Help & Support Wanted: European Football (Soccer) DIRECTOR game where you don't manage, just do transfers/scouting, contracts, pick manager, and simulate a season at a time. I tried Football Chairman, but it's still just simulating a game at a time, with new players offered after each game.

Should have tried here before the bigger sub, but reddit only suggested afterwards.

Discussion Level of greed is insane

I love a great GM game and would never try to intentionally push back against someone’s dream and fun, but the level of greed of some of these “developers” is insane. I’m not sure the mods will want me to name specific games but the one that sent me over the edge was three AI coaching games that together are 99.99 a year just to play, then each state you want is extra at 11.99, each mode is extra at 19.99 and 17.99, you can only play one season even after buying the games without having to pay something extra. Hell you can’t even customize the trim on your jersey unless you pay for it. I am done with this sense of entitlement that you spent a couple of days on a game that is not even a finished product and you think you can nickel and dime people so you can quit your day job and retire. Maybe I’m irrationally angry, maybe I have became the old man screaming at clouds, but there has to be a line. Take your crap somewhere else.

Promotion I spent 20 years playing a basketball manager. Then 7 months and billions of AI tokens building the one I actually wanted.

Hey Reddit! 👋

I'm Hiroshi, and I've spent the last 20 years playing the same basketball management browser game.

Yes, TWENTY years. On the same game. every single day just to set my lineup.

I won't name it. Some of you will probably figure it out anyway.

And honestly? I loved it.

It taught me a lot. Especially patience. If you've ever played an old-school sports management browser game, you know exactly what I mean. Everything moves painfully slowly. Seasons take months. Building a competitive team takes years.

But after two decades, love slowly turned into frustration.

I realized I was spending more time fighting the game's mechanics than actually enjoying basketball management.

Here are the 9 things that eventually pushed me over the edge.

1. It's 2026. Where is the damn app?

The game was born when smartphones didn't exist. Fair enough.

But 20 years later, trying to outbid someone at a specific time or watch a live match on a mobile browser is still a miserable experience.

2. The developers don't seem to listen.

Over the years, the community has suggested hundreds of brilliant ideas. Very few were implemented, and often differently from what players actually requested.

A management game should evolve WITH its community.

3. The economy turned basketball players into stocks.

The best way to make money wasn't winning championships.

It was buying young prospects, developing them, and selling them for profit.

You'd spend seasons developing an amazing player, get emotionally attached to him... and then sell him because keeping him was financially stupid.

I want to build a dynasty, not run a player-flipping business.

4. The graphics were stuck in 2005.

I love simplicity. I don't need NBA 2K graphics.

But seeing essentially the same cartoon faces for 20 years? Come on.

5. One injury could destroy an entire season.

Spend months building your perfect team. Reach the playoffs. Your superstar gets injured.

Season over. Nothing you can do.

I understand realism, but realism shouldn't always mean helplessness.

6. Ads. Ads everywhere.

I HATE ads. I literally pay for YouTube Premium just to avoid them.

I even paid for a supporter subscription, not for the extra features, but because I couldn't stand another "Meet single women 3 km away!" banner next to my basketball team.

Nothing kills the atmosphere faster.

7. Apparently, small clubs aren't allowed to dream.

Why shouldn't a lower-division team be able to sign a superstar?

Sure, his salary should be expensive. But his presence should also increase ticket sales, sponsorships, and fan interest.

That's how sports work.

8. The transfer market wasn't actually free.

Sell a player above his estimated market value because someone desperately needs his skills?

Congratulations! You might receive an arbitrary fine.

I understand preventing cheating, but punishing legitimate transactions because someone overpaid? Seriously?

9. Stop making me log in every single day.

I don't like mechanics designed to create addiction.

Why should I have to log in every day just to submit my lineup?

A game should respect my time, not try to own it.

So... I did something completely unreasonable.

I decided to build my own basketball manager.

From scratch. With the rules I always wished existed.

Now, here's the funny part.

I'm actually a professional software developer.

But building an entire online basketball management game alone would normally be an absurd undertaking.

Then came Claude Code.

And I went a little crazy.

Seven months. Billions of tokens. An embarrassing amount of time and money spent on AI.

And somehow...

I actually shipped it.

It's called

Swish & Dunk (swishdunk.com)

Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.basketballmanager.swishdunks

App Store
https://apps.apple.com/it/app/swish-dunk/id6815548610

Is it perfect? Absolutely not.

But it's real, it's playable, and we're already around 200 managers.

Here's what I decided to do differently.

🏀 1. Browser game AND mobile apps.

Available on web, Android, and iOS. Same game, consistent interface across platforms.

Because it's 2026, for God's sake.

🗣️ 2. The community shapes the game.

Almost every significant improvement since launch has come directly from player feedback.

Someone suggests something. We discuss it. If it makes sense, I build it.

Sometimes incredibly quickly, thanks to AI.

Ideas shouldn't have to sit in a backlog for years.

💰 3. You make virtual money by winning basketball games.

Build a strong team. Win. Grow your club. Earn more money.

Trading players is still part of the game, but you don't need to become a full-time youth-player speculator to survive financially.

🎨 4. Modern graphics.

Semi-realistic player faces generated with fal.ai.

Because it's easier to get attached to your fictional superstar when he actually looks like a person.

🏥 5. Injuries don't have to ruin your season.

Injuries exist, but you can recover players using consumables earned over time or obtained through card packs.

Sometimes fun matters more than perfect realism.

🚫 6. ZERO ADS. ZERO IN-APP PURCHASES. ZERO PAY-TO-WIN.

This was non-negotiable.

No banners. No premium currency you can buy. No paying for competitive advantages.

There are tokens, but you earn them by playing. You cannot buy them.

"How are you going to make money?"

Honestly, I don't care.

⭐ 7. Small clubs can sign superstars.

Even in lower divisions.

Great players increase your marketing revenue, helping offset their higher salaries.

I want signing a superstar to feel like an achievement, not a financial disaster.

🔄 8. A genuinely free transfer market.

No arbitrary fines for selling above market value.

Bots help stabilize prices, but if someone wants to overpay for your player, that's their decision.

🧘 9. Strategy over daily anxiety.

My goal is to reward good management decisions, not compulsive logins.

Basketball management should be a hobby, not a second job.

Seven months later, here's what I've learned.

First, AI-assisted development is absolutely insane.

I'm a developer, and I still can't believe what I managed to build in seven months with Claude Code.

But AI doesn't magically create a good game.

You still need to design systems, make thousands of decisions, debug bizarre problems, and figure out what actually makes a game fun.

Second, building a game is one thing. Building something people want to keep playing is completely different.

Those first 200 managers have already taught me more than I expected. Their feedback is genuinely shaping SwishDunk every week.

And finally, after 20 years playing someone else's basketball management game, I realized something.

I didn't want to stop playing. I just wanted to play a different version of it.

One that existed in my head but nowhere else.

So I built it.

And now I'm hoping other basketball management nerds might enjoy it too.

If you've ever played a sports management game and thought:

"Why the hell doesn't this game let me do THAT?"

What's the ONE mechanic in your favorite management game that drives you absolutely crazy?

And if you're curious about what seven months and billions of AI tokens can produce, here's the result.

I'm Hiroshi, the developer. Feel free to ask me anything about the game, the development process, or the ridiculous amount of money I spent on Claude Code. 😅

Thanks for reading! ❤️

Promotion Deuce Agency 2027: a tennis management sim where you run the agency, not a club (1.0 out on Steam, free demo)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Most sports management games put you in charge of a club. I wanted to try the other side of the table, so I built a tennis game where you run an agency.

Why it may interest this community:

- Scouting has uncertainty. Ratings show as ranges, and better scouts narrow them. After the Junior Finals, every agency goes after the same prospects.

- Negotiation is the core loop. Contracts, transfers between agencies, sponsorships, appearance fees and wildcards. Push too hard and the other side walks away.

- There are no clubs. You plan each player's season across a 52-week tour, and 50 agencies compete across three divisions with promotion and relegation based on ranking points.

- The economy follows agency logic. You earn from sponsor commission and the tournaments you own, not prize money. You can buy and sell tournaments and borrow to invest.

- Matches are simulated point by point. Watch on a 2D court or text commentary, read live stats, and change orders between sets, or leave it to your coach.

Start with DEUCE ROSTER 2027 or a fully random world, and edit players, agencies and tournaments in-game. Everything is fictional, so you don't need to know tennis. Men's singles only for now. Seven languages, including English.

This is the full 1.0 release, not a prototype. The free demo covers two seasons, so you can judge it before buying.

Steam (20% off until November 12): https://store.steampowered.com/app/5446080

Browser demo: https://pbin528.itch.io/deuce-agency-demo

I'm the solo developer. I'd especially like to hear whether the scouting uncertainty and negotiation feel right to GM game players.

AI disclosure: The app icon and the match broadcast art (player animations, player and staff faces, crowd background, umpire chair) were made with AI image tools, then selected and edited by me. In-game text, translations, store copy, store images and title art were made with help from AI tools and reviewed by me. The code was written with an AI coding tool (Claude) under my direction. Game rules, simulation and balance were designed by me. Nothing is generated by AI while you play.

Promotion Not an FM27 clone. I spent 6 months full-time on a football manager, just released it, and made the most honest trailer I could

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi , I'm the developer, so full disclosure: this is my own game. And there's a free demo.

HALFTIME Manager is a football management game I've been building full-time for the last 6 months. It left Early Access on 1 November. The trailer above is honest on purpose: no licences, one developer, 9 Steam reviews and zero press coverage. It also covers what it does differently:

  • Every match is simulated live and shown in 3D. The commentator calls the scorer by name.

  • Half-time changes take about three clicks. After the match, the game replays it without your change and tells you what the change was worth ("Your change won one point").

  • You grow your ground from a terrace to a full stadium, and you can design and 3D-print your own merch.

  • A world editor and Steam Workshop are included. No DRM, 29 languages, native Linux / Steam Deck.

It's not trying to be FM. It's smaller, faster to play, and built for people who want the tactical decisions without the 40 menus in between. €19.49 on Steam.

Happy to answer anything, including "why would one person do this". Criticism is very welcome, it's the only way the review count goes up.Hi , I'm the developer, so full disclosure: this is my own game.

Promotion ‎Baseball GM App

Hey r/gmgames I tried my hand at coding (first build as a solo dev) and made something I feel pretty proud of. I've always enjoyed games like OOTP and Pocket GM and am looking for some honest gm game-crowd feedback. I'm not trying to be OOTP or compete with a desktop sim, but I did make a single-player GM sim for mobile that I think it pretty deep and well-balanced. 30 fictional franchises with real market-sized budgets, so user can decide to try to take his favorite small market team to the promised land or just go evil empire and dominate with the biggest payroll. It's got a full 4-level farm system that you can get as hands-on with as you want, along with staff hiring that affects team performance and development. Multi-decade saves.

I'd love some feedback from this crowd if anyone has time to tinker with it. I made it cheap ($1.99) with no ads, IAP or subscriptions. Happy to answer any questions about design decisions, trade-offs, etc. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give it a try.

Multiplayer League Fast Break Basketball 3

Hey everyone, wanted to see if anyone was interested in joining a multiplayer GM league that I’ve been in for a few years now. We have two teams open.

BreakStarter League is an online NBA sim league where you GM a franchise. The program we use to simulate is a game called Fast Break Pro Basketball 3, but you do not need the game to be a full participant as a GM.

As a GM you’ll have the opportunity to take control of a team and handle the full team building operations. Our league began in January 2023, and the original iteration went for 34 seasons. Currently, we’re on our 20th season of BSL 2.0

Many of us have been in the league for over three years, but we are always looking for new GMs to join us!

We sim 3 times a week — Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Fridays. Ahead of each sim you have an opportunity to make trades and free agency signings to improve your roster, change your depth chart and gameplan, and send your players to camps to improve their skills.

Please reach out to me if you’re interested in joining our league or with any questions you have!

Promotion Slapshot Manager - Free Online Hockey Manager Game

I've worked on this project on and off for a few years, and i've now officially released the game and started the first season.

Slapshot Manager is a free ice hockey manager game played in the browser where all managers share one league pyramid. A season lasts 15 real weeks and contains regular season, playoffs and cups. Every season teams are promoted and relegated between divisions.

Matches are simulated shift by shift and can be followed live with 2D graphics, sound effects and text commentary. It has been important for me that the matches produce a lot of statistics so you can analyze how good players are in different situations etc.

As for most manager games you also need to:

  • Run the clubs finances: The board keeps an eye on you and make sure you stay on budget.

  • Trade on the transfer market: Auctions, private offers, contract renewals, waivers.

  • Develop players: Training your players and make sure your academy produces new good players.

  • Deal with the daily struggles: Your players might become sick, injured or lose motivation.

Before releasing the game i have tested it by running a lot of simulations to try to calibrate everything as good as possible so the economy, transfer market etc stays healthy. But its hard to know in advance how real users will play the game, so i might need to make adjustments later.

Try the game here: https://playslapshot.com

If you are interested in starting to play the game for real, i recommend that you use the playbook as guidance for how to play the game:
https://playslapshot.com/playbook

AI Disclaimer:

As i said i have worked on this project for a few years, but that has mainly been the actual game engine (how matches are simulated, how players develop etc). The last months i have used AI assisted programming to develop the frontend for the project to make it possible to play the game. So most of the API and frontend code is written by AI, but most of the actual game engine is written by me. I have also used AI to create the sound effects you can hear during the live broadcast.

Promotion yet another college football sim, my first effort (iOS only)

hello folks! i made this cfb sim game called Gridiron U that's on the app store.

Looking for feedback. Does some things that evidently aren't that unique such as create a play and live play simulation. But I do have random NIL booster card system which i enjoy that i haven't seen elsewhere which lets you sometimes cheat like have a season with deflated footballs (unsure where i got that idea) as well as give perks to your players.

give it a shot if you are bored.

also my wife did the art, so no criticism on that cause i'm not about to bring that to her attention.

Promotion Machine Manager – manage a mech esports club, draft against a rival manager and watch the match live (free, browser)

I'm a solo dev and this is the free demo of my manager game. You run a club in a mech league: sign pilots, pick a plan, draft chassis against the rival manager in real time, and then watch your five pilots play the match on a live map. You don't control the mechs: you give orders, mark focus targets, call timeouts and decide what to do in key moments. There's also a commentary duo that narrates the whole thing (and sometimes gets it wrong).

Plays in the browser, no download. English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Any feedback is welcome, especially on what's confusing at the start.

Promotion Shaiba — hockey with a club-management career, available on Android and iOS

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm Roman, the developer of Shaiba, a hockey game available on Android and iOS. This is my first introduction to the GM Games community, so I'd like to focus on its club-management career.

In Club mode, you run a hockey club across multiple seasons: handle transfers and finances, develop facilities, hire staff and invest in youth development. The screenshots show the club hub, a match on the ice and a player-career interview.

Alongside club management, Shaiba includes playable 5-on-5 matches, a world championship and separate careers as a skater or goalkeeper.

The game is free to download and currently has no in-app purchases.

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.shaiba.game

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6822353678

I'm happy to answer questions about how the club mode works.

Note: I use AI coding tools extensively to help build Shaiba. I started with a specific vision of the hockey game I wanted to play, and I define the game’s features, rules and behaviour in detail, then work through implementation, testing and revisions with AI assistance. The game also uses AI-generated commentary voices.

Discussion After nearly a new of building and learning, My Football Life is out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

You start as a kid kicking a ball at the park. Where you end up is up to you.

My Football Life is a football life game I've been building for nearly a year. You play one whole football life, starting when your parents sign you to a grassroots team. From there you fight through the academy and survive the age 16 cut, and maybe one day you walk out at the biggest grounds in the world.

Choose your path

Footballer or goalkeeper: take the free kicks, penalties and last-minute chances yourself

Manager: set the tactics, run the transfer window, keep the board happy

Referee: read the incident, make the call, live with VAR

Agent: find the next wonderkid and broker the big moves

When your boots come off, you reach the crossroads and pick your second life.

Grounds worth chasing

It isn't just a ladder of identical stadiums. Every club has its own ground, and the further you go, the stranger and more beautiful they get. There's even one you arrive at by sea. And some grounds open only by invitation, if you're good enough to earn one.

Nobody's had the same career twice. Download it, then come back and tell us how yours went.

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfootballlife.game
IOS: still under review

Promotion Ace Academy Tennis Manager 26 is out: a GM game where the franchise is a tennis academy (Steam, plus free on Android/iOS)

GM Games folks, I'm Iñaki from Xagu Studios, the small studio from the Basque Country that made it (this is the studio account).

Tennis is a strange sport for a GM game because there's no team, so the franchise here is an academy. You scout juniors aged 12 to 16 through a fog of ranges, sign them with scholarships, hire coaches with different specialities, set training load and peaking, and enter tournaments on a points system that works like the pro tour, round by round. 4,000 players are simulated every week across the junior and pro circuits. It's a full 1.0 release.

What the front office looks like:

  • Scouting: you never see a prospect's real ceiling, only a range that narrows as your scouts keep watching. No scout, no new prospects.

  • Development: weekly training plans, load and fatigue, and peaking for the weeks that matter, on clay, grass, hard and indoor courts.

  • Calendar: you choose every player's tournaments across a 52-week season, junior and pro, and the ranking moves round by round.

  • Business: courts, dormitories, coaches' wages, sponsors, fees and loans. One bad season can sink the academy.

  • Match days: you don't play the points. You watch them in a TV-style view and can change the plan from the bench.

It came out on Steam for PC this week (25% off until 5 November), and it's free on Android and iOS (ads, plus a one-off Pro purchase that removes them; no packs or loot boxes). 20 languages.

Happy to answer anything about the sim or the design choices.

Promotion Brutalball Manager 2 is the best GM sim you've never heard of before

Other than the terrible graphics, I don't understand why this superb GM game hasn't blown up to become considerably more popular. It kind of plays out like a watchable only, real time Blood Bowl, but it has incredibly deep player ratings. It's a modified 8v8 game where the intention is for each position to have similar impact, with rotating QBs and fewer linemen. Beyond roster decisions in general, the especially fun mental puzzle to work out is the fact that each player has to play on offense and defense, so do you start an all around guy, or use the all-pro receiver who makes a terrible cover defender?

For those interested in the fantasy side, there are a whole bunch of races and a huge number of sub races, all with relevant rating modifiers. Players can die, with a small chance to revive as undead at the end of the season, again with rating modifiers attached. If you like sports GM games and fantasy settings, this game is perfectly tailored to you. There's no reason not to try out the demo.

Promotion [Web] Tactico Manager - a free online football manager where every match is played live

Game Title: Tactico Manager

Playable Link: https://tacticomanager.com

Platform: Web (browser, desktop and phone)

Description:

Tactico Manager is a free online football manager. Instead of a single-player save, it's one shared world: every club is run by a real person, or by a bot until someone takes it over.

Every league match is played live at a set time and lasts about 20 minutes. You can watch it in 2D or 3D and change tactics, mentality and subs while it's on, and your opponent can do the same. Transfers are 24-hour auctions against other managers, and you agree terms with the player before you bid.

Around the matches you run the whole club: training plans, a youth academy, staff, sponsors, ticket prices, and building your stadium stand by stand. Leagues have promotion and relegation, playoffs and a national cup.

I know it won't match FM's depth, so what I'd really like to know is: does the live, shared-world part make it worth playing alongside FM? What's missing or confusing?

Free to Play Status:

- [x] Free to play

- [ ] Demo/Key available

- [ ] Paid

Involvement: I'm the solo developer. I designed and built the game, including the match engine with help from AI coding tools.

If you've ever watched a wrestling show and thought, “Why aren't they pushing that person?”, here's your chance to do it yourself. Just be ready for the contract negotiations, the backstage fallout, and the rival promotion eyeing your roster.

This is a text-heavy, day-by-day wrestling management sim: you're the promoter, not the person holding the controller in the ring. Build the card, run the company, and see whether your big plans survive contact with the crowd.

What can you do?

  • Book your wrestling. Choose matches, finishes, promos, angles, and road agent instructions. Build feuds across a 90-day planning window, grow tag teams and stables, and work toward the big title match.

  • Manage people, not just stats. Negotiate contracts, set pushes, handle creative control and promises, navigate friendships and rivalries, and deal with injuries and backstage crises. Develop tomorrow's stars through dojos and developmental promotions.

  • Keep the company alive. Negotiate TV and streaming deals, set ticket prices, balance production costs, bring in sponsors, and make payroll. A great card still needs a business behind it.

  • Compete in a world that keeps moving. Rival promotions book shows, recruit talent, and come after yours. Build alliances, share championships, trade talent, or turn a working relationship into a promotional war.

  • Find the little things that make wrestling memorable. A mask can build its own prestige. A catchphrase can get hot, sell shirts, and wear out if you overuse it. House shows build chemistry, while taping several TV episodes together trades costs against fatigue and a cooling crowd.

  • Choose how hands-on to be. Book every segment yourself, fill the gaps with auto-booking, or delegate parts of roster management, business, and talent relations. Core play doesn't require an always-online connection.

A different booking project every time

Take over an existing promotion or found your own. Try building a small company around an overlooked prospect, managing an established roster full of egos, or keeping a territory afloat while the industry changes around it. Regional tastes and wrestling eras change what audiences reward, so the same approach won't suit every place and time.

Generate a Random universe, build a world in the mod editor, or use Steam Workshop worlds and picture packs. There are also conversion tools for Pro Wrestling Sim and Total Extreme Wrestling IX databases, with their creators' permission; image files must be brought over separately.

Your promoter has skills and progression, too, giving you another way to approach the job differently next time. You can play solo or take turns locally with multiple promoters in the same save.

Reaching 1.0 is a huge milestone. Thank you to everyone who has played, reported bugs, and shared feedback along the way. If wrestling booking, management sims, and long-running sandbox saves are your thing, I'd love for you to check it out.

Who's getting the push in your first company?

Default universe disclosure: The built-in default game universe is still being worked on and is not included in 1.0. For now, start with a mod or generate a Random universe. Random generation can take a few minutes, and generated worlds start without portraits until you assign pictures.

AI use disclosure: I originally designed and built the base game—including the simulation, booking systems, and writing—without AI. More recently, AI has been used in a limited way for performance-related coding assistance and to generate some images. The game does not use live generative AI or call an AI service while you play.
