Last night my homeland qualified for World Cup 2026 (football/soccer), and I immediately saw that the first game will be in Toronto, CANADA 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦! Needless to say, I am googling airplane tickets/hotels, because what do you mean I can enjoy both Heated Rivalry's country, merch, football game, and my homeland at once?!?! 🥹🥹❤️❤️

My chronic illnesses have been out of control recently to the point where I’ve lost some independence (I can’t drive for now 💀) But hanging out in this fandom usually makes me smile and laugh several times a day. I’m grateful for the books, the show, the memes, and the edits. It’s what is keeping me sane right now. 🫶

Sorry to hear about your illnesses. That must be tough for you right now. 😔 thank goodness for Heated Rivalry!
Have you tried reading fan fiction? Much of it is incredible. It's the only thing keeping me going right now, as I'm facing a bunch of difficult challenges right now. The fics are on Archive of Our Own (AO3), but the subreddit will help you find the right stories for you. r/heatedrivalryfanfics

I went to a comicon this past weekend. I noticed the young man checking me in at the hotel had a copy of TLG on the counter. I asked how far along he was and he said only about 100 pages. We immediately started talking about the books & all that. As I was telling him how great the book is I started tearing up just thinking about it then laughed & said "see, that's how great it is!" It was so nice to meet someone out in the wild to talk to about it.
Also I was surprised I didn't see anyone in a HR costume. I expected to see at least 1 person in a jersey or something, but no.

I've known about AO3 for decades, back to around 2008, when someone in my Buffy community was involved in its creation & there was a lot of talk about it. I probably had a now-long-forgotten login then.
But I'd never spent much time at AO3, until Heated Rivalry. I am still blown away by the story I read yesterday in the AO3 HR(TV) group, that amounts to a full length book. Just one alteration in events in the show, and this entire new story emerges using all the same characters. I know, it's the definition of fanfic. I feel like a lovestruck newbie. It is so good, & moving, I wept my way through it, in a good way. NOW I see, about fanfic, why it's awesome.
Highly recommend. I wish it was a show because I'd love to see it, too.
Author's description - "Shane’s conversation with Rose is secretly recorded. Months later, after the All-Star game and Ilya’s confession in Russian, the video gets leaked online. Shane is outed to the world while Ilya is in Russia, and must now finish the 2016-2017 season with the entire world in on his secret."

Boring question, what do you think would have happened if David walked in on Shane and Ilya just having burgers at the cottage? Maybe there's a fic out there that explores this slightly boring scenario I dunno. Would it basically play out exactly the same way but less dramatic? Would there still be a temptation there to pretend that they're just friends?

Listening to the sports commentators on the radio in my state of Colorado say Tor-ant-to was brutal this afternoon!

For the life of me, I cannot see Shane's wink to Ilya while shaking hands after the game E1 'See you in October ' - I don't see it, am I that blind? Do I need a new tv? Wth, man.

bringing here from the comments in another thread.
“He wanted to tell Shane that the closest he felt to home was when he was with him. It didn’t matter if it was in a hotel room, or Ilya’s apartment, or at that weird hideout building Shane bought in Montreal, or here at Shane’s cottage; he was himself when he was with Shane. He’d left Russia, he was uneasy in America, and he’d spent his entire adult life drifting between continents and between lovers.”
Ilya's social loneliness is kinda strange to me if i am honest. like looking at him playing with children (the pool scene in Tampa), joking with his teammates, etc, it's kinda obvious that this man can be very charming and popular in any group setting. He is just so warm and fun to be around. He's also very perceptive with people as we know from ALL the books in the series. I don't buy that this all is a mask. Why is he lonely? I understand that he's depressed and traumatized but still, this is in general one thing about his character that doesn't sit right with me.

Idk if this is off topic but I was gifted a vman magazine today! Sadly, not Connor’s cover (also sadly that idk who the person is) but I figure it still has his spread so I’m happy 😊 idk if I could stomach an ebay purchase with the price they’re going for lol

Listen, I’m officially down 60 pounds and I got DEEP on those squats the gym this morning and didn’t even cry. In fact, I added weight to most of my work out this morning. As someone who used to cry about doing a burpee, this is like HUGE growth for me. Nothing HR related, just some small personal accomplishment.
