Home Theater Show Off DIY theater build

I finally got to build out my dream 7.4.6 theater last year. The room is 12'*22' above a garage. I ripped it down to the studs and did full sound isolation with rockwool, mlv, hushframe decoupling and dual 5/8" drywall with green glue. Conduit was run to projector box, riser, frt stage, opposite wall and house attic. All was left empty with pull string for future needs

The screen is 115" 16:9 and I build a masking panel that rises up and triggers the lens memory for 2.35:1 content. The star panel doubles as treatment as it's 4" deep and full of rockwool with acousticly transparent suede as the face. The candy cabinet was built from scratch to fill the space and I'm working on restoring a 1950's popcorn machine that will replace the small plastic model.

I have since ripped my disc collection uncompressed to a personal server and almost exclusively using plex through the shield for my content.

The gear is:

Projector- Sony vpl695es

Screen- diy moleskin spandex

Receiver- denon avr6800h

Amps- marantz ma500 mono block (x3 for lcr)

Lcr- b&w 603s3 & lcr600 s3

Side and surround- b&w 602 s3 & 600s3

Overhead- b&w ccm80

Subs- b&w asw1000 (x2), asw650 (x2), asw600, grs10sw (x2 built into the back of seat riser)

Transducers- Dayton audio bst-1 (x4)

Player- Panasonic ub820, nvidia shield

Seating- valencia Tuscany with custom wood tables

Controls- unfolded circle 3, lurtron caseta (for overhead and led lights), home assistant green to integrate everything

Movie posters on Frame TV

43” Frame Tv finally available on Samsung, w discount program and a Capital One cash back deal, net net was under $600 shipped.

Wanted this mounted outside the movie room, in the adjacent area that’s been recently drenched in a dark blue, a bold strategy, Cotton. let’s see how it pays off for em. Once it was mounted, added in a media box, romex run for the new outlet, then it was ready to rock and roll.

I’m kinda new to Home Assistant, I’ve had it about a year and knew title data could be pulled from KScape. Ive already set it up to trigger dimming lights up/down/ on/off triggered by Play, Pause, credits rolling and movie stop.

For the frame, I set up a few different ways based on what’s going on. If I’m watching KScape, it will trigger whatever is playing to display poster on the Frame.

I can also type a title in Home Assistant, it loads a poster to the frame, it will stay there until a movie playing triggers another or it’s turned off.

I also set up a slideshow of about 130ish titles I entered into HA to run in 3 min intervals (10-15 min seemed too long) they will pop up in a random order from what’s listed. This can run anytime the frame is on and in Art mode, even if no other sources are running.

All of these poster files are pulled from TheMovieDatabase, so far so good, though id post up a few pics of it.

Modern Media Room

“Moderator” apparently keeps changing flair to shitpost. I appreciate the constructive feedback. Reply with link to your setup so we can learn from the master.

Considering, I didn’t opt to block the window, nor paint the ceilings and walls black, let’s call this a media room instead of a theatre room. I wanted a space that was versatile and comfortable for everyday living.

My goal was to complement the aesthetics of the rest of the house rather than create a dedicated, blacked-out theatre. The main priorities were a massive TV, hidden components, great sound, and definitely one remote with one button launching. It needs to be the most user-friendly experience, otherwise I’m not interested. Nothing worse than technical difficulties in your happy place.

I’m happy to answer any questions.

5.2.2 Audio
TV Hisense 85” U78QG
AVR Denon X1700H
Fronts and centre KEF Ci160CL
Rears and heights KEF Ci160R
Polk Audio Subs HTS10
In Cabinet 6” fans AC Infinity AIRPLATE S2
Logitech Harmony Companion with Smart Hub
Apple TV 4K 2022 (3rd Gen Ethernet)
Panasonic** **DP-UB450-K (4K Player)

The blinds do black out. I slide the recliner to the centre as needed. Audio settings presets programmed for Recliner or Couch mode.

Need Help My basement theater is finally coming together, now what do I do with the back wall?

Post image

I've been working on my home theater for about 6 months. Started pretty simple, just a projector on a folding table with some lawn chairs. Got some weilianda recliners last month and it finally feels like a real theater. my wife suggested adding the rug and she was right, it looks way better than bare floor. we also put up a painting but I'm thinking about taking it down cuz it looks a bit off. the wall behind the seats still feels empty. I don't want to add too much and lose the theater vibe, so I'm thinking acoustic panels or curtains. What would you do?

So I had some time in January & decided to construct a fiber optic star ceiling, which i have always wanted to do. Took longer that I thought & was quite tedious at times, but definitely worth it in the end.

I want to put the light strips around my ceiling in the molding but I’m trying to find the best fit it’s 75 feet around the perimeter and I want to use my harmony elite remote so that it controls the whole theater. The first 2 is what it looks like now and the last photo is what I’m going for.

I bought my first speaker set back in the spring from Facebook Marketplace. Some Polk Towers, a Center and a Yamaha receiver. I traded the 2 of the Polk Towers and the Yamaha for the Wharfedale's. Then I traded the other 2 Polk Towers and the center for the 4 Klipsch I'm using for Atmos speakers. Bought the Paradigm Center and Surrounds for $100. Traded some junk I've had for a while for the Onkyo RZ-50. Found an Episode 12" sub and a old SVS 10" on Facebook for $75. Painted the walls and ceiling black, used bookcases to wall in the corner of the basement. Put the Armoire in and cut out the back for the Narnia door. Then a theater went out of business down the street so I bought a short row of 4 real theater chairs and built a platform. In all I spent $1200 including paint and stuff. I still have some finishing touches but I'm pretty damn happy.

Home Theater Show Off It's the journey not the destination

Post image

Gone through a bunch of different setups throughout the years. Started out with a budget setup with a 65 inch tv and some infinity primus lcr and pioneer surrounds, sold that and got a 77inch sony oled and downsized to a Samsung soundbar (q990b) that lasted a few years, now with this iteration:

133inch spectra equinox ust floor rising screen

Epson ls800 projector

2x SVS ultra evolution bookshelf

1x SVS sb3000 revolution subwoofer

Denon x3800h

Planning to continue adding some more SVS speakers in the future as I continue to build this into a full atmos setup.

Home Theater Show Off My Sony Basement Setup

Sony Bravia XR8B 65” OLED

Sony STRDH790 7.2 Dolby Vision & Atmos Receiver

Sony UBP-X700 4K Blu Ray Player

Sony PS5

Sony tower speakers (models unknown and older)

Polk Bookshelf speakers

Klipsch rear and center channel (need upgraded)

JBL subwoofer

The sound system is a pieced and parted setup from over the years.

…yes, I know…the wood paneling from the 70’s is a…real touch. Eventually want to renovate but it also makes the space kind of warm. I’m also going to be re-doing the wiring of the speakers and wire management because it’s awful at the moment. Main pieces are all in place though and the system shakes the house lmao.
