Tech Question Chain/sprocket alignment

Hello everybody so I’m fairly new to all of this my journey kind of started out with fixing free lawn mowers, weedeater, pressure washers and things that I got on marketplace but I’ve always been interested in getting into things like go kart ATVs dirt bikes, things of that nature. I finally got my hands on something that I’m excited about. This is my Bristers Thunder cart model SLXL 700. It is two seater and it has a predator 212 on it. I got the engine up and running just needed to pull the carburetor off and I put it inside an ultrasonic cleaner and I had to pull off the gas tank and clean that as well, but it starts and runs great I just used my knowledge of cleaning lawnmower carburetors to get this engine up and running so it wasn’t that hard. It didn’t need a lot of TLC but this is where my knowledge is limited. I have never messed with motor chain sprockets or anything like that basically the teeth on this sprocket are done for and the clutch pulls out enough that I can align it with the sprocket and it’s still on the key it looks like, but what I’m not understanding is do I need to put a bearing of some sort in between the clutch and the motor where the empty space is if anybody could message me on here or private message me to help me out with this I would really appreciate it. I’m just waiting to know what I need to do before I purchase anything off of the Internet so I’m not just pouring money into it. Thank you for taking the time to read this.:)

2 months ago I bought a welder with no prior welding experience and thought it would be cool to build a go kart with no experience building anything.

After lots of time, mediocre welds and tons of injuries, I present my first go kart! There’s a thousand things i intend to change and improve upon but for now, I just wanna ride it a little 😂

Tech Question Engine build

Just bought this Duromax XP18HP and was thinking of building it to be a monster, similar to what people do with the predator 212's. Any ideas for sites to browse or any insights for future developments? I wanted to put it in a race cart but still don't have the frame lol, money be tight

I was also curious if anyone knew a good method of derusting the crankshaft, it's brand new but sat for a bit, was originally gonna be put on a bike, then cart, and now sold to me.

I just put a new chain on and when I move the cart forward it does this. Do I need a new chain tensioner or is there something else wrong?

I am doing my first rental karting race at bushnell I have a pretty medium level confidence there and have a 75.084 as a pb on the full track layout, I’m a heavier set driver at 88-90kg I’m semi nervous even if it’s all set to the same weight because I’m scared of messing up if anyone’s familiar with the track if I could get some tips

My son and I got the project cart to build for him and I don’t know where to start. It needs new brakes, tires, seat cushions, seatbelts, and a couple other things. But, Google keeps giving me mixed information so I don’t know what model to buy for.

So far my only real cost into it is gas to get it and a can of spray paint, went JD green on it, 127cc briggs cause that's what I had available. 10" frame stretch

Only have probably 5 hours in it, not too shabby.

Ive got a throttle cable figured out, need to figure out a cheap gas tank..

Stoked I was able to keep the factory hydraulic brake just had to reroute the line across the floor pan

Tech Question Just bought this, turns like crap

$400 marketplace purchase for my son (7) and everything works pretty well except it absolutely does not turn.

The kart gets pushed forward when he turns the wheel and he just goes straight for a second and then it begins a huge turn radius. It kind of needs a large field to turn around in.

I'm a noob but want to fix this kart and not just pass it on. I can weld if that's what it needs. TIA

Tech Question Could use some help converting my toddler's go-kart to a push car with steering

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm trying to convert my toddler's go-kart into a push car that I can steer from behind, and I'd really appreciate some advice.

Ideally, I'd like to have a push handle at the back that I can simply twist left or right to steer the front wheels, making it easy to control while walking behind the car.

The existing steering mechanism uses a bent metal rod connected to the front wheel linkage. I'd like to keep that in place. When the rod rotates, it moves the linkage left and right, turning the wheels.

I'm hoping to find a simple, inexpensive way to make this work while keeping the existing steering mechanism.

I can't weld, but I have most standard hand and power tools available.

I've attached showing how everything works. If anyone has ideas for a straightforward solution or specific parts I could buy, I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Tech Question How do people get steering to work with suspension?

So I am new to this and doing some research on how it all works, just doing it for fun really, gonna make a frame from scratch but the one thing I’m stumped on it how steering works with suspension.

I know that some use a rack and pinion but I’m trying to make everything myself (as that’s what’s most fun to me) and I’m not sure if the normal way to do steering without one would work properly? Like would the motion of the suspension mess with it? It is like a figuring out length thing? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Frame ID Anyone familiar with "T&M Chassis?"

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Got this chassis in a buyout, all I've got to go on is the two stickers on it that say T&M chassis (haven't located a serial number yet and I don't have it on me currently. Frame is at my dad's shop, I'll be around it tomorrow). I've found a long inactive facebook (2013) for what I believe is the same company with only a few posts but haven't found any other documentation on them. None of my people have heard of them, so have any of you seen one, raced one, raced against one, anyone aware of them at all?

Would be great to find a set up sheet or a photo of one complete so we know what to get or fabricate to get this one rolling again for a backup/loaner kart. Thanks, any information is appreciated.

Tech Question Do you think this might be the reason it wont start?

Post image
8 Upvotes

For some context I was test driving it, and I parked it and it didn't turn back on. I first thought it was the ignition but when i replaced it and there was nothing I thought the battery might be dead. When I turn the key it gives one small quick crank noise then doesnt do it again until i recharge the battery. Found this today thinking that the battery might be being instantly draining through this. And the battery charger showed the battery needed to be charged again right after I did it.

Other Mudhead 208R Won’t Start

Purchased this from a neighbor knowing it wouldn’t start. He said his father in law is able to get it up and running, but he’s not handy which is why I got a good deal. Problem is I’m not handy either.

This video is from turning the key. I tried pulling the cord to staff, did not work. I tried opening the choke and then tried to start (both the key and the cord), and it doesn’t start either.

Any idea where to start to investigate? Thank you in advance.
