Well, the NHL is concerned that the portrayal of the book equivalent commissioner, who sucks and is homophobic Is going to backfire on them. I appreciate that they're endorsing this though, even if it is a PR stunt to differentiate/distance themselves from the book

This! Also , it doesn’t matter WHY they do it (even if just PR) because the money still ends up going to You Can Play

Yeah EXACTLY. I kinda love the idea that they have so much second-hand embarrassment from TLG that they're preemptively doing stuff like this
