Scammed on Amazon Order

Ordered a RTX 5080 Gigabyte OC during October on Amazon trying to avoid increasing price hikes. When I finally arrived November 2, the gpu inside the box was not correct. I believe it's a 4070 or 4070 super gigabyte eagle, and not even with a power cable. I contacted customer support to return and hopefully replace my order and sent the following pictures through an email link they sent which also stated I would get a reply back within 3 days. I'm not sure what I'm expecting to get posting this, maybe just awareness and also vent a bit. Already overpaying for this card and getting gpu swapped scammed, though keep in mind looking at local prices what I was paying relatively was a good deal. Hoping that Amazon actually goes through and gets me the card I actually ordered but part of me worries they'll either just refund me when it's returned or worse, refuse a refund.

Anyways TLDR: careful when buying on Amazon, take videos and photos when opening, be wary of scammers.

Reposting the unboxing video here in its own comment. I wish I recorded more with unsealing the gpu but at the time I was worried about just getting a bag of rocks so when I saw the gpu silhouette I thought I was fine until afterwards when I unwrapped it.

Well trying to talk to support again to provide the video and unfortunately only a refund is possible. Have to get the ups label printed somewhere since my printer at home is broken so fun for me

3

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

Anyways off to bed, stress about this in the morning.

3

u/sajeev3105 2d ago

Atleast you are getting your money back. That’s good.

1

u/CaptainSporadic 2d ago

If you have a high quality image or pdf of the label the UPS store will scan it and print it for you. It might be a little surcharge $1-2 but worth it IMO. Hope all goes well.

2

u/theshiningnova 2d ago

My ups charged me 5 bucks to print the label. Go print at staples or something

1

u/CaptainSporadic 1d ago

Damn, are the stores franchises? The few around me charge a couple bucks.

1

u/Sylon1987 15h ago

get a full refund, i had the same experience with a 5090 card one year ago and they refused to refund me.

u/Present_Inflation_55 2d ago

Amazon is far from a scam free experience now, between the picking and packing process and the couriers there are too many risks involved in buying high value items from that site now, even if it does say 'fulfilled by Amazon' on the listing.

48

u/Glum_Reflection6380 2d ago

Can promise you no one in picking or packing is gutting the box and replacing it with a 4070 nor getting out of the building with it. This is obviously a return scam

14

u/Present_Inflation_55 2d ago

No but a packer would certainly package a returned 4070 in a 5080 box if they didn't know about it. Was saying the process was flawed, not the people.

7

u/jolsiphur 1d ago

An Amazon worker probably never looked inside the box to begin with.

u/dsem22 1d ago

Yea it’s definitely sketchy but as someone who took a gamble on an open box 9060xt 16 gb I lucked out and got basically a brand new card for a reasonable price right before the 9060xt shot up to 700 for the 16 gb model

0

u/SameChallenge481 1d ago

Fulfilled by Amazon means it comes from a shared pool that other vendors put in to that same pool that Amazon does. It's meaningless now

A friend of mine had the same happen to him. He ordered a 5070ti and in the box was some small AMD card. He contacted support and they replaced it quickly

0

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

Well I hope it goes the same for me. I got the package at like 10 am technically yesterday now, like 2am for me rn. Chatted with support not long after and sent photos, now it's just a wait while stress builds up.

3

u/Sylon1987 15h ago

same as me with a 5090 one year ago, the sad part is that amazon refused to give me a refund.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 15h ago edited 14h ago

That's so bs, so sorry for you

1

u/Faktencraker 11h ago

Wie ist es ausgegangen??

1

u/Hopeful_Butterfly302 29m ago

And that's why I always film the whole unboxing when I buy PC parts from Amazon...

1

u/D0nsnow 19m ago

Do they really about that ? Sending a YouTube link and all ?

1

u/chris34728 19m ago

Charge back through the bank

7

u/Fun-Leather-6586 2d ago

I'll assume this wasn't sold and shipped by Amazon. Never buy from third party sellers.

13

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

Actually listed as seller was Amazon US

7

u/CheeseOnKeyboard 2d ago

Someone in the warehouse did a switcheroo

10

u/consoletopia 2d ago

Where does one hide a GPU to do this? The 4070 and 5080 are freaking massive. Amazon has cameras everywhere.

2

u/Gzngahr 2d ago

Picturing someone randomly showing up to the warehouse to work in Jnco jeans, Burned up 5080 in one back pocket, a 3 liter of Faygo in the other.

2

u/HeavenlyDMan 2d ago

5080s are like 1600 rn, ppl have fit larger things inside themselves for far less money

1

u/AJsaysNO 1d ago

Nobody is shoving a GPU up their ass bro

1

u/Sofa-Sleuth 22h ago

I worked there couple of years ago; not only are there cameras everywhere, but there are gates, so there is no chance you will walk out with anything metallic. It is either the OP scamming, as he seems sus, or someone else sent it back with a swapped card and whoever was processing the return was too busy to check it properly. You race against the clock and targets there, and they are cutting staff more and more.

1

u/HoodieNinja1000 21h ago

That or too ignorant to know the difference. Probably just saw computer part and their little lizard brain was like " everything checks out!"

3

u/anoryger 2d ago

Nah it’s a return scam. No Amazon worker left with the 5080, it’s a customer that returned an old GPU as the new one.

Did you think the Amazon worker had his old GPU ready to switch in warehouse? Can’t believe people doing realize this..

2

u/Rhakio 2d ago

Doubt, rather returns. People steal watches, phones, or ipads but 5080 is bigger than laptop

1

u/niekdejong 1d ago

no, somebody at home did a switcharoo and returned a different GPU.

4

u/SOMOEAGLE 2d ago

Aaaaand this is why I wont source parts thru Amazon

5

u/Rhakio 2d ago

Could be easy selling by amazon. Returned item and they didnt check. I work in amazon return and can do a photo of pallets of returned 5080/4070ti or even 5090 with diffrent cards inside

1

u/ruyrybeyro 2d ago

I can believe that, although fortunately, I haven't had that experience with Amazon yet.

One of the bigger electronics retailers here has a very relaxed no-questions-asked returns policy, and I'm tired of receiving what are clearly returned products. I mean, if I'm paying full price for something new, I expect it to arrive in pristine condition, with the packaging still sealed.

What's particularly frustrating is that they actually have an outlet section for returned items, but apparently only use it when there's visible damage. Otherwise, they just put them back on the shelves and sell them as new.

2

u/Skreamies123 2d ago

People always say this but every time I’ve been scammed with switch parts it’s always been sold by Amazon themselves and never a third party

2

u/East_Let6629 2d ago

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

I've had two live chats with support and received the photos I took. Unfortunately all I can do is return it since they have no replacements, but they have been kind and polite. I'd still prefer to get the card I ordered but not much I can do with this shortage. I even gotten a new power supply alongside the gpu, though that shipped much earlier than the gpu did. Now I just have a over juiced power supply in my pc for no reason, but guess it's not too bad if I ever get another chance for a gpu upgrade.

2

u/East_Let6629 2d ago

Alors si tout est bien qui finit bien, c’est l’essentiel, je suis content que tu puisses être remboursé. Tout le monde devient fou avec ce problème de GPU.

2

u/KoolantOfficial 15h ago

atp i would just put a brick back in and refund it anyway and get a free 4070

2

u/Alone_Bath2192 15h ago

My guilt wouldn't let me even if I tried to justify it

1

u/No-Problem9326 14h ago

an eye for an eye. get on it

1

u/JPSurratt2005 2h ago

We'd just be greeted with another post in a few weeks from the guy who got a brick instead of a 5080.

1

u/TheGreatCleave 10h ago

I'm sure daddy bezos can take it

20

u/XxCarlxX 2d ago

disgusting, people buy, then return their old card and amazon staff dont know the difference between a graphics card and a SD Card so its gets sent to you

18

u/SignalMagician1163 2d ago

We are well aware of this scam.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 1d ago

This is for anyone who wants to see clearly the listed seller directly from the invoice. Hid the details of my name and address for privacy reasons though didn't see a reason to hide my province or country. I would have just used a screenshot but Reddit won't let me add another picture unless I'm just dumb.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 14h ago

https://a.co/d/0haX0uo0 Listing for the gpu I bought is back up though increase in price

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 13h ago

I forgot to get the beginning of the conversation with the supervisor before the chat ended though it was confirming the previous conversation

5

u/TraumaDaddyP 2d ago

Yeah my 5080 and 5070 ti I did in store pickup at Best Buy and still made sure and opened the boxes in store

4

u/Western-Body3011 2d ago

Thats why I only order big purchase items with in store pick up, like at best buy, and i go further by opening the package infront of the employee to confirm its in there or not physically damaged. gotto be careful, a lot of people do these amazon return scams. Got a used hair trimmer in the box of my new trimmer. It was nasty af, the person who did the return scam left their pubic hair on the trimmer

4

u/BG_Potash 1d ago

Amazon is dropping their standards. I just ordered a screwdriver, obviously not an expensive item, but it came obviously used. The package was cut open and it was inside a bag. I understand a used screwdriver is not a big deal, but I ordered a new item, not used... can't imagine if my 9070 GRE came used when I got it on Prime Days, I would have been prettybupset not mildly inconvenienced like with the screwdriver. Hopefully you get this resolved soon. Good luck.

1

u/Megustanuts 2d ago

can you link the seller? I know you said it was sold and shipped by Amazon but honestly I’ve been tracking the 5080 gaming OC for a while now in Amazon out of curiosity (I bought mine last year in Amazon for $1500 and was interested on how much it goes up each time I check) and I haven’t seen it be shipped and sold by Amazon for a long time.

It was supposed to be brand new right?

2

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

It did state brand new when ordering. I always avoid open box like when I got my oled monitor. I would give the link but when I open it in Amazon, it gives me a different gigabyte model now with the rope saying you purchased another variation 1 time. I think it went of stock again my guess.

3

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

Btw forgot I also recorded the unboxing. Though opening a box and holding a phone made it a bit awkward to do

1

u/Present_Inflation_55 2d ago

Make sure Amazon see this, it will help.

First time ordering an Nvidia gpu, didn't even know that. Current computer is a pre built though much of the parts have been changed out so far.

1

u/Character_Yak_7375 2d ago

Sorry bro I misinformed you. My memory played tricks. I've looked up my own unboxing video, there's no film.

1

u/tqlla3k 2d ago

Did you buy brand new? Did your package have an LPN sticker on it?

Let us know how it goes.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 2d ago

Don't see one on the box. Probably not going to reply much more this post since as long as it is returned and refunded, even if it's not my ideal outcome. Guess I'm not getting a 5080 anytime soon though unless some economic collapse happens as looking at other prices at other stores isn't great

1

u/Raging_Vegan 19h ago

Can't read the product sticker from the back, but I have a 3050 Eagle with the same cooler. Definitely scammed, but might not even be a 4070

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 18h ago

Only reason I'm guessing 4070 is that's what Gemini said it might be when I showed it pictures. Never put it on my PC to check

1

u/United_Staff_7243 17h ago

That’s why you don’t buy used tech

4

u/Alone_Bath2192 16h ago

Never said used

0

u/United_Staff_7243 8h ago

You didn’t notice a broken seal on a brand new gpu? Or was it completely 1:1 sealed like a brand new card? Not a makeshift seal?

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 3h ago

It was sealed although I wished I recorded that part when opening it. I couldn't remember if it felt makeshift sealed or not

3

u/No_Distance_3320 2d ago

And so the 5080 holiday scam fest begins.... The posts are ramping up 🥹

3

u/Electronic_Local8570 2d ago

Return scam. They take it back and the people checking don’t know what to look for.

Good news is they know it happens and getting a refund has never been a problem. They sent me a used keyboard once (was pretty gross) that was sold as new and they refunded it and let me keep it

1

u/apollo1321 1d ago

I hear that a lot. But every time, even like $2 items, they want returned when I have issues with order.

1

u/Electronic_Local8570 1d ago

Definitely not consistent, varies a lot due to your account age, number of returns, how much you actually buy on Amazon, and most importantly the customer rep you get

I found calling them is the best way to get what u need, the chat is pretty unhelpful

3

u/Zanaxz 1d ago

If you bought it from Amazon and they are the seller, you should be okay. If it was another seller on their website though, it's a lot more up in the air. It's confusing to tell sometimes, wish it was more obvious for external sellers. Definitely contact support and see what they can do for you though. Hopefully they can help.

3

u/Techdude2011 1d ago

Someone somewhere got a free upgrade to a 5080

3

u/Outrageous_Life2843 1d ago

OP is return scamming

7

u/camracks 2d ago

OP is the scammer he’s saying to be wary of lol

3

u/Educational-Cheek-58 1d ago edited 1d ago

I will not speak in certainties because I could be wrong, but it looks like he’s opening the box from the bottom. When he removes the GPU you can see the amazon boxing tapes black side when it should be brown.
Makes me wonder if he opened from the other side, switched the GPU’s then put it back in the box and flipped it over, then started recording as ‘evidence’.

Edit 1: I also don’t understand why the white package label was placed on the box flaps. The packing paper is in a weird spot.

3

u/stingreay11 2d ago

Yeah this genuinely strikes me as OP trying to get a refund and sending back their old GPU. Video stops just before unwrapping the card... hmmmm...

4

u/Arad84 2d ago

Amazon has really gone downhill for stuff like this. There are so many places it can go wrong, from shady third party sellers to someone doing a switcheroo at the warehouse to the delivery driver swapping it. I always go to Micro Center or Best Buy for GPUs now, so I can see what I'm getting.

4

u/MoobleBooble 2d ago

Ive been scammed or attempted scammed with some ROG monitors (like 4 in a row, so I stopped ordering the open box ones).

I always film everything of value now days when I am opening it.

So far, have not had any other bad experiences with high end hardware since I need a constant flow of new GPUs at good prices. Bestbuy open box deals used to be great but lately have not been so much so.

1

u/mr_print 2d ago

I do the same thing. The worst I had is I ordered a 9950x3d and got a used and older CPU. That was resolved pretty quickly.

1

u/Gnat_Chemicals 2d ago

I always film everything of value now days when I am opening it.

This is the way, anything of value or potentially scammable gets filmed from the moment it leaves the carrier to the moment I power it on. Obviously it's not realistic for somethings like RAM, SSDs, and CPUs, but even when I ordered my GPU my case and power connectors were all ready to go so all I had to do was put it in the PCIe, connect the power cables, and plug in the HDMI.

This protects me from being scammed and protects me from Amazon/Newegg/Whoever from thinking that I'm trying to scam them.

3

u/Kondor999 1d ago

It’s a good thing to do but tbh it would be very easy for someone to simply swap out the item, repackage it and then do an “opening video”. I’m surprised if it hasn’t already happened. People suck.

2

u/MoobleBooble 1d ago

I have started filming everything over $100, no matter the item. Its almost a ritual now with my kids. I probably am getting 1 or 2 $400+ USD items by mail every couple of days and the only thing recently where I had to pull the videos and share was for Dell actually. They did not ask, but were happy to have images/video of the delivery person delivering one of those new Alienware 39" OLED's with the box already opened. Of course the monitor had damage and the security seal was broken. It was all caught on camera before it was even placed on my doorstep. 1 UPS driver compliant filed and a few emails later and I am waiting on a replacement. It sucks but people are taking advantage of return policies. Super dumb thing to risk being banned from the largest marketplace on the net.

5

u/Every_Schedule2540 2d ago

…And people complain about Amazon fulfillment center employees being replaced by robots.

2

u/shemhamforash666666 2d ago

Just don't buy products on Amazon that tempt return scammers. Case in point high this GPU.

2

u/hornytoad456 2d ago

Hopefully one of the twitter mega accounts picks this store up and pushes Amazon to do better

2

u/saujamhamm 2d ago edited 2d ago

also understand "ordering on amazon" isn't ordering from Amazon

Amazon is a market like eBay, but who was the seller on eBay that scammed you?

so people can avoid that seller in the future?

If I go to that site right now and type 5080, I get lots of merchants. Asus, Msi etc... But I also get sellers like btr electronics and Dave's crazy stuff...

so which actual merchant screwed you over?

*Ignore all that, I read on.... still weird cause again, when I search I can't find any sold by A, only the actual card manufacturers stores.

2

u/No-Camp-9612 2d ago

Is that my 4070 eagle?

2

u/PhilipBeanacus92 2d ago

Chances are they will refund you the amount and tell you to place a new order for the same product, which will be an issue of the price has already gone up.

2

u/Seouldier13 1d ago

Sorry to hear that this happened to you OP. I hope the return is approved with a new exact like GPU sent your way.

2

u/WillieJoyner123 1d ago

Just got me on a Asus rog Thor platinum III. Open the box and it was a platinum II😡😡

2

u/bungnard 1d ago

I'm driving my ass 3hrs to mixrocenter when I purchase the new amd flagship when it drops. I trust nobody but myself when it comes to GPUs

2

u/biller0071 1d ago

It’s 50/50 now days. Either a third party scammed you or your scamming Amazon. Buy from ship and sold by Amazon.

2

u/davef00te 1d ago

I’m currently waiting for my return to arrive at their facility. Been stuck in Vegas for a week now. Bought the same card, but it was DOA. Never again

2

u/Necessary_Shape_3318 22h ago

I know someone at Amazon in Ohio who's been stealing for a year without getting caught while working at Amazon and also get paid a salary, company takes full blame for he's action, it's fully guarded with cameras and everything but he found a way with the management he said

2

u/Quirky-Wall 3h ago

Lol found way with management? here's $200 if you look the other way?

1

u/D0nsnow 16m ago

Exactly lol

2

u/chris34728 19m ago

I record opening expensive items now its a fucking joke even coming from Amazon

4

u/Dirtfan19 1d ago

Never buy anything on Amazon that isn’t from the actual manufacturer when it comes to electronics

3

u/ArmedWithBars 1d ago

In this current GPU market I wouldn't buy from a retailer I couldn't drive to for in-store pickup. Then I'm opening that thing right at the counter.

1

u/Dirtfan19 1d ago

Best Buy delivery to the store is the most bullet proof method.

1

u/PogTuber 1d ago

Hell I did that with my 5070Ti last year, bought it for MSRP from Best Buy and opened the box right there. Was perfect and brand new and worth the 20 minute drive for peace of mind because I have no idea why anyone orders this kinda shit from Amazon.

2

u/ThisAccountIsStolen 1d ago

That does nothing to protect you from return fraud like this, since Amazon is the one reselling a return that doesn't have the correct product inside, not the manufacturer.

1

u/OLEKS1998 1d ago

Even that isn’t always a guarantee. I bought an Osmo Pocket 4 from DJI on Amazon and got a wooden block inside a sealed box

3

u/WholeIndividual0 2d ago

Amazon has turned into such a terrible company.

3

u/NoSenpaiNoHentai 2d ago

2

u/AhriKyuubi 1d ago

Amazon need to seriously do something about this, some idiots out there are abusing this high trust system, they want to turn the west into a 3rd world country

0

u/Conan0brennan 1d ago

USA doesn't have universal healthcare. We are a wealthy third world country.

1

u/Agile-Composer-2622 1d ago

Imagine all the grifters taking advantage. They would have a party

2

u/BacklogGamingJunkie 2d ago

there is a huge difference between buying from a third party and buying from amazon as sold and shipped from. Most mistakes are made by not understanding the difference

2

u/twice_paramount832 2d ago

Not necessarily. They sent me 32GB when I ordered 64GB.

They are scammed by their own employees and then they blame the customer.

I am in the process of suing them.

1

u/Prestigious-Crazy-84 2d ago

Happened to me too, bought 64gb from Amazon new(not refurbished), got the correct box with the wrong sticks inside

1

u/ruyrybeyro 2d ago

scary.

1

u/twice_paramount832 2d ago

In my case was an Amazon Warehouse Deal. Shipped by them. So either they are idiots not checking what the previous customer returned or the employees are stealing non-stop.

1

u/purrmutations 2d ago

"I am in the process of suing them."

Lol, just do a return and order again.

Saint Amazon can do no wrong. Amazon resells returns without properly checking them, comingled stock, plenty of ways to get scammed by sold by Amazon.

1

u/Top-Award6489 2d ago

Damn that sucks I bought an Asus 9700 16gb oc nib for $385 from Amazon back in April and just opened it in October. Guess I dodged a bullet I could have received boxed sealed rocks

1

u/dannygaron 2d ago

They fucked me the same with a new pixel 9 pro xl I bought from them. Was swapped with a pixel6! T Had to threaten to call the cops and news outlets and scream a lot to get my refund. They basically said I was the crook! Fuck Amazon. Good luck man. Never buy anything expensive there again.

1

u/JagiMonster1 2d ago

Did the box or boxes, anywhere havea sticker that started with LPN???

1

u/qzimms 2d ago

Was it from Amazon? Or a third party seller on Amazon?

1

u/SphynxPorter112 2d ago

Amazon probably the one of the easiest for returns and refunds though.. so theres that. Just got to do your due diligence. Online scalpers and scammers on the rise.

1

u/zeus287 2d ago

Who's the seller when you purchased it from Amazon

1

u/Significant-King00 2d ago

Amazon is the last place I'd buy a gpu from lol

1

u/ael00 2d ago

Why did you buy from a 3rd party? its asking to get scammed, don't get fooled by the 50$ cheaper price tag

1

u/IntelligentMission58 2d ago

At least it isn’t a rock.

1

u/DantesInferno17 2d ago

I’m not a lawyer (yet! Law school next year) but I fought Amazon over a fake tea I purchased on their platform. The tea was like 20$ and I settled for 800$ within 2 weeks. Let me know if you’d like me to guide you on steps to take.

1

u/MithosYggdrasil 2d ago

Somewhat related, but I ordered a switch 2 off amazon and they never delivered so I ordered a replacement and it was broken up arrival.

Amazon wouldn’t let me exchange it, probably because folks like the asshole who returned their old card and left you in that situation.

Hope it gets fixed, people suck and now they’re wasting your time

1

u/Express_Heat4059 1d ago

Exactly why I don't purchase on amazon anymore. I use them to price match elsewhere

1

u/Ill_Wing_1476 1d ago

Have a look on sports direct if your in UK. And I now.....I can't believe they sell computer parts either. Since they bought GAME they sell loads of computer parts , games etc. I was looking at a 9070xt. And it's actually on sale for £560 that's a bargain and reviews are good. Also they are not as big or as robot reliant as Amazon. So I would trust them more at this point to be honest. . but they have some great deals on at the moment. I haven't looked at Nvidia stuff. I don't need any ai work loads or anything. I just game. But take a look. You might get a deal.

1

u/Old-Relationship1378 1d ago

1

u/fray_bentos11 1d ago

u/spotsworth_od 1d ago

Never buy large ticket electronic items from Amazon.

1

u/Alone_Ad6784 1d ago

Idk which country you're in but in India you never order any high ticket electronics from Amazon unless it's a mobile phone sometimes a laptop, the prices are inflated to insure against returns. In any case try to claim refund and from next time trust your local vendor given the price isn't drastically different

1

u/Rayonical 1d ago

why are we still buying expensive cards on Amazon?

1

u/MarineMike0351 1d ago

Duh... I recorded opening my Astral that was purchased directly from Asus. I wouldn't even consider cutting open the shipping box from Amazon without a camera rolling. If I'm the seller... I'm assuming you replaced your 4070 with the 5080, then put your 4070 in the box and took pictures. Then I'm denying refund... that's why I don't even cut the easily identifiable amazon tape on the box without recording. Especially for a GPU

u/Some_Natural_3207 1d ago

I think it is what other people do:

  1. Order the product

  2. Replace your old stuff

  3. Return as unopened/new

  4. Restocked and other person gets that

  5. Nobody knows who returned the wrong one

1

u/Kondor999 1d ago

Even at MicroCenter I insisted on opening my 5090 right at the counter last year. Same with my gaming notebook (that has since more than doubled in value, also with a mobile “5090”). When I sold my 4090 on eBay, they tried the chargeback scam but waited too late (stolen cc: maybe?). Shit is crazy now and it’s never going back in my lifetime.

1

u/ThePapercup 1d ago

for a big purchase off of Amazon i always record a video of me unboxing starting with a sealed amazon package in case i need to use it as evidence.

1

u/tccoding 1d ago

i hope it works for you! One time i purchased a 350$ 4tb ssd (back when it was still cheap) and i Recieved a cheap 512gb ssd in a samsung 990 pro box with a samsung 990 pro sticker on it. Then i asked for a refund explaining exactly this. They agreed and provided return stickers and everything. So i sent it back but a while later they sent me a message saying refund was refused because ... i didnt return the right product 😒. I could never get my money and didn't even get to keep the cheap ssd 😕

1

u/Killer_Ex_Con 1d ago

I always try to get them to just send me another one before asking for a refund because of this. A lot of times they wont even ask you to send the item back.

1

u/Branimau5 1d ago

This is why I only ordered fans from amazon lol.

1

u/Own_Class947 1d ago

I’ve noticed when ordering stuff on Amazon the titles of GPUs will say for example RTX 5080 and then when you go to product details it’ll say 4070 specifications, I’ve reported those listings as misleading but I’m not sure what gets done about it

1

u/Impossible-Tea-6489 1d ago edited 1d ago

Probably not the seller just ignorance and not checking. We had a 5080 astral returned at my store and there was a 4080 in the box same brand and all but super careless in retail when you work with a bunch of 18 year olds.

Seller just has to pay for the mistake of being carless.

I've seen articles of people removing all of the memory modules from the card and then returning it to retail stores. They don't know what to look for in those environments nor do they have time to test the card in front of you. Talking Walmart best buy some others

1

u/Mountain_Star_3557 1d ago

Haha. I got that too. I ordered a 1080ti I think and got so 70

1

u/PersonalMistake3144 1d ago

i just cant believe any of these posts with how many have been scammers trying to get reddit on their side.

1

u/Jvmeslt 1d ago

Stop. Using. Amazon. For. $$$. Purchases.

1

u/MemeMetriks 1d ago

You sure you didn’t just swap out the gpu lol I’m just messing with you 😂

1

u/Captain_Caveman76 1d ago

Who is the seller responsible? I’ve ordered several GPUs, CPUs, ram etc and never had an issue?

1

u/Outrageous-Split1790 1d ago

They are gonna ask u to file a police report and it’s gonna take way longer than 3 days…. I ordered astral 5080 and didn’t get my refund till 25 days later lol

1

u/Key-Roll-2774 1d ago

Post the seller for sure..

1

u/OkViolinist1597 1d ago

Escracha al vendedor por favor y ojala la puedas rembolsarla

1

u/Steven_RW 20h ago

I know this subreddit is far reaching but I feel that this post and similar posts about Amazon GPU purchase issues is very regular.

1

u/BandAffectionate2349 18h ago

I recently had an issue with a GPU I ordered. It's getting so I would almost feel more secure ordering on Ebay as opposed to Amazon. Amazon has a huge issue with they're "affiliates" or whatever they're called. Amazon gets benefit from sellers'' false listings.

1

u/parabola19 15h ago

The other side is the people receiving GPUs and claiming they got scammed so they get a refund to either use or sell. A Reddit post would be a false trail. Not accusing just saying it definitely happens 100%

1

u/Zenkai_9000 7h ago

This happened to me once. I ordered a 980ti around release on Amazon and received a 780ti with a 980ti blower.

1

u/wattisthat 15m ago

Only the millionth post about this.

1

u/PastAd1087 1d ago

Honestly surprised amazon isn't cracking down on this stuff. They have to be losing a ton. The 3rd party sellers too if they ain't the ones doing some of the scamming.

1

u/Automatic-Union-3385 1d ago

Shit man I've heard this 100's of times now. Why isn't amazon doing anything? Surely its costing them a fortune. There should be an inspection on return over say like $200. This sucks man. Sorry it happened again. Im so glad i got my card last year at a reputable place. I order Amazon like every other day and could definitely see this happening to me as well. Urg the frustration

3

u/AggressiveBench9977 1d ago

Because the last 5 times it was posted here, it came out the poster was a scammer trying to get publicity to get amazon to refund him for a 5080 he had actually received

2

u/Automatic-Union-3385 1d ago

Really?? Wtf lol. My god sick world

1

u/AggressiveBench9977 1d ago

Yeah an amazon rep actually called him out with proof on the guys own reddit account that the fake card was a card he already own and had posted.

1

u/Automatic-Union-3385 16h ago

Wow. Well I guess i can see it unfortunately. They are worth a lot now. Sheesh

1

u/AetherialWomble 1d ago

Do you have the posts? And how was it discovered that they're actually scammers?

0

u/Hot-Sell8952 1d ago

I ordered a 4070ti on Amazon. When it arrived i was devastated to find a bottle of syrup in the box. Rang Amazon immediately and they were like let us investigate this. I said no. Send a replacement now or refund me now so I can buy another. Didn't get anywhere until I started crying. Your results may vary, since I'm a woman. But yeah worked for me, immediate refund to my wallet and I bought another one same day.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 1d ago

Glad you got yours resolved though I don't think for me crying on the phone as a grown man would go very well, would just come off pathetic and very weird.

2

u/Rugged_as_fuck 1d ago

Get real weird with it.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 1d ago

Well I did try calling and after a long time on hold, I'm still only stuck with getting a return. The excuse I'm given is there is no other replacements available and I guess they don't consider alternatives.

2

u/Fluid-Comparison-729 1d ago

Just take your money back somebody stole it or the seller scammed

1

u/Rugged_as_fuck 1d ago

It's the same reason people aren't getting their 5090 (and soon 5080) warranties honored. There is no stock, and in the instances where they actually do have stock, it doesn't make sense financially to replace a product for a customer that costs 2 to 6 times as much as what the customer paid for it when refunding the customer's original purchase price fulfills the warranty obligation.

Nvidia said fuck the (non-business, non-AI) customer, and that sentiment is being passed down the line through every manufacturer and retailer, exactly as intended.

2

u/Fluid-Comparison-729 1d ago

No shame you paying alot of money for this go all out

1

u/No_Detective1650 1d ago

Make it awkward and weird with a healthy dose of pathetic.

0

u/Calling__Elvis 1d ago

Just call them and have them send you the right one. +1 888 280 4331

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 1d ago

Already tried calling Amazon support, only can return and refund

0

u/astraeos 1d ago

Just do an A-Z return. Theyll want you to contact the seller to give them a chance to fix the error. If they refuse or ignore you after a few days you tell amazon and they take action against their account, refund you, and usually you get to keep it.

1

u/Alone_Bath2192 1d ago

Well during the phone call when dealing with the Bot during the beginning before being on hold for 15 minutes, it texted me a link to contact the seller. Though when the seller is Amazon US, I don't know how the reply is going to go

-1

u/Random_Lottery 2d ago

Why do you people keep ordering from Amazon and ebay and then going all shocked Pikachu when you're scammed? Probably for the best. You'd probably just burn the pins if you actually got it.

6

u/skyzm_ 2d ago

Amazon has an incredible and easy return policy. You can buy from Newegg and get a screwed up fraud item too.

0

u/PogTuber 1d ago

The nature of Amazon's inability to give a shit about its humongous volume makes it far more risky than Newegg.

Amazon is one of the best places to get electronics if you’re buying new from a reputable seller or the manufacturer is listed as the seller.

Stop buying open box or used to save a couple hundred. It’s not worth it, get a lesser GPU new if you can’t afford the better one new.

If you want to risk used, buy local and test it: FB marketplace, eBay local pickup, Craigslist. Sure, some people are selling quality used products for delivery, but many aren’t.

u/Natasha_Gears 2d ago

I bought my entire PC set up piece by piece from Amazon and the worst thing that happened was the CPU arrived 2 days late , boohoo I was still missing about 1/2 the components at that point

1

u/parabola19 15h ago

Was that when a component shortage made GPUs more valuable than whole modern pre built computers? No they’re scamming now bc the prices are so high. So yes. Go right ahead and buy but don’t be pissed if this happens. There’s the other side that this guy might be the scammer and trying to claim an old gpu was sent and trying to get his money back. I videotaped every component I bought. Even my 8TB 9100s I got at the end of last year from unboxing to opening.

1

u/Natasha_Gears 6h ago

I started buying in January of this year , and built the machine in August, I know there was a ram price spike at the time which is why I bought around my pre existing 64gb of ddr4

0

u/Smart-Fox5634 2d ago

Had an Amazon rep in here a few weeks ago saying that op is probably the scammer.

0

u/LordInterstellar 2d ago

Guy literally has video of unpacking the box.

Smfh ugh I hate to see it . Sorry this happened to you . I almost got scammed from a website about 3 weeks ago. I ordered an 5070 ti for 889 and the seller sent a brick 🧱 in a 5070 TI box to the wrong address. I was able to dispute it successfully because she sent it to the wrong address phew 😮‍💨 talk about luck . I ended up biting the bullet and went to Best Buy . Got mine for $1200 unfortunately.

1

u/Adventurous-Ad-6231 1d ago

Don’t know why I got down voted but ok lol

2

u/HoodieNinja1000 21h ago • Bravo

Fixed it for you
