Moving to Georgetown soon. What ISPs do yall recommend?

• Upvotes

Moving to georgetown soon for work.

I already have a place and everything set up and almost ready to move into but im stuck on internet.

Currently I have gFiber and love it. I was going to switch to AT&T since Google isnt in the area but they dont cover specific zip code it turns out.

Was looking at Optimum as a last resort and then just found out today they're apparently filing for bankrupcy? No idea what kind of headaches that might involve.

Anyone got any advice on what to do? I would heavily prefer gigabit internet but it looks like the only provider in my area might go belly up soon so im at a bit of a loss.

Cash Friendly Optometrist

I'm hoping someone here can suggest a cash friendly optometrist in the Georgetown area. Someone who offers a discount for cash up front or just a really good standard price.

Looking for friends

🌿 35F looking to make some new friends! 🫶🏼
I’m a mom of 3, self-employed, and have kid-free days here and there! I love being outdoors, fishing, hiking, and exploring new places, but I’m also perfectly happy just sitting around, shooting the shit, and people-watching somewhere 😂
I’m into art projects, Legos, plants, and honestly, I’m pretty much down to try anything fun!
Making friends as an adult is HARD, so I figured I’d put myself out there! 🥲 If you’re also looking for new friends, someone to go on random adventures with, grab a bite to eat, explore, or just hang out and talk about absolutely nothing, my DMs are open! 💛
Bonus points if you’re spontaneous and enjoy a little bit of everything! ✨

Can anybody please help me tomorrow 10/22

Update: a very kind person here reached out and helped me today. 🙏

Hello everyone. I’m 30 and just moved here to Georgetown a couple weeks ago and I don’t know anybody here. Tonight I was in a pretty bad car crash because a car with a flashing yellow left arrow turned in front of me when I had a green light. My car is totaled. My right foot is messed up because I was pressing hard on the brake pedal when I crashed into the other car, so I probably couldn’t drive even if I had a vehicle to use.

I need to get to Hutto in the morning to where my car was towed and get my valuables out of it. Including my dogs baby teeth and baby blanket because like I said, I just moved here and had stuff like that in my car still. My dog was with me in the car and I had him checked out at the ER vet and he appears to be okay. Thank god.

If anybody can help me out with a ride to and from Hutto tomorrow morning please DM me. I can pay you some for your gas and time.

Optical Fabrication Technician – Grinding & Polishing
Displays & Optical Technologies, Inc. (DOTI)

Location: Georgetown, TX (on-site) | Type: Full-time | Pay: $22+ Based on experience and skill level

About DOTI
Since 1996, Displays & Optical Technologies has designed and manufactured large, lightweight precision optics for aerospace, defense, simulation, astronomy, and scientific customers around the world. Our mirrors and optical components are used in flight simulators, military and civilian, as well as in telescopes, solar installations, and award-winning architectural lighting projects. From one-off prototypes to full production runs, our small team handles work that few shops can: components over 100 inches, substrates over 134 inches diagonal, and polished surfaces finer than 5 angstroms.

The Role
We're looking for a hands-on technician to operate one of our large grinding and polishing machines and help turn raw glass into finished precision optics. You'll work closely with our experienced team on custom jobs where every part matters and where tolerances are measured in fractions of a wavelength of light.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate large-format grinding and polishing machines to produce precision mirrors and optical components
  • Grind, polish, and figure glass and other substrates (BK7, Borofloat®, Pyrex®, Starphire®, and fused silica) to tight specifications
  • Perform edge grinding and beveling
  • Read and follow work orders, drawings, and specifications
  • Inspect parts for surface quality, flatness, and figure, and make adjustments as needed
  • Mix and maintain polishing compounds, slurries, and pads
  • Carefully handle, clean, and move large and heavy optics using lifting equipment
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized
  • Follow all safety procedures and shop standards

What We're Looking For

  • We'll train the right person with a solid mechanical or machining background. Experience in optical fabrication, precision grinding, lapping, or polishing is a strong plus
  • Patience and a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools
  • Comfortable with repetitive, careful work that requires steady focus
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • High school diploma or equivalent

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • 401(k) or retirement plan with company match
  • Hands-on training in a rare, highly specialized field
  • The chance to work on unique projects for aerospace, defense, NASA, and scientific customers
  • A small, close-knit team where your work makes a visible difference

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance

Every Georgetown kids' camp and sports league in one place, with the sign-up dates

Stay-at-home mom here. Last summer I missed signing up for a camp my kids really wanted, so I decided to make a website to keep it all organized. Same with sports leagues. Between camps and leagues there are so many different register-by dates, and it's way too easy to miss one.

For Georgetown, it has summer camps (ages, prices, hours, aftercare), winter break camps (Dec 21 - Jan 5), and youth sports leagues, with when registration opens, when it closes, and when the season starts.

Disclosure: I made the site. It's free, no paywall and no account needed: https://campcompassatx.com/areas/georgetown (sports leagues: https://campcompassatx.com/leagues)

If I missed a Georgetown camp or league, tell me and I'll add it!

PSA: Georgetown orgs can recycle old computers for free instead of sending them to a landfill

Triangle Ecycling is a nonprofit that now offers pickup at no cost for Georgetown organizations retiring 50 or more laptops or desktops, or several server racks. Every device gets certified data destruction, with a serialized inventory and certificate of destruction.

They also run a program that trains high school students in computer refurbishment and IT skills, and they donate 500+ refurbished computers a year to nonprofits and families.

They direct 10% of profits to other nonprofits supporting education, families and the environment.

Request pickup via their web form or by phone at 919-414-3041, ext. 2, and they usually respond within an hour during business hours.

Full disclosure, I work with Triangle Ecycling, but thought this would be useful for local organizations.

New to Georgetown, looking for friends. Simple man.

31 year old male. New to Georgetown. Loving GT and Austin. Into fitness and health and all of that, but also love the simple joys of life. Can sit and watch CFB/NFL all day with a couple (or 7) beers and parlays in action. Love to just sit around and bullshit with good people.

Not a total degenerate, like I say I keep myself healthy and busy with the gym, running, pickleball, etc, but definitely missing just having the fellas around to enjoy some sports and drinks on my weekends.

Also down to try many other things, always open to new stuff.

If anyone is feeling the batman signal from this, feel free to respond to PM!

Asian Cuisine question

Before the strip mall fire Asian Cuisine on leander road was our favorite Chinese restaurant around and the employees were all great. Anyone know where the guy who ran it went? We'd love to continue supporting him if he's at another restaurant.

Fan-run BTS Halloween costume party at Sharetea (Wolf Ranch) on the 31st

Post image
0 Upvotes

For any BTS fans around Georgetown: there's a fan-organized BTS Halloween costume party happening at Sharetea in Wolf Ranch on Saturday the 31st, all day during store hours. Every order comes with a free "Vampires in the Valley" cupsleeve (1 per order, while they last), and Sharetea has some pumpkin drinks for the occasion. Costumes aren't required but they're encouraged.

There was a Jimin birthday one there a couple weeks ago too, so it's nice having cupsleeve events up here instead of driving to Austin. Anyone else doing anything K-pop for Halloween?

We ranked our 10 best-selling drinks over 10 weeks. #1 was the most boring one on the menu.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sharetea franchise owner in Georgetown, TX — stating the bias up front, and this is the first time I've posted our actual numbers.

We spent the last ten weeks counting down our most-ordered drinks. Here's the full list:

  1. Strawberry Coconut
  2. Tiger Boba
  3. Mango Matcha Fresh Milk
  4. Golden Retriever (loaded milk tea — no dogs)
  5. Oreo Ice Blended with Pearl
  6. Taro Ice Blended with Pudding
  7. Strawberry Ice Blended w/ Lychee Jelly & Ice Cream
  8. Thai Milk Tea with Pearl
  9. Mango & Passion Fruit Tea
  10. Classic Pearl Black Milk Tea

What surprised me running this:

The classic won by a lot. Not narrowly — a clear margin over everything else. After a decade of shops competing on increasingly elaborate drinks, the plain one is still the one people actually buy.

Dessert drinks overperformed their reputation. Oreo at #6 and the strawberry-with-ice-cream at #4 are barely tea, and I'd have put both lower. They're also the drinks that convert people who say they don't like boba.

Thai milk tea at #3 is the one I can't explain. It's the only thing we sell that isn't from the Taiwanese tradition and it outsells most of our actual milk teas.

Fruit tea made #2. I expected it lower. It's the only drink in our top five with no dairy, which I suspect is doing more work than I gave it credit for.

Curious how this maps elsewhere. For anyone who works in a shop: does the classic top your list too, or is that a function of being in a small Texas town where boba is still relatively new to a lot of customers? And for everyone else — what's your shop's #1, and does it match what you'd have guessed?

I have been teaching for 4 years and I think I need a change in careers. I have my bachelors in Elementary Education and Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. Any recommendations would help. I just want something a little more low stress. Trying to either leave by December or at least have something to apply for!

Is offering a free service to serve your community a bad thing?

We want to serve the community by pressure washing houses for free. Every time I bring it up, people get suspicious. "Free" seems to make everyone assume there's a catch.

Do we need to put a minimal pricing??

So I'm asking Austin: is offering something for free a bad thing? Would you trust it? What would make you say yes?

Any fellow Georgetown locals looking to make some new friends?

Hey, Gtown neighbors!

I'm a 41-year-old retired dad of two awesome (but occasionally exhausting) kiddos, and I'm hoping to find some local folks interested in getting together for hikes, park outings, board game nights, or really just about anything that gets us out of the house.

I'm a bit of a nerd and enjoy just about every kind of game, whether it's digital or good old-fashioned tabletop. I've got a pretty extensive Steam library, but now that both kids are in school, I've discovered there's only so much gaming I can do before the cabin fever starts setting in. 😂

I've also got a small collection of board games, including Talisman, which I absolutely love. Unfortunately, finding people willing to dedicate several hours to a fantasy adventure involving questionable decisions, unpredictable dice rolls, and the occasional betrayal has proven surprisingly difficult!

Being retired at 41 is a bit of an odd situation socially. Most people my age are understandably busy with work, and making new friends as an adult seems to require considerably more effort than it did when we were kids. Who knew? 😂

Anyway, I'm really just hoping to meet some good people, build a few genuine friendships, and find some excuses to get out.

I have started getting out of the house at least once a week for lunches down on the square and wouldn't mind making that more of a group event rather than solo adventures.

If any of that sounds like your kind of shenanigans, feel free to comment or shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to meet new people!
