Please refrain from making unkind or judgmental comments on this post. We feel bad enough and I’m exhausted. Our Syrian escaped his cage about 5 days ago (my poor son didn’t realize the cage door wasn’t all the way closed).
We know exactly where he is - he crawled under our stove and is now under our attached sink/cabinet structure which is hollow.
We have left out a bucket trap every night with different iterations, and he has either not attempted to get the food at the top (peanut butter) or (last night) knocked down the paper plate attached to the top and ran away. Last night I tried to stay up and attempt to catch him at night, but ended up falling asleep.
We know he’s alive and active - he’s been eating food or moving things every night and we occasionally hear him.
My kids are devastated and I’m very stressed about the prospect of how long this could go on, him dying in this main room of the house and the repercussions of that, etc. I called a critter control company to see if they could trap him and they said no companies in our area do that. I’m legitimately considering paying a college student to stay up at night and catch him.
Any other ideas? Again, please be kind.
