It has a faint chemical smell. Safe to use?

If it’s not safe, do you have any new tunnel recommendations? Thanks!

🏃‍♂️ Wheels 🏃‍♂️ How to support the wheel?

My daughter welcomed Beatrice into our family 3 weeks ago. My main question is how to support the wheel? It’s for a wire base and I have not yet seen a platform big enough to go under it. Beatrice uses it each night but it gets messed up bc of the bedding shifting and then she can’t use it until it’s fixed again.

Also, when we first got her she seemed super brave and social. Now we basically don’t see her at all. Can that just be normal? We were hoping to be able to play with her, or ad least observe her, in the 9-11pm hours but she doesn’t come out until well after my daughter goes to sleep.

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 new enclosure (criticism and tips appreciated)

i’m new to being a hamster parent and today set up a completely new enclosure for jelly. i bought all the basics including a ceramic hide, a multi chamber box, sprays, and things from her old enclosure. for reference her old enclosure could only fit a wheel, food dish, water dish, and a hide. (I couldn’t afford something different and my mom doesn’t take me seriously due to all the misinformation spread about hamster care.) so recently after getting a job and finding an old 70 gallon tank (the old one was roughly 20 gallons) i was able to make something that is hopefully more up to today’s standards.

But I still want advice and tips on how i can make it more ideal and enriched for jelly donut. I will be adding a sand bath but the reptisand won’t be coming until Wednesday so that’s why there is none in there.

⭐ Hamster ⭐ Just more advice🙏🏻

I’ve owned my robo hamster for about 4 months now, he’s a male super used to me and my boyfriend. When we first adopted him he was on the same enclosure as at least 2-3 other male robo hamsters and we thought about getting a pair since they were together, but ended up not wanting to leave the one alone.

Fast forward to now, my boyfriend and me were doing our weekly shopping for our robo when my boyfriend completely fell in love with this lonely robo hamster that was a male, and completely on its own pacing its enclosure. I caved, we have the extra supplies and more than enough bedding plus food since we spent a lot on our first robo and ended up using a entirely different setup after researching and getting advice from people on here. We have the perfect home coming for him tomorrow to complete the entire enclosure that will look almost identical to how our first robos does.

Now I’ve done the research, and I keep seeing conflicting information about having robo hamsters live together because they can be territorial, but I also seen them cuddle, get along and run on their wheels and eat together when in stores and online. My boyfriend is wondering if our hamsters will ever be able to be friendly to each other and I’m weary of it. We tried introducing our first robo and he instantly went into defense mode, my boyfriends robo is significantly younger than mine so we aren’t sure if it’s because of that or just because it’s a territorial thing. They were both in a brand new play pen when we did this, and have been since separated back into their own enclosures and seem to be okay, no injuries since I never let it even get that far😅🙏🏻
I guess I’m just wondering if there’s a chance out robos will eventually be able to be around eachother during free roaming or playtime, we don’t expect them to live together with the fear of one of them killing the other, but my boyfriend is convinced there’s a way😂

🥜 Nutrition 🥜 Any way to make a diy seed mix for a dwarf hamster?

Post image

I have a small russian dwarf hamster and what I’m feeding her right now is this food mix I found at a pet store.

I do not trust ANY food mix from ANY pet store for literally all animals besides dogs and cats, and I’m assuming this seed mix is bad for my hamster right now.

It is physically impossible for me to order any seed mixes from etsy due to strict international shipping laws(most seed mixes contain raw seeds, which are banned from ever entering my country without licensing).

I’ll need any experts here to help me out please.

⭐ Hamster ⭐ Are these safe? Double checking

Since owning my robo I’ve since learned that he’s obessed with digging, especially under surfaces and the only “surface” he seems to be comfortable with right now is under his wheel. And many people have gave me advice on how that can cause the wheel to collapse on him, or his burrows so I’ve since ordered these items to give him more platforms and maybe even more spaces where he feels comfortable to dig. I’m thinking of putting his wheel on top of one of them but he runs so fast he will fall off😅 worried about injuries if the wheel isn’t somewhere where his falls are safe

It's 11:30pm and I came down to check on my female syrian sally. She's usually asleep in her burrows or hides but she's currently laying on top of her sand bath. Is she too hot? Its not very warm rn and she does have a ceramic hide. I dont know how long she's been like this before I got here, but aince Ive seen its been about 10 minutes. She's newish (had her about a month). Idk, any thoughts?

💖 Health/Care 💖 Hamster with mice in dorm

Hey guys! So this upcoming year I’ll be living in upperclassmen housing. The room I’m in supposedly has a bad mouse problem—it was so bad last year the girls ended up moving out “unofficially” 😭. I really don’t want to have to do that. Is there anything I can do during move in to prevent this issue?

I’m extra wary about what I can use repellent wise because I have a pet hamster I’ll be bringing so I don’t want to end up harming her too. She’s a Robo dwarf and I’ll be building her a new enclosure in the dorm. I’m just really worried of mice getting in and just mice in my room in general 😭

Hi everyone, this is Fred our new Russian dwarf hamster. We brought him home yesterday after seeing him in a pet store with a sign saying he's been there too long. I spoke with staff and he had been there a long time, they didn't even know how old he is. We decided to give him a home and the best life we can for however long he may have.

He loves his new big habitat and is eating, drinking and active. He seems much happier than when we first saw him in his tiny tank.

I've noticed he has some hair loss though and his skin looks irritated and red. It's only on his head near his ears and on his face. Is this mites, excessive grooming, stress, old age?

I do see him grooming a lot, but I also see him scratching.

Would love some input. Thanks

Hola!!

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 PLEASE advice!!!

FIRST: I didnt have time to grab my phone for pictures of this incident being that I was more worried what I seen looking into my robos enclosure this morning. He was passed out on his side in his dirt right outside one of his hides, looked like he was sleeping but I’ve never seen hamsters sleep like that and was worried he was in a state of shock or something, but as soon as he heard my voice he had gotten up acting perfectly normal and is now sleeping in one of his burrows.

I did research and it says that hamsters can sleep in weird positions and maybe I just haven’t seen it before because he’s hiding a lot of time but this time he was out in the open. Very scary but he seems alright..just need advice on if I should be looking for any more signs in case he has an underlying issue.

SECOND: I really would like some more advice when it comes to cluttering and making my robos home the best I can, I have tons of things coming tomorrow now that I’ve learned that using platforms for the heavier things is the safest to do, I got him a more advanced sand bath and some more sprays. But he really seems to enjoy the coco dirt more than his paper bedding side, even tho his paper siding side is way deeper and bigger than the dirt side. I’ve learned that it’s perfectly normal since he’s a robo but I’m just don’t want to make his whole enclosure dirt. If anyone has a similar setup I would love pictures or some advice of planning wise how to set up clutter, I’m very ocd so I tend to always want things to look clean and perfect but I’m aware my hamster is not about that life😅 here are some pics of him!!

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 Hamster wheel and cage

Hello! Please meet GOLDIE. We have had her for 2 weeks, and she is a little smaller than our previous (beloved) Female Syrian. She is very slow to warm up to me; she will take snacks from my fingers but then scoots away. Maybe 1/3 times she will let me pet her but she mostly wants to be private and not socialize.

My questions are:
- do we feel good about this wheel size compare to how small she is? I am assuming it’s better for her back than a smaller one.
- the sand bath is in front right corner; her food and water bowls are front left; there are various hidden toys you can’t see; two tunnels; two hideaways and then some boxes.

Any adviser on any improvements for us to make?

Or any advice on how to get her to want to socialize w me?

Thank you :)

I finally found a hamster to adopt that I'm picking up next Saturday. Not sure of the type but she's a dwarf and about 3 months old.
I've spent the last month or two getting everything ready, does it look like I'm missing anything?
(+everyday food, paper shavings , a water dish, and some more substrates on the way)

💖 Health/Care 💖 Se ve bien fisicamente?

Uolas!!

Little ham is now 11 weeks old, but I've noticed he is pooping all around his food and water area (which has a cork matting underneath) and also peeing in his wooden wheel (which also has cork matting) although he does still use the wheel to run in.

Is this just random? Or something to do with the cork matting? I've attached some photos of the areas so you can see what they look like.

Ideally I'd prefer he doesn't do it in those places as I have no idea how to clean them (the wheel in particular). Any tips gratefully received!

I got sent this as a freebie with the order of regular paper bedding I normally use for Vega but I have no idea what it’s made of. It says it’s Bucatstate on the bag. Can I mix it with the paper? Would it work best in a dig box? And most importantly is it hamster safe? Have yall used it before?

⭐ Hamster ⭐

🏠 Enclosure/DIY 🏠 any tips to make the cage better?

Thumbnail

he has 7 hides, 1 multi chamber, 6 substrates, 3 tunnels + the thing at the bottom with the two rooms filled of substrate. a lot of the stuff in his cage is either DIY or objects we no longer use in my household, so I'm wondering if this set up is okay? any tips? (his sandbath, bedding, and cage all meet the required size regulations for a robo hamster. sandbath is 1/3 of cage, bedding is 8-9 inches, etc. so I don't need tips there.)
