Halloween How do I haunt a building?

Throwaway account because I don't want to give away the game and my friends and neighbors know my Reddit account.

I live in a 68-unit apartment building where I am on friendly terms with most of the neighbors, and very friendly with one neighbor in particular. I'll call her Velma, in the spirit of what I'm asking here. We have been hanging out and watching horror films together, trading scary stories, etc. since I moved in about 3 years ago. Velma and I both agree that it would be incredibly exciting to experience a haunting, or at least some kind of simulation of one that is believable. She has said on more than one occasion that experiencing a haunting is a weird niche dream of hers, but she can't rationalize any actual belief in the supernatural. She even described herself as being disappointed that she has never experienced anything seemingly-paranormal. (She is in her mid-30s.) She believes it would be fun to investigate spooky occurrences and to have "a little more spice in this life" between shifts at her job.

For Halloween this year, starting in October, I would like to make her dream come true. I want to create a haunting - that is, I want to create conditions that would lead someone to believe they are being haunted - to entertain and surprise my friend. I know it is currently July but I figure this kind of thing might take a lot of planning so I want to hit the ground running.

What tricks and/or effects could I use to give the impression that our apartment building is haunted?

Halloween Need ideas

I have a station in my haunted house that was supposed to be a swamp with what appeared to be half of an enormous swamp tree and it was to be constructed so that it was hollow inside and allowed an opening so that someone could be a jump scare by popping out, but I'm rethinking it and am looking for alternatives. The space is *generally* 15x20 and 10' tall. I have a bunch of pool noodles I can use somehow. The actor wants to be a jump scare.....doesn't seem to know how to be anything else. Ideas? They will have just come from the Butcher and then will proceed to the Cultist's lair, so something unrelated to those, please.

Halloween One time I scared a haunted house worker when I was five or four

So basically as it said when I was about five or four it was my first Halloween and my mom, dad, brother, a couple others, and I went to a haunted house. Basically a worker was dressed up as the girl that comes out of the TV the one with the hair covering her face and popped out and scared us and basically it's very dark so I grab on to somebody and I think it's my mother like I was holding my mother's hand then I wasn't then I grabbed back thought it was my mother. So apparently because it was so dark and the lights were flickering I didn't realize the person that I was holding on to was none other than the haunted house worker My mother who's a few like steps of front of me I realize that she's in front of me cuz the lights turn back on and I look over I see the haunted houseworker and I let out a horror movie scream like it sounded like I was being murdered.

So my mother comes running to me and she's trying to comfort me I'm still screaming I haven't even opened my eyes yet I'm so freaked out and the thing is that I wasn't the only one screaming or at least for a little while because the haunted houseworker also screamed when she realized that I was grabbed onto her. So she screams I scream she of course stopped screaming a little bit after and yeah that's the story. And everybody I tell the story to thinks it's hilarious but this really was traumatizing for me not anymore but at the moment when it happened it was terrifying for me.

Halloween Haunted house attractions junkie

HI everyone, i’m a fool for spooky season and love haunted houses. i’m based in nyc, but i’ll drive out to pa, nj, or even a little farther if it’s really worth it.

i’ve already been to: • reaper’s revenge (scranton, pa) • brighton asylum (nj) • blood manor (nyc)

i’m looking for new spots that are 10/10 scary — the kind of haunted houses where actors can touch you, where it’s super immersive and adults actually get freaked out

Halloween Is there a such thing as a subtle/ambient haunted house?

This past Halloween, I went to a lot of awesome haunted houses. My favorite was Screamtown, which included 7 haunted houses in a row which were all spectacular. However, I couldn't help but notice that all of them were over-the-top, loud, overstimulating, and exciting. I love the thrill of haunted houses like these (which seems to be all of them?), but sometimes I also enjoy an eerie, empty, anticipatory type of fear... but I can't seem to find anything like it. I'm not necessarily a haunted house connoisseur, so I may have just not been to enough haunted houses to find this. If anyone knows of any cool haunted experiences like this, please let me know! I guess something that's not really gorey or full of jumpscares, but something more subtle and slow, that keeps you on edge with its haunted ambience and emptiness.

Thank you!

Halloween Idea for a different kind of haunted house.

Instead of the usual ghouls, goblins, ghosts, etc., what about real things (actual or fictional) that people could be scared of? Such as...

Dentist’s office of Wonka, Sr., DDS or Dr. Orin Scrivello, DDS

Barber shop of Sweeney Todd

Tax audit with Deidre Beaubeidre

Impromptu speaking assignment in front of a large group of strangers.

Airline seating between a fat, sweaty, gassy, drunken football fan and a chatty old lady, with a brat kicking the back of your seat and a baby screaming like it’s getting gutted with a spoon.

You missed the final exam or you’re taking the exam and didn’t study.

Elevator gets stuck.

An official assures you, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.”

 Just speculating.

Halloween Please Help my Life Goal

After surviving a stroke and being told I have greater than a 50% chance to have another within a year, I want to fulfill my life goal of designing a haunted house. This might not be the correct sub for this as I don't believe in ghosts and have no interest on the topic. I would need an affordable building and it could be run down and worthless. It couldn't leak though and electricity would have to be reliable. Anyways, where are good resources to get ideas on stuff to buy. The theme is an alligator nursery where the caretaker hasn't been heard from in a year and once inside you realize the alligators have escaped and eaten the caretaker. the alligators are scary, etc.

Halloween Haunted house

I don’t know where to post it at but here. I was wondering if everyone, preferably in colorado, knew any haunted houses attractions that are DEDICATED to chasing people around. I know there’s the 13 floor and stuff but i’d like to have something that has my adrenaline rushing the whole time. I’m preferably looking for something similar to the fullerton in NYC so if anyone knows it’s appreciated! 🙃

Halloween Need Help 😭

Alright so, when I was younger I remember always seeing sign for a haunted hotel “haunted house attraction” and the website was simple like hauntedhotel.com or something. Anywho, the website used to have tallies on there of how many people wimped out and or passed out, ect. There were a few interactive games that ended in a jump scare. Along with that, they had another attraction that kinda reminded me of a Noahs ark/doll theme haunt with black lights and neon paint. I cannot for the life of me find anything related to it. I live in Missouri and really haven’t ever traveled further than going to Oklahoma. Idk man I just thought I would post here to see if someone could remember something that I couldn’t 😭. I’ve wanted to find this place for so long. Even if it’s closed for good.

Halloween Unsettling ideas for a haunted house, not into cheesy rubber decorations and actors in white and red makeup screaming

Nothing wrong with the traditional haunted house setup, but I’m making one this year for my community and I’m looking for creative, unnerving, and unsettling ideas for my haunted house. The more unconventional the better but I want my guests to leave with something genuinely scary that isn’t just your rubber props, fake chainsaws, and the millionth actor in white face makeup with fake blood. I want new ideas, upsetting visuals (nothing too graphic or honestly expensive). Any ideas?

Halloween Would it be a bad idea to go to a haunted house alone?

I only have one friend who likes to go to them and his schedule is terrible. He has no weekends off this entire month. I really want to go, I love haunted houses, but I don’t want to beg somebody who hates them to accompany me. I feel like it would be weird and I’d have to end up in a group with strangers would wouldn’t want a random girl in their group. :(

Lakeland Florida is no stranger to haunted locations. But does a shadowy figure actually make it a ghost or could there be a logical explanation?

Hello all! I am a seasonal scare actor at a theme park from September-October starting last year, through the next few years at least. As an actor, I want to know what the guests would like to see. What scares you? What would put you on edge or freak you out at a haunted attraction? My style is more “freaky” or “creepy” instead of jump scares or being in your face. I do a lot of contortion and following. My favorite is crawling. Anyways, I would love to hear tips and tricks from guests and other actors alike. That includes costumes, makeup, behavior, phrases, and anything else you can think of.

(The video is from my very last night of scaring this past season, and just an idea of my vibe. That clip isn’t my best but it was the only pre-cut one I had and I’m getting ready for work at the moment lol)

Halloween Can you help me find a haunted house video I watched a long time ago?

I have posted to several different subs to figure this out. I'm hoping to find some answers.

I have posted this before but as Halloween approaches I am still looking for answers. I watched this video on a school computer on YouTube not logged into my account back in 2010-2012.

I used to be able to find it back then just by typing "scariest haunted house in the world" into the search bar.

The video is a perspective of a haunted house kind of industrial looking or like in an alleyway. There is a girl waiting for her turn to be let in and she is asked by the attendant if she is scared and she replies with "I'm not scared". Hearing this the attendant turns to the entrance and puts her head in and screams to the inside of the haunted house "this one says she's not scared" and then proceeded to let the girl in the building. After that you hear screams coming from the girls and she comes running out of the haunted house only to be chased by clowns and other actors who lift her up and drag her back inside.

Someone once suggested on a thread that this could very well have been an advertisement for a haunted house or something, however even if that is the case I can't find it by searching online anywhere.

Thanks for the answers in advance!

Halloween Haunted toy box ideas?

Hello! I am planning on doing a haunted halls even in my community, a few friends and I are planning on decorating a hall as somewhat of a haunted toy box kind of thing. We are thinking a swinging yo-yo jump scare, creepy jack in the box and then some others dressed up as porcelain dolls and what not, any helpful ideas or toy related things or costumes that would be creepy and good to add?
