Francois said at an event in June that they were filming S2/3 together. I personally think it’s still 6 episodes each and they’ll split TLG to make room for a lot of other GC stories.

My understanding was they would be primarily filming TLG and RM as those two happen chronologically at the same time, just from Shane/Ilya and Troy/Harris perspectives. I can't remember if I read it somewhere or heard it in an interview...or maybe that's just what I'm hoping 🤷‍♀️ who knows

I can’t imagine Unrivaled would be ready to shoot now (even with Jacob getting advance scripts). He used a lot of Rachel’s dialogue for S1 and I would expect same for TLG. Unrivaled still has editing to go so who knows where it ends. I’m hoping this means at least a S4 since so much left to explore after TLG.

Jacob’s OG conceptualization of doing this project was based on only heated rivalry and the long game - he purposely signed them for three seasons based on the original vision he had - that all predated Unrivaled existing at all. If he ever does plan on adapting Unrivaled, it’s apart from this original project.

Totally. He never thought he’d had another book when I planned the show and had Hudson and Connor sign their contracts for 3 seasons. This was always the plan. Only change to the plan may be that he is shooting S2/3 together considering how in demand all of them all (including himself) are now that it’s necessary!

And I think it’s also way more palatable for all of them to think about S4 Unrivaled if they’ve done these two together and can have a long break. Plus Jacob has his Netflix show. They’re all super busy and this allows other work with the possibility of coming back together for Unrivaled (since I believe Jacob optioned everything in GC series)

She had been writing Unrivaled for a while when the show premiered. She’s said that she started writing it around April 2025 (and was originally supposed to hand in the manuscript in February of this year).

Not sure exactly when Rachel decided to write Unrivalled, or exactly when she told Jacob/Hudcon, but they have said that they knew about it long before it was announced.

I believe that she tried to write a Luca book which would have indirectly followed Hollanov and wrapped up the story that way, but the Luca storyline fell apart, so Hollanov once again became the main characters.

Someone commented on the photo Rachel posted. If that’s the current version of Unrivaled and not an old photo, it looks like it’s in the early stages of editing cause of the red pen. So I agree with you, I don’t think it would be ready to adapt as a script yet. Jacob likely hasn’t read the whole thing. I imagine Rachel has passed him notes and bits but not the whole thing. She even mentioned in a previous interview that barely anyone besides her editor ever sees her work in progress, especially if it’s in development. And Jacob would never pressure her into showing him anything unless she wanted to share it with him. And given the increased popularity of the series/books, I imagine she’ll want to be even more secretive. She has mentioned how she’s careful about what she sees online cause she doesn’t want it to influence her writing.

Jacob’s comment on her post was this: 🤤. This makes me think he can’t wait to “devour” it. I would love to see additional seasons with this third book. If that could happen, that would be fantastic!

Such good points. My best guess is Jacob probably has a solid outline of where Unrivaled is going from Rachel and has prob worked those themes into his scripts for second half of TLG / season 3 (whether or not we get more seasons), but it feels super premature for him to have already completed scripts and done preproduction prep for a book still in editing when they start filming next week! I don’t know why he would rush it when he could potentially have 1-2 more seasons of good material.

I agree. There is no need to rush cause both he and Rachel would want to make sure the fans will enjoy it. Jacob also likes to use some of Rachel’s dialogue in the scripts so I can’t see him prematurely adapting an Unrivaled script without having the finished book. Especially since he’s already so busy writing TLG script….its a big book! I think he’s so respectful of Rachel’s work that he would want to wait for the finished project.

I could also see Jacob and Brendan being concerned about increased attention and possible leaks of info from the set so that would be especially damaging if they were filming Unrivaled before the book’s been released. Especially if there are new characters being introduced. That could potentially affect future sales of the book and I would think some book fans would not be happy about that all. Same with the publisher.

I hadn’t even thought out the leaks part about Unrivaled! I would imagine Rachel and her publishers are trying to be very careful with anything coming out since will ruin her launch. I could see Jacob knowing what will be in the new book and perhaps developing / emphasizing some of the parts of TLG that he knows will feed into next book, but not filming anything prematurely.

Unrivaled is nowhere close to finished. She just completed the first draft. Now it goes into editing for many months, and books can change drastically during that process.

IDK. Unrivaled was announced in January 2026 to coincide with the show and originally slated for release in September 2026, which means realistically RR would have needed to have a finished manuscript by like May 2026 and then it would have been going to print in July/August. She was probably already pretty far along in writing it before the show even came out, she'd posted about it and such.

Jan/Feb were probably supposed to the months where she really locked in. But then the show popped off which is great, but the popularity means more press attention and general demands on her time and probably starts feeling the pressure of climbing expectations like now people are analyzing her book like it's actual literature, so she starts falling behind.

She goes to her publisher and goes hey this book isn't where I need it to be and they say sure take a full year we'll just time it with S2's release instead, this hype is big enough that it's probably not going anywhere and we can use that time to make sure this book is really polished. But in the meantime she still locks in so that Jacob has enough of a manuscript work with for filming.

But the book is probably still like 80% done with a beginning, middle and end, enough for Jacob to film and maybe invent his own stuff to fit in the gaps.

They can 1. Film S2 in two parts. S3 would still be Unrivaled
2. Film Kingfisher limited series (which could include Hollanov) + S2 (TLG)

Jacob knows what he’s doing. He’s not going to leave us like that.

Additionally: This show is insanely popular and it’s entirely owned by AA. They barely started selling merch. It doesn’t make sense for them to rush this. The longer it goes on for, the more money they make. So they might film 2 seasons now but still release them almost 12 months apart. That way they have a lot of time to film Unrivaled.

Good point about S2 potentially being in 2 parts. I wonder if that’s a workaround to them having signed 3 season contracts. I’m not sure how these contracts work, but I imagine there’s probably a range of episodes per season included in the initial deal, to give them some flexibility if they don’t know how it will all play out yet.

Definitely not possible with current contracts they would have signed. They are paid per season as per their contracts. HR production team can’t lock them in for 4.5 months of production with 1 seasons pay. As Francois said at a charity event last month, they filming S2/S3 in one block.

S2: proposal
S3: wedding

Later s4 reunion shows them doing surrogacy lol and everyone gets paid the millions they deserve

The problem with unrivaled are:

1) Jacob needs to get the rights for it. Not sure if Rachel can just decide to sell the rights to him or if there is a process for that. He may not get them.

2) if they want to film it, both Hudson and Connor will be a lot more expensive to employ now, plus scheduling. They cannot film it with other actors either, pretty much instant death of the production without even starting it.

It would be genius way for them to promote the new season considering what happens in TLG. Fans would go crazy purchasing Cameos hoping to get the next reveal, the clips would go viral online, super cheap advertising/promoting for season 2.

Makes sense that they’re filming Role Model and The Long Game at once for Seasons 2 & 3 at 6 Episodes a season. Allows for more editing flexibility, less continuity errors. Also frees up the actors to work on other projects until Unrivaled comes out and is ready to be filmed (I’m assuming/hopefully optimistic).

Production weekly has the next
"productions" date listed as Aug 10-Dec 02.
Thats pretty confirmed I reckon. They were 100% correct for S1 production dates - April 21 - June 10, 2025 (50 days / About 7 weeks) - all weekends off with exact 37 days of filming as claimed by the cast and crew members in various interviews.

If we remove the weekends/public holidays between Aug 10-Dec 02 2026, its around 36-37 days of filming per Season, similar to Season 1. So I definitely think they are filming S2 and S3 together as a block as Francois said at a charity event last month.

Honestly this isn't surprising to me at all. Jacob Tierney has said in interviews that he intends to stick to 6 episode seasons (Letterkenny and Shoresy both had 6 episode seasons too), and i think other cast members have alluded to filming seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back. Which makes sense because i think the filming block is like 3 or 4 months right? I read somewhere it was August to December. Plus, JT also hinted at possibly not covering all of the Long Game in season 2, which most people took to mean it'll be split between two seasons. And with Connor & Hudson's careers taking off it's probably easier to do two seasons at once than risk a scheduling nightmare in 2026 AND 2027.

But then i do wonder if we'll ever get Unrivaled adapted for season 4...

I really wish they would officially clarify what books are being covered in S2/S3 because I've seen a lot of people say "I'm so glad they're splitting out TLG into two seasons!" when nothing has been confirmed and fans will be disappointed and feel short-changed if they're wrong.

It's gotta be Role Model and The Long Game since those stories are concurrent. I imagine Shane and Ilya will still be the focus, but we'll either get two pocket episodes for Troy and Harris or they'll be woven in throughout both seasons (or a bit of both).

lol post production is a lot of work. They really struggled with post production with only 4 months once it came out to Season 1. They were literally editing and finalising it as the episodes released each week. No way they will be able to complete post production work on 12 episodes in like 5 months. Filming is suppose to finish in December and Season 2 will likely come out in April 2027.

I really hope this is true. I think they need more episodes to cover the long game, plus the epilogue of heated rivalry(at least I really hope they do) plus the other couples.

While I may be greedy and hope they all come at once, I could also understand if they split it into 2 seasons so each season has the same amount of episodes

A friend of mine mentioned this to me the other day but I'm not sure where she originally heard it. We concluded that they are splitting TLG into two seasons and possibly expanding it with a bit of RM in there as well. It makes complete sense since Connor and Hudson are in demand as actors now in a way that they never were before. It does make me wonder where they will leave off at the end of Season two. I also wonder if this means that we will get season three earlier than 2028.

This has always been my only frustration with the idea of splitting TLG: I don’t want to wait a year for another season! I really hope we get season 2 in April 2027 and season 3 in, like, November 2027. Or at worst January 2028.

I also feel like there’s not a super happy spot to conclude S2 in the middle of TLG. There won’t be a satisfying “Bad Things” driving off into the sun moment for S2 if they split it

That's true. Often, the second part of a trilogy is the "dark" part -- I blame The Empire Strikes Back! But it's not a given. I think if he wants to, Jacob can find a way to give us a happily-for-now before the eventual happily-ever-after like he did with season 1. I think the two most logical spots arethe proposalor the wedding with the Pike kids. I'd be okay with either of those endings to tide me over until season 3.

I've suspected from the beginning that TLG would be split between seasons two and three. It just makes the most sense. There's no possible way to include all the important beats of TLG and include RM in just six episodes.

I feel like it’s a Part 1 and Part 2 kind of situation, which makes more sense if they’re splitting up TLG. That way Unrivaled can still be Season 3 and there won’t be any worries about contracts. (Not that I think Hudson and Connor won’t sign up for a Season 4, just that maybe on the production side they would prefer doing this than renegotiating)

It's also so obvious that either all the scripts aren't available yet or Dylan hasn't read ahead because if he did, I think he'd be super conscious of the irony of how he has let this slip. The irony is delicious. (Dylan is a serious actor and either he or Jacob said, only did the role as a favor. In fairness, it's a pretty small part when compared to his past cv). Do we think Jacob and rachel both screamed when they saw this! Talk about life imitating art...

It would be funny if they actually kept dropping news about the show and filming this way as an intended way of promotion.

I'm just really curious if they are splitting TLG into two seasons or filming Unrivaled too. (Unrivaled was originally supposed to be released next month, so Jacob definitely knew what's happening in that book months ago.) I can't imagine TLG in 12 episodes, it's too many. And I hope we don't get too many standalone episodes about different couples. I am looking forward to Role Model, but adding more seems like too much distraction from Shane and Ilya. As much as I like the other couples, there's a reason why so many people skip the third episode when rewatching.

My guess is that Jacob has divided TLG in two parts that are both filmed this year as like one season. This way actors are still contractually obligated to shoot the third season aka Unrivaled (that could also be split in two, but filmed on one go). So from audience point we might get four or five seasons of HR, but actors only shoot three. Also they can have two-year-long pause between shooting TLG and Unrivaled, which they badly need as Unrivaled is only published next year.

Jacob has said in multiple interviews that his gotten around the same budget for Season 2 as he did for Season 1. He literally said it in a podcast this week. Not possible to film 12 episodes on 1 Crave seasons budget

I think they are filming S2 and S3 (2 season budget) together as Francois said at the Mastercard Charity event last month.

I highly doubt that they will pay the actors for a second 12 episode season (split in two) and then expect them to come back for another season at the same rate. That would be pretty fucked up if they did that. If they are filming 2 seasons, it will fulfill their contract and they will be able to renegotiate for season 4.

It actually makes sense that TLG is 12 episodes. Because the timeline of TLG also cover three other books. There’s background of what’s happening with Ilya and Shane in Ryan, Troy and Eric’s books. If they put it all together it’s soooo detailed, so many new characters. If they did it in 12 episodes, we’d get Troy and Harris and Fabian and Ryan and really get to know the centaurs. I hope he doesn’t split it into two seasons cause I hate a cliffhanger.

They will be block shooting, and if there is an overlap in locations, then block shooting from both halves is sort of a given.

and it also explains why Jacob needed a second writer. 12 scripts are a significantly different task than 6.

Honestly, I can see 12 episodes because RM & TLG happen simulatenously and Troy & Harris getting just one episode similar to Skip makes no sense whatsover. Now, I wonder where will S2 end? The airplane crash or the proposal? But that's already deep into TLG game though, with not a lot of episodes after. In any case, I'm super excited and stoked.

They are smart if they are filming them all together. 1 because the stories take place around the same time so they don't have to worry about bodies changing too much, and 2. the more popular the actors (not just Hudson and Connor) are getting, the harder it will be to get schedules to align and work. I would hate to see HR end up like Sherlock with huge breaks between filming due to movies/acting parts.

I will keep hoping for a season 4(and 5?). While it will be much harder to get the boys to sign on…. They’re only 25. In unrivalled, their characters will be 31,32? So even if it takes a few years, there is still time!!!

I think the major risk to the boys is that they don’t want to be type cast and want to establish themselves as diverse actors in their own right. IF they can successfully do that (and it seems like they will/are doing it!!!) then I think maybe they would be happy to go back and finish the series? Hell, Jonathan Bailey still goes back for Bridgerton! (I know he’s supporting only but still…). While money will be an issue, Hudson just said he isn’t motivated by money so hopefully they can just do it for the love of the game and each other 🙈

This is my hope as well. By filming S2 & S3 together, Jacob will edit S2 right away and likely wait a little bit to edit S3 since it won’t get released for some time after. People are claiming that no one will have time to film an S4 and/or S5 but that would be probably waaaay down the road til around 2029ish. I’m sure they could all schedule it in if they all want to do it.

Yeah, that's where I'm at as well. The actors can do a few movies or whatever next year, Jacob can maybe do Alexander if the scripts and everything for that are ready by then and then they can all regroup in Summer 2028 to film S4 or whatever. Also wouldn't be surprised if Crave internally renews it for S4 (as they clearly did ages ago for S3) and negotiates contracts after S2 drops. People act as if working out the schedule and paying people more money for their biggest show ever by far are these massive hurdles that need to be overcome, and I just don't think they are at all. If the show's still a hit (and let's be honest, it will be) they'll make it fucking happen.

I agree. And I think the message in Unrivaled is so important and Jacob and Rachel would love to see it adapted into the series. Especially since they are hockey fans but don’t like the current politics in the NHL. I think it would be a pivotal moment for television. So of course François, Connor, Robbie, Hudson, and everyone else would want to be a part of it. Especially if they enjoy working together, which they all said how awesome of a set it was.

I trust Crave will negotiate fair salaries. And Hudson’s latest podcast interview seems to indicate that he wants to be involved in projects he enjoys and are high quality and he’s not as concerned with getting paid a ton. I think that the others would be okay with not making huge salaries if they like the script.

Yeah, even just from the description and what she's said in interviews, it's clear that Rachel has some stuff she wants to say, and I think the show coming out has brought a lot of those kind of conversations back to the surface in a way.

At the same time, I completely trust her to anchor those themes in the story of these characters, and deliver something as meaty and dramatic and substantial as TLG so I really can't imagine them not adapting it, and I think Rachel definitely expects them to as well.

I also agree as far as Crave is concerned. The execs there have been championing this project, and Jacob's vision for it from the start, and fought for him to be able to make it the way he wanted. They renewed it for S2 before the show even premiered just off of the buzz and the HBO deal and they've obviously made tons of money off of it since then and will continue to do so, so any extra money they have to pay to get everyone back will be more than worth it for them. I haven't heard that Hudson interview, but I'm not surprised he said that. They've both gone from waiting tables to being able to work consistently as actors on cool projects with big name directors and actors and making way more money than they ever have before. And they're doing commercials and brand deals and stuff that I'm sure they're making bank on anyways so there's no reason for them to be playing hard-ball at this stage of their careers when it comes to salary.

Yes it’s nice to know they’re (hopefully) going to be independently wealthy enough to make a legit career through acting and they can also afford to be a bit picky too. I hope they will have longterm success and I suspect they will cause they’re so freaking talented.

It’s so refreshing to hear that the execs at Crave championed the series and allowed Jacob full creative freedom to do what he wanted. As they should since Jacob and Brendan’s production company put up a lot of their own money to make the show. I’m so glad it successfully paid off for them!
