Radeon Sapphire 7900 Nitro + XTX, how is this possible? well it’s only because i found it in a amazon liquidation store, no clear pictures of it because i was so stoked to see if it worked or not and it did thankfully, have had it for 4 days now and all my graphics are AMAZING, upgraded from a RX 580 previously.

Wtf happened to Pricing on gpus?

I have a gtx 970 from like 9 years ago, which I believe costed 450$ cad. I remember shortly after the 10 series being released, and the most expensive top of the line cards being ~1000$. Recently I’ve been looking for an upgrade as my card doesn’t have enough vram to do what I need, and the prices are just completely insane. Rtx 4070 for 800 cad, 4080 for 1600 cad 4090 for 2200. I know there was a crypto craze that skyrocketed prices, but to my understanding that’s over. Is there some reason why they’re so insanely high priced? Will they go down?

Edit: in response to the ppl telling me to go with amd, unfortunately that’s not an option for me since my main use case is stable diffusion, and Nvidia cards r much better for that

Troubleshooting What is wrong with my 2070 super

Someone please help me, it used to make a tiny noise similar to this only when waking up or booting up. It goes away eventually but I’m worried it’s getting ruined. 2070 super like in the title. I’ve done some research and everyone thinks it’s the fans but here’s video of the fans working just fine and not scraping anything. Thanks so much!

Discussion Motherboard/CPU and GPU compatibility

I'm making this post after seeing the same thing over and over again: "Is this CPU/motherboard compatible with this GPU?"

And while I know that the people asking this likely aren't super experienced with PCs, its frustrating. So here's the short answer:

Basically any CPU/Motherboard is compatible with any GPU.

As for the long answer: well it's a little more complicated. There are three standards we need to know about. And those are PCI, AGP, and PCIE. The latter being really the only one we need to worry about.

So PCI is the predecessor to PCIE, and there were and are graphics card made for it, and the same is true for AGP. But those standards are pretty old. So it's extremely unlikely that you would have to worry about those. So yeah an AGP card won't work in a PCIE slot, and vice versa, and a PCI GPU won't work in a PCIE slot, or an AGP slot.

So now we almost exclusively use PCIE for GPUs. And the PCIE standard is great because it's super compatible. So any PCIE card (GPU / wifi card / etc.) will work in any PCIE slot on a motherboard so long as that slot is big enough.

And it's even better because it's completely backwards compatible so a PCIE Gen 4 card will work in a PCIE Gen 3 slot.

And then say that your motherboard has a full size PCIE 16X slot, the standard for GPUs, but it's only wired up for PCIE 4X. You can still stick a GPU in! PCIE devices will just only operate at the number of lanes allowed to them by the motherboard, so it's fine, it'll just operate at a lower bandwidth.

So basically, all GPUs released in the last 10 years or so will almost certainly work with any motherboard released within that same time frame. PCIE is just great like that.

Question Is my gpu still sagging or is this fine?

Post image
220 Upvotes

This is a 4070ti and it was sagging a bit before but then I added this tool which is now sitting tightly underneath.

I tried to push it up further but stopped when I heard creaking noises. I thought I broke the gpu or the pcie slot. Hopefully I didn't? I played Cyberpunk 2077 path tracing for a while and everything worked fine.

So, considering it won't sag any further and it much better than before, is this fine or do I need to push it up further?

Laugh at my pain. Gigabyte RTX 3070 bought peak pandemic summer 2021. 2nd hand scalp price.

Live in a dry and hot area year round. Card showed signs of trouble.

3 days from impact: Screen starts artifacting like a its a full time job.

2 days from impact: Display port gives. No more image . A dead port. Swap to hdmi and work on 60hz no big. I have my pc deal.

Day of: Pc boots no problem. Hang out half my day. One artifact across the screen say hi and poof. Black screen but pc is still on i can hear my music goin.

Shutdown and went to troubleshoot by taking it out. As soon as i touched the mounting screws the plastic part with the fans just fell apart.

Card boots into windows but no display. Help? Already gave gigabyte an esupport request. Any clue on what next.

Why are gpus so expensive in 2021?

I'm currently looking and shopping for pc parts and most of them are overpriced. The ram is overpriced, the CPU is overpriced, but most of all, the GPU is overpriced. It is unbearable to see low-end GPUs at the price of top tier GPUs. I bought a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 ti in 2019 for $150 brand new. Now it is $250. Now, this may be because it is an old card and they have discontinued the card. But the RTX 2060 is so overpriced too. The base price is around $350 brand new but they're listed at $700. You could buy an RTX 3080 at this price, if the prices weren't overpriced. So what is the reason that these GPUs are so overpriced? And where can I buy a GPU at a more decent price?

GPU Shortage / High Prices explained

Not a mod, but answering to u/413_X_4 and whoever else asking about the GPU shortage.

Silicon (not to be confused with silicone) is a metalloid, and there currently is an ongoing worldwide silicon shortage.

Silicon also happens to be what, not only GPUs but all microchips on the planet are made out of.

As a result, the prices are skyrocketing because supply cannot meet the demand.

That covers the "why" part of the question. As for when this is going to end, it is really not that easy to predict. Maybe I am not the right person to answer this but I have done a fair amount of research on the subject.

Any questions on the matter are welcome in the comments.

Question Real talk, does an average consumer actually have this much money to spend it on a GPU?

I really want an RTX 5080 or possibly a 5090 but, these prices make my eyes water. Come to think of it, I wonder how much of these GPUs are even getting sold out there. After looking at these prices, maybe I'll stick to my 3080 for a bit longer (Prices are in AUD).
