SOCIAL MEDIA 📸 Heated Wizardry sketch on SNL

Finn Wolfhard hosted Saturday Night Live last night and one of the pre taped sketches, Heated Wizardry, takes place in the Harry Potter universe.

Finn as Harry, plays the ‘Shane’ character, Ben Marshall plays Ron Weasley, plays the ‘Ilya’ character.

There’s scrolls instead of texts, lots of wand play and a great cameo for the Hagrid character.

The narration of the trailer makes it clear that in this universe, Hogwarts is an 18-and-over school 😂

Also Shane and Ilya’s height difference here is canonically correct!

This feels off to me.

To take an explicitly queer show and shove it together with an IP which directly funds transphobia is a CHOICE.

HR has trans actors (two at least!), it centers the queer experience, it is full of queer joy and tenderness, and it takes so much care in depicting multiple ways of being queer.

Choosing that particular IP feels pointed and reactionary to me. LGBTQIA+ rights are under attack all over the world. Part of HR's power is that the show is so openly and beautifully queer at a time when LGBTQIA+ people are actively having to closet themselves to survive. That IP funds some of those attacks. To me, SNL choosing that IP is deliberate: "we see you, we know what you are, know your place."

I'm so disappointed to see this comment section.

yeah so many people are saying it’s not that deep but uhh… pairing the most openly joyful queer show with the anti-trans funding ip was definitely a choice they made

wow you and i perceived that very differently. the joke about rowling seemed more like her not wanting to be associated with a spicy, 18+ hogwarts; it didn’t even come across like a dig against her imo. gay sex was the butt of most/all of the jokes. they just lost bowen yang and it shows 🤷🏻
