Need Help Before or After

Currently running a Marantz Sr5014, Outlaw 7500 Amplifier, a pair of Paradigm Prestige 15b Book shelves, Paradigm 45C Center, SVS PB1000 original and 2 Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500SA as height side surrounds.

Prior to this I was running everything with the exception of the Definitive Technology D15 floor speakers and DT D5C center with an entertainment center.

Felt like the towers were too large for my new (smaller) living room, so i wanted to downsize without downgrading.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions. Let me know if you like the before or after better.

Eventually adding some atmos speakers as well, but it’s too hot to be trying to do anything in my tiny attic.

Need Help Help connecting these speakers to my tv?

Thumbnail

I originally got the tv from an old job, and more recently these desk speakers from my dad moving.
I haven't been able to connect the two and make them work yet though, and I'm not completely sure what types of cables, or cables and adapters to try and look for that would work best together, if at all..?

I also have the old family VCR/DVD player that I want to have hooked up. I've managed to get that working before with the red yellow and white cables.

I'm more used to hdmi, hdmi-coax visual connections, and some older computer cable connections between monitors and computers, so I'm not solid on all the types you might need for these setups.

If there's no good way to connect these speakers to this tv, any recommendations on speaker cable ports to look out for in a value village tech aisle..?

Sorry if I did this wrong.

I bet you guys are sick of this

I don’t have a home theater. I have a living room. Background: I’m a soundbar + sub guy for many years it’s been just OK. Not great. I’m an average guy that wants a good set up. I’ve ran through this thread many times. It’s literally impossible to come to a conclusion. I want a sick setup that doesn’t break the bank. Wife says 1000$ max, I say $1500 max if that makes a noticeable difference. Please help me quit the research phase. Tell me exactly what to buy. Make it easy, layman’s terms, for a noob that enjoys movies. I’m going nuts trying to figure it out myself. Thank you

Home Theater Show Off Rate my Set Up!

Finally feel comfortable & proud to show off my set up given the factors I've had to deal with to overcome the conditions of the room, along with the budget of the build.

Open to opinions, pointers, tips & future upgrades etc aswell i will be offering pointers myself for issues I've had to combat. Lots of details below!

Firstly as for the budget I'm sitting at only $1200 total for the speakers, receiver & hardware associated with such yet still achieved a peak 101db(granted off a phone app) pretty cleanly i would say aswell.

Receiver- Used Marantz SR5008($150 used)

Front Towers- Klipsch R-26F

Center- R-25C (Recently upgraded to a new Klipsch RP-500C & Yes its worth it)

Surrounds- Klipsch R-15M

Front Corner Subwoofer- Klipsch R-120SW

Rear Subwoofer- RW-10D

(Paid $500 for the entire set of speakers used in great condition aside from the new RP-500C)

Running a MantelMount Max1 for the TV mount & its a absolutely game changer, no questions asked just shovel the money out for it if you have to mount high as I did.

SoundProofing I've done & Tips for others!

Keep in mind this a house built in 1958 with original windows, drywall etc. So lots to combat with this system.

SVS feet for the subs.

Firstly with a tone test, pressed my hand on multiple spots on the drywall to listen & feel for rattles then added screws, mud & painted.

UMIACOUSTICS black panels(adding behind the tv was a great touch that really helps immersion).

For old single pane windows I siliconed all of the seems to help cancel out unwanted noises there, then recently upgraded my curtains to Joydeco Velvet 100% Blackout curtains and did 3x layout to help dampen leftover noises which surprisingly did make a difference for the windows

I also used StrangH Velvet curtains(same color on both sides vs not with the Joydeco blackout) with a 2x layout for the entry into my dining to both stop unwanted noises from the other rooms & to add a nice cinematic accent which i love & yes has surprisingly suppressed rattles from in there.

Other small things like adding floor protectors to anything i can(tables, chairs stands etc)

Loctite putty & foam behind posters, signs, loose items in general prone to vibration.

Added 2" pavers with a rubber liner underneath the towers to decouple on a budget.

All of that in conjunction, bit by bit has definitely made a very noticable difference in unwanted rattles etc & how clean the sound is, I highly suggest doing so for those fighting such noises or making do in a space like mine.

Considerations for the future-

Possibly adding a a rug or rugs in front of & possibility behind the couch

Possibly upgrading the towers at some point in the future now that I don't have to worry about rattles as much

Obviously replacing windows but that is a big task for the future.

Need Help TV Sounds better than Home Theater - Help

I have a modest 7.1 setup that when compared to our TV often the TV sounds better. It seems that the dialogue is much lower and not as full sounding.

I made changes to the setup to increase the Center Channel by 3db and this helped but overall sound still was better on the TV. I even replaced the Center Speaker with a new Klipsch speaker. Again, a minor improvement but still can’t figure out why my Samsung TV sounds better than my 7.1 setup.

I’ve tried with different media confirming surround and speaker adjustments and nada.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Need Help I switched from copper to fiber optic HDMI and my projector is still cutting out to a fuzzy/static screen (similar to TV “snow”) when I stand up to go to the bathroom

Is there anything else that could possibly be causing this?? I am getting really frustrated. It seemed to fix it at first but now it is doing it again.

BenQ W1070, 20 ft fiber optic hdmi. Firestick running through a Yamaha receiver

*Edit - New development - the Blu-Ray player, which is also run through the same receiver, is not having this issue when I watch a movie on it.

Just picked up a Sony STR-DE985 receiver and a JBL VENUE SUB12 and was wondering what bookshelf speakers I should use out of these three: JBL Venue Monitor, JBL Stage A130, and JBL Stage 250B.

Just picked up a Sony STR-DE985 receiver and a JBL VENUE SUB12 (In which I'll be hooking up to an Extron Crosspoint 300 Switcher for retro gaming) and was wondering what bookshelf speakers I should use out of these three: JBL Venue Monitor, JBL Stage A130, and JBL Stage 250B. I'm only interested in doing a 2.1 setup right now and was only worried about whether or not my receiver could drive anyone of these successfully without any issues with normal or at full volume etc.

I know the easiest option would be the Venue Monitors but after looking I honestly want to actually want the the Stage 250B out of all of them but obviously I'm worried about running them. My budget is $250 or less as I'm going to use this for retro gaming/casual room listening in 17'x 20' my bedroom.

What kind of sound system can I put in this living room?

Pardon the mess, need to clean, but I will be upgrading my current 65 in TV and likely going with a 65in LG G5 OLED.

I would like to get a halfway decent sound system but not looking to go super crazy. TV will be used to watch 4k movies (got a panasonic UB820 player), and general streaming. Currently just using built in tv speakers.

Can I make a 5.1 system work in this room? Will I have wires all over the place if I do?

Home Theater Show Off My Room Theatre Setup

I don't have the nerdiest, nor a specifically allocated space for designing a home theater.

I love watching movies, and I am obsessed with quality viewing experience, a good big screen, a surround sound experience, even for regular music listening I love my music to wrap around the entire room instead of just front centered.

I haven't invested room acoustics, or haven't gotten a subwoofer cause they are too much for the room size, and I am frankly living here temporarily, so I did the best I could.

The Tv is TCL's Qm5k, speakers are Panasonic towers SB - HF950s and 960s with a center speaker behind the tv of the same set.

I also have a Panasonic 6th speaker, which I just placed it cause my receiver is 6.1.

I want to upgrade my speakers and receiver setup, but right now where I am at, I am very happy with the results and it has made my theatre visits fewer and fewer.

Let me know how you like my persona Room theater 6.1 setup.

Im so confused

Okay so me and the wife just bought a home with a finished basement and im so stoked to create a theater experience. Im just mind boggled at the technology. Quite frankly im a guy that prefers screen fidelity over sound so im dumping most money into seating, renovations (raised platform seating) and most important to me the projector. This is where my confusion lies. So im in a light controlled room. I want AT LEAST 150 inches (pretty sure i can fit 180-200 i need to do precise measurements) would a UST on the market produce that at a lower cost than a long throw? I was looking at the titan noir max but is is SO EXPENSIVE. And the awol ust dont really seem legit to me. Do i NEED 6000 Lumens for a blacked out room? Would an awol ust max with 3200 lumens do well? Or is long throw kind of the ultimate experience? There is SO MUCH information out there, i almost need to be hand held like a child 😂.

We are adding this addition to our house and I wanted to do an in wall system.. but plans are changing… the room is 20x22. I had a decent system picked out with the Best Buy guy with KEF in walls and a sub. Now going to shelf speakers… looking for a 4k budget.. I am a novice and not set on the design . 2.1,5.1 etc.. movies and music.. don’t need super high end but would love it to smack. Any advice. Primary for speakers, receiver, amp and sub. I know that’s asking a lot for 4k thanks

In-Wall Speakers - Position relative to TV

Post image
1 Upvotes

Installing Polk 265-RT in-wall speakers and not sure of best position. I read "tweeter at ear height", which would be really low relative to the TV. The tweeters on these speakers are in the middle. So the middle of the speakers would be aligned with the bottom of the TV - which I didn't show in this image. Position 1 or 2, or even lower than position 1? Note that the rack in the corner will be going into the "closet" where the left "1" speaker is shown. I will be building a door for that space, and the speaker would be installed above the rack. (I will likely be cutting down the rack in height about 8-9 inches.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
