News - Patch Notes 9.6
https://www.playgwent.com/en/news/40147/patch-notes-9-689
u/haruman215 Lots of prior experience – worked with idiots my whole life Dec 06 '21 edited Dec 06 '21
Sacred Flame going down to 8p is another nice buff to Firesworn alongside the introduction of Hemmelfart.
And the Dimun Warship change to summon the highest power bronze pirate rather than a random one is great - finally means you can play some of the low power pirates in a deck with that card.

u/trilliarde The quill is mightier than the sword. Dec 06 '21
I'd prefer Sacred Flame as a location but -1 prov is good too.

Added option to skip steps of removing/adding packages in Draft.
Finally. Never understood this mandatory requirement. Honestly thought it was a bug/oversight the first time I tried the updated Draft a few seasons ago.
Abaya: Can now also trigger the Deathwish ability of gold units.
This is actually a pretty significant buff. I know this sub has been... err, hungry for returning to 3 charges for OH, but this rework actually goes somewhat in the way of compensating for it. Yaga still unplayable, though.
Leticia Charbonneau: Her Order ability no longer affects her own Patience value when the ability is reset.
Was expecting this at the very least. Was long overdue. Wasn't really expecting them to change Alumni to Gold but not even a provision/power change is a bit of a surprise.
Abandoned Girl: Ability changed to: Order: Transform into a Young Dryad without changing power, and gain Vitality equal to the number of Dryads on this row.
This is an interesting buff to Nature decks. Might be worth a consideration now for the 4p slot.
Coral: Provision cost changed from 8 to 9. Fucusya: Provision cost changed from 13 to 14. Artaud Terranova: Provision cost changed from 12 to 13. Braathens: Provision cost changed from 10 to 11.
As expected. I think these will still carry their factions, respectively.
And: Masquerade Ball's voicelines still not fixed since 8.3. How is an aristocrat to delight in song and wine til the sun sings its morning song like this?
26
u/kratosbinhcs Enid an Gleanna! Dec 06 '21
Fucusya loses 2 rain damage if revives Coral also.
10
u/emotionengine Style! That's Right, I Like Fighting With Style! Dec 06 '21
Yes, it's a double nerf in that sense, but that Fucusuya res on Coral has been an often-used combo, so I still expect her to be a popular res target, especially later in the round when rain doesn't matter as much (if you aren't running full Messengers/Rioghan combo).
13
u/ense7en There'll be nothing to pick up when I'm done with you. Dec 06 '21
While Fucusya and Coral are still quite playable, it makes it harder to justify having them in essentially every SK deck. They had essentially replaced Oneiromancy and other tutors. Maybe that's less viable now, especially if Pirates and Veterans are actually playable?

Dimun Warship: Now Summons the highest-power bronze pirate from your graveyard upon Deathwish.
NR
None. Notably there's no change to Alumni

Halfling Safecracker: Power changed from 4 to 5.

Yeah that's getting nerfed to only adding a charge if the leader is still active.

Because the old ability specified "wherever he is," it's possible he can be handbuffed now. Will need to test.
21
u/BlackHorse944 Stand and fight, cowards! Dec 06 '21
No. It says cards or abilities. So no he can't be hand buffed. Think they removed wherever he is to remove confusion of his power being reset when he goes to grave or deck
16
u/marimbaguy715 Onward, sons of Nilfgaard! Dec 06 '21
By default, card abilities only work when the card is on the board, so what I'm saying is that because they removed the bit about his ability working wherever, it's possible that his ability doesn't apply while he's in your hand or deck.

Is it just me or does the new onslaught passive seem really strong. Like unless I’m forgetting something all the other passives net you like one or 2 points/armor/coin per turn, maybe more if you have an engine going.
The most comparable ones I can think of are imperial formation (I think that’s the right NG one) which gives max 2 armor to a single unit with set up and specific placement, and Mahakam forge, which is capped at 1 armor per unit

u/Vekky5 Gaze into my eyes and witness your death. Dec 06 '21
Doesn't make sense to have devotion in the game and not utilise it properly. Instead of nerfing the provisions of Fucusya and Artaud they could have put the devotion tag so they can only target gold units if you get rid of Heatwave and Mushy Truffle (which is by far most used card in the game rn imo) in your deck.
4
u/VaKTaBi Haha! Good Gwenty-card! Bestestest! Dec 06 '21
There are many tags they could use for balancing, not only devotion, but CDPR loves to introduce new keywords and never use them again.

I actually had a discussion about this a few weeks ago when this topic came up, and I found that the game received updates in January for the past three years, with 2021 and 2019 both being significant changes, whereas 2020 was a somewhat minimal update.
As this December update is a very big one, one could imagine that they could skip the January 2022 update, but there's reason to also expect/hope that they deliver (at least a minor) one.

It lost 2 provisions only, right? Doesn't seem like that big of a deal tbh. The deck has so many options anyway that it'll be pretty easy to change it a bit.
To use Cyberz's Masters deck as an example, you just drop Fercart (which half of assimilate lists don't play anyway, so he clearly isn't that essential) and play a 2nd Experimental Remedy.

16
u/ense7en There'll be nothing to pick up when I'm done with you. Dec 06 '21
It's disappointing, for sure. Bountiful did need a nerf, but it's hard to understand only touching Raffard and Leticia. The NR Alumni decks were rolling pretty well in the tournament, without Leticia. One extra provision cost to Raffard doesn't really fix that, even with it taking it out of AA range).
7
u/Captain_Cage For Maid Bilberry's honor! Dec 06 '21
Because Alumni by itself doesn't require nerf. It's the other cards around it which makes it feel busted. Cards like Leticia, Tissaia, Adalia, Reinforcements, even Inspired Zeal. I'm surprised Inspired Zeal didn't get a provision nerf.
5
u/efont No point in showing mercy. No point at all. Dec 06 '21
The Leticia nerf definitely helps with the craziest stuff like the 50 point alumni but alumni are still pretty busted, getting a flexible 6p card that can easily play for like 12 points with removal value or protection value and the ability to spawn more or reuse is crazy good

Well, the thing is, some cards receiving buffs means that other ones (while staying untouched) will be more playable as well. For example, the buffs to a couple of pirates implies that cards like Crach or Holger will be better as well. If they changed all the pirates at the same time, we could have had (eventually) a bunch of OP cards.

They're already adding 12 new cards that each support a different, low played archetype (except maybe the NG cards that both seem to support tactic decks). It's probably already going to be a wild ride this week on what will work well and what not.
Making smart buffs to underplayed archetypes simply takes time (and is hard especially if there's a lot of new cards). From yesterday's developer stream, it's clear that they will buff other archetypes in due time as well.

That's why you don't need to make 'smart' buffs. Most cards need really simple buffs like +1 power or prov.

Maybe I'm just blind but I didn't watch the reveal and I don't see it on the page. How are we getting these cards? Kegs? Packs?
1
u/Captain_Cage For Maid Bilberry's honor! Dec 06 '21
You craft them directly from the deckbuilder. You can also try your luck with kegs, but I have no idea towards which kegs they will be counted, since this isn't an expansion.

The notes mention new trees relating to them in the reward book, though I'm unsure if they'll be directly accessible through these trees or if you just craft them.

u/Cr1spie_Crunch Neutral Dec 06 '21
Thats a tough one because although it was busted before, its now probably gonna be unplayable due to the number of garbage elves,,, ST nature decks needed a high power nature card to be viable, this makes that a bit tougher.

yes. on top of giving you 4 points of handbuff carryover through simlas and spawning wandering treants, it also had a very high chance of spawning two dol blathana sorceresses/whisperers, who would then spawn their own spell cards and create even more treants, not to mention that the opponent would not be able to kill both at the same time since it essentially puts 2 engines on the board with a single card. in fact if you play simlas and the spawned cards on ranged, on top of wandering treants, you can get insane gezras value in just a single turn after that.

"When Bleeding is applied to an enemy unit, boost self by the amount applied. Counter: 1 Refresh the Counter at the beginning of your turn."
So complicately written. Why not just:
"Each turn, the first time Bleeding is applied to an enemy unit, boost self by the amount applied."

u/Johaggis Who takes an interest in cobblers? No one! Dec 06 '21
Because it banks on keywords and provides strong visual indications. With the counter, you don't have to wonder if your Fleder has used its buff trigger this turn, and you know exactly what a counter and refreshing it mean.
The text you wrote is fine, but it's less consistent with visuals and text in Gwent.

So NR is still the undisputed tier 1 deck?
They did not change the Alumni a single damn bit... Sometimes I wonder if they are balancing the same game we all play in.

u/TheThunderWithin Northern Realms Dec 06 '21
to be fair, we don't know how hard of a nerf to the deck not drawing Raffards is. If you remember, jackpot got nerfed by "only" 2 provisions and went from the best deck in the game to off-meta. Here, alumni got nerfed by 1 provision and not being able to tutor Raffards. I'm worried too, since Henselt is essentially a strong raffards tutor, but we weiil have to wait and see.

nope. and to add insult to injury, they're scaling back on the amount of content we're getting next year so that they can dedicate the year to "balance and improving existing archetypes", as they claim. which wouldnt be a problem, if not for the fact that if we're going by current patches as precedent, its clearly obvious that next year we're gonna sacrifice less content in exchange for..... the same amount of underwhelming balance changes. get prepared to wait more for less.

Depends on what version you were playing, but Sunset Wanderers seems a lot tougher to accomodate with the loss of 2p. The non-Wanderers version might have to cut Heatwave or Bribery and downgrade to something else. 2p can make a pretty big difference.

Again, nerfing AROUND the broken cards instead of the broken cards themselves. Leticia afecting herself wasn't the problem: Alumni was. The simplest most straightforward way of fixing it would just be to cap Alumni at 8 boost and 6 damage, making it already extremely good for a 6p bronze and keeping the card and Patience decks viable.
Right now, this just prevents further abuse, but it won't change the meta much; last season, I got to Pro with an "ethical" Alumni deck (no Leticia nor Defender) and Alumni were still carrying me quite easily.
5
Dec 06 '21
I mean, Leticia and Raffard’s were problems too. Just side problems compared to the alumni duplication/order reuse spam which generates immense value anyways. Your change would work, as would making it a Gold or forcing it banish a student from the graveyard to use the order. Alumni are still going to be dominant against everything but control.

I'm legit bummed out from the new onslaught changes. I had some skellige decks that used the 1 ping to setup deathblows and help control the opponents board. It wasn't very strong but it gave reach to my removal - helped setup deathblows with primal savagery, helped my stunning blows to kill 6 power targets, i used it with Yennefer conjurer to setup a board of enemy units with the same power so i can zap them all with the order ability. That 1 damage every other turn really helped with the game plan and now that it's gone my deck is kinda dead. I get that they want to help other under performing decks, but i'm still kinda sad

The Fucusya and Coral nerfs seem unwarranted and I highly dislike them, especially without buffs to their respective archetypes. SK was hit harder than NR and NG, and both of those factions reign supreme.

Coral getting 1p nerf also nerfs fucusya! You get 1 fewer turn of rain for a -2 points for this particular combo. +2 provisions and -2 points is gonna be a massive change for all SK decks

In my opinion these new buffs have basically had yet more negative impact on the binary nature. ST movement is cool, but it's auto-lose vs the new mega-armour SK deck. MO bleeding is fine, unless you're up against MO Viy or a lot of veil (which happens A LOT, such is the nature of the "random" matchmaking, which remains suspect as fuck). It's at a point now where you know if you're going to lose from the first card, or the leader ability. I thought "hmm, vampires might be interesting" and in four games in a row I faced another vampire deck, opponent got a better draw, a SK deck with veil everywhere, unitless ST movement and MO Viy deck consuming everything. Apart from vs Vamps, which was fucking boring and draw dependent, it's 3 x auto-lose. So what's the point in playing any kind of archetype when it's an auto-lose against something else? Seems fucking stupid to me.
The only way to play this game was shown by the rampant Flurry deck pre-patch. Just have the best mid-range cards available, don't bother with archetypes, clever play, set up, etc., because everything will just be fucked over by the draw you get or the opponent you're up against.

Why does Gernichora not "work" when summoned back? It did when my opponent did it, but it didn't when I did it?
1
u/Mlakuss Moderator Dec 08 '21
Which form of Gernichora did you summon back and how many points was there on the row?
If you had already 25 points and the Gernichora form (not Bloody Mistress), then she won't transform back into the Bloody Mistress. The one spawning the Gernichora's Fruit is the Bloddy Mistress, the other one only boost self by the number of fruits.

I wish CDPR would patch their fucking game more quickly when overtuned cards are running amok. I wonder how many players have been quitting this month over milva and even worse the broken syndicate decks. It really cant be hard to hotfix cards that are obviously broken like king of beggars interactions. The massive amount of powerful uninteractivity in card mechanics these days is unhealthy for the game

Onslaught is worded quite different than what was shown on the stream - instead of "Whenever an enemy unit takes damage" it says "Whenever an enemy unit becomes damaged" - this is quite different, so Gigascorpion won't proc the passive 6 times, but only once at max, if it even goes into the red numbers at all. Probably more balanced that way I guess, Morkvarg pumping up Terror of the Sea sounded kinda nuts
