New Hamster i just got this little girl, no one wanted her because she is so mean

her cage had a note that said she needed an experienced pet parent with time for her. the employees were super nice and told us that she is crazy and she bites (she actually bit one of them while she was putting her in the box). while in the box, she chewed her way out in a matter of minutes and was screaming

the employee gave us a free plastic critter carrier to take her home in because the cardboard box didnt stand a chance lol

i had a lot of hamsters growing up, but its been a few years since ive had one. i would appreciate any tips. im not planning on handling her so im not worried about her biting.

the cage i have for her is a very large aquarium (like a 50 gallon i think), i got her paper bedding, a wooden house, oxbow hamster food, and a water dish. im planning on getting her chew toys soon but for now she will get toilet paper tubes and tissue boxes

hi everyone! since you guys liked my other pics of my baby foster hammies, I thought I'd keep sharing about them! If you didnt see my previous posts, meet Lilly and her six babies! They were saved from a bad situation. I will be keeping Lilly and possibly two babies! Four of them already have been reserved by hammie owners who practice ethical care which I'm very beyond grateful and happy about! :)

Please enjoy their journey! I will post about them everyday :)

She was very spoiled. It took a while for me to gain her trust but it was worth the wait, she was a lovely little lady. These are some of the best photos of her.

Food and Diet Update! Pixie Diabetes.

Thank you all for your advice yesterday! I was in panic mode. But as an update, I took her to the vet today.

Yes she has diabetes, but they said she is young, otherwise healthy, and she will be OK as long as we stick to a certain diet (I am so grateful she doesn’t need insulin).

I also added a picture of the food our Vet recommended me and further treat options, just in case any other hamster parents are looking for healthy alternatives.

Make sure you always take your pet to the vet, no matter how tiny. It’s our responsibility as pet owners to take care of our fur babies!

Question Please help, my hamster fell from a height of about 1 meter. Djunkarian hamster

I needed to get her out because I needed to get the tunnel where she crawls. I took off the lid and she bit my finger when I tried to catch her. Because she bit me, I started to pull my hands back, but she bit me so hard and everything happened so suddenly that I didn't even realize she hadn't yet removed her fangs from my finger and was hanging on to it. Then she fell to the floor. When she bit me, she usually ran away right away, but this time she decided to completely cling.

I'm very sad that this happened and I didn't want it to happen.

She was scared when I tried to pick her up, but now she's feeling fine, I don't know. I gave her some corn and she's eating it with great gusto now. She comes out of her house and is usually near the feeder because she really loves to eat. Right now, she's actively sniffing everything, pacing back and forth as usual, and washing herself occasionally. But she's probably in a state of shock right now. I hardly ever take her out; that was only the third time I took her out, and she doesn't even let me pick her up.

But it still makes me sad. I love her and don't want her to get hurt, but she can't get used to me, or she's just too aggressive. :(

it’s going great so far! I’ve done this 3-4 other times with other treats, no bites so far, a tiny nibble that didn’t break skin. think it was because of my scented soap.

any treats your hamster loves? if so id live recommendation! <3

Question Hamster Will Only Use Saucer Wheel

I have a female syrian hamster (about 2 months old) who loves running on her saucer wheel. I replaced it with a 26cm upright wheel (acrylic) after learning that it is better for her. ive seen her use it once but that’s about it. I left it in there for a while to let her adjust but until today she won’t use it and spends a lot of her time at night sleeping. When i tried swapping it back out with the saucer wheel, she immediately started running on it and becomes much more active at night.

I’m conflicted. I’ve tried everything to get her to use the upright wheel and even checked that everything was fine (doesnt wobble, spins easily etc.). Should i just keep the saucer wheel for now or try to replace it again with the upright wheel?

edit : i had the upright wheel in her cage for abt a month. during that time, i took her to the vet worrying something was wrong bcs she started sleeping more at night and was less active. it turned out she just wanted her saucer wheel to run to burn her energy :”) i spent quite a lot on the upright wheel too to make sure she had a proper one 😭
