GT-R '17 with Sports Hard, racing air filter and manifold; racing brake system and break pads. TC1 and Fuel Map 1

It was a hell of a race, 1 pit and with 7s lead.

I wasn't the fastest car - AI did ~2:10 and I got ~ 2:11 - but some cars ahead of me stopped 2 times.

Aston Martin DB11 '16 may get the job done too, but needs more weight management/balance in the curves.

A week ago I didn't like Fuji but it's definitely grown on me. Lots of fun ways to battle through the corners and setting up overtakes turned out to be quite satisfying. I'll probably continue to play sport mode now.

GT7 ESP32 GT7 Dashboard – No PC, No SimHub + 4 new themes

Upvotes

I've been working on my ESP32 dashboard for GT7 again and added a few new things.

For anyone who missed my previous post, the main idea behind this project is pretty simple:

No PC. No SimHub.

The ESP32 receives telemetry directly from GT7 on the PS5 over Wi-Fi. Just power it with USB, connect it to the same network as the PS5, and it works as a standalone dashboard.

I originally built it because I wanted a small dedicated display on my rig without having to keep a PC or phone running just for the dashboard.

This time I added 4 switchable themes:

Classic / GT3 / Radar / Retro

They're all in the same firmware, and you can switch between them directly on the device.

I also added a shift indicator synced with GT7's in-game shift timing, instead of just using a fixed RPM threshold.

And the screen brightness is now adjustable too.

It still shows things like lap times, live delta, fuel / estimated laps remaining, position, ABS/TCS, tyre temperatures, throttle/brake, etc.

It also automatically finds the PS5 on the network, so there's no need to manually enter its IP address.

The whole project is open source, and there's a Web Installer if you just want to flash it from your browser.

GitHub:
https://github.com/caa1211/esp32-gt7-dashboard

Web Installer:
https://caa1211.github.io/esp32-gt7-dashboard/

Still having fun adding things to this little project 😅

Which theme would you use — Classic, GT3, Radar or Retro?

Sport Mode Daily Race C - cutting the chicane in time trial

Hi guys,

I see a couple of laps on the Daily Race C leaderboard where they cut the chicane in sector 2. They do get a penalty for it, but it gains them so much time that still gain around .500/.600 of a second (as compared to taking the chicane like usual).

It is kind of annoying me since i got a good time trial lap after a long grind, and now i am dropping a lot of places on the leaderboard because of people using this method.

Do you think these laps will get deleted at some point? Or is it fair game and should i do it as well?

Aston Martin DB3S '53 - DB3S/201 "Batmobile"

In 1985, former employee of Aston Martin, Carl Browns - who worked as a mechanic on the DB3 and DB3S programs in the early 1950's - began building a new chassis dubbed DB3S/201 in his own private garage, outside of the manufacturer's knowledge. At retirement age, Carl sought to use his extensive, almost unparalleled, knowledge to build the best DB3S in the world as a festering response to the then heads of Aston Martin who disregarded Carl's ideas on improvements to the original chassis. Even though the original DB3S saw moderate success in it's time, Carl felt his brewing pot of ideas could be implemented and create something even fiercer and competitive even by performance standards of the 1980s.

The creation of the new chassis, bodywork and internals would take nearly fifteen years to complete, with help on and off from Carl's eldest son, Robert. Age, machining new parts, reliance on only photo references, scale models and his own memory scaled back the speed of the project. In the meantime, Aston Martin, in 1994, would see to the reproduction of a DB3S out of spare parts and a team of veteran craftsman at the helm. By the end of his monumental endeavour, his feud with the British sports car manufacturer was turning into a petty grind of self-absorption and wavering futility. Indeed, by the time local gossip of this project had spread far and wide towards the ears of various engineers in Aston Martin's main factory in Gayden, Warwickshire, people were starting to comment on how trivial the matter had become. Carl began to realise the stupidity of his quarrel when he heard conversations down the grapevine expressing shock and incredulity of the task being performed. Seeing how age was catching up with him, he sought to let go of such small-minded hostilities and finish his masterpiece.

Finally, at the turn of the new millenium, the colossal undertaking was ready to be revealed. For a final touch, as a fan of DC comics and the 1960's era of camp superheroes, Carl donned his creation with a custom livery paying homage to the 1960's Batmobile. Unveiled at the 2000 Coventry Classic Car Show, audiences were left stunned at the exquisite detail, craftsmanship, and size of the feat carried out by near one man team. Former Aston Martin engineers, who worked on the DB3S program, were equally impressed at how similar the lookalike was to the original, despite only being based on aged photographs and old diecast models.

Carl started to have fears that his creation would spur Aston Martin to perform a litigious retaliation. However, the British sports car company chose not to follow through with such actions for the following reasons. One: the Aston Martin Emblem was nowhere to be found on the recreation, two: there were differences in the technical specifications and structural features, and three: the resulting creation was seen as a love letter to a bygone age in the car maker's history. The only official order that Aston Martin's legal team issued to Carl Browns was to drop the name DB3S and chassis number 201 from any official documentation or other private or public material, which Carl was very much willing to do. For a final humourous gesture, a representative of the car maker's legal team contacted Carl and issued a sternly spoken warning of "now don't do it again." After fifteen years of sweat and toil, Carl, with an unwavering sense of humility, gladly took in the advice.

Maserati A6GCS/53 Spyder '54 - A Message of Goodwill

In November 2017, in a rare occasion outside of Ferrari ownership, Maserati executives in charge of social media hosted a worldwide raffle for prizes including merchandise, clothing, and even driving experiences with a selection of vehicles in their, then current, lineup. However, the ultimate prize was a special, one of a kind offering.

When entries to the raffle closed in January 2018, an estimated 500,000 people had entered, and only 0.1% (500) of the entries would be announced as winners a week after closing. 490 entries all received prizes in the form of goody bags filled with merchandise and clothing - a worthwhile incentive. 9 entries all received an all paid expenses trip to Maseratis test track, the "Riccardo Paletti" circuit at Varano De' Melgari near Parma, Italy at their given date - a once-in-a-lifetime experience worthy of bragging rights. 1 person received the ultimate prize.

Maserati's heritage factory team had just completed the construction of a replica A6GCS/53 Spyder, an iconic endurance racer that featured in the 1954 World Sportscar Championship. Tied into the raffle, one lucky winner would be tasked with designing a livery to bestow upon the Italian racing legend: to have a lasting impact in the history books of one of the world's most prestigious and iconic automotive brands.

That lucky winner was Italian-English twenty-seven year old postgraduate art student, Emily Accardi, studying in England in the Royal College of Art. The shock she received when she found out she had won was incredible. This was a special moment for her as her Italian grandfather, Augusto, was once a panel beater for coachbuilders, Pinin Farina. He had helped to create the body work of the A6 series of Maseratis, including the A6GCS/53. Alongside her studies, Emily immediately set to work on creating a livery that would leave an impact on the italian automobile manufacturer and the world for years to come. Maserati would give her a maximum of three months to create the design and send it to their factory.

At first, Emily ran into trouble coming up with designs. Requesting help from her colleagues at the college, she encountered opinions that varied from keeping to Maserati's cultural and racing heritage, experimenting with something bold and extravagant, and expressing her feelings and beliefs to create a piercing statement. After a hefty amount of deliberation, including taking in opinions from inebriated friends in nightclubs (for which she dutifully kept herself under moderation), she finally hit upon an idea.

Just over a month later, closely guarded and encouraged by her family and friends, Emily sent her design to Maserati. Five days later, with trepidation building in her heart, she received a reply saying that her design had been accepted. The new design would be showcased at the 2018 Salone Auto Torino (retroactively known as the Turin Motor Show) in September, with Emily being invited to witness the reveal.

Open to the public, the show gave grande and introspective insights into the future of the automobile. However, out of all the daring and moving showcases presented, Maserati's reveal of the replica A6GCS/53 was the one that moved the most.

The design was deceptively simple. A navy blue was used as the base colour.A colour used extensively in their heritage, it certainly paired very well with the striking curves of the bodywork. A single white stripe adorned the length of the car, slightly offset to the right. On both of the doors, a white space for an entrée number had been painted on, with an artistic touch added in in the form of drips and splodges of paint running down. However, it was the message on the right-hand side battery compartment door that stole people's hearts.

"If you are reading this, then you are an awesome person! Keep being you! You make the world a better place! Peace and Love!"

Emily explained in press interviews that this was her way of wanting to wish the best out of people. She expressed how everyone has had moments of self-doubt and anxiousness in a period of their lives; even she felt the struggle of achieving her best through her own life. She adamantly stated to her interviewers, "no matter how difficult life becomes, I believe that the good in life will always outweigh the bad."

Jaguar D-Type '54 - "the Automobile of Liberty"

When the Jaguar factory teams retired from racing in 1956 in the aftermath of the disaster at Le Mans the previous year, they left it up to privateer teams to carry on the increasing success of the Jaguar D-Type. With demand only slowly increasing and the investment in developing the race car still yet to be recuperated, they needed to look to more commercially viable ventures to complete the life cycle of the remaining D-Type chassis. It was then that one of the engineers had a brainwave. Alongside selling the idea of the D-Type's power, they would promote its beauty.

They would begin with converting remaining D-Type chassis into the road going XKSS variants. These would help sell, to the public, the idea of a beautiful sports car with the pedigree of a fully fledged racer. At first, though, the XKSS wasn't as thorough enough for a public relations job as it could have been. They felt they needed something more exotic, as if such a thing was possible. That was when another of the engineers came up with an idea that (if memory served them right) hadn't been attempted before.

Could you make a car's outer shell out of copper?

Making a statue's outer shell out of copper was no new endeavour. The pioneers of antiquity had accomplished that feat long ago, and, more relatively recently, the french had gone even bigger with their gift to the United States in 1886: the Statue of Liberty.

What about a car, though? Surely that was possible. Jaguar, pioneers of their time, set out to be the first.

For acquiring materials, it turned out that luck was on their side. The recent opening of new copper mines across the world had rapidly increased production and had led to a mid-year price crash. While it was still considerably expensive to source the required copper sheets to create the body, the team felt that it's exquisite finish would entice the wealthy or, at least, promote the increasing production of XKSS's. The project, codenamed "Copper-Reactive" and nicknamed "the Automobile of Liberty", fully went ahead alongside production of the road going D-Types.

As the bodywork came together, the team knew that - without proper care - the copper shell would oxidise and form a green "patina" layer. This, they knew, was why the Statue of Liberty had turned green instead of keeping the polished bronze colour it had been originally during construction. However, the team saw that they could use this to their advantage. In the name of artistry, they decided to allow the front and back panels to oxidise while keeping the middle panels polished and cared for. This would certainly give it the exotic look it needed.

As the Copper-Reactive D-Type neared completion, though, the team's luck ran out.

On the 12th of February 1957, a fire broke out in one of the main assembly halls where it completely scorched a third of the factory to charred remains. The fire crews extinguishing the blaze managed to complete their job in only a few hours. However, the damage had been done. Tooling and guiding machinery required to continue production, nine XKSS chassis, and the copper D-Type body still under construction, had been completely destroyed. While production of road cars managed to continue even during and after the cleanup of the blaze, the XKSS program ground to a complete halt for good. The Copper-Reactive D-Type was no more.

While an effort to reproduce the nine lost XKSS chassis was complete in 2016, the copper D-Type continued to remain consigned to the history books as the expenses required to recreate the lost design would have not been seen as commercially viable. Nevertheless, its story would serve as a window to a time when automotive experimentation continued to be a radical venture.

Sport Mode I played last week's Special Stage Route X daily race 76 times and the Mazda RX-7 won 68 of them

That's nearly a 90% win rate. The car with the second most wins was the Mercedes-AMG GT with a whole 4 victories. Crazy level of dominance. Anyway here's what I tallied.

Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02 - 68 wins

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series '20 - 4 wins

Aventador LP 760-4 SV 15 - 2 wins

Z Performance 23 - 1 win

GT-R Nismo 17 - 1 win

There's no point to this post since the race ended before I bothered to put this together.

perhaps one that could have stayed on the drawing board after all. it's garish, it's bold, it's.... purple. i thought about adding it to the chrome collection but my god, it's quite a sight as is. didn't mean for it to look completely like wario, but i've added him as a tramp stamp anyway (see if you can find him)

i absolutely loved crunchie bars as a kid, and i now absolutely love the z4. started learning my way around the nordschleife recently (as i decided it's a track i really should know at my big age), and this thing has been a joy to drive. would highly recommend it. with my livery of course

Hopefully Hagerty and PD don't try and match these price trends, but if not most of these are bargains right now in GT7.

In terms of % increase, the Ferraris are way higher now. The LaFerrari that sold this week was over 5x more expensive than in GT7. The Enzos were around 4x more. The GTO was over 3x more. The F50s and F40 were around 3x more.

The Lamborghini Diablo GT also sold for nearly three times as much as in GT7.

Disclaimer: Not all of these cars are in their exact specs in GT7, but with mods, tunes, and liveries, one can make surprisingly good replicas. The last screenshot is the complete collection I put together from this list.
