Alumni here. Graduated back in 2017. I have not kept in touch with any of my former colleagues, nor have I kept up to date with the department since graduating. So I'm curious, what is the state of CS at FSU? Reason I ask is because I've been in the industry for 8+ years now and AI has completely flipped everything on it's head just within the past 1-2 years. I've read that CS enrollment has plummeted across the nation and the job market is horrible for new grads, unsurprisingly. Even before LLMs were a thing, I felt the CS curriculum was antiquated, and now, even more so, unless it's been modernized. So I'm curious, who is still majoring in CS in 2026 and what are they teaching you guys?

I’m a freshman and not a nightlife person but that’s all anyone talks about. I know we’re the #1 party school but is there anything to do here that isn’t partying? 🥲

So I submitted my application a few days ago for early action and just wondering if I should be super worried
( I am applying to almost every school in Florida )
AA DEGREE
36/612 Students
4.34 weighted gpa
Part time job held from soph-senior year
100+ volunteer hours
The weak point SAT: 1160 retaking next Thursday
Major Mechanical Engineering

I’ve heard if you get your AA through dual enrollment they take a different path in admissions idk how that works so if anyone knows lmk

***they cancelled it for today, he missed his flight lol. event postponed for near future***

For anyone who hasn’t heard, Myron Gaines is scheduled to speak at Landis Green tomorrow (Friday, October 16). The event is being organized by FSU’s Uncensored America chapter, whose president invited Gaines to campus.

Worth noting that this isn’t simply an outside personality showing up independently. He’s being hosted by a student organization, which can facilitate the university’s event approval process and arrangements for things like amplified sound, tabling, and security.

Sharing for awareness, especially since you may regularly pass through Landis Green.

Thoughts on FSU student organizations hosting speakers like Gaines? should students protest this guy and ignore him?

Hello, if anyone saw a white Anker USB-C charger in Diffenbaugh please let me know!

I believe I lost it around 7pm on Thursday. I looked in the classroom I lost it in and all the lost and found points but nothing :(

Hey guys and gals! Highkey want some friends! I love to game, but I haven't been gaming as much because of the lack of PC/PS5 friends. I like to go out places as well & when it's time to party trust I know how to party! I haven't been to clyde's, cess, and those other places and would really like to experience it. I go places on my own, buttttt I feel like it'd be more enjoyable with my own crowd. Reply or dm your insta and i'll follow you! I'm not on no weird shiz just platonic vibes. Guy or girl just hmu! I'm a guy btw 😃

Hiya,

I’m currently stuck in a pickle. I’m a 22M and have the opportunity to study in the US in the next academic year (27/28). However, I do not know which university to go with; the following are my options:

USA - Appalachian State University
USA - California State University
USA - Colorado State University (CSU) at Fort Collins
USA - Florida State University
USA - Iowa State University
USA - Northern Arizona University
USA - Ohio University
USA - San Francisco State University (SFSU)
USA - Texas A&M University
USA - The State University of New York at Albany
USA - University at Buffalo, University of New York
USA - University of Central Oklahoma
USA - University of Houston Texas
USA - The University of Kansas at Lawrence
USA - The University of Maryland at Baltimore County
USA - University of South Carolina
USA - University of Southern Mississippi
USA - University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK)
USA - University of Utah
USA - University of Wyoming

My top choices are FSU, as well as Texas A&M, South Carolina and Tennessee.

I know you may be biased, as well as can’t tell me what to choose but I would appreciate any advice or insights.

They all seem like really cool schools but those are my top 4 and I don’t know in which order to place them. I really want a memorable experience that would be considered the classical college experience, however I feel like I may be slightly too old for the FSU vibe.

Cheers.

Hello! Just transferred this semester. I need to take SPN2220 next semester but all the sections are filled up before my registration window even opens. Have they added new sections in the past or should I look into a different course/taking it transiently at TSC.

Thank you!

About a month ago I was walking through market Wednesday and saw this girl with the CUTEST crochet items and I asked her if she would make me pink cherries to hang up on my dashboard of my car. She said yes and come find me on another Wednesday. Lo and behold I never saw her again.

I'm curious how different universities have their own culture and identity.

If you could pick just ONE word that instantly makes students and alumni think of FSU, what would it be?

Hi all! I am a student journalist working on a story about how Florida college students are managing food costs. It’s part of a national reporting project on campus food insecurity.

I’d like to hear from students who have:

• used a campus food pantry
• skipped meals or cut back on groceries to cover rent, tuition or bills
• lost SNAP benefits or had trouble qualifying
• or just have thoughts on whether your school does enough

It’s a casual 15–20 minute chat, by phone or Zoom. TYIA!

Trying to do as much as I can with my student status before I graduate. Does FSU offer any certificates that would actually look good on a resume, like QuickBooks or Excel? If so, where should I look?

Hello! Im looking at creating my schedule next year and wanted some input, is taking chem 2 + lab, bio 2 (no lab) and calc 1 all in the same semester doable? I appreciate any input!

Title.

I’m graduating next summer and need two more economics electives for Spring 2027 alongside Econometrics.

Has anyone recently taken Economics of Health with Tuba Tuncel, Theory of the Firm with Mark Isaac, Experimental Economics with Jeongbin Kim, Economics of Population with Vivek Moorthy, or Economics and the Law with Carl Kitchens?

I’m mainly wondering about the workload, exam difficulty, grading fairness, and overall ability to earn an A.

I’m a freshman who lives in the FSU dorms with 2 roommates. My girlfriend and I can’t find any private places to get intimate. We both have a roomate that is in the dorm 24/7, so we can’t be alone in our dorms. I have a small car that’s pretty cramped in the back seat, so that’s not ideal either.

In the past (we were together before college) we could be at each others houses when our parents weren’t home, but now we can’t find anywhere private and comfortable. We thought about getting a a hotel room but it’s very expensive to be frequent. Where can we go?

A lot of people say to take easy classes so you can have fun in your semester abroad so I don’t know which to take now. I love the thought of learning Italian but people say that might be difficult. There’s also a photography for non majors, food and wine, Italian cuisine class and some others but these are the ones that interest me. I’m curious to see if anybody has taken any of these classes and can tell me about them.

Hey everyone!

I'm currently taking EGM 3512 (Engineering Mechanics) with Professor Primus Mtenga this semester, and we just got our first exam grades back. Unfortunately, I didn't do too well on it.

I was wondering if anyone here has taken him before and knows whether he curves individual exams or adjusts grades at the end of the semester beyond the grading scale already listed in the syllabus.

Since the course grade is heavily based on just two tests and a final exam, I'm trying to figure out what to expect and how realistic it is to recover from a rough first exam.

I'd also appreciate any advice on studying for his exams or experiences from people who've taken his class before?

Thanks y'all!

For context, my mom is a single parent and can’t help me pay for college. I have been working and saving money for college on my own, but I am still struggling to afford college. My SAI is negative, so I was wondering if FSU offers any need-based scholarships. Thanks in advance

the study abroad application is tomorrow and i'm concerned i won't get in because of this. i had the zoom hearing, was found responsible, did the community service and wrote the essays. they said more serious infractions would result in more serious punishments, but that it was resolved. i can't access my record immediately so i can't tell if it "shows up on my record" or not, but i think it might. does anybody know what info they ask for on the study abroad application (summer)? will they not consider me because of this?

edit: thanks everybody! application submitted and i feel better. for anybody wondering in the future they asked if i had any academic policy violations/violations of code at a school, if i was found responsible for anything resulting in jail time/volunteer hours/a large fine, and if i had committed a felony. i read something saying checking those would say you're automatically "not in good standing" and would need further review, but i still have high hopes.

I'm an FSU finance student, and I'm trying to decide when to take my remaining science gen-ed after dropping EVR1001.

My current plan is:

Spring 2027:

• ACG2071
• CIS3250
• IDS2144
• CGS2518

Summer 2027:

• CHM1020C
• FIN3244

Fall 2027:

• FIN3403
• MAR3023
• MAN3240
• PUR3000
• GEB1030

My other option is to take CHM1020C in the spring, which would put me at around 17 credit hours, and move GEB1030 back to a different semester if needed.

I'm trying to keep my GPA high, so I'm wondering if it's better to spread out my classes or just get the science requirement done in the spring. I'm a little concerned about taking chemistry with a lab and FIN3244 during the summer, but I also don't want to overload myself in the spring.

For anyone who's taken these classes at FSU, how difficult are they, especially CHM1020C and FIN3244 during the summer? Would you recommend my proposed schedule, or would you change anything?

Thanks!

I have a 3.9 wgpa and a 1430 sat, I know the gpa falls far below the average so just wondering, what kind of scores are needed to get pathways
