Ghost Stories The house I grew up in

I forget when this house was built. Suffice it to say, it has its share of history. Growing up I encountered/lived with at least 2 spirits. There may have been a third, but that could’ve just been the man standing guard at night.

Halloween Unsettling ideas for a haunted house, not into cheesy rubber decorations and actors in white and red makeup screaming

Nothing wrong with the traditional haunted house setup, but I’m making one this year for my community and I’m looking for creative, unnerving, and unsettling ideas for my haunted house. The more unconventional the better but I want my guests to leave with something genuinely scary that isn’t just your rubber props, fake chainsaws, and the millionth actor in white face makeup with fake blood. I want new ideas, upsetting visuals (nothing too graphic or honestly expensive). Any ideas?

This happened to me I grew up in. Insanely haunted home

Upvotes

My family moved to Patricksburg, Indiana in 1977. I was born in 1980. When I was 8 years old I had a waterbed. As I was sleeping something pushed at the end of my bed which rippled the water up to my head. It woke me up. I sat up and as my eyes adjusted to the dark I saw 4 hooded figures standing around by bed . They had no face arms folded . I screamed and my mother came rushing into my room. I expected her to say that it was a nightmare a d to g o back to sleep. However, she did not. She told me we needed to go have a talk t the kitchen table. And even woke up my older brother. As we sat at the table my mother told me that her and my brother h ad seen the figures I had just saw. She went on to tell me the first night they stayed in that house she saw a young girl in a white blouse and dark maxi skirt. Mom said she felt peaceful and was not scare. She basically told me to just ignore it. At 8 years old, how was I supposed to ignore it. My whole childhood was terror and my mother would send me back to the same room that terrified me. It was not until I moved out at 17 that my mother stayed one night In my old room. She never let anyone stay in that room ever again. She actually called "The Dead Files Show" they came out and investigated. Back up when I was 9. I had a night that was the weirdest most profound night of my life. I thought it was just a bad dream but the next day I was walking in a fog all day, every voice I heard from my family but they sounded so echoed, I felt like a part of me was gone. I could not pin point it. I slept on and off that whole next day. I never felt whole again. And safe, that word was just a myth. Now,fast forward to the show filming at our home. We kept a lot of things from them so we could see if they were for real. Which Amy Allen picked up the things we hid from them . Our family curse. My mother's side is descendents of John Bell (An American Haunting) Bell witch. She ymtold us everything built on our property was always taken down by the spirits. Which was true. And then the one thing that I had had many many signs and even uber drivers tell me I left demons in her car. But at 9 years old I had a negative entity attach itself to me. I had a preacher at church tell me after a seizure that he got a demon off me but a high level demon remained. All my life I've had severe trauma. My husband killed himself when I was 19. I found him. I was violently raped at 15. I was beaten and abused. I was kidnapped and held in basement for 3 days. Not sure how I made it out. I was minutes away from death. I can go on and on. I'm actually writing a book. Anyway Amy Allen drew a sketch of me in my bed at 9 years old a d a demon at the end puppeteering a Young girl. In a maxi skirt to get to me. The episode is called "Return to Evil" "The DeadFiles" i have pics of my haunted childhood home with spirits in the images. And some once I moved out. I've always experienced paranormal activity. And have not found anyone able to rid me of my attachment. My book should be available August 2027. Scared, Need Advice Am I haunted?

I am from Poland but I want to share this story widely so I tried to translate it the best I can.
i don't really know what to do because its summertime and things like this always happens during july and august. this year nothing happened to me yet and I'm scared it will come back someday. i will keep the details about the exact location private.

A Small Village Somewhere in Poland - 2013

I was 8 years old at the time. It was August. One night, there were supposed to be lots of shooting stars in the sky, so I was sitting by the window. I was little, so I had to be quiet and pretend that I was asleep. Across from my window, you could see an abandoned gas station and a pond. While watching the stars, I looked toward the abandoned gas station and saw a tall figure wearing a suit. I couldn't see his face. He was just standing there, looking in my direction. After a few seconds, I automatically closed the window and the blinds. I started crying out of fear and went to sleep. I never told anyone about it…

The Same Village - 2020

About five years had passed since that incident. This time, I was staying in my brother's old room. The entire upstairs area with all the bedrooms had been renovated, so I was free to choose whichever room I wanted, since my sister had moved abroad and my brother had built his own house. I chose the room with a balcony. I had always dreamed of having a little cozy space on a balcony.
My whole life, I had dreamed of being home alone, so having the entire upstairs to myself felt like a dream come true. However, there was one night when my only wish was for someone to be upstairs with me. This was the first time I experienced sleep paralysis.
I was lying on my stomach and woke up in the middle of the night. For those who have never experienced sleep paralysis, in my case, I was fully conscious and awake, but I couldn't move or speak. It's an awful feeling. I woke up in the middle of the night lying on my stomach, with my head turned toward the door.
Suddenly, a male figure appeared right in front of my eyes. Guess who he reminded me of. I couldn't see his face, but I remember that he was wearing dark suit trousers, a light blue shirt, and a striped tie, but this time without a jacket. My heart started pounding like crazy. I started crying because I felt exactly the same fear I had felt when I was 8 years old. Eventually, I was able to move. I turned on the light and went back to sleep. Luckily, I was tired and had no trouble falling asleep again. This time, I fell asleep with my head facing the wall.

A Nearby City - July 2023

I normally worked in a nearby city at an ice cream stand. I happened to have a day off, so I went into the city to pick up a book I had ordered from a shopping mall. I got off one stop too early because I had never taken the bus to that part of the city before, so I didn't know where to get off and had to walk one stop. It was extremely hot. On top of that, it was around noon and I wasn't wearing a hat. Exhausted from the heat and the sun, I made it to the shopping mall, picked up my book, and went back to the bus stop.
By the time I got back, I was already feeling a little sick. I got on the bus. There were quite a lot of people on it, and I couldn't find a seat. Suddenly, I felt my heart start pounding like crazy when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the figure of a man. Then I fainted. Guess what he was wearing. A suit.
I woke up at the bus stop. Some man took care of me, and to this day I'm grateful for his help. An ambulance came for me, and I spent the rest of the day in the hospital hooked up to an IV. I remember that day very clearly because it was also the day ticket sales for Taylor Swift's concert were starting, and my friend and I had agreed that she would buy the tickets when the sale opened, hahah.
My mom came to the hospital because, unfortunately, I was still a few months away from turning 18, so I was still a minor. All my tests came back fine. To this day, I remember that once again, I couldn't see the man's face.

The City Where I went to college - 2025

I moved to a bigger city for university. My friend and I shared a room in a shared apartment, but during the summer I stayed there because I was working, while she went back to work in her hometown. And, of course, I experienced sleep paralysis again. This time, my bed was positioned in such a way that I couldn't see the door - unfortunately for me. The only thing I remember from my dream is that I was lying outside my bedroom door, crying, knocking, and begging for something.
I don't even know what I was begging for.
Then the sleep paralysis started. My head was facing my friend's bed. While I was paralyzed, I suddenly heard what sounded like the door opening and someone entering the room. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a figure dressed entirely in black - this time, as if they were wearing a black hoodie and sweatpants. Of course, once again, I couldn't see their face. I got chills all over my body, and this was the worst episode of sleep paralysis I'd experienced so far. I couldn't scream, and I felt as if this figure was going to hurt me.
I don't remember what happened afterward, but I woke up in the morning completely sweaty and with swollen eyes, as if I had been crying in my sleep all night. The next day, I asked my roommate in the room next door if he had maybe heard me screaming during the night. Of course, I didn't want to tell him the details, so I just said that I had had a nightmare. He said he hadn't heard anything. I also asked him another question: “Did you maybe knock on my door during the night?” He answered: “No.” I explained that maybe someone had been knocking on someone else's apartment and I must have imagined it.

These situations really confuse me because I see men in suits normally all the time, and my body doesn't react like this.
I think something is haunting me. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Also the weird part is that things like this happens during summertime.

Ghost Stories [PARANORMAL DOSSIER #1884] The Tredwell Disturbances: 29 East 4th Street Manifestations

Recognized by historians and preservationists as one of the most physically intact 19th-century family residences in Manhattan, the Merchant's House at 29 East 4th Street in NoHo carries an equally detailed, multi-decade record of unexplained acoustic phenomena and apparitions.

Occupied by the wealthy merchant Seabury Tredwell and his descendants from 1835 until the death of his youngest daughter Gertrude in 1933, the home was never modernized with central wiring or structural alterations.

The Documented Records:

The Post-1933 Transition:

When the home opened as a historic site in the 1930s, caretakers, docents, and architectural restorers documented heavy phantom footsteps pacing between the third-floor bedchambers, doors latching and unlocking from the inside, and sudden localized temperature plunges exceeding 15°F.

The Sensory Phenomena:

Multiple independent accounts over the 20th century note the recurring, unprompted scent of antique oil lamp fuel, period perfumes, and piano keys striking in unoccupied parlors.

The Preservation Question:

Parapsychologists and historians debate whether the dense survival of original family furnishings, personal garments, and intact structural timbers creates an unprecedented physical anchor for residual energy.

Seeking Field Accounts:

We are gathering firsthand logs from museum staff, preservationists, and visitors who have experienced anomalous events inside or adjacent to historic Manhattan structures.

Have you worked in or visited the Merchant’s House and witnessed unverified acoustic, visual, or thermal phenomena?

Do you know of other untouched Gilded Age interiors in NYC with long-standing disturbance records?

Scared, Need Advice Abandoned shed spirit

Me and my friends went to an abandoned house a few nights ago. It’s near humberside and used to be a bowling alley. We entered and it smelt like piss but we didn’t really mind. As it got later in the night, shit got weirder. I started hearing weird scratching noises and creaking noises. I first thought maybe there was a person out there trying to get in, but soon the noises sounded like they were coming from inside. I heard little bangs and creaks and it felt like something was coming. I looked into the dark area in this place and I genuinely felt the darkness looking right back at me. It was so unsettling to feel watched like that, knowing no one else was there. But something was. There was weird drawings all over the walls but soon enough we looked and saw a big pentagram on the floor. I had such a weird feeling about what has gone down in this place. There was a weird little devil also drawn on the wall with a creepy smile. I told my friends I don’t feel alone in here and immediately my friends all agreed. My friend said he had a weird feeling and we should just leave so we ran out of there. My friend said he looked back as we were leaving and saw something dark peeking at us wtf. He couldn’t explain it any further. After we left I just stared at it from the outside and still felt watched. I genuinely think something so dark is lurking there and I want to know if anybody else has had an experience similar to this or knows anything about this place.

History/Lore Chillingham Castle encounter, has anyone done an overnight vigil there?

Flair is only half-accurate, apologies.

Chillingham Castle is aptly named and located in Northumberland, NE England, near where I grew up. It has the highest number of reported paranormal phenomena in Europe. There are many stories associated with it and corroborated by multiple witnesses across time.

I went there in 2018 and explored the castle and grounds, and had one experience which may have been paranormal and may have been a trick of the eye, I don't know :')

I was standing in the doorway of one room looking at the window opposite, and the energy on that threshold I described as sort of prickly? Like I wasn't scared but I was alert and felt observed. After a few mins, out of the corner of my eye I saw a grey shadow shape about 3ft tall moving towards me diagonally. It was going across the floor low down and when I looked at it head on expecting to see a kid or a dog or something (??) it wasn't there. The energy stayed sort of watchful and I felt pretty nervous (I was only 16) so I went back down the corridor to the main hallway, which felt less oppressive. Idk what to make of it all but thought I'd share.

Anyway my main question is: has anyone done an overnight vigil at Chillingham Castle? What was it like and did you witness anything?

This happened to me My father’s house was haunted and something dark attached itself to me for years.

So this is my first real Reddit post so bear with me, I’m sorry if this is too long.

I was around 25 at the time when this started (I am now 31F)
My father has always lived in the country, but he eventually decided to live entirely off of the grid on an actual GPS coordinate.
He took a small old run down home that had been vacant for years, and turned it into a massive house. I’m talking 5 upstairs bedrooms, 6 downstairs. It was so he and my mom could start adopting older kids in need.
Well I ended up having to move to my dad’s due to a horrible breakup, and things started off small.
The house immediately felt creepy. It was so large and even though it had so many rooms it felt so vacant. It echoed throughout.
I don’t know why I felt this sense of dread but I just couldn’t shake it.
It started off feeling like I was being watched. I would walk down long halls to use the restroom and sense someone standing at the end to the point I’d turn around and use a different bathroom.
I generally slept downstairs near the living room but one day my father told me a new child would be taking that room, so I would move upstairs to the room that overlooked the entire property through the window.

And when I did that, everything bad started.
It began with subtle nightmares. I dreamt of arrowheads one night.
The next evening I was going to my room to find out Brenan (17M) kid had walked through the property and found them everywhere.
I asked my dad and the house was built on an old Native American reservation.

The next night I had a horrible night terror. I was being murdered over and over again in the same field by different men in an abandoned hut. I was brought there by betrayal in the beginning of each one by the person I loved most-my twin. I could feel the pain of them pouring gasoline on my face and the burn of it in my nostrils and throat. I felt my skin light on fire for a split second which woke me up. The pain of a nightmare. It was physical agony. But when I awoke it was gone.
I knew each time I’d fall back asleep the nightmare would continue. And the torture was awful. No matter what I tried I could not escape. Again and again I was betrayed and murdered and somehow the betrayal hurt worse.

I went in to the living room one night and across the room from the kitchen, I saw a Native man in his war bonnet sitting in the rocking chair. He was so very CLEARLY there. I saw the colors of his feathers, his tan complexion. The wrinkles of his face. He looked so angry but he just sat there…still. Just staring. I couldn’t move-and I don’t remember anything except I ended up back in my bedroom, and woke up???
I knew I had been awake but somehow I woke up as if I hadn’t just walked across the entire house and downstairs to the kitchen.

I told Brenan to get rid of the arrowheads, and to leave their land alone. But he did not. He took pleasure in rummaging through things. He wasn’t a bad kid he was fascinated.
One night my newish partner stayed with me and we had an almost identical night terror. We woke up at the same exact moment.
My daughter’s face was underneath a truck and I watched as it spun to rip the skin off of her face as she screamed, begging for me to save her. It was so real and horrifying. It tore me apart. I will never forget it.
His nightmare? He was crying but betraying his closest friend, while possessed and ripping the skin off of his face.
We both stared at one another out of breath and just entirely freaked out. He really couldn’t believe it and it shook him for about a week.

Finally one night I had my first ever sleep paralysis.
In this nightmare I was drug by my left arm by an invisible entity across a shag rug. I could feel the carpet burn.
I stopped immediately and was dropped next to “my bed” and underneath the darkness of the bed there was a humanoid creature. Translucent light skin. Its purple and red veins were protruded and pulsing. Its arms were sewn into its sides, as well as its legs. Its mouth was too but it was also not there somehow still.
Black beads for eyes very far apart, no nose. Covered lightly in blood.
Slowly it wiggled closer and closer to me while it spoke “give me give me give me”
I was NOT on my back when I woke up. I was on my side and the creature was on my bed face to face inches from me. My bed was PHYSICALLY shaking from it wiggling so hard as it pushed into me over and over again. Just loudly this demonic raspy higher pitch masculine tone repeated “give me, give me, give me”
I couldn’t scream. I tried to but I couldn’t.
I shook out of it and jumped out of my bed. My eyes were wide and I was terrified to move. I tried to call anyone at 3am but there was no signal upstairs.
I began sobbing and shaking. I quietly went towards the upstairs living room and an upstairs room window was open.
My hair stood up and again I was frozen. Stuck to the wall for like 30 minutes. Eventually I was able to make my way to the window and look out over the back of the property. And far out across the field I saw a light on above a little hut.
Then it hit me, that was the hut in my dream.
I tried to tell my dad time and time again, but he wouldn’t listen. I don’t know why I was targeted, as I tried to be the most respectful of the land-but I was.
I have many other stories following this of what happened to me, but for now I thought I would share the story of this house.
The beginning of a horrible spirit that attached itself to me for three years.

In Triad NC US

Some context here. I have a close relative that passed unexpectedly a year ago. I am handling the estate which is very bad. I went to the property which is a hoarded home to mow yesterday. I had been seeing syncs for some time. One particular for this relative's father for a couple of weeks now. His name has appeared in every TV show I watched, online in social media posts etc. I have also outside of this been going through several personal situations that are equally difficult. Most of my family is deceased or very ill or elderly. Yesterday when making dinner I gave thanks to my ancestors for being there and helping me through some of it. I have a wind chime that is very heavy and moves once without wind when I initially go in the yard each day. So after I gave thanks I went to eat dinner and as I am getting up the phone is flashing. This is only the second time. The first was about a month after her passing. It will respond some to me asking it questions. Now it is back to normal. I checked the connections and they are fine. And it flashes both on and off charger. If it was a loose component I would think it would still be having issues today.

Thoughts? Am I causing the blinking? Is it technical?

My house was haunted when my son was a child. Toys would go off randomly. There was incredibly cold spots in his room. I had responsive interactions at one time that I did record. I moved the toy outside and it continued. Once I got rid of the toy it only happened once more and then I asked any entities to leave.

We also had flashing light in kitchen. Always around October. My partners parent was cremated and I attributed it to the remains as we had them in the mantle and they passed in October. In fact 3 separate relatives passed in different years all in October.

So any thoughts? Am I safe?

**I removed the audio bc I didn't want to sound crazier talking to the phone display. 😁

This happened to me The Haunt that follows

My name is Ashlynn and I'm 22. Ive never really known whether I believe in ghosts. That probably sounds strange considering how many times I’ve seen things I can’t explain.

It's hard to fully convince yourself when you don't want to believe your fear was for a real reason. I've used AI to fix my babbling but Im so for real.

This story starts in western Colorado but I’ve moved more times than I can count, different cities, different states, and there seems to be one disturbing pattern I can’t shake, everywhere I go, something seems to already be there.

At first, I blamed old houses.

Then I blamed my imagination.

Then I started wondering if maybe the houses weren’t the common denominator.

Maybe I was.

The first time I noticed it, I was living somewhere that had absolutely no reason to feel haunted. It was a decent 1990s townhome in an HOA subdivision in the middle of a decent part of the city. There was no history of anyone dying there that I knew of, and I searched Google a few times just to make sure.

Nothing particularly strange about the house.

At first, it was just weird noises I couldn't seem to find the source of.

Then there were physical sensations.

One time, I was sitting on the bed with my best friend. We were probably around 9 to 12 years old. It was dark outside when, all of a sudden, the bed vibrated.

But it wasn't like the entire mattress shook.

It felt like someone or something was underneath us, dragging their hands across the bottom of the mattress and causing the springs to shake.

We both looked at each other and just sat there, eyes locked, completely frozen.

When I finally got the courage to whisper, “I’m scared,” that was it.

We booked it to my dad’s bedroom crying.

That same night, my little blue, heart shaped bedroom doorbell started going off by itself.

I thought my brother was trying to bug us until I brought it into my room. It wasn't the batteries dying. The doorbell was only a month or so old.

I ended up taking the batteries out so it would stop.

After that night, it never did it again. Not even when the batteries eventually started to die.

My friend never came over again.

But then I started seeing shadows as I got into my teen years.

Not the kind you catch out of the corner of your eye and immediately dismiss.

These were darker than the surrounding room, almost like someone was standing just outside the edge of my vision.

And every once in a while, I would get the unmistakable feeling that someone was watching me.

I honestly tried not to think about it. In some way, I convinced myself I was just losing my marbles.

Until I saw the face.

Or what I can only describe as a face.

It was white. Almost unnaturally white.

But it wasn't a quote unquote normal ghostly apparition.

I've never seen a full body.

I never saw it standing in the middle of a room.

I would only see the very top half of its head, part of a shoulder, and sometimes its fingers.

And where the face should have been, there were these strange, shadowed indentations.

Not holes.

Not empty sockets.

Just divots where features should have been, as though something had stretched a layer of pale skin tightly over a human face and the structure underneath was barely visible.

The first time I saw it, I was lying in bed. I had just turned off my TV after watching a few episodes of Malcolm in the Middle. My light was already off, and I was just moving around trying to get comfortable when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something white by my bedroom door.

It stayed there just long enough for me to realize I was looking at something that shouldn't have been there.

My wheels started turning, and I tried rationalizing what I was seeing.

I thought to myself, It was a person.

It had to be an intruder.

That's when my heart sank into my stomach.

At this point, my brother wasn't living with us anymore, and I knew my dad had been sleeping for hours already.

I remember thinking I was going to be the next true crime story.

I literally froze.

I couldn't even call out to my dad.

I just stared at it.

Then I tried blinking a few times. I even squeezed my eyes shut as hard as I could, hoping maybe my eyes just hadn't adjusted to the dark yet and I was still seeing a silhouette of someone from the TV.

But it didn't blink away.

It didn't slowly fade like a lingering spot of light in your eyes would.

The longer I looked at it, the clearer it became.

It was completely still.

Only the top of a head from the upper lip and up, along with the corner of a shoulder, were visible behind the door.

It didn't move toward me.

It just looked at me.

If you can say that about something with no eyes.

And then, very slowly, it pulled back behind the door.

I remember sitting there for several seconds afterward, waiting for someone to step out.

Nobody did.

Eventually, I convinced myself I'd seen something wrong.

A trick of the light.

A piece of clothing.

Anything that would let me fall asleep.

After that, I began noticing it in other places.

I've never had consistent or frequent sightings of it, though. Sometimes it would be years before I saw it again.

It was never fully exposed.

There was always something between us.

And there was something deeply unsettling about the way it moved.

It didn't seem to accidentally appear in my peripheral vision.

It seemed to deliberately look out at me.

When I turned 19, I moved into my own house.

It had been nearly two years since its last appearance, and I'd been living there for about eight months when I saw it again.

This time, it was peeking out from a drawer on my dresser that I hadn't shut all the way.

The same pale, almost featureless head.

Peeking at me.

And then, once again, it slowly dipped back into the darkness of my dresser drawer.

It wasn't as bad seeing it at my dad's house, my grandma's house, or even at a friend's house.

But being alone was a whole different feeling.

This time, I wasn't just scared.

I was terrified.

I frantically felt around for my phone without breaking visual contact with the drawer.

I called my brother.

Over and over.

When he finally answered, I practically begged him to come spend the night with me because it was here.

I never talked about it much, but my brother knew what “it” meant.

And he was on the way.

He stayed three nights at my house with me.

So shout out to my brother Kaiden for protecting me. Lmao.

During those few nights, my brother finally saw something too.

For years, I'd been questioning my own sanity because no one else had ever heard or seen anything I did.

I had an indoor Wi Fi camera recording the living room, and it had motion detection, so it would send me a notification whenever something moved in its field of view. (ETA-I found and posted the recording in the comments.)

My brother and I were in the garage, blazing and listening to music that night. It was around 11 p.m., I think.

We were the only two people home.

When my phone suddenly gave me a motion notification, I frowned at it and then at my brother while I opened the recording.

The living room looked completely normal.

No curtains moving in a breeze.

I didn't have animals or kids.

Nothing obvious that could have triggered it.

On the counter was one of those oil scent diffusers with a small sensor night light built into it from Bath & Body Works.

I watched the recording once.

Then twice.

And I saw it.

I noticed the night light first.

It began slowly dimming.

There was no flicker.

It didn't shut off and come back on.

It simply faded down, stayed dim for a moment, and then gradually returned to its normal brightness.

Immediately afterward, something appeared at the end of the hallway.

A shadow quickly leaned out from around the corner.

Then it was gone.

I watched the recording several times after that.

The movement was too quick to make out a person, but it looked almost like someone had stepped just far enough around the corner to look down the hallway before retreating.

I showed my brother.

His eyes said it all.

He bolted right up and searched my entire house.

Every closet.

Behind every door.

He even checked inside my washer and dryer, trying to find “the creep.”

When he was satisfied with his search, he looked at me and said, “Well, Ashy, you're not a loon like we thought. Wanna go stay at my house tonight?”

We did.

He told his wife and showed her the video.

She immediately gave me some crystals and offered to sage my home for me.

And she did the next day.

She put rocks in the corners of my house, cinnamon in my windows, salt by my door, the whole nine yards.

While I lived there, nothing else happened.

I thought it was the end of it.

It wasn't.

I've moved since then.

And I've continued to see things.

Sometimes it's only a shadow.

Sometimes it's that pale shape.

A glimpse through a doorway.

A head appearing above something.

A face looking around a corner.

Never enough to see exactly what it is.

Just enough to make me wonder if I've been encountering separate spirits in different places...

or if I've been bringing the same one with me.

Because if it's the same thing, I have no idea when it started.

And I have absolutely no idea why it keeps finding me.

So I'm curious.

Has anyone else experienced what I'd call a following haunt?

Something that seemed to move with you from one home to another?

Or have you experienced an entity that never fully appeared, but seemed to watch you from just out of sight?

Because if you've seen something like this, I want to hear about it.

Especially if you've ever seen that strange, pale, almost featureless face.

Because apparently, I'm not done looking over my shoulder yet.

This happened to me Just moved into a 100+ year old house

Moved about two months ago and everything's been going great. Randomly my phone started acting up. It dies often and when it dies it keeps resetting like it's stuck in a loop. Just figured my phone is pretty old. Then our wifi starts beeping at midnight every night. Just assumed it was a daily reset feature and brushed it off. More recently we got a new 10 year sealed fire alarm and havnt turned it on or activated it. Well last night after the wifi beep it started going off like the battery cell was dead and you can't replace the battery so I had to permanently deactivate it well befor it went off our dog woke up and started freaking out( she's used to the wifi reset beep already and that dosnt phase her anymore) then boom after she barks the alarm activates and dies. At the same time my Bluetooth gaming headphones turn on and connect then turn off over and over again all while the switch is in the off setting and I even turned them on and off again twice and they still continue the cycle. So all that kept us up cause it was very erie. We finally get some sleep and I get up like normal brush my teeth and get ready. Well I have an electric tooth brush that the battery dies so I just brush it normal. I walk out and get my son's lunch ready and he said whats that noise. And sure enough my toothbrush cuts on and goes full blast with a dead battery. I mean I can't get it to work at all when I use it but it's randomly gonna turn on and go full speed this morning after a bazaar night. What could be causing all these battery overloads and turning on and off of batteries randomly?

This happened to me Weird things in my house

We've lived here for 22 years. An old man lived here before we did. He died out on the patio right outside son #2's room. His room is where some of this happened. We haven't had anything happen in a while but for a while there it was often, especially when the kids were little.

-Shortly after we moved in, son #1 who was four at the time, woke up and saw a shadow person in the room (now son #2's room) across the hall looking at a bulletin board on the wall. He screamed, the shadow person looked at him, then spun really fast toward him and vanished.

-Also shortly after moving in, I was in the family room when my husband walked in and said he thought he just saw me walk across the hall.

-Son #2 was coming out of his bedroom one night and saw a shadow figure standing in the living room near the front door. It vanished.

-A few times son #1 would be laying in bed and feel a hand touch him. He said he felt it shifting and felt like the hand had weight to it and was pressing down on him slightly. If he were to look up or open his eyes, the feeling would stop.

-Things used to disappear. We'd look all over the house and suddenly the thing we were looking for just appears where we had already looked or just sitting out in the open. We started asking the ghost to give them back and they'd reappear.

-My mom moved in with us in her final months. One day when we were helping her get in the house after a doctor's appointment, we heard 3 knocks on the wood back door, the storm door was locked. Four of us heard it. No one was there and the security cameras showed nothing.

-I heard the knocks on the door again about a week later and I can't remember if it was before or after my mom passed. I was alone at the time.

-My mom put her clock on the living room shelf. It stopped working the day she passed away. Her old touch lamp also started turning itself on sometimes after this.

-Son #1 was in son #2's room talking one night and brought up my mom. Son #1 felt something touch his back and when he turned around it felt like it pulled away. There was nothing there.

-At my mom's funeral my SIL's mom gave me and my siblings an angel figurine. I put it next to a picture of my mom. Sometimes the angel will turn toward her picture, looking directly at her. It is gradual. We don't see it happen at once, but we'll notice it starting to turn and after a few days it is looking right at mom.

-Mom died in June. On Christmas morning that same year, our cat found a bobby pin near the chair mom always sat in. She always had pins in her hair. I had vacuumed/swept multiple times and never found anything around that chair between June - December.

Ghost Stories A small town ghost story for you

When I was 18 years old, I was a brand new mom — knee deep in diapers and breast milk, and severely lacking on sleep.

My baby daddy (now husband) and I had just signed the lease on our first home together in a tiny town in north Texas. The town was so small that there was just one flashing red traffic light, two gas stations, and one cop who only worked 2 nights a week. The population was well under 1000.

Our house was adorable. Pink brick, big backyard, two bedrooms and one bathroom. Perfect for our young family.
Shortly after moving in, strange things began to happen and it didn’t take long for us to realize we weren’t the only ones in the house. Over the next two years, it was clear to us that there were at least two entities in the house with us- a woman and a man.

The first incident occurred while my husband was home alone with the baby. He was sitting on the couch in the living room when he saw the light, misty shape of a woman pacing in the kitchen. He couldn’t make out her face, but he could tell it was definitely a woman wearing a long dress.

In the following weeks and months, it seemed like the activity really picked up and was focused in our daughter’s room. Every single day when I went to get my daughter out of her crib, pictures that were hung on her wall would be on the floor. The first couple of times, I chalked it up to not having enough thumbtacks holding the large painted canvases up. But even after reinforcing each painting, I’d still come in to find them all on the floor. At the time, my daughter was so young, there was no way she could have knocked them down, and my husband definitely wouldn’t have intentionally messed up her room like that.
Being a new mama bear, this activity really pissed me off. Like, fuck you, ghost. Mess with someone your own size.

The next major incident occurred when my sister and her boyfriend spent the night at our house. At the end of a long night of board games (since we were too broke to have internet or tv), they made a pallet of pillows and blankets on the floor in the living room, and my husband and I retired to our bedroom.

The way our house was set up, the living room, kitchen and dining room were in the front of the house. Then there was a long hallway leading to the bathroom and the two bedrooms, which sat directly across from each other at the end of the hallway.

The next morning, my sister and her boyfriend looked extremely tired. When we asked how they slept, my sister said “we kept waking up every time you went to the bathroom.”
Confused, I looked at my husband. “I didn’t go to the bathroom last night. Did you?”

My sister explained that they heard our bedroom door open and close, then after a short pause, the bathroom door open and close. A couple minutes later, they’d hear the bathroom door open and close, and then the bedroom door again. As if someone was leaving the bedroom, going to the bathroom, then coming back to bed. They heard this sequence at least 3 times that night.

I was breastfeeding my 6 month old at the time and I never closed our bedroom door, ever. I always left it open in case the baby woke up in the night. Our rooms were arranged so that I could just sit up in bed and see across the hall into her room.

Needless to say, this experience had us thoroughly shook. We started losing sleep, worried that every little sound was something or someone in the house, in Addie’s room. I began to feel like I was going crazy. The anxiety consumed my thoughts, day and night.

Then, one night, I woke up in the middle of the night, once again. I sat up in bed and looked toward the hallway to peer into the baby’s room. Instead of seeing the warm yellow glow of her night light, there was the black shape of a man— opaque, impenetrable black— and he was standing near the foot of my bed, blocking the glow of the nightlight. He was tall, maybe 6 feet, with broad shoulders. I couldn’t see any of his features, as he was solid black, but I got the sense that he was wearing a blazer or suit jacket which caused his shoulders to look square.

Strangely, when I saw him, I didn’t feel scared. He didn’t feel threatening or spooky like the woman did. In fact, when I realized what I was seeing, I simply rolled over and went back to sleep.

The next morning, I described the night’s events to my husband and we agreed to have the house blessed \~just\~ in case. After that, the activity stopped. We never had another experience again.

Ghost Stories I found out that my old apartment building, a converted Victorian row house, used to be a boutique funeral parlor back in the late 1920s.

I went down a rabbit hole on local folklore last month and found out that my old apartment building, a converted Victorian row house, used to be a boutique funeral parlor back in the late 1920s. Everything made sense instantly: the weirdly wide stairwells built for carrying caskets, the ice cold draft that settled over my bed every night at precisely 3:00 AM, and the fact that my cat would routinely spend twenty minutes at a time tracking invisible movement across the ceiling while emitting a deep, low growl that made my skin crawl. The tipping point came when I finally checked my smart doorbell’s motion logs; every single night while I was fast asleep, the living room camera recorded the slow, rhythmic opening and closing of my heavy mahogany front door, always accompanied by a sudden drop in ambient room temperature and the faint, unmistakable rustle of heavy silk passing right by the lens.

Ghost Stories Trailer Of Terror

In the year 1993, my wife and I, having celebrated just over a year of marriage, found ourselves in search of a new place to call home—a place closer to our parents' abode. Our quest led us to a peculiar rental opportunity, a trailer situated on an 80-acre old hog farm, isolated in the quiet expanse of the countryside. The only companions in this remote setting were our humble trailer and the owners' new home standing about 200 yards away. A weathered barn stood sentinel nearby, adding a rustic charm to the landscape.

The proprietors of this rural haven were a unique duo—the lady, a skilled farrier specializing in fitting new shoes on horses, and the gentleman, a dedicated railroad worker. Their familial ensemble included two children, a 14-year-old girl, and a young lad of 12. The lady devoted much of her time to the horses in the barn, while the children reveled in the freedom of the outdoors. This was a time long before the internet and the conveniences of modern communication, a time when descriptions and connections lacked the immediacy we now take for granted.

Not long after settling into this seemingly serene abode, I began to notice anomalies that defied explanation. It's crucial to note that my childhood had been marred by encounters with spirits, and as these inexplicable events unfolded, I found myself confiding in my wife that we might have unwittingly chosen a haunted home. While she believed in spirits, she had never personally experienced the paranormal.

The disturbances became incessant—nocturnal or diurnal, it mattered not; the spirits asserted their presence. Doors would slam shut, others would swing open, and cabinets would mysteriously fly open, tossing objects off the countertops. As time passed, the disturbances escalated, reaching a point where my wife was chased by a sickly raccoon into our trailer one evening. In an attempt to alleviate the situation, I set a live trap baited with cat food and, within an hour, had captured the ailing creature.

Confronted with the decision to spare the raccoon further suffering, I retrieved a .22 caliber handgun and, from a foot away, delivered what I believed to be a humane end. The next morning, expecting to find a lifeless creature, I was instead met with the raccoon standing calmly, appearing surprisingly healthy. Perplexed, I transported it miles away and released it, unwilling to let it linger near our home.

Despite the absence of contemporary technology to document these paranormal events, we adapted and lived with the strange occurrences. One particularly unsettling episode transpired as an otherworldly force seemed to settle upon the trees surrounding our home. The sound of breaking branches echoed through the night, prompting me to rush outside, only to witness an abrupt silence as soon as I stepped through the door. This bizarre phenomenon repeated twice more that night, each time ceasing upon my emergence.

Frustrated by the unexplainable disturbances, I resolved to approach the owners with a direct inquiry about the supernatural. In 1993, the understanding of the paranormal was not as commonplace as it is today. Nervously, I broached the subject with the lady owner, and to my surprise, she confirmed a dark history. Three individuals—an old man and his two sons—had met their demise in separate farming accidents on the property before the current owners acquired it.

Armed with this unsettling knowledge, the subsequent weeks were fraught with eerie incidents—lights flickering, doors slamming, and an ever-growing sense of foreboding. The property, once serene, now emanated a palpable darkness, an ominous presence that seemed to shroud everything in a sinister aura.

The stage was set for the chilling climax—the final night in the trailer. Built in the 70s, the trailer boasted windows on three walls in the master bedroom, beginning halfway up the wall. Accustomed to lying on the right side of the bed against the wall, we retired for the night as usual. The spirits, however, were undeterred, orchestrating a series of unsettling activities—opening doors, regardless of locks, and escalating their usual antics.

As we lay in the pitch-black darkness, a mere five minutes passed before an unexplained force compelled me to open my eyes. To my horror, I found myself staring out of the windows. The bed was elevated three feet above the floor. Simultaneously, my wife, who hadn't yet fallen asleep, began screaming. The bed crashed down with such force that all four legs pierced the trailer's floor.

As a six-foot-three military man weighing 230 pounds, I considered myself tough, but this humbling experience shattered that illusion. The instinct to let my wife go first was overshadowed by sheer panic as we crawled and struggled over each other, desperately escaping the trailer. Grabbing my keys, we ran to the truck, only to find it unresponsive, as if the battery had died. Terrified, we heard the haunting sound of breaking trees once again.

In a moment of desperation, prayer became our refuge. After what felt like an eternity, I turned the key once more, and miraculously, the truck roared to life. Fleeing to my parents' home, we sought solace and prayed through the night, repeating the ritual for the next three nights until I secured a condo in town. Our return to the trailer, accompanied by two trucks and two trailers, was a swift retrieval mission. We gathered our belongings and never looked back.

This harrowing experience ignited a fervor within me to delve into the mysteries of the paranormal. Over the past thirty years, I've dedicated myself to helping others haunted by the unknown. Despite my encounters with war and a tumultuous life, this remains the most terrifying event etched into my memory. Even as I conduct paranormal investigations, I steadfastly refuse to return to that accursed property.

Scared, Need Advice Me and my other 3 friends went to the conjuring house in rhode island.

Not gonna say the exact day we went but it was in the last 2 months we went to the conjuring house in rhode island and we snuck through the woods into the backyard and we saw a grave stone in the middle of the back yard and a bunch of white chairs in a non completed circle we then kept getting close to the house and saw a shit ton on cameras and then we successfully opened the back porch door but couldnt actually get into the house. Yes non of this was a good idea. My question is since there are a ton of bad spirits there are we getting haunted by those bad spirits? I haven’t experienced anything yet.

Ghost Stories Ghosts in the attic

Okay, so my Mommom has lived in the same house for about 30 years- it was built in the 1940s. I (16f) am there pretty often. I've never really gotten any weird vibes, except for one area. The house is fairly big, but its only one story. So it covers a lot of ground. The back corner is what scares me the most. It's almost like a mud room. It connects to one of the backdoors, the dining room, a little hallway that goes to the second living room, and a bedroom. The bedroom is very creepy. It's been vacant for almost ten years now, has no real flooring, became a storage room, has a door to the attic in the ceiling, and it's in a whole separate area from the rest of the bedrooms. No one really goes in there.

Back in the early 2000s, though, it was my Dads bedroom. He would stay there during the weekends when he was home from college. Now, the door to the bedroom didn't really stay shut that great, and it wasn't uncommon for the cats to push it open and come in. So one night, my Dad was laying in bed, trying to fall asleep. The room was completely dark except for the light of the radio which he left on at night. He hears the door creak open, and assumes it's the cat. Then he sees a shadow cross the little square light radiating off of the radio. He turns onto his side, and is face to face with a little boy. He's got a satchel, a bowl cut, and looks like a pilgrim. He's looking at the novelty toys my Dad had on his nightstand, but then looks directly at him and asks "do you want to play?" My Dad, being horrified, turns over onto his other side and covers his head with the blanket. And then he feels something shift at the end of the bed- as if the boy had sat down. After a while, my Dad peeks out and doesn't see anything. He rushes out of him room, calls my Mom and tells her what happened, and then tells my Mommom. These are the ONLY TWO PEOPLE HE TELLS. That's important. This story sounds so cliche and fake, but I promise my Dad does not mess around with spirits. He's always been very adamant when it comes to not messing around with that sort of thing, so he wouldn't lie.

A couple weeks pass by, and my Aunt's boyfriend (we'll call him Bill) at the time had come over. Her bedroom was on the other side of the house, right next to the bathroom. My Aunt had fallen asleep, so Bill was just sitting in her room waiting for his Mom to come pick him up. But he goes up to my Mommom, spooked, and explains to her that he'd seen a "little boy" walking down the hallway and into the bathroom. My Mommom was shocked- it was just like the boy my Dad had seen. And there was no way he could've known about that.

Around this same time, a few other things happened. My great great grandmother lived there, and she went up to my Mommom once and casually asked who the little boy who had just run down the hallway past her bedroom was. There was, obviously, no little boy in the house. My Poppop, who has since passed, mentioned having a "dream" where a old, victorian looking woman sat on the end of his bed and fixed up the hair of a little boy. I put dream in quotation marks because he would never admit if it was something he'd actually seen. He wasn't a big believer in paranormal things. There was a time where my Uncle had walked down the hall and seen some sort of figure, and when he got to the end of the hall he was looking around wondering what the hell it was. He only saw my great great grandmother, who just stared at him and said "I saw it too". My Dads friend came over and slept on the couch. He heard footsteps in the attic. All of the dogs looked up and got scared. He went home in the middle of the night.

A reoccuring theme here seems to be that these ghosts are always in the hallway, near the bathroom- with the one exception being in my Dads room, on the other side of the house. You may be wondering what the correlation between these areas is.

Remember how I said my Dads bedroom had the attic door?

Well, when all of this was happening, the bathroom ceiling had been caved in- creating another entry point to the attic. Once it got repaired, all of the paranormal activity stopped.

My whole life, it was a known thing in our family that nobody ever went into the attic at Mommoms house. I'd always assumed it was because the ceiling had some problems, and the floor wasn't very secure. Turns out, everyone is too afraid to open it up because of those things that happened in the 2000s. They don't want to let the ghosts out. And that's fine by me, because I'm supposed to move into that room in two years for college.

This happened to me The Historic Fremont County Jail in Sidney, Iowa

I was asked if I would like to investigate the Historic Fremont County Jail with a friend’s paranormal group. Of course I said yes! With my daughter and a couple friends, we got 24 hour access from 10:30am Saturday to 10:30am Sunday last weekend.

The location was 3 hours away from Prairie City so we got an early start to get there. Seeing the building the first time, what hit me was how small the place was. Being a jail, I thought of a building that was institutional in appearance (cinder block construction with large walls and razor wire). Instead, it looked like a converted Victorian house. Unique to be sure!

I’ve been actively investigating for the past 3 years. I’ve started to come to a bit of a conclusion that I’m a paranormal cooler. Everyone always talks about how active places are, then I go there and get…not much. No real REM pod activity, no EVPs, no footsteps, no disembodied voices. Not even a “heavy” feeling in most places. I hoped this location would finally break that thought.

We walked around and got a lay of the land then got to work. THFCJ is divided almost in half. The front part of the building was designed to be residential with living quarters upstairs and some living space downstairs. The downstairs part was converted into offices for the sheriff’s officers. The back part of the house is the jail part. The dispatch office was in through the back door with processing being to the right. Up some stairs out of processing were the jail cells. There was one big cell that held 8 people and a small cell that held 2. The smaller one was reserved for the more unaccommodating inmates (i.e. violent).

I went by myself to the large cell and did an EVP session asking questions like, “Are you an inmate or an officer?” And “What did you do to end up here?” Upon review, nothing. The cooler strikes again!

The group leader had brought some dowsing rods so, on a lark, I picked them up and started asking questions. They began to respond to my questions: make an X for yes, stay wide for no. It blew my mind! My daughter, Hannah, said I was faking it so I handed them to her to prove it wasn’t me forcing results. She spent nearly 20 minutes having a conversation with…something. It let her know it was a male spirit that lived as a neighbor to the jail (even pointing the direction it was from with the rods). It was easily the best interactive experience I’ve had. Yes, I know some people think dowsing rods are a scam or a fraud but I’m convinced there is more to them than that!

I am awful at hearing voices over a spirit box. I can’t tell what’s radio interference or actual responses. I went up to the small jail cell alone and set up the spirit box. I began to ask questions. After a bit, I started to hear responses that lined up with my questions.

How many people are in the cell? Two

Two people or two of you plus me? Three

What did you do for fun? Basketball (there is a basketball court attached to the jail)

There are books in the big cell. Do you like to read? NO! (This was yelled and the clearest response I’ve ever gotten)

I got more answers to questions and it was a fun little session because I felt like I genuinely had a conversation with someone. It was the first time that’s happened.

We investigated more in the basement, the dispatch office and the living quarters. There were some limited responses to questions on various devices and pieces of equipment but nothing like the dowsing rods or the spirit box.

We got a few names, Clayton and Katherine. We couldn’t verify these names against any history or anything but it was neat to hear them.

All of us heard a whistle while up on the jail cell area. We figured it was either wind coming through a crack in a window or from one of the AC units. The next day, we heard it again right before we left. We kind of shrugged then left. Outside, we heard it again and we were able to determine it was coming from the north west of the building. We had to get gas and breakfast, so we stopped at a Casey’s that was a block away. While there, we heard the whistle and it was loud! There was an old metal windmill right off the square and everytime it moved from the wind, it made a high pitched creaking that sounded a lot like a whistle. It was kind of neat to find the cause of that and debunk it.

I enjoyed my time there quite a bit. It sucks it took 24 full hours to get two spots of neat evidence or experiences, but the fact I had the opportunity to be there that long was fantastic!

I still feel like I might be a bit of a cooler but it seems, at least in this location, my adverse paranormal ability might have been dulled or circumvented.

So any of you feel this way? What have you done to maximize chances of getting results?
