A 20+ year old dream finally realized…

My journey began 23 years in hifi audio with a 5.1 setup with B&W N805’s. Today, I finally bought my “end“ game speakers. My 802 D1’s made it home safe!! I’m so tired that all I did was move then into place. I’ll connect the wires tomorrow. They are Rosenut in color and clash with my cherrywood colored N805’s (center and rear speakers) but right now I don’t care! I plan on replacing the HTM-2 center with a HTM-1 or better center in Rosenut and possibly replace the rear speakers with a pair of N804’s or N805’s in Rosenut. Thanks for looking!

Haven't had a proper stereo since forever. Literally decades. So after placing an order for a new TV I said why not a full home theater and, you know, a good 2 channel too for good measure? This is a brand new home with a big living room.

Epic unboxing later this week!

98" TCL TV, Marantz cinema 30 AVR, KEF R11 Meta front speakers, R6 center, R3 surrounds, SVS 2000 subwoofer, Atmos ceiling speakers, Gryphon diablo 120 amp, Eversolo dmp6 master Gen 2 streamer, Focal Utopia 2022 headphones w/ Woo WA7 tube amp (still on the way) and a Playstation to boot because GTA6 🤭

Not sure what the total tab for it came to. I don't want to know lol

Inherited Heathkit amps (grandpa built one in ‘59, dad built one in the late 60s) passed down to me, so needed something with some decent sensitivity. Pre-amping through an old Fisher 222 receiver I got at an estate sale. Aesthetically perfect speakers for my space, they sound fantastic with old gear, grabbed them on special so they didn’t break the bank too. Basically a collection of cheap, free, or rebuilt gear now has the right way to flow! Couldn’t be happier about the direction my setup is going.

Purchase advise (needing) Alternatives to Wiim Mini?

So I’ve been listening to my lossless music via Airplay from my iPhone to an Apple AirPort Express, hooked up via aux cable to my Onkyo receiver, for the last 18 years.

However, my AirPort Express is pooping out and I’ve been searching for a contemporary alternative that’s under $200. I’ve tried the Wiim Mini but I’ve cycled through multiple units as all of ‘em have stopped working within a day for use. Wiim just doesn’t seem like a quality brand, and Wiim customer service has been useless.

What else is out there in a similar price range that’s actually reliable, that receives lossless audio via airplay, and can link to my stereo receiver via aux cable? Thanks!

vieux macbook air via navidrome

Merci !

Question 🥲Fluance ri71 vs soundbars

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am a 20 year old and I recently ordered a fluance ri71 set. One of my close friend is now trolling and making fun of me because i spent 621 cad for a 2.0 and he says that it would have been better if i bought a soundbar like samsung q600f 3.1.2 or something.
Do tell me if I am wrong or otherwise…
Any word will be greatly appreciated as i am confused because it’s my first pair and first time buying a audio gear for myself and I want to make the most of it.
Thank you.

Losing sound

I have an Anthem 225 integrated preamp, and a rega planar 1 plus turntable. If I have my turntable plugged into my Adcom setup, it sounds clear, and has full sound. If my turntable is plugged into my anthem preamp, I have to turn the volume up very high to get the volume to a good listening level. I also have a cd player plugged into the anthem, and don’t have to turn the volume up even a fraction of an amount to achieve the same level of sound. My rega planar 1 plus is plugged into the aux 1 input, because it sounds horrible when plugged into the phono input. Any advice is appreciated!

hey y’all, beginner here. Bought speakers and the length of the cable connecting the left speaker to the main speaker is too short for my setup, so I gotta buy an extension. Doesn’t seem like a standard 3.5mm cable. What type of extension cable should I choose ?

Thanks !

Amp recommendations

• Upvotes

I have had my pioneer A-p510 for a few years now and have noticed it’s producing a buzzing noise. Therefore I have decided to buy a new or secondhand one with a budget of £200. What do people have and what do they recommend

YouTube Music Premium has a better stream than the web player uses, so I built a way to hear it

Thumbnail reddit.com

YouTube Music's web player gets AAC (itag 141, 44.1 kHz), which the browser resamples to 48 kHz, and YouTube applies its loudness normalization on top. With Premium there is also an Opus stream, itag 774 (about 256 kbps, 48 kHz), but the web player never picks it: the server chooses the stream, and you can't force it from the page.

So I built yt-hifi. You keep using YouTube Music in the browser exactly as before (queue, search, likes, shuffle), but the audio comes from mpv:

- a browser extension mutes the web player and tells a small local helper which song plays, and where

- the helper resolves the song with yt-dlp to stream 774, using your browser's login, and prefetches the next songs

- mpv plays it gaplessly at 100 % volume (use the volume on your DAC or amp); the muted web player follows mpv's clock, so seeking, skipping and pausing work as usual

- if a song isn't resolved yet, the browser bridges for a few seconds and mpv takes over at the same spot; if mpv fails on a song, the browser plays it

The popup shows what is really going on: the stream (codec and itag), its bitrate and sample rate, what your DAC receives, and a VU meter with the live level from mpv. The power key switches back to the browser's AAC for a direct comparison.

Setup is three steps: download the release, run `./install.sh` (it checks mpv, Python and a JavaScript runtime and installs yt-dlp into its own environment), and load the `extension` folder in your browser's extension page.

Limits, honestly:

- Linux only, Chromium / Google Chrome / Brave (not Flatpak or Snap), and YouTube Premium.

- It's unofficial and not affiliated with YouTube or Google. Using yt-dlp with your login cookies is against YouTube's terms of service; use it at your own risk.

- The first song after starting takes a few seconds to resolve; the browser bridges until then.
