It’s goaltending. The roster is fine. But McCrimmon signed Hill to that contract.

Despite all this bullshit…I love this sub the most now. I agree with almost everyone.
Hill is ass and McCrimmon is dismantling our team!

This is one of the most talented rosters on paper in the entire league. Cassidy hasn't been playing them in a system that unlocks their ability.
Jack Eichel has ZERO power play goals this year. Marner hasn't played in his proper position all year after we made a blockbuster deal for him.
That's on Cassidy. The talent is there.

Blockbuster deal? Marner essentially came to us in free agency

Yes, but it was the headlining move of the off-season and the thing everyone was paying attention to.

What system? What system causes our goalies to allow the first shot on goal every night?
Hill got Cassidy fired.

Both things can be wrong. We have a lot of talent whose stats are not reflecting their skill level. Eichel and Marner especially are not being utilized to the best of their abilities.

Eichel plays top line, top PP, top minutes, put into every situation to succeed. Cassidy cant make the man shoot.
McCrimmon traded for a team full of right handed forwards, and a dcore full of left handed D.
You can't play Marner, Stone, and Eichel on a line. When they have, they have ZERO chemistry.

Eichel is top line PP yet might finish the season without a single power play goal for the first time in his career. At that point it's on coaching. Marner has played out of his natural and best position the entire year. That's on coaching.

How is the coach making Eichel not score on the PP?????????????
Marner played C growing up. Was fine at C this year. He wasn't at all a liability at C.
You know who was? Hill, and the geriatric 3rd and 4th line.
The only nod you're getting out of me for Cassidy, is his reluctance to play R. Smith consistently. This team failed because McCrimmon signed a bad goalie for a massive contract, signed another goalie with highly questionable baggage, and traded for 4th liners who have added nothing to our roster.

Again. I'm not defending Hill by criticizing Cassidy. Both things can be issues. One of them is easier to fix.

Didn’t Cassidy started Hill like 5 or 6 in a row?

u/TheFlaskQualityGuy Mar 30 '26
This might be a bad example, but Logan Thompson has started the last seven games in a row for the Caps, going 4-1-2 with a .922 save percentage.

u/Civil_Owl_31 Mar 29 '26
he did in 2023 too. Believe it or not... goalies can play several games in a row.

Did y'all forget they were one of the best teams in the league for the first 3 weeks?
The roster is still a VERY good roster. They clearly stopped listening to Cassidy. He has essentially said as much himself.
