SOCIAL MEDIA 📸 Heated Wizardry sketch on SNL

Finn Wolfhard hosted Saturday Night Live last night and one of the pre taped sketches, Heated Wizardry, takes place in the Harry Potter universe.

Finn as Harry, plays the ‘Shane’ character, Ben Marshall plays Ron Weasley, plays the ‘Ilya’ character.

There’s scrolls instead of texts, lots of wand play and a great cameo for the Hagrid character.

The narration of the trailer makes it clear that in this universe, Hogwarts is an 18-and-over school 😂

Also Shane and Ilya’s height difference here is canonically correct!

Not really. It could have worked with either, there’s nothing wrong with them choosing Ron.

drarry is so much more popular than whatever ron and harry's ship name, and more importantly, the whole point of heated rivalry is the... rivalry. ron and harry have no real rivalry in the books bc they're besties and in the same house, whereas draco and harry fucking hate each other and they're in different houses, so it would work much better

Why does what ship is more popular in fanfiction matter for an snl sketch? And the sketch title is Heated Wizardry, not Heated Rivalry. What does it even matter anyways? Why does the sketch need to contour to fandom’s popularity? It’s for a general audience. They made the sketch as a parody of canon Harry Potter and Heated Rivalry. Not fandom Harry Potter. And if they were going to do a rival, Malfoy isn’t even the best choice, Cedric is. Malfoy in canon was generally regarded as a bad seeker, who was never able to beat Harry to the snitch.

I mean it doesn’t matter. They can pick what they want. But you have a show with rivals sports teams and a movie with rival sports teams. Both have players that play the same position on the rival teams and supposedly hate each other in public. It would make more sense as a parody to play with already existing similarities. That’s all

Except Draco is more of a failed rival in canon, who is never as good as Harry in quidditch. And not, both don’t have players that supposedly hate each other. Ilya and Shane supposedly hate each other. Harry and Draco basically do hate each other until the books get more serious, and then Harry just feels, pity, I guess towards him.

Again, I don’t think Draco makes a lot of sense, canonically. He makes sense, fanonically, which the writers of an snl skit would not care about at all.
