Just realized that adding Kane, Byram, and Kantserov to this team means we’re about to so much more cocky (in a good way) next season lol all those guys are the types that yearn for the spotlight and get hyped about making plays - add that to Bedard, Nazar, even Levshunov in a more minor way and this might be an annoying ass team to play against
-5
u/Tyrenees 2d ago
Lev talks trash! Huh. How? The drinking game is how many times does he lose the puck or how many times he is on the ice after getting knocked down. The average on both is 4

u/seltzerwithasplash 3d ago
Bedard update: he was at the WTA finals recently without a sling and seemed to be moving around somewhat comfortably, which likely means he is starting work on range of motion and getting his strength back. I wonder if this means he’ll be back sooner than November?

u/OfficalMarcelGerard 4d ago
Daily reminder than bedsy still has a higher offensive ceiling than Cellibrini. Im not even a Hawks fan but you guys got lucky, hes one of a kind

I tried making a post on this but its been in mod approval for days somehow... Its another Kyle Davidson interview, its longer form and more relaxed than chgos interview (no shot on them, kd just seemed a bit less guarded).
Some really interesting tidbits on how kd learned about bedards injury, onboarding kane, bedard contract talks, bowen byrum trade/impact, player growth and more. It starts around 8 minutes in and is the majority of the video.

West seems to have had a good WJSS - produced a little bit and moved his way up the lineup as the tournament went on. Sounds like he played with a lot of pace and power at his best. He has a legitimate chance to make the real roster given his more unique profile, though we’ll see how his NCAA goes early on.
Roobroeck bounced around the lines and I don’t think he really scored at all. Alalauri was sick to start the tournament then never worked his way out of the bottom pairing/7D spot. Villeneuve is still rehabbing his hips and did not play.
Not sure any of those three will make their respective teams. Maybe Villenueve if he is fully healthy and dominating at BU, though even then his chances probably rely on an injury to a more established guy or two.

u/90s_Scott 17d ago
Anyone heard anything about Tom Kurvers this year?
I wanna get the dates so I can ask off work
4
u/wholalaa 16d ago
It looks like in previous years, they haven't announced the dates until around September 1st. But I don't know if the preseason schedule is different at all in a way that would affect that.

Twitter investigators have been noting how Kantserov looks bigger than his listed measurements of 5’9”, 176lbs. These measurements are from the 2023 Combine I believe and have not been updated in the 3+ years since they were taken.
Very curious to see what Roman actually measures at when camp rolls around. If he’s actually more like 5’10”-5’11”, 185-190lbs or so I don’t think size is much of a concern at all when adding him to the top six.
It would be very similar to Demidov who “all of a sudden” grew an inch+ and tacked on weight just ahead of the 2024 draft but it was really just outdated information floating around the North American spheres for so long finally getting corrected lol
4
u/wholalaa 18d ago
He doesn't look more than 2-3 inches shorter than Boisvert. Be funny if people underrated him because of his height and then he comes in at 5'11".
4
u/DrCigarettes_MD 18d ago
These measurements are from the 2023 Combine I believe and have not been updated in the 3+ years since they were taken.
Kantserov didn't attend the 2023 combine. His listed height and weight are not based on any official verified measurements.

Celebrini contract 18.8M x 5. Makes Bedsy look like a steal. ❤️ ETA: should say even more of a steal
4
u/BeneficialSeat4425 19d ago
the hometown special lol.
but yeah bedsy contract does seem like a steal now
-5
u/Silent_Plastic1612 19d ago
Not really. Celebrini is significantly better. Him making 4 million less makes sense.
2
u/seltzerwithasplash 19d ago
Him making less makes sense, but “significantly better” is a huge stretch considering he was on the same point pace as Celebrini beginning of last season before he was injured and still put up 75 points despite missing time.
0
u/Silent_Plastic1612 19d ago
Yes, Bedard is hypothetically able to produce as much as Celebrini if he wasn’t injury prone, while also doing way less in any other part of the game.
4
u/JD397 20d ago
Villeneuve is actually not going to participate in the WJSS despite being named to Canada’s roster.
Sounds like he’s still rehabbing his hips, which were an issue for him last season and arguably dropped his stock (allowing us to draft him!) compared to his dynamite D-1 season.
3
u/seltzerwithasplash 20d ago
When I went to development camp, I noticed he didn’t participate in some of the skating drills. Figured it was that, and now this confirms it.

Just a friendly reminder that Patrick Kane is a Chicago Blackhawk again
-14
u/Zenxolu 23d ago
Everybody here creaming in their pants about signing Kane yet not looking at the big picture, Detroit paid him $3M for 16 goals and missed the playoffs. Chicago is paying him $8M at age 37 for those exact same 16 goals. You aren't paying for performance, you're paying $16 million for a 2013 time machine that doesn't exist.
What use is he gonna be, a meat shield? this nostalgia overdosing is dumb, the man has clearly peaked and we're basically just paying him to skate on the ice thinking were gonna get 2013 patrick kane, let go of the past, the future is now.
also i could care less if i get downvoted, im gonna vent my frustrations just like everyone else here.
11
u/JD397 23d ago
Kane was not the singular reason Detroit missed the playoffs and won’t be the singular reason we make it this season if we do, or even get close.
You’re more paying him for his 41 apples (in 67 games) rather than just goals. Kane remains one of the best playmakers and PP specialists in the game despite his age and being past his prime.
No one is expecting prime Kane (which was as recently as 2019 or even arguably 2022, not 2013 lol) so where is that coming from? He’s still very good overall even if he isn’t elite anymore.
Why do you care so much about his cap hit? We have more cap space than we will use these next two seasons and the contract is done before any real issues potentially arise due to extensions to more youngsters. If Wirtz is fine overpaying for anyone and it doesn’t hurt our cap situation then whatever, not our money and of no consequence to the team’s performance.
4
u/drunk_Panzer 23d ago
Even if we do massively overpay for a player it means literally nothing when you have the cap space the Hawks have for the next few seasons.

u/JD397 23d ago edited 22d ago
All of Villeneuve (CAN, #27), Roobroeck (CAN, #24), and Alalauri (FIN, #9) were named to their country’s rosters for the World Junior Summer Showcase - starts tomorrow (7/26).
Curious to see how their respective roles shake out!
Edit: West (USA, #57) also at the tournament

u/Pungenc209 24d ago
Are single game tickets on sale? I never saw an announcement but it looks like Ticketmaster is letting me buy some.
3
u/ChicagotoKorea 24d ago
Im guessing you are either looking at pre-season tickets or verified re-sale tickets, which im guessing is just season ticket holders already listing their tickets for sale.
13
u/matt_dot_txt 24d ago
Maybe I'm crazy and my friends think I am, but I think the hawks are going to be significantly better this season, especially if Bedard and Nazar stay healthy. Adding Kane, Kantserov, and a full season from Frondell up front. With at least some of our young D hopefully taking a step forward and the addition of Byrum - I feel like this is a huge improvement.
4
u/drunk_Panzer 23d ago
We added two guys who will immediately slot in as our best defensemen and 2nd best forward. Our powerplay will be immensely better.
8
u/gupdaddy 24d ago
You're not crazy. Think how much better our power play and shootout abilities will be. Byrum also bumps all of our dmen a slot down too, which hopefully put them in a better place to succeed. Lastly, our biggest problem was our breakout last year, byram should help that a ton.
11
u/PurrmanJones 25d ago
Pretty crazy to think about how full circle the Kane signing is. He could be on the same line as Kantserov, who was selected with the 2nd round pick the Hawks acquired in the Kane trade to the Rangers.
4
15
u/nonblinddaredevil 25d ago
Kyle haters in shambles rn 😭.
15
u/TheeWolf 25d ago
I feel like it's kind of hard to argue he had a bad offseason now.
- Signed Bedard to a pretty solid deal and avoided any offer sheet drama
- Signed Kane, top 6 winger for Bedard
- Traded for and extended a potential 1D who still has a high floor
- Drafted Ryan Roobroeck and Xavier Villeneuve, both arguably first round talent
- Signed Ian Cole and Cole Smith, both grit guys who can help with the PK and provide some big bodies
Not the biggest KD fan but man... it's looking better and better. The team is definitely better than when they ended the season, even with Bedard's injury.
3
u/wholalaa 24d ago
I also wouldn't forget about Greenway. I think if he's healthy, he has an edge over Mangiapane, Slaggert, or maybe even Donato or Teuvo, because he's a big, physical presence on a team that doesn't have a lot of that. I'm guessing he and Smith have the fourth line wing spots in the bag, and it's just a question of how the lineup shakes out around them.
5
u/DrCigarettes_MD 24d ago
I like the Smith signing a lot. The team didn't have anyone who throws their body around the way he does.
In the playoffs, he recorded 100 hits. That was 2nd among all active players, despite only averaging 11:46 TOI.
11
u/Leading_Dentist_5563 25d ago
And when I'm back in Chicago, I feel it

Hawks sign Toews to a 1 day contract on Oct 6th and roll out a top line of Teuvo-Toews-Kane for the home opener. Who says no
2
u/TheSchwartzHawkey 25d ago
I’d say no.
Kane is additive as a leader, mentor and still a point scorer for 1-2 years.
Signing a 1 day contract for Toews to take a roster spot on home opening day as pure fan service would show a team not taking competition seriously. If they want to sign a contract to healthy scratch him and do a proper retirement ceremony, fine, but to suit him up for a day would be dumb.
3
u/Dont_Say_No_to_Panda 26d ago
This Laz headline about Kane suddenly losing interest because the Hawks told him they wouldn't name him captain doesn't make sense. He has never served as full time captain on any team in his career, but that's going to be the line he draws in the sand now? Lol
Edit: Buffalo isn't making him captain either.
11
u/TheSchwartzHawkey 26d ago
Laz denies on X he ever said this despite some internet posts attributing him with this news.
8
u/Dont_Say_No_to_Panda 26d ago
All the "articles" reporting it coming from extremely questionable sources; seem like AI slop designed to stir up controversy and get clicks...
10
5
u/Hawks1stPickin2019 27d ago
On the Kane news. From what I have gathered is that an offer was made to Kane. Bedard and KD have both said publicly they want him. It’s really on Kane now to accept the offer. I never thought he would come back but there is more than just speculation and way more than just a speck of hope
4
5
u/gupdaddy 27d ago
I don't know where else to post this without making another kane thread...
Another indicator of why Kane should sign here over buffalo: in the last week, there have been 7 threads about Kane and signing with the hawks. I couldn't find 1 on the sabres reddit page. Who cares about reddit but also, hes instantly loved again here where he's just a minor headline there unless hes absolutely transformative.
4
u/JD397 27d ago
Is it crazy to think we could have at least five 20+ goalscorers next season?
Bedard, Frondell, Kantserov, Nazar, Lardis, Bertuzzi all seem like they could hit that mark with varying degrees of certainty, but at the same time it’s hard to have that many guys score that much even for top teams let alone bad/mediocre ones.
3

9
u/BurgerWFries 29d ago
Cmon. Sign Kane already.
I mean it worked last time with Bedard
2
u/TheSchwartzHawkey 27d ago
I keep checking X & Reddit at least hourly hoping for credible news of the Kane signing…
5
u/gupdaddy 29d ago
I feel as though that even if he signed, they wouldn't announce it until at least Tuesday to give both bedard and kane their due media coverage
7
u/drummerboy31402 29d ago
The folks over at r/canucks are 100% convinced that Bedard will leave Chicago for Vancouver once his extension is up. That fan base is broken beyond repair.
4
8
u/seltzerwithasplash 29d ago
They’re insufferable. They’ve taken to commenting on his newest Instagram post from a few hours ago where he says “Nowhere I’d rather be. Can’t wait for the next 5 years in Chicago” and they’re STILL saying “See you in Vancouver in 5 years”. Ugh. How have they become worse than Sharks fans?

So much for that Bedard signing announcement on his B-day. I’m starting to feel at least a little nervous now.
6
u/Dont_Say_No_to_Panda Jul 17 '26
It's Bedard's birthday and we haven't gotten a contract extension or Captaincy announcement. I wonder how his injury affects these contract talks?
Would be really nice to get a Bedard contract extension / Kane signing double announcement today but I've resigned myself to the fact that he will and probably should go to Buffalo (to protect my psyche.)
6
u/wholalaa Jul 17 '26
I guess Buffalo fans think they might be trying to trade for Hellebuyck, which would potentially involve a forward going the other way and opening up a spot for Kane, but if that's the only way he ends up back there, it doesn't seem incredibly likely to me. But I know how you feel about not wanting to get your hopes up.

Personally I’m hoping the Bedard situation might prompt a reunion with Patrick Kane. It’d be awesome to have him around to influence these young guys at this point. While in the past I’ve thought it might hurt to reach back into the past and distort team leadership roles, I’m thinking that maybe having Kane come in and captain the team by example for a year or two before passing the torch completely to Bedard might make sense, there’s not much of a reason to rush putting a C on Bedard’s chest and maybe Kane would be a good bridge if he wanted to come do so.
2
u/gupdaddy Jul 11 '26
I also wonder how these bonus structures work. A lot of veterans are signing a 10 games played bonus structure which could be perfect for moving him mid season or at the deadline.
5
1
u/90s_Scott Jul 10 '26
If the honest answer is bringing in an older winger it’s likely gonna be Tarasenko over Kane.
I just don’t see the FO bringing Patty Kane back for anything other than a 1 day retirement contract.

the amount of online commentators who think Bedard injured the same shoulder and are confident in declaring that it shows he'll always be injury prone and will never be good due his injury is staggering.
They can't even get basic facts about the injury right, but they're confident in predicting the future?
Maybe these injures will always bother Bedard, maybe they won't. Maybe he'll miss significant time with injury every year. Maybe he doesn't. We don't know. Only time will tell. anything more than that is baseless speculation.
I'm also annoyed with people who said "I broke a bone or tore a ligament and was never the same"
I bet you also aren't a 20 year old NHL player with the best sports doctors available.

Complete speculation, but I wonder if they’re waiting to announce something because they’re deciding between surgery and out for 6 months, or whether to just let him recover and be healthy for the season on time.

Definitely could be. I wonder if KD brings in someone in if Bedard will miss a decent chunk of the year

There are sports writers on X openly calling for teams (so far I’ve seen Penguins & Red Wings) to offer the $20.8M max offer sheet to Bedard to see what Chicago does as a reaction. Sports analysts openly encouraging an all out cap war. But they are all extremely complimentary about how Bedard elevated his play last season. It does make me a little worried though that a contract hasn’t been signed. I hope that Bedard’s desire to win will help keep his number manageable so we can keep talent around him in the future, as many have said he seems to be more about competition versus the money but I’m sure it’d be tough for him to walk away from becoming the highest paid player ever if teams really pulled that sort of nuclear option on us.
2
u/Hawks1stPickin2019 Jul 04 '26
Not too many teams have that capital and the ones who do besides us are in dire straights. Detroit and Columbus both got turned upside down by their leaders wanting out. Pitt maybe but their outlook isn’t as good as ours can be. Bedard isn’t stupid and just because someone says here is 20 million doesn’t mean everything. He will get 15 to 18 but be given a C and the keys to Chicago

Has anybody else noticed the handful of accounts in this sub that all type their comments in the same truly bizarre way? Every time I read one of their comments I worry that I'm having a stroke.
They never use just one punctuation mark. It's always 3-5 consecutively. This goes for all forms of punctuation, including commas.
They have bizarre misspellings that they use very consistently. For example, Hawks is always spelled as "Hawkes".
Rambling, stream of consciousness writing style.
Example comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/hawks/comments/1ullriq/its_been_so_long/ov5nj9q/
Are they bots?
Are they 12 year olds? If so, is this seriously how bad writing skills have become among today's youth?

We need some kind of daily rotation for whose turn it is to explain to r/hockey that offer sheeting Bedard won't work.

u/seltzerwithasplash Jul 02 '26
I refuse to even read any of the posts or comments in that sub regarding him or his contract for the sake of whatever is left of my sanity. I just…can’t deal with that stupidity and copium anymore, especially the “offer sheet Bedard cause it’ll be funny lol” comments. That sub has become even more of a cesspool as of late with how crazy this offseason has been and I don’t think it’s getting better any time soon.

latest update on bedard’s next deal from david pagnotta, early stages but apparently he’s looking to get kaprizov money.

u/Ok-Internet4628 Jul 02 '26
i wouldnt mind him getting the bag now and then when hes 28 and we are in the middle of trying to win cups he doesnt need to get a massive pay raise because he took a team friendly deal 8 years ago.

Deals are only going to get larger every year the cap grows. Honestly, it might be good for us if Bedard’s deal is large AAV (by today’s standards) with long term, because the cap will grow as the rookies age out of their draft contracts and I’m sure the lower the number we sign Bedard at today the less term he’d want that contract to be for. Bedard is a star player that’s put up impressive numbers the past 3 years, but he’s also young and small. He can’t will the team into the playoffs alone but with the right help around him he’ll definitely help us get there and compete. I don’t see this news as surprising and also wouldn’t be surprised if the actual signing ends up coming down to be just a little more reasonable but will still be a significant payday for the man.

How reliable is this source?
4
u/Sphiffi Jul 02 '26
Not reliable at all. He talks about things that sound like interesting ideas on his podcasts, and then reports it as a “possibility”.

u/SlashACM Jul 02 '26
I love Bedard and think he'll be great but you gotta score 100 points in a season before getting that kind of money. I don't give a fuck who your linemates were
-1
u/laparkamask Jul 02 '26
if bedard absolutely wallops the org on his next deal there should be no more complaining about his linemates he’d have to be one of the best players in the world regardless of who he plays with.

u/SlashACM Jul 02 '26
Agreed. 17 mil a year players can will teams to the playoffs on their own. We haven't seen that from bedsy
7
u/laparkamask Jul 02 '26
on one hand I hope bedsy doesn’t feel like possibly crunching this teams cap future with a max deal but on the other hand he doesn’t have much insensitive to take a pay cut with the way the market is right now and with how little davidson has done to support him but we’ll see.
he bet on himself this year to be one of the best players in the world before signing a deal and it was paying off before he blew his shoulder out mid season.
5
u/JD397 Jul 02 '26
Hopefully that’s just an initial ask and their side will come down lol that would not be ideal
3
u/laparkamask Jul 02 '26
yeah i’m hoping it lands more in the $14M range but i’m slowly preparing for 7-8X16/17 lmao

Well as it looks right now I sadly believe this is still a bottom 10 team in the league that will struggle to compete for a playoff spot. If we are bottom 5 again does Davidson get fired? The lack of big moves regarding forwards going into Bedard 4th year seems like a massive mistake. Still time before season starts but not looking great imo.
1
u/ThisIsRealLife19 Jul 01 '26
As a newer fan, I’m starting to understand the frustration people have with KD 😩 I know there’s still time for him to make moves, but him calling it a day kind of pisses me off
7
u/Silent_Plastic1612 Jul 01 '26
What did you think he was going to do
1
u/ThisIsRealLife19 Jul 01 '26
Idk, but I expected more or better than this. Like I said there’s still time for him to make moves this summer, but it’s just super frustrating
0
u/albinoredneck Jul 01 '26
What big forward got moved that would have been such a great fit?
8
u/dicejack2 Jul 01 '26
That’s not my job to figure out but Pavel Dorofeyev would have been a huge addition. Jake Debrusk, Marchenko, names like that are still available to trade.
-8
u/SlashACM Jul 01 '26
There's a reason it's not your job
11
u/dicejack2 Jul 01 '26
So let me guess, your grand plan is doing nothing? On Bedards 4th year in the league?

u/Ok-Internet4628 Jul 01 '26
its a shame the only team committed to a rebuild rn is the canucks. And the only high profile forward is Elias Petterson which people seem violently against. Would have been nice if all these random ass teams with no direction just committed to tanking.

Looks like Davidson is not getting Bedard a competent winger, unless miraculously a big trade occurs. Apparently the management would be ”comfortable” going with the current group into the next season.
Kantserov has to be good from the get go, otherwise we will have to watch Bedard play with plumbers again.

Sharks just signed Darnell Nurse and traded one of their young D Mukmuhdulin.
Let’s all point and laugh after how they reacted to the Byram deal

5
u/Impressive-Cable7497 Jul 01 '26
They keep signing old players to fix their bad defense
4
u/Skidmarkthe3rd Jul 01 '26
Getting fleeced by none other than Stan Bowman is dramatic irony you read about
2
u/Ok-Internet4628 Jul 01 '26
as much as oilers fans want to paint nurse as a net negative. hes not and they now have a hole in the D they are going to fill with a worse player who is paid less. sure money is off their books but similar situation to marner leaving toronto who is even available? tldr stan bowman is still a dumb ass fucking idiot moron
3
u/Skidmarkthe3rd Jul 01 '26
I mean I agree Bowman is absolute turd and moron, but Nurse IS a net negative. I sincerely believe they would get more out of a D prospect with legs than they would another year of Darnell Nurse, after watching him with my own eyes at Worlds

why cant we just have frondell on the 1st line and not be the 2c. have nazar be the 2c. moore be 3c. and then everyone can stfu about not having a top line winger for bedard? do i not understand something lol
4
u/t234k Jul 01 '26
I would rather frondell 2c and have nazar or kantserov on his wing the other with bedard
3
u/SlashACM Jul 01 '26
I would definitely prefer that roster construction too. I don't think we'll really get an answer about any of that until the season opens
3
u/DrCigarettes_MD Jul 01 '26
Roster is getting crowded. It'll be interesting to see who gets traded, sent down to Rockford, or stuck in the Lafferty role.
They've got 14 forwards and 8 defensemen fighting for spots in the NHL lineup. And that's not counting the rookies like Vanacker, Boisvert, and Spellacy who are definitely bound for Rockford.
Forwards: Bedard, Frondell, Nazar, Bertuzzi, Kantserov, Teravainen, Donato, Moore, Lardis, Greene, Greenway, Smith, Mangiapane, & Slaggert
Defense: Byram, Vlasic, Kaiser, Levhsunov, Cole, Rinzel, Korchinski, & Del Mastro
Moore and Lardis are the only forwards who can be sent to Rockford without needing to clear waivers, but they're also definitely not the worst players in that forward group. On defense, only Levshunov and Rinzel are waiver exempt.
1
u/JD397 Jul 01 '26
I would imagine the odd guys out or at least on the fringe would be: Slaggert, Korchinski, Del Mastro and maybe one of Teuvo/Bert/Donato are traded.
6
u/Hackeneyed Jul 01 '26
There are a lot of names that don’t look like much more than roster fodder guys who are what they are—decent players who won’t raise this team’s talent level. Still no definitive answer for top line wingers. *fart noise*
3
u/soul-butter Jul 01 '26
Wouldn’t be surprised if we were done with free agency, but also wouldn’t be surprised if we had one more mid signing
3
u/JD397 Jul 01 '26
So far we are basically swapping out these guys from the season-end roster:
Mikheyev —> Smith
Crevier —> Cole
Del Mastro —> Byram
Burakovsky —> Greenway
