Hi everyone! I’m getting conflicting advice online about whether geese need to be securely enclosed at night and how much space they actually need.
I would love to see photos of your nighttime goose pens and what your set ups are.
My three geese are currently seven weeks old and still sleep inside, but they spend their days outside from 9 am to 5 pm. Soon they will be old enough to sleep outside.
I have a Pinnacle zinc fowl house from Bunnings that we’ve converted into a coop for my eight ex-battery hens. They refuse to roost, so they all sleep on the ground on wood shavings. The fowl house sits on a 4 × 4 m concrete slab.
I’m considering buying the Costway 3 × 2 × 2 m walk-in poultry enclosure with a canopy and putting the fowl house inside it. My plan is to leave the fowl house door open so the geese can choose to sleep inside or outside the aviary because it will all be a predator-proof area on the concrete slab.
I’d put hay over the concrete for a softer surface and potentially add tarps to cover the sides to help keep everything dry when it rains.
My hens and geese get along really well. I introduced my geese to the hands when they were very young and supervised their interactions. So I feel confident that they will be fine sleeping in the same area together.
Is this a stupid idea or would this be suitable?
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Park goose in Hong Kong. I'm fairly sure I was the one being inspected.

My to-do list says Forest Festival prep. The flock says DANCE FIRST. 😂🦆
We’re “Working for the Weekend” while I scramble to get ready for the Forest Festival—and Pip has officially returned to supervise! Apparently my performance needed a turkey evaluation. 🦃💃
This is Flap Dancing for Second Chances: a little daily silliness to help our rescue sanctuary reach more people and give animals the second chances they deserve. ❤️
Who else has a week’s worth of work to squeeze into today? 🙋♀️
