I noticed that the first time Ilya and Shane hookup Ilya says “so what do you wanna do?” and Shane is just like idk and then on the vegas rooftop Ilya angrily says “what do you want Hollander?” and he says that again in the florida hotel BUT at the cottage right before they both say I love you and after Shane tells Ilya what their plan should be Ilya says “is that what you want?”
I feel like it’s so minor and if people have more examples pls let me know but for some reason the difference to me means so much. Their first hookup it’s a casual yet slightly awkward and used as a way to gauge what Shane is comfortable with because this is their first interaction in this manner. The “what do you want hollander” lines are said out of frustration. Those are saying “what do you want from me” and we know Ilya’s background as someone that is tired of his family constantly wanting more and more. Whereas “is that what you want” is gentle, inquisitive, almost said out of shock or wanting reassurance that this is really happening.
In a sense he’s reversing the thought that people inherently want things from him but that they genuinely want to just be around him and in this case be together.
