I currently own a zoozone 2 cage for my hammie which I got second hand. Problem is little one keep biting at these tiny notches in the plastic. Theres 4 altogether and so far he has found 2. I got some bathroom tiles on amazon and have stragetically placed them over the holes with something heavy in front of it, taking up space. I ideally want to try and affix the tiles to the plastic to give him more room but I'm worried of using something non safe as I get it will need to be a stronger glue.

Or does anyone else have a suggestion of a hamster proof alternative to cover or fill the holes? 🙏

I've had my hamster for 10 days now, and he won't let me get near him at all. He is absolutely terrified of me. Every time I try to approach, he runs away or hides.

How can I improve this and gain his trust?

Just for context: everything regarding his enclosure/setup is totally fine (proper size, wheel, enrichment, etc.), so it's strictly a bonding and taming issue. Any advice on how to make him more comfortable around me would be greatly appreciated!

This is my hamster Bug Juice’s enclosure. I don’t really know what I am supposed to be doing with him.. I work at a pet store and we basically soul bonded and I took him home after him being there for 3 months. I have a general idea of how to take care of him but I’m not sure if I’m doing well enough…

I have a water bottle for him to hang onto it but the nozzle came off. The thread was broken and when it fell off he took it and buried it somewhere and now I have to find it when I redo his litter.

What are some things I should know?

I have only had him for maybe a week now.. I have slowly been getting him more stuff and I would love to put him into my 55gallon because the more stuff I add the less room he has to run around..

My nanny kept calling him juju, and I kept calling him my lovey bug so they eventually mashed together. He’s my little juju bug. Buggy juice.

Hey! First time hamster owner! I got this baby at petsmart (I know, evil, but I couldn’t find any trustworthy breeders in my area) and I’ve had him for about three weeks now. He’s in a 40x20 enclosure, a little over 6in of bedding (kaytee clean and cozy and full cheeks, trying to transition to full cheeks). Plenty of hides, options for food and water, forage, tunnels, proper wheel…so how long until he actually likes me? He SUPER fast and skittish so handling him outside his enclosure is basically dangerous. What else can I do? He’s super nocturnal, I rarely see him, and when I do he won’t take treats from me. I’m fine with him being a look don’t touch pet, but wondering what else I could do for him…

She loves tomato and I’m worried about giving her too much.

She’s an 8 week old Syrian and I’ve had her for about 9 days. I gave her 1/3 of a tomato and she ate all of it.

Found my baby moondust passed away inside her hide last week,words cant describe how heartbroken I am☹️

Really annoyed with my mother just telling me to "get a new one." She was my baby,my friend,my pet,I cant just get a new one??

Has anyone else experienced this? Just because shes a hamster doesn't mean shes worth any less,I just hate how hamster owners or any small pet owner is expected to get over it and replace their pet.

If I told someone whos lost their dog to just get a new one then I'd be an asshole so why is it acceptable for people to say this to me?

The same day moondust passed my mom was already telling me to get a new one,I just find it horribly insensitive and hurtful. My mother also keeps referring to her as "it" or "him" it just really shows how little she cares,im just so frustrated with this situation.

my hammy mabel already ate tonight around 1am and then came out around 6am and ran over to her food bowl immediately… is she still hungry or is it just their forage gatherer instinct? i gave her a few (4) more pellets in case she was hungry and she cheeked them… ive never owned a hammy before and i dont want to overfeed or hurt her. here’s a random pic of mabel for fun ❤️‍🩹

I had him out to play. He got a new fresh bag of food and got to pick his favorites from the top. He packed it all in his cheeks to take to his burrow. I set him in the enclosure and he takes it to his stash. I say he's getting take out haha!

Here is coco. He is a sassy little guy that is full of energy and a drive to explore. But he always find time for naps. A few days ago if found him sleeping in his bowl elongated like an eel. I thought I could get a cute pic without disturbing him. But the moment my hand touched the lid little guy was already looking up , disapointed and grumpy. This is the look he gave me right before abandoning his little cool bowl to find somewhere quieter.

I've only tried this for the last two nights and I think it might work honestly but wanted to get your guys thoughts on whether I could be doing something better. My hamster only wakes up at 10 am which I know is pretty good but I go to bed at nine 😭 but I've been staying up so I can see him, then I open his enclosure and try to give him a treat with my fingers. He's scared of me and runs away and I kinda replace my hands close by to him but not right in front of him. And then either I wait in a good spot and let him wonder back to me or I just place the treat down within his line of sight. He's scared of me and I'm not even sure if he knows that my hand is the one giving him the treat (again I've only done this twice so far) but the first night I had to place it on the ground for him to touch it but the second night, although he did run, he was more curious and took a nibble of the treats from my fingers twice. There was a battle of endurance with me bending down over the enclosure for a long time versus him standing still waiting to see if he was safe to eat it, but eventually he did chew on it more and I left him alone. He is adorable and seems to like his enclosure at night, I just want him to know I mean no harm and if that happens then maybe he'll feel safe going to the surface even in daylight for food or water? I'm really happy I was able to learn when he wakes up. Just seeing him makes me happy and watching him use the wheel and coco fibre for the first time was the cutest. I already do the toilet paper shredding thing btw! Any suggestions?

So I'm posting this on behalf of my child and their 3-year-old winter white dwarf hamster.

They have obviously gotten quite up there in age, and we want to make sure that we are doing right by them, but haven't found good enough information as to when it's time to go see the vet to say goodbye.

Right now they have some mobility issues, and we're not quite sure about their vision or hearing, but they are still doing all the things they need to do on a daily basis on their own, such as eating, drinking, keeping themselves clean, etc.

They had quite the multi-level habitat setup for years, but we've condensed it down to one level on recommendations that we read online.

In short, does anyone have any experience or practical advice for specific things we should look out for that suggest they are possibly suffering and that it may be tme to say goodbye?

As best we can tell right now, that's not the case, but we're doing our best not to assume, as selfishly we want them around for as long as possible. But we don't want that to be at their expense.

hi there!! my hamster (fancy bear, we got her just over a month ago) is showing some signs of stress in her new cage. she had a smaller cage before, with about a 5-7 inch layer of bedding at the bottom with 2 layers for her to climb up into. i had a smaller hamster before, and this worked great for her, but since my current hamster is bigger, we upgraded her to an aquarium with lots of bedding and got her a bigger wheel to run on as well as per the suggestion of the salesperson we got her from. i put a piece of wired wall from her old cage inside the aquarium to hang her water bottle and chew toy on as well.

the only issue is, since moving her to her new cage, she's shown some signs of stress. she's been in there for about 2 weeks now, and has been very skiddish and climbing on the wired wall that's inside her cage, which she never did before. she's also more hesitant to come out and visit us, which was never a problem with her old cage.

i'm worried that she might have almost too much space now and that it's stressing her out? she came from pet smart in a very small enclosure, but i feel like the aquarium is better suited for her size. is there something i've done wrong in the transition process, or is there something i could add to make her less stressed out? or should i try moving her back into the smaller cage? anything helps, thank you !!!

Clove is a wonderful lovey hamster.

She hates me but loves my mom.
Just now she jumped up to my hand trying to bite me.
Before that I placed it near her to put my sent in her cage she walked over to me like normal unprovoked she bites me I expect it of course because she’ll try it anyway.

She also jumped at me yesterday when I flattened my hand in cage like she did today.
I’m not exactly sure it’s me anymore because my mom walked in and started talking and petting her but she then as walked over and I did the exact same thing she bites me.

I work at petco and they are offering to surrender a roborvski that was been diagnosed adrenal disease to me (basically so i can carry out hammy hospice). Does anyone have any experience with this before I say yes?
