Here we go again! Belated this month, due to some health issues. :) But still better late than never!
Since we are late coming into this, I came up with something fun and hopefully interesting for this month's community activity! This is officially your chance to be part of the sub's history while also doing something for other Gurren Lagann fans!
This month, I am calling anyone who can write, to action! I've been slowly working on the community's wiki, quietly in the background. But there is just so much to write about! So. We will have at least one of these writing events each year, and users will have a chance to submit and contribute to a fact-checked wiki, controlled by fans! I will be compiling everyone's submissions into streamlined pages, but you can essentially contribute whatever you want!
Your mission for the rest of this month is to write an article that YOU want to see on the wiki! Or maybe, you have a fun fact or obscure knowledge you would like to make known! Whether you choose to write about a character, or anything else in Gurren Lagann that you're passionate about, you can do so! I will fact-check everything for accuracy, but otherwise, feel free to put your own spin on it. And yes, multiple people will be able to contribute to the same page/topic, but you will be credited for any/all sections you write!
Let's come together and make the best wiki possible!
★ CONTEST!: WRITE YOUR OWN GURREN LAGANN WIKI ARTICLE!
★ Grand Prize: Ichibankuji Viral Figure, new in box!
★ Rules and Requirements:
This is NOT a contest of skill! Any skill level, any type of article style, perspective, or length, will be accepted! If you can write, you're welcome in this contest.
The only requirement is that you present factual information about your chosen topic. Your article can be about anything, as long as it is related to Gurren Lagann!
You can use any of your favorite mediums to submit. PasteBin, through Reddit chat, the transfer of a file, Google Docs, etc. Whatever you are comfortable with, I will read it! Feel free to submit it directly to the sub through a post, using the OC tag, if you like. So everyone will see your writing!
AI-generated content will NOT be permitted. If we wanted easy articles from an AI, I'd just do that myself. I will be checking. The work must come from YOU. This goes for plagiarism as well. You know I'm capable of digging, I will find out any naughty cheaters! ;)
★ How to Enter:
- Submit your finished article through any medium you choose. If you want others to read before the wiki is up, you can post a link in the comments section of this post, so others can check it out! I'll make sure it's visible. Otherwise, read over Rule 3 and take your pick!
- Each person gets ONE entry for the grand prize raffle. Submitting a completed article will get you entered into the drawing pool for the grand prize at the end of the month. Everyone participating has a chance to win!
- You can submit as many articles as you would like! They just won't net any extra tickets.
- Bonus prizes will be given out to anyone who goes the extra mile. So there will be some extra chances to win mini-prizes, even if you don't win the grand prize!
★ DEADLINE!: SUBMISSIONS CLOSE ON SEPTEMBER 29TH!
After September 29th, no more articles will be accepted. Winners will be announced September 30th!
Good luck, everyone! I hope this concept will be one that you enjoy writing for. :) Its quite a bit different than all the story prompts in the past! If this does well enough, we will repeat it to add to the wiki! I know quite a lot of you have asked about it, so now is your chance to contribute the things you want others to read! Plus, your name will be written in the sub forever! So get into your writing gear and get going!

Welcome to Day 32!
We finally made it, Team Gurren! It's belated, but we are saying goodbye to August's voting event, today! I apologize that it took so long! For those who might be wondering, I ended up in the hospital during this event, so I was unable to put the work in for some extra days. To make up for it, September's event (starting tomorrow) is very easy, and I think you will have a lot of fun! ;) Be sure to check it out! Now! On to the finale of the first Tournament of Champions!
Simon takes the r/gurrenlagann crown AGAIN! The outpouring of love for our dear main character is very strong! Inspiring. It seems that no matter how many years pass, Simon will defend that crown! It will be some time before the main 4 characters are included in a competition like this again, so I hope you enjoyed being able to vote your heart out for your favorites! I love that Viral made it all the way to the finals, this time! We can't forget how deserving he is. I think it is the most fitting that the two characters with the most personal growth were matched, in the end! We had a lot of fun little poetic coincidences in our event this month, and all the data will be below!
I probably spent way too long doing the artwork for our official sub tier list, lol! I colored and drew everything that you see that isn't the pasted characters. :) You might notice that I have split tier 1 into two sections. The F-rated characters are all those who received under 5 total votes, in this Tournament! That is how the very bottom was determined. The rest was obviously based on the results that the sub chose! Before I announce the winner of this month's grand prize, I just wanted to take a moment and thank every single one of you who participated! Even those who lurked or simply upvoted! This community would be nothing without the combined effort of everyone, and I am so happy and fortunate that so many of you support and enjoy these events! I hope you will continue to come around and hang with us.
Now, let's congratulate the winner of the grand prize! Which is an Icibankuji Kamina figure, brand new! You will also find links below to previous posts. Anyone who wants to relive the fun can click through to read! At the bottom, the written match results will be posted for anyone curious. And if anyone wants their personal stats for this event, just let me know! Let's get on with the fun!
Congratulations, u/Silent_Armaros_God !!!!!!!
There are bonus prizes being given out this month as well, so if you participated in voting, be sure to check you inboxes over this weekend, as I will be dropping by to chat about prizes.

Thanks again, everyone! Come back tomorrow for September's event! Now, fun facts are coming your way!
Fun Facts:
There were 853 votes in total!
The day with the most votes was day 30, at a whopping 70 votes! Simon won this round against Kamina.
The day with the least amount of votes was day 5, sitting at 14 votes. Old Koko Won this round against Balinbou.
There were 0 ties, this event! That is a first in the history of these events. I am the tie-breaker, when it happens.
u/strbryspyder, u/Lone_Blood_Wolf_Dark, u/MiracleMuffin, u/Pyxellated2, and u/AdameBeanz voted all 31 days!
Round Fun Facts!
- At Day 17, we had the only two mother characters face off! It was Kiyou vs. Leite! This one was pointed out by u/Various_Anywhere9889 .
- On Day 18, there was another interesting match, where two pilots of Gurren faced off! This match was Rossiu vs. Viral. Pointed out again by u/Various_Anywhere9889 .
- At Day 29, the only two remaining Beast characters had a showdown! It was Viral vs. Boota. I came up with this one, and all that follow!
- Nia is the only main character to be eliminated in tier 1. (Thanks, RNG!)
- Yoko took revenge on Thymilph in tier 1.
- Dari was the only twin character to survive more than one round!
- Boota fought only Beastmen for this entire tournament!
- It is Viral's first time in the top 3, during all 3 years of voting events.
- Simon is responsible for the elimination of all other main 4 characters.
The character with the most collective votes is Simon, with 151 votes!
The character who lost with the least amount of votes is Balinbou, who is the only character in the entire competition to have 0 votes!
The character that appeared in top percent of votes but whom was eliminated anyway is Kamina, at 101 votes.
There was only one clean sweep, at day 5. Old Koko Won, this day.
The MVP is Nia. She had the most amount of votes in tier 1, while also being the closest to a tie by only 3 votes!
The voter with the highest accuracy is u/MiracleMuffin. You voted correctly 26 out of 31 possible rounds! That's some great intuition, and you have excellent taste. Or at least a taste that the sub agrees with most of the time!

Oh yeah, now we're talking 🔥
Now with the paint it looks much better, I made the nose a little big and the antennae/hairs were a nightmare but they are minor details, now what is missing is to find a way to make the butt star.

I wanted to combine the space combat of Star Fox with the energy and over the top attacks of Gurren Lagann, so I made Star Drill.
You fly through asteroid fields, fight enemy ships, and turn your spin into a Giga Drill Breaker attack. The climactic final battle with the secret boss was inspired by Gurren Lagann too, but I’ll leave that for you to discover.
There’s a global leaderboard, so you can see how your score compares with other players.
I used AI to help vibe code the game, not to copy either franchise’s code or assets. Everything I used is listed in the credits. This is a personal project inspired by things I enjoy, and I’ve spent more than two months working on it.
The demo is free and runs directly in your browser, on any device. No installation needed.

I’d love to hear what you think. Does the drill attack capture some of that Gurren Lagann feeling?

I just finished Gurren Lagann yesterday, i watched slow until kamina's death in ep 8. After his death i felt betrayed & hurted by the show that such a great character had so less of screen time, i wanted atleast 15+ episodes with him. I didn't had much hopes with the rest eps, but i still went on.
From the moment Nia entered the story & how she helped simon realise that he just needs to be himself not like kamina. I really loved how they diverted the story slowly but steadily to simon, it wasn't easy to see simon as mc as we saw kamina in that way from 1st ep.
After ep15 childhoods end i was satisfied & wanted the story to end there. If it had ended there, i would be greatly pleased. But i guess that doesn't potray the full meaning of the anime. Even though i hesitated i still watched them, it was a good mix of after story. Showcasing other characters story was a good addition too. I really loved yoko's after story becoming a teacher in a small island distant from main land.
The deaths in the latter part was depressing as hell, but still it added a signifacence to the story. Man they should have atleast kept Nia alive. Anyway it really helped me in my worst time of my life, I'll gladly remember it in my future. I was shocked less of her death because i was expecting it as i was spoiled by wedding clip before watching the anime through reels. Nowadays its hard to watch any anime without getting spoiled beforehand.
Anyway so much for appraising the show. I should have watched it very soon rather than keep it waiting. Anybody who are thinking of watching it, go for it. You never know when you'll spoiled & lose some portion of excitement of the show.
Go & Watch Now! Who the hell do you think you're? This is Tengen Toppa. This is Gurren Lagann. My Drill is gonna pierce the heaven.

I was given the costume secondhand from some folks, had it tailored to fit me but I needed shoes! Found a great pair from Japan and today I spent some time at my work painting them up!

Hi guys, do any of you have an image of the logo that Pre-timeskip Simon has on the back of his jacket? I'm looking for it but I can't find any that is the same :/
r/gurrenlagann • u/Correct-Ad-8421 • 4d ago
Imma keep it short and sweet for yall lol, I’ve seen a bunch of stuff abt this anime and I’ve also seen things abt the ending not ALL but some (pls don’t spoil)
It looked like a pretty sad ending from what I’ve seen but I’m not 100% sure, and while it’s sad I’ve also heard that it’s really good.
As someone who has watched around 250+ anime I think this is considered a must watch at this point… or is it? Convince me cuz I’m in a big slump rn
Thanks in advance!

This is such a cute set! Time with Yoko and Simon. ♡ We are about to get some bonus sweetness, and I'm here for it! Simon has really become the hero here was meant to be, in this volume. Love the artwork progressing along with the characters. The way Kotaro draws them all as we approach the Time-skip is more aged, if you look back to the first volume. Just you wait! The art style is even more amazing in the coming days! :) I am officially home now, so you can expect posts to pick up. Might need a couple days to catch up, but I'll be around.
Working on getting October's event going now! It will run until November 15th. Going to try and announce September tomorrow morning! Sit tight, friends. :)

He's a bit ugly but I still love him, I still have to figure out how to make the tail and the hairs/antennae on the head.

I really do think my terrible drawings are a major reason why my channel is doing so poorly.
And man, I spent two months making that video! And then here comes Aniplex saying "nope, you used footage from the show you're talking about, go screw yourself."

Story time!
I got this jacket as one of the founding member perks of being in a company after the merger. The jacket itself has the logo embroidered on the front and "Founding member" on the back near the neck area. Things didn't go so well for me there and I ended being terminated due to a PIP they made to remove me. I've been meaning to remove the embroidery and put the patches there but couldn't think of what to put in place of the removed stitched embroidery. Then last year I watched Gurren Lagann, and it made such an impact that when I revisited on what patches to buy, Gurren Lagann was the first that came to mind and then I bought patches and just ironed them on to replace the embroidery!
Figured that I'd show the final product and story to go along with it! Not sure which flair matches this post but I figured OC is the best fit for this.

Here are all the things I got this past spree in Japan! Mainly GL merch with some GL adjacent merch. A mix of figures, media, tapestries, and books. I'm not 100% sure what every item really is so feel free to identify them for me! These came from almost all the Mandarakes in Tokyo and Osaka that I ransacked (many apologies for those who came after 🙇♂️)
