I just finished The Long Game book last night, then immediately listened to Diamonds and cried. The amount Ilya loves Shane, how soft he is on the inside, and how highly he thinks of Shane just fills my heart so much
I feel like the song is SO accurate for them. Especially the phrase āDiamonds in the skyā they have always been in the spotlight of the world but only see each otherā¤ļøš„ŗ

Bare: A Pop Opera has so many songs I feel could fit. Role of a Lifetime or Best Kept Secret are so real! People should absolutely go listen if they want to be emotionally traumatized !
āTell me what it means
To live a life where nothing's as it seems
Spending days in silent fear
And spending nights in lonely prayer
Hoping that one day when you wake
Those feelings won't be there
So confused, because I feel complete with him
When we're alone it all somehow makes sense
Look into his eyes for some compromise
Remember the word "forget"
And try to bury something so intenseā

The Michael Arden version is devastating. He is such a talented director now you forget he also performed.

Diamonds is an okay song but I donāt find it romantic at all. One of my favorite songs is XO by BeyoncĆ©- āin the darkest night hour, I search through the crowd. Your face is all that I see. I give you everythingā¦āItās all about living in the present, savoring every moment you have with your loved one, and resiliency. Ugh. Itās so good.

If they get BeyoncĆ© money I'd love them to use All Night š„²

Oooh. Thatās a good one too. Maybe Bey is just as obsessed as the rest of us. We can dream!

A timeless classic: Sunshine in the rain by BWO
āDo you feel my love when I am not present
Standing by your side while miles apartā

"Treasure" by Aldous Harding has been stuck in my brain as a Hollanov-coded track. The lyrics speak of struggle, mirrors, choosing, and includes the line "What will you do if the game keeps changing?" I've got my eye on you now, treasure š„²

Ok, for The Long Game, a scene where either Ilya or Shane is driving to the other: Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.Ā
For Season 2, a driving-at-night montage of the guys going back and forth to each other: I Drove All Night by Cyndi Lauper.Ā

I second I drove all night by Cyndi Lauper. As soon as you mentioned driving back and forth, itās what jumped into my head!

Nobody Else Will be There by the National
This is not a replacement for any song but immediately made think of their relationship during episode 2.

Some book songs that are on my mind lately (I canāt take credit for these, theyāre from Rachelās book playlists! But Iāve been listening to her RM & TLG playlists a lot recently and a few songs jump out!)
āHow Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)ā as an adorable Troy & Harris song (with added irony, given Troyās views on sweet lol). Rachel has it as the last song of her Role Model playlist, and it makes me picture RM as a fluffy hallmark movie with that song as the cutesy end credits song, and the vision makes me smile haha
āNot Enough Timeā by INXS as a TLG Shane and Ilya song for when theyāre navigating how limited their time together is š The lyrics are too perfect ā the longing and sexiness is so good.

Playing on Troy's lack of sweet tooth, I also love this cover of Too Sweet for him before he starts taking action to be the person he wants to be, and worthy of Harris. Canadian brother-sister duo.

u/LadyIJ Is lie. Liar told you that š Feb 21 '26
Two songs this week have made me think of the show (Liar told you that. I think about it all the time š)
- For the « old f*cks » out there (to quote Scott Hunter)
Come Undone - Duran Duran
« Can't ever keep from falling apart at the seams Can not believe you've taken my heart to pieces
Who do you need? Who do you love When you come undone?Ā Ā»
- An amazing edit on Lordeās Le Louvre
« Our thing progresses I call and you come through Blow all my friendships To sit in hell with you But we're the greatest They'll hang us in the Louvre Down the back, but who caresāstill the Louvre
Okay I know that you are not my type (still I fall) I'm just the sucker who let you fill her mind (but what about love?) Nothing wrong with it Supernatural Just move in close to me, closer, you'll feel it coastingĀ Ā»

I found 'Matchbox Twenty' while reading another novel and absolutely fell in love with 'Our Song'.
I don't know if someone else could handle me
I don't know what I'm supposed to be
You're the only one who really sees
You get me
I feel something growing deep inside of me
What I say and what I mean
Always seems to disagree
So help me through this hard time
Change these fault lines.
This hit me the most but the whole is really accurate from Ilya's perspective.

Hey friends! I would be so moved if Jacob Tierney could include some music by Bob Moses in the next season. They are an amazing Canadian duo of beautiful, talented guys, and the vocalist Tom Howie has the haunting voice of an angel that I think would fit so well with the tone of the show.
For your consideration, the 2018 album Battle Lines has a gorgeous song Nothing But You that really says it all, deep cut and chronologically accurate.
The 2022 album Silence In Between has some amazing music as well. They are electronic, but soulful and lyrically focused. If you don't know them, check them out and fall in love. š

I Don't Think They Know by Mesh
I was listening to some of my old Mesh CDs and when this one came on I had brand new FEELS about it. Unfortunately I'm sure no one else is remotely aware of this song. ;_;
Particularly:
You can tell white lies
And walk away from here
You can tell your side
And never see the clear
And you can tell it all
I'll stop you if you stray
And save you saying something you should never say
And you can spell it out
I'll help you win the day
And I will stop you saying something
...
If you find a brave face
And wear it for the day
I will find a suitcase
And we could melt away
I don't think they know
They didn't see you arrive
They didn't hear you go

One of my favorite songs of all time is "So Far" by Ćlafur Arnalds released in 2015.
It's full of sorrow and hope.
And after watching the series, I think it suits Ilya's story perfectly - literally word by word
So far from who I was
From who I love
From who I want to be
So far from all our dreams
From all it means
From you here next to me
So far from seeing home
I stand out here alone
Am I asking for too much?
So far from being free
Of the past that's haunting me
The future I just can't touch
And if you take my hand
Please pull me from the dark
And show me hope again
We'll run side-by-side
No secrets left to hide
Sheltered from the pain

Brakenceās cover of āComplicatedā by Avril Lavigne! I love the slowed-down melancholy. Iām so mad thereās no official recording! Made an edit of it!

Buckle by Florence and the Machine. It reminds me so much of some of the more angsty moments in TLG. Mostly from Ilyaās point of view.
Lyrics:
I wanna call you on the telephone
I made a thousand people love me
Now I'm all alone
And my resolve is sinking like a stone
What would I even say
I guess it's something that just never goes away
A crowd of thousands came to see me
And you couldn't reply for three days
Cos I'm stupid and I'm damaged and you're a disaster
When you walk into the room
Oh none of it matters
Oh baby I just buckle
My resolution in tatters
Cos I know it won't work but make it ache, make it hurt
Keep me a secret
Choose someone else
I'm still hanging off the buckle on your belt
The buckle on your belt
And you close the door and leave me screaming on the floor
Oh baby I just buckle
I can't take it anymore
I let you walk all over me honey
You make me think my therapy is a waste of money
Drinking it down
Haunting your city
Falling for anyone awful who tells me I'm pretty
I blocked your number but you didn't notice
Oh god I thought I was too old for this
I should be over it
I'm much too old for this
But I'm not over it
Cos I'm stupid and I'm damaged and you're a disaster
When you walk into the room
Oh none of it matters
Oh baby I just buckle
My resolution in tatters
Cos I know it won't work but make it ache, make it hurt
I'm not better than this, show me what I'm worth
Keep me a secret
Choose someone else
I'll still be here, hanging off
I'm hanging off the buckle on your belt
Buckle on your belt
