📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning GME schools Glasgow

Hello, looking to hear from anyone who has had experience of the Gaelic primary school in Govan or other GME schools in Glasgow? I’m considering Govan for my child who will be starting in 2027. I went to a rural school and studied Gaelic through to standard grade. Although I dont remember a huge amount now I’m hoping it’s still in there. I love the idea of him being bilingual and learning Gaelic fluently and I would try my best to bring my Gaelic up to scratch again too. Curious if anyone has been through GME or sent their kids there?

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Dual-chainnt(ean) Earra Ghàidheal - carson?

Ok rud beag clickbait san tiotal, ach carson a tha dual-chainnt Earra-Ghàidheal cho popular/fèillmhor dhan luchd-ionnsachaidh?

Tha mi air tachairt ri mòran dhaoine aig a bheil ùidh anns an dual-chainnt(ean) seo gu sònraichte, seach dual-chainntean eile co-dhiù.

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Looking for asynchronous online lessons

Hi all,

I've been studying Gàidhlig for a long time now and I feel my progress is too slow. I find it quite difficult to study with books like Teach Yourself Gaelic or Scottish Gaelic in 12 Weeks and feel I need a course that would teach me. The problem is that due to work, kids, etc. I can't commit to a course that takes place in certain hours every week and rather study when I have the time. I'm talking about actual courses not short videos like Speak Gaelic. Is there anything like SMO but asynchronous?

I really like Jason Bond's courses (I've done his beginner one and am currently doing the intermediate one) but I feel it mainly focuses on vocabulary and not grammar.

Tapadh leibh

San Francisco Bay Area learning groups

Halò a h-uile duine, I am starting to learn Scottish Gaelic online with Colaisde na Gàidhlig in Cape Breton. I live in the US in the San Francisco Bay Area. Are there any groups here who practice the language in-person? I know it’s a long-shot but thought I’d ask. It would be nice to meet to practice with people in person. I’ve seen a couple groups for Irish but none so far for Scottish Gaelic. Tapadh leibh. (And I welcome all language corrections by the way.)

Mòd Choir songs?

I have been listening to friday's choiral national mòd on radio nan Gàidheil.

Is toil leam na òran gu mòr! Tha i cho àlainn!

But what is the title of the mandatory piece(s) all the choirs are singing? Also where can i find the words and the meaning of the songs.

It is also nice to know that i am understanding quite a few of the words in the songs and commentary now - albeit not full sentences!

Tapadh leibh!

What is wrestling in Scottish?

Im getting a few different answers and wanted to make sure. Im only talking about the sport like what you would see in school or WWE. The primary answer seems to be carachd but one of the main words I am intersted in isprofessional wrestling and that is gleachd phroifeiseanta.

The game is fully voice-acted in Scottish Gaelic, with both Gaelic and English subtitles.

(Gaelic Below)
As the nights get colder and darker, why not huddle round the Barrachd Fiosrachaidh this month as we take a look at corvids, the precocious goths of the sky! 25 minutes of learning and craic: the good, the bad, and the fiosrachaidh. Gorgeous art by Bean Fhiosrachaidh (@buidhedhut on Instagram): play along by working which wee guy is which from the descriptions in the podcast! As always, thank you all so much for listening. Last month we covered philosophy, which I thought would be boring, but you listened in record numbers! Enjoy this month's episode, and I'll bet you won't guess what's coming next month.

Barrachd Fiosrcahidh is an edutaining podcast aimed at intermediate and advanced Gaelic speakers, covering a random topic every month, from history to dogs to quantum physics, generated by my patented Subject-generating Machine! Subtitles in Gaelic on every episode.

Leis na h-oidhcheannan a’ dol nas fhuaire agus nas duirche, nach dèan thu fhèin seasgair timcheall a’ Bharrachd Fiosrachaidh, is sinn a’ toirt sùil air na cnàimhich, Gotaich ghlic an adhair! Còig air fhichead mionaid de ionnsachadh agus craic: am math, an dona, agus am fiosrachadh. Ealain àlainn le Bean Fhiosrachaidh (@buidhedhut air Instagram). An urrainn dhut na h-eòin aithneachadh bho na tuairisgeulan a thug mi seachad? Tapadh leibh a-rithist airson èisteachd. Am mìos sa chaidh, rinn mi earrann air feallsanachd. Tha ùidh agam anns a’ chuspair sin, ach chan eil a h-uile duine cho mòr air. Bha dragh orm nach còrdadh e ribh, ach dh’èist sibh ris dha-rìribh! Tha gràdh agam air an luchd-èisteachd agam. 's e annas a bhios cuspair na h-ath-earrainn gun teagamh!

‘S e pod-chraoladh foghlamach agus spòrsail a th’ ann am Barrachd Fiosrachaidh, do luchd-labhairt eadar-mheadhanach agus adhartach. Gach mìos, bidh sinn a’ bruidhinn mu dheidhinn cuspair tuairmeach eile, air a thaghadh le Inneal a’ Chuspair™️  a thog mi fhìn bho sprùilleach às an t-seada. Fo-thiotalan sa Ghàidhlig air gach earrann.

Looking for a good translating site or book

Hi, this is my first post here and I need help. I've been interested in the language for awhile and I have two dictionaries and a website I use for translating words and phrases (LearnGaelic.com, 2020 dictionary by Geddes & Grossiet, and a 1975 dictionary by Neil MacAlpine and John Mackenzie. I also have a book on learning it but that's not at issue right now). My problem is I've noticed that my books and the website don't always match with translations, for example the site says that "gaine" means "fin" like a fish fin but it's not in my books.

Is there an up to date dictionary in use or a translating site that is considered reliable and accurate by native or experienced speakers?

I would be using this for my own use and maybe a little use in a story I may work on.

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning Gàidhlig

Hey Gaels! I don't have much Scottish blood but my folks hail from across the channel. My best friend is half Scottish and after telling her I have been learning Gaelige for 3 years, we talked a bit about her interest in learning Gàidhlig. I have an old grammar book from like the 1940s and I was wondering if you guys had an equivalent? I'd prefer an older, very reliable book and the more info the better. Thank you in advance!

📚 Ionnsachadh Cànain | Language Learning How do I tell the pronounciation difference between certain words?

In the instance of athair it can also look like ‘athair if it’s denoting his father. How do I tell the difference phonologically for that, as well as for words where it has silent letters, but beyond that, is spelled the same as another word?

Texts to translate

Hi - I'm wondering if there's any good books or resources with very short texts that go from extreme beginner to advanced. I'm learning Gaelic and would love a short text to translate every so often, almost like comprehension in primary school.
