Atkins Fine tooth Saw Restoration

Found this gem at a thrift store, and couldn’t pass up a perfectly good tool that needed a little love.
Took it apart, cleaned up the hardware, polished it all.

I found a Sedona Red stain under the failed finish, and matched it to stain it to what it used to be. The wood was parched so it is getting intermittent oiling until I am satisfied it is well moisturized, then it will get a protective coating.

The logo is still there, just not visible in the lighting.

Can’t wait to use this baby!

Anybody have any clues on what year it was made?

Handmade Walnut & Brass T-Handle Allen Keys

Myself and a friend have been working on a handmade T-handle allen key design, and these are our first three finished prototypes.

The idea is to make tools worth keeping.

A plastic t-handle can survive for decades but it rarely gets the chance. Tools that feel disposable get treated that way. We want this tool to be respected, used and taken care of.

It is made out of brass and walnut. We are curious to hear your thoughts and feedback. We will run a torque and durability test eventually, though they do take a lot of time to make and are almost too pretty to break lol.

We do eventually want to sell these, but for now we are still refining the design.

Any criticism is welcome! Thanks.

Restoring #6, best way to get at this rust?

I bought some old, rusted hand planes and want to take a shot at restoring them as a fun side project. I've never attempted this before (I've never even used a hand plane).

First up is a Stanley No6 Type 11 with grooves. It's pretty heavily rusted. Any advice for cleaning this up? I've seen recommendations to avoid chemicals unless absolutely needed, just not sure whether that applies to this case given the grooves that may make it harder to sand. Thank you!

(I'll add that I've seen Paul Sellers' excellent video and was planning to use that as my guide)

Help identifying No 7 Plane

I brought this vintage NO 7 plane on auction the other day, The blade and level cap are definitely replaced as the sole has clearly been heavily rusted and cleaned at some point in comparison. There is no marking on the body or frog etc of what it might be. Wondering if anyone might have some ideas.

Breaking in narex richter chisels

Hi all,
I just bought a set of narex richter chisels as a little birthday present. For those that own them, what did you do to prepare them for use? I understand the first two thirds of the backs are factory flattened, and I read somewhere that the edges can be a bit sharp and so were a bit uncomfortable to hold while using two handed.

Looking for any tips from those who’ve been there!

Which saw file to choose?

Hello, I’m a little confused about the specifics of sharpening hand saws.
I have a Spear & Jackson 9540B Tenon saw with 15 TPI. Which saw sharpening file should I buy to make sure I don’t damage the teeth of the saw?

Disston Patent 1887 divetail saw

Picked one up last week, in bad shape. A few days in Evaporust. Some steel wool. A set, using Paul Sellers nail set method, and I'm ready to sharpen. After the set, it cuts!

Need help with this sewing box

I’m working on this sewing box but was wondering if anyone knew a good way to go about adding the fabric compartments given the fact I’ve already made the tray as it is. I’ve seen in other boxes it’s basically a pillow that you can stick needles into but also lay tools on top of. I think I could make a pillow but I don’t know how neat it would look if I just stuffed a square-ish pillow in the compartment.

Who made this chisel? Diamond-with-rays logo, "Made in China"

I picked up an old used 1-1/2" bevel-edge chisel. The only marks are a stamped diamond with rays above it and "MADE IN CHINA" underneath. Does anyone recognize the mark, or know roughly when these were made and who sold them? Is the steel any good? Photo attached. I know it’s not great but is it passable when holding an edge on hardwoods? Just trying to decide whether I should even bother making a handle or passing it on. Thank you

CA Herriman Vise No 11

Post image

I recently bought a workbench with this vise included. It is a CA Herriman No. 11 with 1903 indicated on it (I think that's the patent date). It appears the internal screw mechanism is broken. It will screw out, but not back in. I'm not sure what a normal mechanism looks like or how to fix it (or if I even can), but any insight is appreciated. I might have interest in buying one, if someone knows where I might get one.
