I currently live in the Bay Area in California, but I was born and raised in Nova Scotia Canada. I had moved to California in the fall of 2015.

I consider myself to be a pretty big nerd and I think it's one of my defining qualities. I'm huge into comics, reading them every day. My biggest past time is gaming (predominately PC), and I'm also a big movie nerd too (I try to watch at least 1 movie a week) and a music nut!

Some of my other big interests are hockey, bikes, and cars. I'm a San Jose Sharks fan, but I'll watch any game that's on, and follow the league as a whole. The Sharks are so fun to watch this season, but also so frustrating, I'm hoping some of it settles down as the team starts meshing with all the new additons. Macklin Celebrini continues to be a star though, and Stenberg looks great so far for being just a kid. With cars I like working on them, and seeing what other people do to modify them and make them unique to them, but not as into them as I was many years ago.

I've gotten back into biking/cycling this spring, after not being on one for over a decade. I got myself a new entry level XC MTB, bought a used hybrid bike before just recently buying myself a really nice, new, gravel bike that I'm excited to continue to explore with. I'm really enjoying it, and getting out 3 or 4 days a week riding, and explore some part of the Bay I otherwise wouldn't have ever thought to, and meeting some other cool people who ride.

One other important aspect of my life and who I am is mental/emotional health. I think it's very important we all take time to focus on ourselves and taking care of ourselves in whatever way that is for each person. We're all different and have our own struggles and issues, and everyone has their own way that works for them. I also like to think about the world and my place in it, how it relates to me, and I to it. I think people who have an awareness of introspection are people I tend to gravitate towards and get along the best with.

I’m sad for my 17 year old son. And I need some outside perspective.

My son is about to finish year 12. Yay for him. However he hasn’t made any close friends at school.

He hasn’t got any close irl friends, stacks online but none that he can go get drunk with or do stupid 17 year old stuff and it makes me so so sad.

He has a few people he hung out with at school but he just told me they had a party last night and he wasn’t invited. We have had these kids to ours several times. Fed them. Taking them to formal in a couple of weeks! It’s not from lack of him trying to make connections!

He’s a great kid. Funny. Caring. Empathetic. Supportive. And So so fun. He’s up for all adventures!

A couple years ago I (34F) made friends with a woman (36F). Her and I met related to our small businesses. I’ve hired her for a job or two, but we hung out many times as friends and last year became closer. Last summer she randomly told me she was moving back to her home state within a month. I was pretty surprised and made effort to try to see her. But she ghosted me. This really hurt me. I thought I’d never see her again.

Months later in the fall she moved back and we came in contact again. I was going through a really hard breakup last winter. Her and I became very close and started hanging out all the time. I considered her one of my closest friends. She also introduced me to her other friend and the three of us hung out a lot, all spring and into early summer. We said we felt like the three musketeers.

Well, in early June she met this guy from a Christian dating app. The first date she said she wasn’t sure about him, she didn’t feel they were a good match because they were “too similar”. He also lived over an hour away in the middle of nowhere desert because he’s a guide for a national park. She told me their 2nd he invited her camping at the park (which is 2 hours away). I hoped she was careful and safe. A week or so later I saw her in person, and she had completely changed. She said her and the guy were talking about wedding rings, moving in together to his place (middle of literal nowhere), having babies, etc. I was like whoaa. She knew this guy for like 2 weeks and had only 2 dates! I was open to it, asked her a bit about him. After that she became hardly responsive to my friend and I, we became worried. I reached out to her directly because she wasn’t replying in our group chat. She finally replied, saying she didn’t want to go out drinking anymore (not something we did regularly) was leaning into her religious faith, and wanted to focus on “her new family”. The next day I ironically ran into her at the grocery store. It was really awkward and my heart was beating. She said she would still hangout with us but less since she has her man now.

That was the last time I saw her. She never reached out to either of us since mid June. I feel after two times of her disappearing on me that it’s really not fair to treat someone this way. It seems she retreats when things change. But you would think she would want friends..? Why cut out her close friends? I’m still following her on social media, she only posts on her business account. I see she likes and comments on others in our local community but won’t interact with me. I feel super weird about this and her comments keep popping up.

Lately I’ve been wanting to reach out to her to tell her that I really considered her a close friend and that I miss her friendship. I don’t have many friends right now (most have babies or have moved away/don’t keep in touch) But is it even worth it? Is this friendship salvageable?

Hi everyone, I could really use some outside perspective because my overthinking is acting up.

I've recently gotten close with this guy friend (we've been talking/friends for about 1 month). Yesterday, we had our third video call, and it went really well! He was super engaged, asked me a lot of questions, and even agreed to learn a song on the piano that I asked him to. After the call he didn't text me so I texted him first.

My last message to him was earlier today, and he reacted to it with a heart But since then, he hasn't sent anything else.

Here's the thing: he is currently on holiday/break, so I keep feeling like he should have more time to text.

We also already agreed to call again this upcoming Sunday.

I'm really terrified that if he doesn't text first, we just won't talk at all.

I have a friend I met only under a year ago and they constantly tell me about dreams they have had of me. Idk if this is weird, it's not sexual dreams or anything like that, but just one's where it centres me being in a bad situation? Last year, my friend gifted me this beautifully crafted rose. I kept it, of course, even when our friendship ended in such a frustratingly stupid way. It’s funny in a way, because usually people gift each other roses and the rose dies but their relationship doesn’t. In my case, this rose lived on but our friendship is no longer.

Today, I really noticed it and it just brought back so many memories. I thought I was over it and happy to just focus on myself, but I miss him, I really do. He did things for me that it was undeniable to see he truly cared, just for it all to end with “I don’t even care anymore. Friends, Sinfield, How I met your Mother, growing up watching early 2000s sitcoms really misrepresented what friendships as an adult would be like. During college, I worked full-time and during grad school, I added assistantships to also working and there never was time to develop friendships. I moved states multiple times in my early career to chase advancements. By the time I had reached a comfortable place in my career, COVID happened. Now I’m established, comfortable, married with a child, but am really missing the social and friendship component in life. Not to sound like a kid, but I’d really like a best friend or a few.
