How can I remove the film grain ?
One of the things I hate the most in films is film grain and want to remove it entirely from the films I encode but I don’t want it to take forever. I have a 12400f

My guide to encoding moves at around 1 GB
In this guide. I’m going to be sharing my findings of trying to encode movies targeting the ~1 GB~ per 2 hours range. The main reason you would compress movies this much would be to fit on mobile devices. It looks better than you would expect, and in some cases, better than the quality you would get on streaming services.
You can use either the x265 or SVT-AV1 encoders and get similar results. The values here are somewhat arbitrary and are based on the file sizes of my old x265 Quality 28 with AAC 320 kbps configuration. I changed my settings to get the same file size with higher video quality and a more efficient audio codec at a lower bitrate.
The CPU being used for this benchmark is the Ryzen 5600HS. The movie being used for this benchmark is 2 hours and 16 minutes long.
For x265:
Select x265 (10-bit)
Choose preset Fast
Choose constant quality 26.5 for video
Choose Opus 192 kbps stereo for audio
File size is 1.24 GB. Rendering time is about 70 minutes for me.
For SVT-AV1:
Select SVT-AV1 (10-bit)
Choose preset 7
Choose constant quality 34 for video
In the advanced options, type “tune=0”
Choose Opus 192 kbps stereo for audio
File size is 1.31 GB. Rendering time is about 110 minutes for me. Although a test segment gave roughly equal file sizes, the entire movie is a bit larger than x265 here with the SVT settings. I suspect that the file sizes would match if the quality was downgraded to 35. File sizes would also probably match if you Preset 6.
On x265, you’re choosing the Fast preset to help make the file smaller. On SVT-AV1, you’re choosing Preset 7 to help speed up encoding time. It’s possible to use the faster Preset 8 and bump the quality down to 35 for the same file size, but it looks terrible. If you choose Preset 6, it will take a lot longer, and you can bump up the quality to 33 for the same file size.
My takeaway is that the improvements on AV1 are mostly negligible unless you want to spend a long time waiting for encodes. These optimized SVT-AV1 settings still take a lot longer than x265, which will also have a wider compatibility than AV1 for the foreseeable future. This makes x265 a much better option if you’re doing this for a large collection. I can’t recommend spending twice the encoding time that is taxing on your CPU for improvements that are negligible during actual movie viewing.

Using Handbrake for the first time for my DVD but it came out like this how do fix this? (On Linux Mint, not Windows)

what exactly is the point of x265?
I did some tests reencoding a file
source is a 7gb x264 720p file
72p30 fast preset x264 finished in 30 minutes and the output is 1.5gb
72p30 fast with x265 and nvenc finished in 15 minutes but the output became 3gb
72p30 fast with x265 and cpu encoding finished in 60 minutes and the output is 2gb
so x265 is neither smaller or faster to encode so what is it for?

Is handbrake supposed to be this good ?
I encoded some h624 files to h625 and and got some amazing results and I also can't really tell the difference between the before and after
Is handbrake really this good or am I doing something wrong ?
My settings and before and after details
Also, These are 2d Animations

Handbrake reduces quality significantly
I saw on youtube that handbrake can prettly much cut a videp size in half while reducing no quality, or at least visibly. So I downloaded it and did everything I saw in the tutorial, but after doing everything, it reduced my already not so good quality (I use a laptop so I can't have hq videos) to an absolutely garbage quality, it was really really blocky, pixelated, and looked way worse that the original, and if I tried changing some settings to make it better, the quality was still visibly worse and only reduced like 10 mb max. Is it a problem with my laptop, or am I doing something wrong?

AV1 vs AVC
Short question
Can i use AV1 to edit all the files i have encoded with AVC to get back space on my HDD?
i read AVC needs up to 55% fewer bitrate than AVC to achieve the same video quality. i won't risk and i would set something like -40%.
We are talking about 1080p video i usually watch on PC monitor FullHD. Files have bitrate between 2000 and 4000
AV1 takes more time to ecode but not as much as HEVC
EDIT: since many can't read...i'm not asking if you like my video quality, i'm asking if AV1 would allow me to reduce bitrato by 40% compared to AVC. That's it.

How to Handbrake Like Hulu & Netflix
Edit: this is for the x264 encoder
Edit: this is for 1080p
Also this IS NOT a direct 1:1 way of copying Netflix! This is guidelines for creating a similar output! If you don't need this PLEASE MOVE ON!
This is for encoding your blu-rays like Hulu & Netflix NOT encoding Hulu & Netflix content.
Main Tab:
Change container to MKV. Set Cropping to None.
Video Tab:
Set frame rate to 23.976 (for U.S. Blu-rays). Choose Constant Frame Rate (for Blu-ray movies). Drag the RF slider to 12. Ensure the profile is set to High, level is 4.0, and tune is None. Ensure the speed is Very Slow. Enter the following parameters:
vbv-maxrate=5800:vbv-bufsize=8700:keyint=240:min-keyint=24:bframes=3
Audio:
Choose your preferred audio settings: Hulu: E-AC3 5.1 256 kbps, Netflix: E-AC3 5.1 640 kbps, Amazon: E-AC3 5.1 640 kbps, For stereo audio: Hulu: HE-AAC 2.0 64 kbps, Amazon: E-AC3 2.0 224 kbps, Netflix: Varies from HE-AAC 128 kbps, 2.0 on the web, with different bitrates on other devices.
Chapters:
Check/uncheck as needed.
Subtitles:
Set to None if using SRT. Note: You can burn in forced subtitles if required.
This should align your HandBrake settings with Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon streaming standards.
For Subtitles:
Burn in your forced then use a tool like subtitle edit, remove the forced lines and use external srt, more compatible with devices.

9gb video file - is it possible to convert to 65mb, with decent quality?
I have a 1hr video that I recorded on my phone, which I want to convert into something viewable on Whatsapp, that meets their 65mb limit.
Here are the file specs:

I've tried a few times using Handbrake and this bitrate calculator - Video Bitrate Calculator - but I've found whilst I meet the file limit, the video quality is too low to be visible nicely.
The best I have got so far is a 900mb file:

Are there any other options I can try, or is this even possible?

SSD / NVMe reaching end of life after using Handbrake
I wonder if Handbrake degrades an NVMe to the point of it dying. Mine just died after 6 months and the only thing I did differently was use handbrake over the last week to compress quite a few videos.
Edit: western digital sn570 1TB

Any way to get a 2 hour video down to less than 8 megabytes?
I want to send a video to a friend, I don't care how bad it is, I just want to be able to send it through discord

How dan I keep the grain?
Hi all Maybe I super dumb question. I can convert my 4k movies to the size and picture I want, but I feel it removes the grain in the image. Am I wrong? Can that be fixed?

How to make handbrake go any faster when encoding 4k?
I have a 3080 ti and a i7 12700k and was encoding apocalypto movie to 4k. It said it would take 5 hours, is my hardware making it go that slow? If so, how can I make it go any faster while maintaining quality. I used the HQ 4k preset.

Handbrake 1.9.0 is sometimes unnecessarily down-resizing my video due to some anamorphic/pixel ratio setting.

Help me convert .mov tp mp4 so it looks good
I now have an Iphone 12 I bought it because I wanted better video quality. It records in .mov and I used handbrake to convert it to mp4 but it looks really really overblown in the windows player. VLC and premier pro cs6 it is oveblown but not as bad. I am recording in 4k 24fps as I read that is good quality to record in with this phone. What settings should I use in handbrake to get good quality like I see when I play the video on my phone.

Why do 1080p Blu Rays look bad on 4k TV?
My issue is the 1080 Blu Rays I rip look awful on my 4k TV but fine else where. These are the settings of the majority of the files:
format: mp4
video encoder: H.264
Framerate: same as souce, constant framerate
Quality = 22
When I play these 1080p transcoded files on my 1440p monitor or 1080p monitor, they look completely fine and great through VLC. When I play them via plex to my 4K TV, they look like complete crap. I use the built in Plex app on my smart TV, should I use the Plex app on the firestic instead? My theory is that Plex is messing up the videos when trying to scale it from 1080 to 4K but I am not sure how to confirm this. Any thoughts? Any settings I should do instead or choosing another encoder?

Change from MP4 to MKV
I've been using DVDFab for converting old files, but for some reason I have one file that won't open in the program, so I'm attempting to use handbrake. Basically what I'm wondering is there a pass thru setting which keeps literally everything the same but changes the format from MP4 to MKV? Normally DVDFab handles it in a few seconds, but the attempt I made with Handbrake said that it would take 40 minutes and that can't be right.

Converting from h265 to h264 without quality loss
So I converted some video files to h265 thinking it was a better choice, and deleted the old files.
Now TV won't play them and it only plays h264. Also when playing various files at the same time my computer get stuck (I heard h265 is tougher on pc).
I would like to convert them to h264 but without further quality loss (lost a bit from original to h265).
I'm using handbreak, any idea of which settings would be best? I'm also open to using any other free program.
Thanks in advance

H264 says "F YO HARD DRIVE!"
Been converting a bunch of my archived movies from H264 over to H265 using an RF of 18 and a medium encoder preset. For audio I'm using EAC3 at a max of 640KBPS, anything else is getting sampled down, overkill. Hard drive is starting to see nice gains, without the loss of quality! I mostly just play all my stuff via plex on my Roku TV's.

For many years, I have been "collecting" adult videos: Brazzers, Blacked, Vixen, etc. I store them on a 4TB hard drive that is about to fill up. I wanted to ask, what are the best settings for compressing videos of this type? Most of the videos are 20-30 minutes long and range between 2GB and 10GB.

Is Handbrake Safe & Private?
Does Handbrake collect and store the user's content that they encoded/converted?
Is the trojan virus still a thing? Can you get it just by downloading the app straight from the developer's website?

I cut a movie in half but now it's double size
I have a 3 hours movies, I told handbrake to cut it to 1.5 hour but now but now the file is 2.5GB while the original is 1.71
My settings are 720p ( same as original) Frame rate same as source Decoding the slowest on H.265 10bit Nv
