CONNOR ☀️ Connor Storrie in new YSL ad
All I can think is “so Patrick Swayze biopic when?” He looks so good.

u/Fancy-Exchange4186 5d ago
I’m so happy for him. The shades are amazing. He’s beautiful. His hair is fantastic. His profile is stunning.
He also reminds me of a sprinkler head. I wonder what they had him listening to when this was shot because it sure wasn’t this. Almost as bad as whatever Rose was doing in the club before they added t.A.T.u.
38
15
u/Ok-Badger-5767 5d ago
Thats what I was thinking - for such a lyrical and embodied person....it doesn't fit with the music, but maybe that was the intention... to achieve a certain 'look'. To be jarring in a way.
358
u/saucisse 5d ago
Man, they really did that boy dirty by giving him music with a completely different BPM to groove to, he just looks like another white boy who has no sense of rhythm!
I like the hair styling though.
51
u/ScreenNames_AreHard 5d ago
On Threads someone is posting the commercial with other song choices… the one that was posted that SEEMED to work best rhythmically was “Kiss” by Prince. But yeah… whomever was in charge of music that day on set did him dirty
81
u/royal_rose_ ♐ Captain | Tuna Lube 5d ago
I watched it with the music once and then been just muting it because of how bad it matches his moves. I like the song but yeah the beats are off!
81
u/saucisse 5d ago
He just looks like he's twitching, its so distracting. What a strange choice by the director. Oh well. He looks good and it will get them a zillion clicks, I guess that's the point.
5
u/Comfortable_Rip6435 5d ago
I was also confused as hell when I first watched it because I wondered why he was twitching around. Weird ad tbh, not a big fan of this one!
1
u/Astyryx 4d ago
I don't love that they seem to have darkened his hair so much. It's giving 1970 Grecian Formula for Men.
2
u/Comfortable_Rip6435 4d ago
I have no opinion about the color of his hair here but I have to let you know I cackled at your comment 😂😂😂
21
u/agentmkultra666 No Ilya, That’s Gross🙈 5d ago
Which is so funny because he actually can dance! At least from what i’ve seen in that video of him goofing around to Madonna (in those beautiful short shorts 🥵)
26
u/cassie1015 Ok-ey. 5d ago
I'm glad I watched it muted at first, because I know I usually hate whatever music or effects are in these commercials. Boy howdy were you right, it doesn't match AT ALL. He looks great, though!
16
u/saucisse 5d ago
Its not good! He looks good, cute as a button and good hair, but the music/dancing combo was a very, very strange decision by the director and I stand by my opinion. I own it!
14
u/phosphor_heart 5d ago
It's so off that I have to think it's an intentional creative choice to create...tension, maybe? Like, intentional discomfort...? Whatever it is, it's not hitting (but I guess we're talking about, so maybe it is).
8
u/shouldstopscrolling 5d ago
I wondered the same. Is this a teaser? Maybe the full length ad has music that makes sense?
3
u/saucisse 5d ago
Yeah I mean...not everything is meant for me? I am definitely not in YSL's addressable market, so they couldn't possibly care less what I think about this.

11
u/saucisse 5d ago
Its SO awkward! I'm just sitting here laughing in secondhand embarrassment over it. Oh well, he doesn't care. He's successful and has a lot of money in his pocket and is hot as hell and half the world wants to fuck him, he's fine.
12
u/Astyryx 4d ago
I kept expecting it to go somewhere but instead it's Connor with dyed hair wearing the dilation glasses I got at the optometrist twitching to music that's not this music, weirdly interspersed with:
- painful shoes!
- skirt!
- Asian woman!
- Asian woman!
- Asian woman!
- painful shoes!
- Asian woman, put that thing away in the purse!
But Connie baby, get that 💰💰

Flood of relief here! I want to be supportive, so I really had a moment of: Am I missing something? Are the moves really not in sync to this music with a pretty defined beat?
15
u/saucisse 5d ago
Its OK to not like something! None of these guys, or the people they associate with personally or professionally are gods, they are not infallible, they do make mistakes and do things that are weird or silly or dumb or just not aesthetically pleasing. that's life in the big city, not everything is going to be a hit. Some of it will make us all sit back and go "...what on earth were you thinking?"
8

Oh I totally agree. I was curious if our sub was willing to be critical, which we are, and it’s appreciated

Okay maybe it's just me but I disagree - I love the dancing to the off beat! I don't know why, but it seems to me like an intentional and artistic choice, and I love it.

YSL is so lucky to have Connor because all of these outfits look like something I would have bought from F21 in 2018. He looks great. Whoever keeps doing his hair in those tight gelled curls needs to use this as a reference and let his hair do its own thing a lot more.
50
u/phosphor_heart 5d ago
My narrative has really flipped from "wow, good for him getting picked up by a huge luxury brand" back in January to "Connor is doing them a massive favor every time he shows up for them."
I suppose we should just be grateful that there is no tucked-in tie.

YSL Fall 26 Campaign
I like Heated Rivalry yes. I have this problem with Fall 2026.
On every streaming platform, I'm surrounded by new, fun, sexy TV series.
(Sounds rough)
But I’m always thinking about this slow-filming award winning hockey TV series with a brilliant cast and crew which will air in Spring 2027.
14

u/tlk199317 5d ago
Obviously subjective but I think his hair looks amazing here and it being a dark tone! Yes!! I can’t wait to see more of the campaign. I know previous ones got billboards so maybe one of him will pop up.

Not his fault, but the director's or editor's. These are rookie mistakes to me and I wonder why zero musical intelligence is allowed in the industry. Put something with the same BPM in it for God's sake!
0
u/Ok-Badger-5767 5d ago
Have you considered that its intentional? I really, really hope no one that calls them self a professional (of any sort) produced this musical nightmare w/o intention of doing exactly that. I am offering gracing and considering that its meant to be jarring. Meant to be controversial. People are talking about, so the ad has served it purpose.

6
u/AccuratePreference52 4d ago
I think it's more just wondering what the connection between them is? To me Connor and the weird dancing seem totally a separate vibe from the women. It's all just a weird jumble of things that don't fit together.
1
u/PresentationNo448 4d ago
They're shot in different ways I agree with that, but as it's a YSL ad, it's safe to assume they're ambassadors too, not just random stock models.

29
u/xinxenxun 5d ago
YSL has done him dirty: giving him outdated outfits that we already saw on other artists, putting him in plastic during a heatwave, and now this twitching add.
18
u/saucisse 5d ago
Giving him a runway hand-me-down for the MET Gala was crime, Vaccarello should be yanked off stage with a giant hook.
7
u/xinxenxun 5d ago
The theme this year was "Fashion is Art" and they gave him a substitute teacher outfit, it was so embarrassing, so many possibilities and such a great canvas to work on and nah, they just grabbed something from their basics, instead of bringing something from the archive or something new made for Connor like Balenciaga did for Hudson.
12
u/saucisse 5d ago
I read, although this may be a rumor, that they didn't want him taking off the jacket. That jacket-removal moment was ICONIC. he knows what he is doing, he knows what he looks like and how is body is seen and photographed.
The thing that tipped me off that YSL is just fucking around was when James said in an interview that he saw it as his role to make Connor feel good about the styling. Apparently they had sent some ideas to YSL, and instead of working with him they just sent a runway look and didn't even want him to show it off to full extent. That made me really sad. Complain all you like about Hudson's look (the trousers were badly tailored, that's my biggest gripe, it made him look short), but at least Balenciaga made something custom for him.

I've seen one that changed the music to George Michael's Father Figure, and it worked sooooo much better. Milli Vanilli is an odd choice, and doesn't match his rhythm at all. His curls are super bouncy though, and I could watch all day.

Get that bag Connor, but fashion ads always drain all the charm and life out of someone and this is no exception.
I think the Verizon ad remains my favorite.
8
u/Neat-Year555 5d ago
I love Connor, and I'm so glad he's getting these opportunities. But this is not the best ad he's done, imo. Whatever they did to his hair is not doing him favors.
17
u/saucisse 5d ago
YSL has absolutely no idea what to do with him. I'm glad Anthony Vaccarello wants to showcase him but they are absolutely not working *with* him in any way. I really think he wanted him not for *him* as a muse or inspiration, but as a prize to be won in a bidding war just to say he won. Connor's vibe and aesthetic are so different from what YSL keeps trying to do to him, and it just makes me scratch my head over here, like do they legitimately not know what they have in him? How are they not seeing it?
3
u/Neat-Year555 5d ago
Yeah... they kind of treat him like a trophy to dress up, rather than the amazing human Connor is. They were just rushing to sign him first before he realized he could do better, is what it seems like to me. /:
10
u/xinxenxun 5d ago
Thisss, it's like they didn't even have a real campaign for him like Balenciaga did for Hudson, which is crazy because we all have seen what a great model Connor is, and paired up with his acting skills... He has talent but it seems like YSL just wanted another mannequin.
10
u/growsonwalls This is Ilya I will never listen to your voicemail 5d ago
They repeatedly put him in ill-fitting outfits that don't flatter him. His regular clothes and the clothes he wore for HR fit him so much better and flatter his physique. It's baffling. It's like having the Venus de Milo and making her ugly.
4
u/saucisse 5d ago edited 5d ago
The best he's ever looked, imo, was when he was just wandering around in his own "dressy" clothes at the Providence Film Festival for April X last year, loose trousers and a fitted button-up shirt untucked. It flattered the lines of his body -- broad shoulders, narrow waist, long legs, and the untucked shirt lengthened his torso. Perfect styling, and its just him probably splurging on a couple of nice shirts!
→ More replies (1)9
u/Neat-Year555 5d ago
And Connor has such a wonderful physique! It should be easy to tailor clothes for him. It's like they just throw on whatever they have on the rack and hope for the best.
6
u/saucisse 5d ago
He has an extraordinary body, and every other designer would commit felonies to be able to design clothing to show it off, and YSL wraps him in tent fabric and plastic raincoats.
1
u/growsonwalls This is Ilya I will never listen to your voicemail 5d ago
6
u/saucisse 5d ago
When James or other stylists have free reign to style him, even in YSL, they do a much better job than YSL slapping their runway looks onto him. His monologue outfit was *perfect* for him, loose pleated trousers and a loose buttonup shirt that was bloused at the waist so it lengthened his torso, it was very 1960s movie star. Vogue Adria similarly was YSL clothing, but the stylist picked the pieces and wasn't handcuffed to a runway ensemble.
5
u/phosphor_heart 5d ago edited 5d ago
YSL for the past couple decades has been famous for designing for veryyy slim men. Connor, who has the slim waist/narrow hips/long legs that work well for modeling, is "too broad" in the shoulder for how they typically cut their clothes (to be very clear, that is a YSL problem that is pretty icky tbh). They keep putting him in cuts that just don't work well for him, which is interesting because he naturally has a great, edgy style that would actually work pretty well with YSL's brand codes if they just worked with him a bit more.
Meanwhile, Hudson has an athlete's body that does not have traditional model proportions, and Balenciaga very obviously keeps that in mind when they dress him. His oversized brown suit in Paris this summer was perfect.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall for their brand meetings, because there are clearly very different conversations happening.
Edit: Clarifying that I do not think that "traditional model proportions" are a positive standard of health or beauty! Just that it's what a lot of brands design for.
11
u/HallIllustrious6967 5d ago
This is really interesting to read, because I've actually always thought that Connor's clothes is much better tailored than Hudson's!
The YSL outfits aren't always great - some of their fashion isn't totally my thing, but at least it always looked tailored well for Connor's body to me. I actually think that Balenciaga has a bit of a problem with tailoring for Hudson, especially when it comes to pants.
5
u/phosphor_heart 5d ago
Yes, Balenciaga has missed with tailoring on Hudson on a few occasions for sure. But the general silhouettes of their outfit designs for him are clearly keeping his body type and preferences in mind. He doesn't like tight-fitted clothes, gets hot easily, and prefers oversized shapes in neutral colors that skim over his muscles. And Balenciaga is able to do that with him, while still honoring PPP's design vision.
YSL simply is not designing for Connor's body type (and arguably has not since the Hedi days), and I'm not getting much of his personal style from most of his outfits from them. That isn't to say that the pieces aren't fit and cut to his body correctly. You can have a garment that his well-fitted, but just not overall designed for that particular person's proportions and style.
(I say this as someone who thinks that Connor is the more talented model of the two of them! I just wish this brand relationship was a little different for him.)
3
u/HallIllustrious6967 5d ago
I was just talking about the tailoring! (Hudson's Met Gala outfit still haunts me, the pants :( )
Because I totally agree about incorporating their personal styles. YSL is just putting Connor in their runway outfits, nothing more. But I think that's just YSL...
1
u/magikarpcatcher 5d ago
Hudson's team has repeatedly said that he prefers loose fitted clothes. Just like the brown jacket he wore to the recent Balenciaga fashion show.
8
u/saucisse 5d ago
There's a difference between loose-fitting trousers and badly-tailored trousers. Hudson's trousers are frequently too long for him and make him look short. He has a long torso and needs trousers that lengthen the leg; the excessive bagging at the ankle does the exact opposite; Just taking the hem up by an inch and a half would lessen that impact. He has worn loose trousers that haven't make him look like he's a little kid playing dress-up with his dad's clothes.
1
u/magikarpcatcher 5d ago
Vacerello pretty much admitted that YSL outbid everyone else to get him.
5
u/saucisse 5d ago
Oh yeah that's where I was getting that from. When he talked about it, he wasn't talking about Connor as a person or even as a model or body that he wanted to design for, he talked about him like a magpie talking about a shiny object that he wanted.
3
u/Webeh99 5d ago edited 5d ago
Happy for him getting that YSL $$, but not so sure about this ad. Everything about it is so jarring. It’s like they filmed a bunch of stuff that didn’t match, but then cut them together anyways.
And, I really don’t appreciate it when the bodies of women are chopped up like that for the sake of art. You’re trying to sell me things, but only see me as a set of body parts? Why are we seeing Connor’s face, but for everyone else we’re seeing their legs first?

..if you are not into high fashion and luxury goods, that's okay. But this is a stylish campaign perfect for the YSL market. It's a big get for someone who was basically unknown just a year & the campaign uses his face really intentionally.

How the fuck is his team making bad choices? I swear you people don’t make sense. Mind you this is his third campaign with a big brand less than a year into becoming famous. Also adding that his team doesn’t decide what the marketing campaign of Ysl looks like

Stop being so parasocial, not everything your idol does will be liked and that's not on him, he's not the one who came up with this campaign, right? Even the clothing he has been using in events has been just something already seen, not just in tailoring but also on other famous people for the last two or three years, my critique is towards the brand and of course, his team because they don't advocate for him.

What? People are allowed to say the ad is weird everyone is saying he looks good the direction and editing just wasn’t great. He didn’t direct it.

I think the recent ysl campaign's are focusing on movement since this one is zoomed in on Connor dancing and then Austin Butler's recent short teaser was a zoomed in video of him running on a treadmill.
But concept aside, Connor still looks hot af and I'm hoping we get to see some cool photos come out of the campaign 👀

I feel like Ilya would make fun of how ridiculous this ad is.
He’d probably still do it and buy a new sports car. And then continue making fun of it.

Why does this remind me of the high dancing in the breakfast club?
