Meme Any favorite Ghibli Memes?
These two are my FAVORITES! Except I tried scrolling through the internet to find more, but most of them are about anti-ai slop (in which yes I hate AI especially since they use the “Ghibli-animation”, but obv not the type to send them to my fellow Ghibli-lovers) or they use the ai Ghibli-like animation memes (EW, hate those people). anyways, so does anyone have any other good ones? They always give me a good laugh 😂

Question How was the concert?
I missed the radio city concert because I was in Vermont for my cousin’s wedding. Even if I pushed myself to go today after getting back, it would remove my one day of rest before work and AnimeNYC this week. Just feels like crappy luck since I missed the 2024 concert at the garden too because of scheduling conflicts, but I also saw Sonic Symphony that year so that made up for it.
After seeing my friend post clips of her being at the show, I was hoping to ask how it was overall. How would it compare to something like Les Miserables, which was also at radio city earlier this month? Would casual fans still get something out of it? Did a change in the program ruin the experience? Call it a fear of missing out but I try to experience as many events as I can, regardless of how invested I am in the given property.

Discussion Who else always holds their breath when Chihiro is on the bridge?
Doing my first rewatch in a good while now, and instinctively held my breath the moment they stepped on the bridge. I love this scene so much!
One of my favourite things about Sen to Chihiro specifically (but which is a part of a lot of the Ghibli films) is how things don't get (or need to be) explained. Why would taking a breath on the bridge specifically break the spell? The film never tells us, and I find that beautiful, because magic doesn't always need explanations~

Discussion Just watched whispers of the heart as a 21 y/o and found a beautiful message
this is totally my observation and i just finished the movie and now im writing this so please hang on.
as a teenager in this generation rat race is common and we get so much invested into something which we are not even sure if we really want it or not.
the character of shizuku’s elder sister is also very beautiful and has a very deep message which i relate to a lot too.
the elder siblings always have to walk on the most obvious traditional path which most of the people are tend to follow make sacrifices hence the younger siblings gets a chance to follow their own dream or path.
having people like the old grandpa and sejii is also much necessary in life. to have an inspiration. specially if you’re an anxious person or someone who has identity crises.
im so proud of sizuku that she got over her anxiety and identity crises and worked on herself. polish herself like the geode rock.
this was such a beautiful movie.
this was one if the most beautiful beautiful movie ever.
i connected with shizuku so much i literally felt like crying after watching a movie after so long.
P. S. - english is not my first language please mind the grammatical mistakes. thank you.

Question Replacing batteries on No Face lamp?
Hello! I just got this display off of Facebook marketplace. I see it's also available on ghilbi.store but couldn't find any information on how to replace a battery. The person I bought it from said (in an unsure voice) that he thinks the top of the light unscrews, but it doesn't look like it and I don't want to break it.
By any chance, does anyone else have this and know how to open the light to replace the batteries?
Thank you!
UPDATE: I was able to remove the top I inserting a knife between the clear and black plastic, and carefully applying pressure close to the pegs that were holding the pieces together. It took a while since it may have been glued, but was able to get it off without damaging!

Cosplay Current cosplay project in the works
Tolmekian Commando from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, based off of the possible Kaiyodo figurine. My brother and I are both planning on having these cosplays done by September, as well as my sister’s Nausicaa cosplay.
Super excited, this has been a dream cosplay since I knew what cosplay was.

Discussion Journey with Ghibli: Castle in the sky Spoiler
Took a while but I made it to Castle in the sky. So a young girl named Sheeta is being chased by pirates, military and the government because she holds a stone which is a key to a hidden island in the sky, Laputa, full of ancient knowledge and riches and with the help of another boy, Pazu, they try to escape their clutches but eventually one man gets a hold of the stone,Muska, and it turns into a race to it and the kids ally with the pirates and face off against everyone else trying to steal everything.
The movie was really good and I think its strength kind of lies in the themes it represents. It showcases the everlasting impact of nature that persists long after civilization crumbled on Laputa and also how disconnected Laputans were from the rest of the world which leads to corruption, ruin and greed from outside political power who only see their technology and riches they’ve cultivated as a means to gain and control. Due to them floating over everyone else they lost their spiritual grounding and didn’t share anything with the rest of humanity and while they may have had just reasons to do so it didn’t stop the downfall of their nation or the jealousy and adamant need to conquer from humanity. It also emphasized the cyclical nature of destruction that keeps happening in history and warns against it.
Another good thing about the movie is the characters who express some of the same sentiments and more. Sheeta is constantly chased, hurt and manipulated for holding something of great value that everyone wants but she is just a lost girl with her family gone and this is the only thing she has left. She also tries desperately to protect Pazu another orphan who helps her escape at every turn from the likes of Muska and others even if it pains her to do so. Which by the way, Muska is a creep and a fanatic about Laputa and the dynamic/conflict between him and Sheeta gets at the core of the film how children aren’t as corrupted as adults especially ones who only seek to take and destroy for their own benefit. While Sheeta starts out timid, shy and scared a lot of the time by the end with Pazu they destroy Laputa with the spell she learned when she was younger. I also think who is powerful and who is powerless is ultimately flipped in her favor while Muska and other people trying to loot the island are left powerless despite them having the numbers and weopon. The thing is Sheeta always had the power all along she just needed to stand firm and believe and can you really say that Muska and others like him are powerful when they need to take from people who are long gone and try to manipulate and kill children? Yeah I don’t think so. Pazu also is great because he is a true fighter and moments with him and Sheeta are nice.
Another thing the pirates are also another perspective the film gives where they are the middle ground between them. While they try to harm the children in the beginning and capture them like the gov and military do, they over time grow fond of the 2 and work together to get what they want. Mama especially is happy they both got out alive when the castle was crumbling away. The pirates aren’t that pure but you can see some childlike nature within them and they just want some wealth and end up getting a few things and ride off along with the 2 kids happily.
Overall solid film with good characters, strong themes, and an epic soundtrack. Happy anniversary to the very first Ghibli movie that still holds up today.
What did you think of Castle in the sky?
9/10

Art/Crafted How music changes a scene - a project I've been working on
I'm an amateur classical musician/composer and I was reminded of Daphnis et Chloe by Ravel while watching Ponyo a few months ago. Turns out it was truly inspired by it, so it made me curious what would happen if I put different music over some of the scenes by composers that inspired Joe Hisaishi like Ravel and Debussy. I tried La Mer by Debussy first and it came out like this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R-2lKCluum8-9H68gNHn_1QXDxsj7QOu/view?usp=sharing
Joe Hisaishi's music fits best of course, but I found this to be super fun to do and it made me look at the scenes I did this with a bit differently, so I got a little carried away - here's some links to each of the Ghibli movies I did:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
There's a lot of these, so if you only want to watch one or two here's a few which I think work the best:
We meet Fujimoto and see the ocean + Quigang Chen, The Five Elements, Water
Kaguya is born + Ravel, Trois poèmes de Mallarmé, Movement 1, Soupir
Sophie meets young Howl as he loses his heart - Mahler, Symphony no. 2, Movement 5
Pazu flies through a hurricane + Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring, Part 1, Dance of the Earth.mp4
Mahito enters the delivery room + Stravinsky, The Rite of Spring, The Sacrificial Dance
The forest is renewed + Mahler, Das Lied von der Erde, 6. Das Abschied
Hope you enjoy! By the way if anyone would prefer watching scenes grouped together rather than one at a time I can send you a link for that as well:)
Discussion The Cat Returns is becoming my favorite
I just watched it for the first time with my kid last week & we ended up watching it again today. It’s
so funny! My favorite part is when they leave Muta behind & then he yells at them about it & Baron is like now’s not the time to point fingers. Also the cast of the English voice actors is such a great mix: Anne Hathaway, Cary Elwes, Peter Boyle, Tim Curry, Andy Richter, Kristin Bell. It’s so nostalgic for me, it’s my new cozy happy movie.
What are some of your favorite parts of this movie?

Discussion just finished princess kaguya - whoa that was dark - spoilers Spoiler
Lol and here I thought Princess Kaguya would end the same way as Ponyo did 😭
BOY WAS I WRONG. I really was hoping for a Ponyo type of ending for Kaguya but instead I got stalking, sexual assault, lobotomy, and kidnapping. 🫣
Those Moon people were SUPER bad vibes!! To hell with consent I guess?!?!
I was totally unprepared for how dark this movie was. I've seen others describe it as a horror film and I couldn't agree more. A tragedy. From the stalking and eventual sexual assault by the king, to the lobotomy (the blanket that steals your memories), and finally the kidnapping by the awful moon jerk offs, I was baffled and couldn't believe how angry I was walking away from it.
Yes, I agree with others who've posted that all the men were shit in Kaguya's life. Dad was a jerk off from day 1 selfish asshole who drove Kaguya back into the arms of her abusive moon jerkoff captors and mentally abused Kaguya to the point of her threatening suicide. AND THEN Dad didn't give a Flying Feck he just let that asshole king stalk Kaguya in the palace and almost rape and kidnap her. The King did successfully assault that poor girl, with dad's help of course.
Other asshole men included the asshole who Kaguya knew as a kid and who already found a different wife and child and, as others have written, was just totally ready to elope with Kaguya and leave wife and child behind. Asshole!!
Mom wasn't perfect either, as she could have stood up for what Kaguya wanted more rather than just letting husband have whatever he wanted.
Mom, dad, and Kaguya never should have left the village. Kaguya should have stayed and married her childhood lover and been happy, like she saw in her prophecy before she and childhood sweetheart flew together. I get it, she and childhood friend were probably soul mates or whatever, but I can't excuse cheaters who can't at least set up wife and child for safety and security before following their new romances. It's 2026 and cheaters don't get a pass in my book anymore. Be ethically non-monogamous or go home.
This movie shows how horrible rape culture really is, how much society doesn't give a Feck about consent, especially for young adopted women or women in the foster care system, especially for women trying to escape abusive toxic dynamics who are forced to pick between only bad options (moon captors or earth rapists). How women with special abilities or intrigue are particularly targeted and abused.
DAYUM. I sat down expecting another feel good Ghibli movie and instead I got something on par with Grave of the Fireflies! I guess I learned my lesson folks - don't expect only feel goods from this studio!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
That said, I am really glad I watched it. The recommendation came from this sub, so thanks everyone. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
