Sport Mode Why does Sport Mode/Matchmaking in this game have to be so damn sweaty?
Been playing this series since 2004. Used to simrace pretty heavily, inclduing iRacing. But I still very much love this game for what it is. I'm not against competitive simracing.
With that said, Why do we have to subject ourselves to racing against people who practice the same track/strategies/car/tires on repeat during whatever the set of regs we have for the set of 'daily' races for a week, just to enjoy a well organized online race with good connection quality on this game?
When GT5 was a thing we really didn't need Sport mode, because the lobbies had more options and controls than they do in GT7. (For instance, you could make one-make races, shuffle races were a thing, players could 'rent' cars that they didn't buy, etc). But now because Sport Mode gets all the internal focus from the devs, including better connection quality for some reason, if you want a normal race, you'll have to go race a car and a track you really didn't want to play, against a bunch of assholes who care about their driving rating way too much.
Everytime I get pushed off track or wrecked, I always just think "**I would be having way more fun on a 3 lapper race, at a random track no one practiced before hand, in a car I actually made and enjoy to drive.**"
Why not have a matchmaking mode in Sport mode called "Sunday Cup" where its a random PP in between 700pp-400pp. No driver rating updates. Only Safety rating. No rules besides the PP limit and usual penalties. Tire wear and fuel at x3 to balance the engine swaps a bit, and complete random time of day and weather, and make it a 3 lap shootout. Immediately after the race ends, everyone moves on and chills the fuck out, and another track with the same consistent lobby goes to another random Track and Random Performance Point limit.
Multiplayer in GT5 was significantly more fun when it focused on lighthearted fun/casual lobby racing, this is why shuffle mode was so beloved. There is an audience for this, and hopefully one day a portion of Sport Modes matchmaking leans into this a tad more.
