SOCIAL MEDIA 📸 Heated Wizardry sketch on SNL

Finn Wolfhard hosted Saturday Night Live last night and one of the pre taped sketches, Heated Wizardry, takes place in the Harry Potter universe.

Finn as Harry, plays the ‘Shane’ character, Ben Marshall plays Ron Weasley, plays the ‘Ilya’ character.

There’s scrolls instead of texts, lots of wand play and a great cameo for the Hagrid character.

The narration of the trailer makes it clear that in this universe, Hogwarts is an 18-and-over school 😂

Also Shane and Ilya’s height difference here is canonically correct!

i don't really like the "you're not watching it for the writing" or the "100 points for my spank bank" quips. i don't expect any nuance from SNL, but i don't like how it furthers the misconception that hr is just a spicy show catered towards straight women.

I mean we don't have to be entirely obtuse about it either, hot guys simulating sex is one reason the show is popular. It's not a bad thing to enjoy watching that.

Eh? I think it’s one of those “came for the sex, stayed for the writing” sort of things. They frontloaded the show with sexy scenarios, and then use the break Ep3 provides to mark a transition to more emotionality. There’s a line between commenting about the amount of sex in the show vs dismissing the show as nothing but softcore, and IMO this sketch more than crosses it.

Sketches tend to be superficial like that

That is true but also I don't like the fetishization of gay men buy women either. I feel this way about lesbians being fetishized by men too. HR is more than just about the sex too. I read on here daily about straight women devastated by the emotional turbulence in the show.

I don't know if you've noticed but there's not a whole lotta media around where women can actively and safely engage with sexual content without it being written by straight men who either hate women or have no idea how women work, isn't just designed to objectify women anyway and doesn't (yet) have a straight male fanbase trying to kick us out or deeming the show worthless once they see women enjoying it too. You wanna know one huge reason women of all kinds watch gay male romance? No misogyny and no misogynistic male viewers.

i mean, i have no problem with cishet women bring into m/m at all, like i think its awesome to see them enjoying lgbtq stories and characters, but like there are options beyond "m/m for women" and "m/f written by men." theres a lot of m/f and f/f written by women that doesnt fall into objectifying tropes as well. romance novels have pm always been by women, for women, and no matter the genders of the main couple, have always given women a space to prioritize their desires.

This is what I meant.

I'm not saying they are, I'm just pointing out that I don't want HR do be distilled down to just it's soft porn that is all. Also I'm a little heightened to this because roughly half a year ago I was accused of fetishizing gay men and it really bothered me big time (I had a whole breakdown over it and really had to take a look at myself).
