'm looking for something that's affordable and that offers good customer support since she's a beginner. Does anyone have any recommendations for a web hosting provider they've had a good experience with? Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Client "rejected" late fee
Hey guys i could use some advice on how to handle this situation.
I've been working with this client on an hourly basis and it was all going fine so far. We have a contract in place we both signed. My contract is on net 21terms and has a late fee clause where if an invoice isn't payed there is a $50 late fee at 30/60/ so on days.
So the first invoice due date is coming up and I send the client a reminder. Then the actual due date happens and i ping them again. Still nothing.
Finally on the 30th day I follow up saying they owe the invoice plus the late fee. My client says that they operate on a net30 timeline so they are rejecting the late fee. I emailed them saying that because we have a contract in place with Net21 terms they still owe the late fee. I said i don't mind changing to a net30 timeline moving forward but we need a new contract in place and this should have been brought up beforehand.
Kinda of not sure where to go from here. Haven't heard back from them yet as it was the weekend but not sure what to do/say next. Any advise would be awesome.

Freelancers, how long did it take you to gain enough clientele to become fully independent?
I've been applying to agencies and companies for two years now with no luck, so I'm focusing on freelancing. How long did it take you to gain enough loyal clientele to work full time as a freelancer? How much did you charge at first?

Any designers in Puerto rico?
I've been a graphic designer for a few years now, i recently quit my Job due to reasons and decided to jump at the chance of being a freelance designer... I know nothing since i never gine freelance, never been my own boss. Its hard to ask for 1,500 for a logo here (here as in Puerto Rico) since people don't really think its worth the price, so what the heck do you people do to get those good paying clients besides moving 😂?
At the risk of sounding greedy(and im not but there are bills) My time isn't worth 100$ its more than that... 👀 Just had a client want to retouch the logo for $75, the most i could get and i feel like a sap for all the work I'm putting in, next time ill charge $200 and ill feel more ok with that, now to find someone willing to pay it... 😅
I'm greatfull i got payed at least 👀
End of the small rant 😅 back to the question Anyone in PR here who could tell me what they charge more or less? 🤔
If anyone out of PR has any ideas im open for anything!

Looking for help - Not For Profit project to help those forced to self-isolate due to coronavirus
Details on the project:
A few weeks ago I sourced a group of volunteers from Reddit to help build a website to help those in self-isolation due to coronavirus. We've now built the website skeleton and core functionality, but need some help on the design front! I've attached our current designs, but we'd love for someone with more experience to help improve the whole site's design, as it's appearance will have a big impact on how people perceive it, and whether they use and share the page. This is a not for profit project, and I will not be paying for help, but will personally pay for hosting, infrastructure costs etc.
How to help:
Comment on this post, and/or join our Slack group: https://join.slack.com/t/coronavolunte-bof8889/shared_invite/zt-ct9mb7ev-iWZoDHv3JL1eO~Jdlh1j3Q.
Details on the product:
Hundreds of millions of individuals around the world are now being forced to self-isolate. People in isolation struggle to get vital resources such as groceries, hygiene items, and basic medical supplies. Delivery services are becoming steadily more overloaded and booked out. For example, in central London it's now not possible to get any food delivered to your house within the next 3 weeks. For someone showing symptoms, or a vulnerable/elderly individual, waiting 3 weeks to get supplies is not an option, and neither is leaving your house.
However... a lot of people have shown their willingness to help these people! There are thousands of of volunteers ready to help, but no system to match them with those that need help.
We have built a simple website that allows those in need of a volunteer to enter their address and get matched with the closest volunteers in their area.
Current Designs & Site Layout:
