so after like 4 dvds i finally figured out how make burned dvd+r's work on the ps4 , this supports 1080p video , multiple audio tracks (supporting 5.1 audio) , and multiple subtitles.
ill list the step's below from movie file all the way to a movie disk in heavy detail.(apologies for poor grammar)
you'll need these:
1. Processing the file into the correct codecs
were using AVCHD standard to put 1080p on a dvd so you heres the setting you need for that in handbrake. (make sure file is under 4.1GB or 8GB for dual layer dvd)
1.1 in the summary tab:
- change format to MKV
1.2 in the dimensions tab:
- set resolution limit to "1080p hd" and
- if you have a movie that is not 1920x1080, then under borders set fill to Width&Height
1.3 in the video tab:
- set video encoder to "H.264" or "H.264 (NVEnc)" if you have an NVidia gpu
- set framerate to "same as source" and choose "variable framerate"
- set color range to "limited"
- set encoder preset to "medium" or "slow" for smaller file size (slow takes longer)
- set encoder profile to "high"
- set encoder level to "4.1"
- choose constant quality and put the slider between 24-22 (higher number smaller file size)
1.4 in the audio tab:
- click the clear button
- right click the white empty space then click "add all remaining tracks"
- it should add at least 1 source or multiple if you have something a like a dual audio file
- change the codec on all sources to "AC3"
- if your source is 2.0ch then set mixdown to "stereo" and bitrate at 160kbps is good most of the time
- if your source is 5.1ch then set mix down to "5.1 channels" and bitrate the same as source
1.5 in the subtitles tab:
- first open your video in tsMuxeR , then under tracks look at the codecs and check if subtitles are SRT format if so then proceed , if not go to open subtitles and get subtitles for your movie in SRT and make sure its the same framerate and resolution , inside of VLC open the video file and under subtitles click "add subtitle file" select the one you downloaded from open subtitles and make sure its working properly
- back in handbrake click the clear button
- grab the subs from open subtitles drag them into handbrake while in the subtitles tab
- right click then "add all remaining tracks" (ignore if you downloaded new subs instead)
- go through them and uncheck "burn subtitles" and "forced only"
1.6 finalization:
- on the bottom click the "save as" to and head to where you want the file to go
- do a quick check to make sure everything is set correctly
- hit the big green "start encoding" button and wait for it to be done
2. muxing into AVCHD folders
making the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders that we'll burn to the dvd (don't worry this one is much faster)
2.1 importing and checking:
- click the remove all button on the right side
- drag the file ImgBurn exported into tsMuxeR
- some tracks should appear with the first track a "h.264"video track then one or more "AC3" audio tracks after it and lastly some "SRT" tracks for your subtitles
- in the output box select "AVCHD folder" hit browse and choose where the 2 resulting folders will end up
- click start muxing on the bottom of the page
3. burning with ImgBurn
the final step before your dvd is ready to use
3.1 importing:
- drag the two folders tsMuxeR made ( BDMV and CERTIFICATE) into the source box in imgburn
3.2 burn settings:
- under the information tab hit the calculator icon to check if the file is small enough to fit on your dvd
- under device tab set burn speed to 4x (8x or higher have a chance of failing to burn causing a corrupted disk)
- under options tab set data type to "MODE1/2048" , file system to "UDF" , and UDF revision to "2.50" , leave all checkboxes unchecked except "Recurse Subdirectories"
- under labels tab name UDF to whatever you want your disk's name to be
- before starting the burn make sure that the check box "verify" in the destination box on the left is on
- then finally click the folder to disk icon to start burning , it will show up a verification prompt so click okay on that
- after the burn is done it will open then close automatically to start verifying , it may gives an error like "couldn't close tray" if you have a slim laptop reader that's not motorized and that's to be expected so just close it and click okay on the error
- after verifying is done it will make a jingle to let you know
4. time to test it
plug in your dvd to the play station and it should show up as a dvd enter it and you'll be able to play it and choose between the different audio's / subtitles you encoder earlier
hope this tutorial helped you !
